47\u00a0<\/sup>praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.\u00a0And the Lord added to their number\u00a0daily those who were being saved.<\/strong><\/p>\nThey were together, though with different languages and cultures, praising God with one heart. They joyfully served one another. Their appearance recorded here, does not describe those who do not listen to each other. Here were people of one mind, sharing meals together, talking about God and praising Him in their native languages.<\/p>\n
What we see there, is no desire to make a name for themselves as in the past, but only to respond with gratitude and joy to what the Lord has done for them.<\/p>\n
People in the Lord, that thanksgiving and joy was expressed through the language God gave to each of them. And they enjoyed the favor of all the people who saw them. Dear People, do we not find our own true evangelism in what we see here.<\/p>\n
The Babel project did not continue. Because there were problems there. The vision of our church and the unity of our families have the same risk.<\/p>\n
However, when our hearts are broken and the Holy Spirit comes to us, our hearts are given the power to hear and accept what others say, and to speak words that reach their hearts.<\/p>\n
Dear people in the Lord, do the words we speak reach one another? Do we speak such words between husband and wife and parent and child? Do the words we speak in the church reach each other\u2019s hearts?<\/p>\n
There are many enlightening books in the world. I sometimes look through them. I sometimes take them to heart. However, lately, I have been thinking a lot. Rather than what I get from these 100 enlightening books, to be filled with the Holy Spirit, to bear the fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, is far more important for me.<\/p>\n
If this world had one language, then we would not have to translate between Japanese and English every week. I never would have had to eat a broccoli pizza that I didn\u2019t want twice at California Pizza Kitchen (there is a Japanese proverb that says \u201cfood resentment is great\u201d).<\/p>\n
However, since the Tower of Babel, our world speaks different languages. Differences between us arise, because differences in language have a great impact on the way we think.<\/p>\n
The first challenge God gave to those gathered in Jerusalem was to overcome their differences by the unity of the Holy Spirit, and to share the gospel with the world through their way of life.<\/p>\n
Not many churches today are given the same challenge that this first church was given to accept. Not surprisingly, our church is one of those few.<\/p>\n
Dear people in the Lord, do we take this as our \u201cshackles\u201d? Or do we take it as a \u201cblessing\u201d?<\/p>\n
We have been led to this city of San Diego under God\u2019s wonderous providence. For many of you, that providence goes back to your parents and grandparents. We became Christians by God\u2019s grace and through their prayers.<\/p>\n
We live only once, so what will we see and hear through this church life while we are on this earth? When we look back on our lives, what kind of church life will we recall? And what kind of church will we leave for the next generation?<\/p>\n
Wouldn\u2019t you hope for the chance to see the blessings of the early Church in our time, and to accept this opportunity? All great things begin first and foremost in the hearts of each of us.\u3000I pray and hope that the Holy Spirit is speaking powerfully to your heart this morning. Let us pray.<\/p>\n
