There are two books in the Bible that are named after a woman. \u8056\u66f8\u306b\u306f\u3001\u5973\u6027\u306e\u540d\u3092\u51a0\u3057\u305f\u4e8c\u518a\u306e\u66f8\u304c\u3042\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

They are Ruth and Esther. \u30eb\u30c4\u8a18\u3068\u30a8\u30b9\u30c6\u30eb\u8a18\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Today, we will look at the Book of Ruth, and look at Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz, whose lives are recorded in the book. \u4eca\u65e5\u306f\u30eb\u30c4\u8a18\u3092\u53d6\u308a\u4e0a\u3052\u3001\u305d\u3053\u306b\u8a18\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u308b\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u3001\u30eb\u30c4\u3001\u30dc\u30a2\u30ba\u306b\u3064\u3044\u3066\u898b\u3066\u3044\u304d\u307e\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3002<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s begin by reading the first part of this four-chapter book. \u307e\u305a\u3001\uff14\u7ae0\u304b\u3089\u306a\u308b\u3053\u306e\u66f8\u306e\u6700\u521d\u306e\u90e8\u5206\u3092\u8aad\u3093\u3067\u307f\u307e\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3002<\/p>\n

Ruth 1:1-5\uff08\u30eb\u30c4\u8a18\uff11\u7ae0\uff11\u7bc0\uff0d\uff15\u7bc0\uff09<\/strong><\/p>\n

1\u00a0<\/sup>Now it came about in the days\u00a0when the judges\u00a0governed, that there was\u00a0a famine in the land. 1<\/sup>\u3055\u3070\u304d\u3065\u304b\u3055\u304c\u4e16\u3092\u6cbb\u3081\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3053\u308d\u3001\u56fd\u306b\u98e2\u304d\u3093\u304c\u3042\u3063\u305f\u306e\u3067\u3001<\/strong><\/p>\n

And a certain man\u00a0of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the land of Moab\u00a0with his wife and his two sons.\u00a0\u3072\u3068\u308a\u306e\u4eba\u304c\u305d\u306e\u59bb\u3068\u3075\u305f\u308a\u306e\u7537\u306e\u5b50\u3092\u9023\u308c\u3066\u30e6\u30c0\u306e\u30d9\u30c4\u30ec\u30d8\u30e0\u3092\u53bb\u308a\u3001\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u306e\u5730\u3078\u884c\u3063\u3066\u305d\u3053\u306b\u6ede\u5728\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n

2\u00a0<\/sup>The name of the man\u00a0was\u00a0Elimelech, and the name of his wife, Naomi; and the names of his two sons\u00a0were\u00a0Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Bethlehem in Judah. 2<\/sup>\u305d\u306e\u4eba\u306e\u540d\u306f\u30a8\u30ea\u30e1\u30ec\u30af\u3001\u59bb\u306e\u540d\u306f\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u3001\u3075\u305f\u308a\u306e\u7537\u306e\u5b50\u306e\u540d\u306f\u30de\u30ed\u30f3\u3068\u30ad\u30ea\u30aa\u30f3\u3068\u3044\u3044\u3001\u30e6\u30c0\u306e\u30d9\u30c4\u30ec\u30d8\u30e0\u306e\u30a8\u30d5\u30e9\u30bf\u3073\u3068\u3067\u3042\u3063\u305f\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n

Now they\u00a0entered the land of Moab and remained there.\u00a03\u00a0<\/sup>Then Elimelech, Naomi\u2019s husband, died; and she was left with her two sons.\u00a0\u5f7c\u3089\u306f\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u306e\u5730\u3078\u884c\u3063\u3066\u3001\u305d\u3053\u306b\u304a\u3063\u305f\u304c\u30013<\/sup>\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306e\u592b\u30a8\u30ea\u30e1\u30ec\u30af\u306f\u6b7b\u3093\u3067\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u3068\u3075\u305f\u308a\u306e\u7537\u306e\u5b50\u304c\u6b8b\u3055\u308c\u305f\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n

4\u00a0<\/sup>They took for themselves Moabite women\u00a0as\u00a0wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth. And they lived there about ten years.\u00a04<\/sup>\u3075\u305f\u308a\u306e\u7537\u306e\u5b50\u306f\u305d\u308c\u305e\u308c\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u306e\u5973\u3092\u59bb\u306b\u8fce\u3048\u305f\u3002\u305d\u306e\u3072\u3068\u308a\u306e\u540d\u306f\u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u3068\u3044\u3044\u3001\u3072\u3068\u308a\u306e\u540d\u306f\u30eb\u30c4\u3068\u3044\u3063\u305f\u3002\u5f7c\u3089\u306f\u305d\u3053\u306b\u5341\u5e74\u307b\u3069\u4f4f\u3093\u3067\u3044\u305f\u304c\u3001<\/strong><\/p>\n

5\u00a0<\/sup>Then\u00a0both Mahlon and Chilion also died, and the woman was bereft of her two children and her husband. 5<\/sup>\u30de\u30ed\u30f3\u3068\u30ad\u30ea\u30aa\u30f3\u306e\u3075\u305f\u308a\u3082\u307e\u305f\u6b7b\u3093\u3060\u3002\u3053\u3046\u3057\u3066\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306f\u3075\u305f\u308a\u306e\u5b50\u3068\u592b\u3068\u306b\u5148\u3060\u305f\u308c\u305f\u3002<\/strong><\/p>\n

As can be seen in what we just read, what is recorded for us here took place \u201cin the days when the judges governed.\u201d \u8aad\u3093\u3067\u5206\u304b\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306b\u3001\u3053\u3053\u306b\u8a18\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u308b\u306e\u306f \u300c\u58eb\u5e2b\u305f\u3061\u304c\u6cbb\u3081\u3066\u3044\u305f\u6642\u4ee3\u300d\u306e\u51fa\u6765\u4e8b\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

This means this took place during the time of the judges, which includes people like Deborah and Barak and Gideon that we looked at the last couple of weeks. \u3064\u307e\u308a\u3053\u308c\u3089\u306f\u3001\u3053\u3053\u4f55\u9031\u9593\u3067\u898b\u3066\u304d\u307e\u3057\u305f\u30c7\u30dc\u30e9\u3084\u30d0\u30e9\u30af\u3001\u30ae\u30c7\u30aa\u30f3\u3068\u3044\u3063\u305f\u4eba\u3005\u3092\u542b\u3080\u3001\u58eb\u5e2b\u9054\u306e\u6642\u4ee3\u306b\u8d77\u3053\u3063\u305f\u3053\u3068\u306a\u306e\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

We also see that it was during probably one of the times when the Israelites were suffering due to their disobedience to God. \u307e\u305f\u3001\u30a4\u30b9\u30e9\u30a8\u30eb\u306e\u6c11\u304c\u795e\u69d8\u306b\u5f93\u308f\u306a\u304b\u3063\u305f\u305f\u3081\u306b\u82e6\u3057\u3093\u3067\u3044\u305f\u6642\u671f\u306e\u4e00\u3064\u3067\u3042\u3063\u305f\u3053\u3068\u3082\u5206\u304b\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

We come to this conclusion because it says, \u201cthere was a famine in the land.\u201d \u3053\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306b\u7d50\u8ad6\u3065\u3051\u3089\u308c\u308b\u306e\u306f\u300c\u305d\u306e\u5730\u306b\u306f\u98e2\u9949\u304c\u3042\u3063\u305f\u300d\u3068\u66f8\u304b\u308c\u3066\u3044\u308b\u304b\u3089\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

So, we see that this story begins with an Israelite family of the tribe of Judah that has moved to the land of Moab in order to seek better fortunes (food to eat). \u3053\u306e\u7269\u8a9e\u306f\u3001\u30e6\u30c0\u65cf\u306e\u30a4\u30b9\u30e9\u30a8\u30eb\u4eba\u5bb6\u65cf\u304c\u3001\u3088\u308a\u826f\u3044\u8ca1\u7523\uff08\u98df\u3079\u308b\u3082\u306e\uff09\u3092\u6c42\u3081\u3066\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u306e\u5730\u306b\u79fb\u308a\u4f4f\u3080\u3068\u3053\u308d\u304b\u3089\u59cb\u307e\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

The story starts out with some dim circumstances, which then becomes even gloomier. \u7269\u8a9e\u306f\u8584\u6697\u3044\u72b6\u6cc1\u304b\u3089\u59cb\u307e\u308a\u3001\u3055\u3089\u306b\u9670\u9b31\u306b\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u304d\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Just five verses into the Book of Ruth, we find out that three women have become widows. \u30eb\u30c4\u8a18\u306e\u308f\u305a\u304b\uff15\u7bc0\u3067\u3001\uff13\u4eba\u306e\u5973\u6027\u304c\u3084\u3082\u3081\u306b\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u3053\u3068\u304c\u5206\u304b\u308b\u306e\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Naomi lost her husband Elimelech, Orpah lost her husband Chilion, and Ruth lost her husband Mahlon. \u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306f\u592b\u30a8\u30ea\u30e1\u30ec\u30af\u3092\u5931\u3044\u3001\u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u306f\u592b\u30ad\u30ea\u30aa\u30f3\u3092\u5931\u3044\u3001\u30eb\u30c4\u306f\u592b\u30de\u30ed\u30f3\u3092\u5931\u3044\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

So, Naomi who had moved to the land of Moab with her husband and two sons was now left by herself with her two Moabite daughters-in-law, Orpah and Ruth. \u592b\u3068\u4e8c\u4eba\u306e\u606f\u5b50\u3068\u5171\u306b\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u306b\u79fb\u308a\u4f4f\u3093\u3060\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306f\u4e8c\u4eba\u306e\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u4eba\u306e\u7fa9\u7406\u306e\u5a18\u3001\u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u3068\u30eb\u30c4\u3068\u5171\u306b\u6b8b\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3057\u307e\u3063\u305f\u306e\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Being a widow at that time would have been financially difficult, \u5f53\u6642\u3001\u672a\u4ea1\u4eba\u3067\u3042\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u7d4c\u6e08\u7684\u306b\u56f0\u96e3\u3067\u3042\u3063\u305f\u3067\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3001<\/p>\n

and for Naomi it would have been even harder to be a widow in a foreign land where there were no relatives to be able to turn to for assistance and support. \u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306b\u3068\u3063\u3066\u3001\u983c\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306e\u3067\u304d\u308b\u89aa\u65cf\u3082\u3044\u306a\u3044\u7570\u56fd\u306e\u5730\u3067\u672a\u4ea1\u4eba\u3068\u306a\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3001\u3055\u3089\u306b\u56f0\u96e3\u306a\u3053\u3068\u3067\u3042\u3063\u305f\u3067\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3002<\/p>\n

For some of you here this morning, you can probably relate to Naomi\u2019s circumstances. \u3000\u4eca\u671d\u3053\u3053\u306b\u304a\u3089\u308c\u308b\u65b9\u3005\u306e\u4e2d\u306b\u306f\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306e\u5883\u9047\u306b\u5171\u611f\u3055\u308c\u308b\u65b9\u3082\u304a\u3089\u308c\u308b\u3067\u3057\u3087\u3046\u3002<\/p>\n

Due to these circumstances, Naomi decides to return back to her hometown of Bethlehem in Judah, \u3053\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306a\u4e8b\u60c5\u304b\u3089\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306f\u6545\u90f7\u306e\u30e6\u30c0\u306e\u30d9\u30c4\u30ec\u30d8\u30e0\u306b\u623b\u308b\u3053\u3068\u3092\u6c7a\u610f\u3057\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

for she heard \u201cthat the Lord had visited His people in giving them food\u201d (Ruth 1:6).\u300c\u4e3b\u304c\u305d\u306e\u6c11\u3092\u9867\u307f\u3066\u3001\u3059\u3067\u306b\u98df\u7269\u3092\u304a\u4e0e\u3048\u306b\u306a\u3063\u3066\u3044\u308b\u300d\uff08\u30eb\u30c4\u8a18\uff11\u7ae0\uff16\u7bc0\uff09\u3053\u3068\u3092\u805e\u3044\u305f\u304b\u3089\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

In other words, God blessed the Israelites with an abundance of food, which indicated that the people\u2019s hearts turned back to God. \u3064\u307e\u308a\u3001\u795e\u69d8\u304c\u30a4\u30b9\u30e9\u30a8\u30eb\u306e\u6c11\u3092\u8c4a\u304b\u306a\u98df\u7269\u3067\u795d\u798f\u3057\u3001\u305d\u308c\u306f\u6c11\u306e\u5fc3\u304c\u795e\u306b\u7acb\u3061\u8fd4\u3063\u305f\u3053\u3068\u3092\u793a\u3057\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

So, Naomi set out to return to Bethlehem with Orpah and Ruth. \u305d\u3053\u3067\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306f\u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u3068\u30eb\u30c4\u3068\u5171\u306b\u30d9\u30c4\u30ec\u30d8\u30e0\u306b\u623b\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306b\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

However, before she got out of the land of Moab, Naomi urged Orpah and Ruth to return to their mother\u2019s house, to remarry and settle down among their own people. \u3057\u304b\u3057\u3001\u30e2\u30a2\u30d6\u3092\u51fa\u308b\u524d\u306b\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306f\u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u3068\u30eb\u30c4\u306b\u6bcd\u306e\u5bb6\u306b\u623b\u308a\u3001\u518d\u5a5a\u3057\u3066\u81ea\u5206\u305f\u3061\u306e\u6c11\u306e\u9593\u306b\u5b9a\u4f4f\u3059\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306b\u4fc3\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

Both Orpah and Ruth truly loved Naomi and didn\u2019t want to leave her. \u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u3082\u30eb\u30c4\u3082\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u3092\u5fc3\u304b\u3089\u611b\u3057\u3066\u304a\u308a\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306e\u3082\u3068\u3092\u96e2\u308c\u305f\u304f\u3042\u308a\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3067\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

However, after Naomi persuaded them with further words of loving counsel, Orpah left to return back to her mother\u2019s house while Ruth clung to her mother-in-law. \u3057\u304b\u3057\u3001\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u304c\u3055\u3089\u306b\u611b\u60c5\u3092\u8fbc\u3081\u3066\u4e8c\u4eba\u3092\u8aac\u5f97\u3057\u305f\u5f8c\u3001\u30aa\u30eb\u30d1\u306f\u6bcd\u306e\u5bb6\u306b\u5e30\u308a\u3001\u30eb\u30c4\u306f\u7fa9\u6bcd\u306b\u3057\u304c\u307f\u3064\u304d\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

Then, Ruth says something to Naomi that I think is one of the greatest declarations of loyalty and loving commitment that is recorded in the Bible. \u305d\u306e\u6642\u3001\u30eb\u30c4\u304c\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u306b\u8a00\u3063\u305f\u8a00\u8449\u306f\u3001\u8056\u66f8\u306b\u8a18\u3055\u308c\u3066\u3044\u308b\u4e2d\u3067\u3082\u6700\u3082\u5049\u5927\u306a\u5fe0\u8aa0\u3068\u611b\u306e\u8a93\u3044\u306e\u5ba3\u8a00\u306e\u4e00\u3064\u3060\u3068\u79c1\u306f\u601d\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Ruth 1:16-17\uff08\u30eb\u30c4\u8a18\uff11\u7ae0\uff11\uff16\u7bc0\uff0d\uff11\uff17\u7bc0\uff09<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final verse of the chapter mentions that Naomi returned to Bethlehem with Ruth, two individuals who now at this point in the story have expressed their faith in God. \u3053\u306e\u7ae0\u306e\u6700\u5f8c\u306e\u7bc0\u3067\u306f\u3001\u305d\u306e\u6642\u70b9\u3067\u5f7c\u5973\u9054\u306e\u795e\u69d8\u3078\u306e\u4fe1\u4ef0\u3092\u8868\u660e\u3057\u305f\u30ca\u30aa\u30df\u304c\u30eb\u30c4\u3068\u5171\u306b\u30d9\u30c4\u30ec\u30d8\u30e0\u306b\u623b\u3063\u305f\u3053\u3068\u304c\u8ff0\u3079\u3089\u308c\u3066\u3044\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Being a widow and a foreigner, Ruth\u2019s economic opportunities and prospects for income generation were close to nil. \u672a\u4ea1\u4eba\u3067\u5916\u56fd\u4eba\u3067\u3042\u308b\u30eb\u30c4\u306e\u7d4c\u6e08\u7684\u306a\u6a5f\u4f1a\u3068\u53ce\u5165\u3092\u5f97\u308b\u898b\u8fbc\u307f\u306f\u30bc\u30ed\u306b\u8fd1\u3044\u3082\u306e\u3067\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

As far as Ruth\u2019s socio-economic status was concerned, she was in the category of the poor, hopeless and helpless. \u30eb\u30c4\u306e\u793e\u4f1a\u7d4c\u6e08\u7684\u5730\u4f4d\u306b\u95a2\u3059\u308b\u9650\u308a\u3001\u5f7c\u5973\u306f\u8ca7\u3057\u304f\u3001\u7d76\u671b\u7684\u3067\u3001\u7121\u529b\u306a\u4eba\u3005\u306e\u7bc4\u7587\u306b\u3042\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

Each society has various means of providing for the needy. \u305d\u308c\u305e\u308c\u306e\u793e\u4f1a\u306b\u306f\u3001\u56f0\u7aae\u8005\u3092\u6276\u990a\u3059\u308b\u3055\u307e\u3056\u307e\u306a\u624b\u6bb5\u304c\u3042\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

In today\u2019s society, we have something known as welfare. \u4eca\u65e5\u306e\u793e\u4f1a\u3067\u306f\u3001\u798f\u7949\u3068\u547c\u3070\u308c\u308b\u3082\u306e\u304c\u3042\u308a\u307e\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Such did not exist in the time of the judges, but some other means of help for the needy was available. \u58eb\u5e2b\u9054\u306e\u6642\u4ee3\u306b\u306f\u305d\u306e\u3088\u3046\u306a\u3082\u306e\u306f\u5b58\u5728\u3057\u307e\u305b\u3093\u3067\u3057\u305f\u304c\u3001\u56f0\u7aae\u8005\u3092\u6551\u6e08\u3059\u308b\u4ed6\u306e\u624b\u6bb5\u304c\u3042\u308a\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

It was called gleaning. \u305d\u308c\u306f\u843d\u3061\u7a42\u62fe\u3044\u3068\u547c\u3070\u308c\u308b\u3082\u306e\u3067\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

God commanded farmers in Israel not to harvest the corners of their fields so the poor and needy, such as aliens, widows, and orphans, could glean enough food to live. \u795e\u69d8\u306f\u30a4\u30b9\u30e9\u30a8\u30eb\u306e\u8fb2\u592b\u9054\u306b\u3001\u5916\u56fd\u4eba\u3001\u5be1\u5a66\u3001\u5b64\u5150\u306a\u3069\u306e\u8ca7\u3057\u3044\u56f0\u7aae\u8005\u304c\u751f\u304d\u308b\u306e\u306b\u5341\u5206\u306a\u98df\u6599\u3092\u53ce\u7a6b\u3067\u304d\u308b\u3088\u3046\u306b\u3001\u7551\u306e\u9685\u3092\u53ce\u7a6b\u3057\u306a\u3044\u3088\u3046\u306b\u547d\u3058\u305f\u306e\u3067\u3059\u3002<\/p>\n

Gleaning was a God ordained opportunity given to those in great need to work with their own hands in order to provide for themselves, \u843d\u3061\u7a42\u3092\u62fe\u3044\u96c6\u3081\u308b\u3053\u3068\u306f\u3001\u81ea\u5206\u9054\u3092\u990a\u3046\u305f\u3081\u306b\u81ea\u5206\u7b49\u306e\u624b\u3067\u50cd\u304f\u3001\u56f0\u7aae\u3057\u3066\u3044\u308b\u4eba\u3005\u306b\u4e0e\u3048\u3089\u308c\u305f\u795e\u69d8\u306e\u5b9a\u3081\u305f\u6a5f\u4f1a\u3067\u3042\u308a\u3001<\/p>\n

and it was a respectable way for those with no real income generation prospects to make a living. \u53ce\u5165\u3092\u5f97\u308b\u898b\u8fbc\u307f\u306e\u306a\u3044\u4eba\u3005\u304c\u751f\u8a08\u3092\u7acb\u3066\u308b\u305f\u3081\u306e\u7acb\u6d3e\u306a\u65b9\u6cd5\u3067\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

Thus, Ruth wanted to find favor from a farmer who would allow her to pick up leftovers of the harvest. \u305d\u308c\u3086\u3048\u30eb\u30c4\u306f\u3001\u53ce\u7a6b\u306e\u6b8b\u308a\u7269\u3092\u62fe\u3046\u3053\u3068\u3092\u8a31\u3057\u3066\u304f\u308c\u308b\u8fb2\u592b\u304b\u3089\u597d\u610f\u3092\u5f97\u3088\u3046\u3068\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n
