「シモン、シモン、見よ、サタンはあなたを麦のようにふるいにかけることを願って許された。しかし、わたしはあなたの信仰がなくならないように、あなたのために祈った。それで、あなたが立ち直った時には、兄弟たちを力づけてやりなさい」（ルカ２２章３１節－３２節）
挫折や失敗はいつまでも私達の心に残り、暗い影を落とし、それが私達の言動を押し留めるかもしれません。しかし、その挫折や失敗を私達がどのようにとらえるかによって、それは私達の宝となるのです。なぜなら神の愛と赦しがそこには注がれているからです。
主は私達を立ち直らせてくださり、こんな私達を用いて兄弟姉妹を励ますことができる者としてくださるのです。キリストにある光は挫折した者、失敗を知る者に託された光であるということを今朝、覚えましょう。主よ、私の恥を通して、あなたの栄光が輝きますように！

新しい出発（８）：「恥は我がもの、栄光は主のもの」

二年を超えるコロナ禍を経験し、私達は今、あります。 教会での礼拝や集会が一年以上も持てないという考えもしなかった日々を私達は過ごしました。このことを通して私達にはどうすることもできないことがあるのだということを私達は心に刻みました。
それに加えてロシアのウクライナへの侵攻が起こり、私達はこの世界に起きている大きな変化を感じています。私が無害であれば、友好的であれば、相手もそれに対して敬意を表してくれるという考えが通用しない世界を私達は毎日、見ています。
色々な意味でこれまでの考え方、生き方を考え直そうとする方達が世界中にはたくさんいることでしょう。そのようなことを踏まえ、私達はこれまで新しい出発というシリーズを持ってきました。
今日はその８回目として「恥は我がもの、栄光は主のもの」というタイトルでメッセージをお話しさせていただきます。
よく聖書の中で私は誰々が好きだということを聞くことがあります。ある人はダビデがいい、パウロがいい、いやヨハネがいいというように考えます。
このことはこの国における人名にも表れています。最近は少なくなってきているかもしれませんが、聖書の人物の名前を我が子につける親は多いのです。
私に関していえば、聖書の人物はどの人も味があって、それぞれから教えられます。そんな中で個人的にはペテロに愛着があります。なぜなら彼が色々な失敗をしたということが人間らしくて親近感がもてるのです。
ペテロはエピソードに欠かない人で、新約聖書において１６０回以上も名前が出てきます。細かく見ていくとキリがありませんが、彼の言動を色々な所で垣間見ることができます。
かつてガリラヤ湖の上を歩かれたイエス様の姿を見て、それなら自分も！と、湖面に一歩を踏み出したものの、風を見て溺れかけるペテロ。
最後の晩餐の席でイエス様が弟子達の足を洗われた時、「私の足は決して洗わないでください」と言い、「それなら私と関わりはない」とイエス様にたしなめられて、「それなら、足も手も頭も」と言い返したペテロ。
その他にも色々なエピソードがありますが、今日はペテロの上に短い時間に起きた一連の３つの出来事を見ていきたいと思います。イエス様は十字架におかかりになる直前、ゲッセマネの園において苦闘の祈りを父なる神にしました。
つまり、父なる神から差し出された十字架という苦き杯を飲み干すということです。その祈りをしながら、イエス様は血のしたたりのような汗を地に落としました。
そして「悲しみのあまり死にそうだ」と言われたのです。あなたは悲しみがあまりにも大きく、死ぬかもしれないと思ったことがありますか。この表現にはとてつもない悲しみが込められています。
その時、イエス様はその場に３人の弟子を連れていきました。その苦しみを共有して共に祈ることを願われたのでしょう。しかし、彼らはその苦しみに対する理解も同情もなく、眠りこけていました。
彼らは２回もイエス様によって起こされ、３回目にも彼らは寝ていたと聖書は記しています。そして、その中にペテロがいました。その後、すぐにユダを先頭に祭司長、民の長老など大勢の人が剣と棒をもって、この園にやってきました。
イエスの弟子の一人、ユダの接吻を合図に捕えるという手はずは整っていたのです。その今、まさにイエス様を裏切ろうとするユダに対してイエス様は「友よ、なんのために来たのか」と言われました。
イエス様はいかなる人間をも友のように向き合いました。ペテロはそのイエス様の側に３年間つき添い、そのイエス様の姿を見てきたはずでした。
しかし、その時、ペテロは剣を抜き、イエスを捕らえようとする大祭司の僕の耳を切り落としたのです。彼は単純明快、カッときたらすぐ行動にでる人でした。
第三の出来事がすぐに起きました。その後に、すぐにイエス様は捕らえられました。弟子たちは皆、イエス様を見捨てて逃げ去ったと聖書は記録しています。
その中、ペテロはかろうじて遠くから、イエス様の後について来て、大祭司の中庭にもぐりこみました。 その時にあの有名な出来事がおこりました。
それはエルサレムの大祭司の中庭で起きました。十字架にかかる数時間前のことです。その時、イエス様は不正な偽証を得ようと祭司長、律法学者、多くの偽証者に囲まれていました。
イエス様を弁護してくれる人は一人もいませんでした。その時、ペテロは外で焚き火にあたっていました。その時の状況について全ての福音書は記録しています。
その時に一人の女中がペテロに言います。「あなたもあのガリラヤ人イエスと一緒だった」（マタイ２６章６９節）。 これに対してペテロは人々の前で「あなたは何を言っているのか分からない」と打ち消しました（マタイ２６章７０節）。
また女中が尋ねます「この人はナザレ人イエスと一緒だった」ペテロは再び、誓って打ち消します、「そんな人は知らない」（マタイ２６章７１節ー７２節）。
そこに立っていた人達がざわめき言います。「確かにあなたも彼らの仲間だ。言葉づかいであなたのことがわかる」（マタイ２６章７３節）ペテロは呪いの言葉を吐きながら激しく誓って言います、「その人のことは何も知らない」
実はこの三度の否認をする数時間前にペテロは「主よ、私は獄にでも、また死にいたるまでも、あなたとご一緒に行く覚悟です」（ルカ２２章３３節）と言っていました。
そして、それに対してイエス様はこのペテロに言われていました「ペテロよ、あなたに言っておく。今日、にわとりが鳴くまでに、あなたは三度わたしを知らないと言うであろう」そして、このイエスの言葉通りに彼は三度イエスを否定し、その時、鶏の鳴き声が響いたのです。
聖書はその時、この中庭を通り抜けていくイエスとペテロの目が合い、 ペテロはそこから飛び出し、男泣きに泣いたと記録しています。
この大祭司の家の跡が今もエルサレムにあります。そこにある外庭の階段はイエス様の時代からあるもので、まさしくこのペテロやイエス様がそこを歩いたと言われています。
かつてエルサレムに滞在していた時,まだ観光客が詰めける前の早朝、エルサレムの旧市街を一人で散策していた時、な、なんと鶏と遭遇しました。思わず、聞きました「お前はあのペテロの否認の後に声高らかに鳴いたあの鶏の子孫か？」と。
現在の大祭司の邸宅後にはこんな銅像があります。誰しもが考えるように、この銅像を造った人はその作品の中にしっかりと鶏を入れました。ペテロの失敗は今、全世界の人達が知るところなのです。
この三度ということは、一度否定しても、あとの二回はそれを打ち消して、正しいことを言うチャンスがあったということです。しかし、ペテロはその機会があったにも関わらず、命をかけてあなたに従うと言ったお方を否定したのです。
主にある皆さん、私達はペテロを笑うのではなく、この彼の姿に自分の姿を重ね合わせないでしょうか。
約束したこと、決意したことが何度も変わり、それをやり直すチャンスがありながら、しかし、結局のところ妥協が生まれ、事は何の進展もなく、解決もなく前に進まない。口では大層なことを言いますが、都合が悪くなれば実際には何もしない。
彼の姿は私達の姿です。
普通の小説なら、ペテロはここで終わりでしょう。せいぜい、裏切り者、笑われ者として物語に登場するぐらいでしょう。しかし、イエス様はそんな彼に復活なされ、顕れました。
あのガリラヤ湖でイエス様はもう一度、ペテロをはじめ弟子たちにその姿を現されたのです。大祭司の中庭の焚き火の側で三度、イエスを否んだペテロのために、 イエス様はガリラヤ湖畔で自ら焚き火をおこし、魚を焼き、彼を迎えました。
そして、あの３度の否認を一つ一つペテロの心から取り除くかのようにして、その湖畔でペテロに３度聞かれたのです。「私を愛するか」、そして「私の羊を養いなさい」と。
イエス様が十字架にかかる前、イエス様を三度、否む前、イエス様はペテロにこう語りかけていました。「シモン、シモン、見よ、サタンはあなたを麦のようにふるいにかけることを願って許された。しかし、わたしはあなたの信仰がなくならないように、あなたのために祈った。それで、あなたが立ち直った時には、兄弟たちを力づけてやりなさい」（ルカ２２章３１節－３２節）
そして、この言葉の後にペテロの「主よ、わたしは獄にでも、また死に至るまでも、あなたとご一緒に行く覚悟です」（３３）という言葉が続き、そして、その後にイエス様の「きょう、鶏が鳴くまでに、あなたは３度、私を知らないと言うであろう」（３４）という言葉が続くのです。
イエス様は気づいておられたのでしょう。これから、ペテロがしでかしてしまうことを。まさしく、それはサタンによってふるいにかけられることだということを。
不思議なことにサタンはそれを願い、そして、それは許されたとある。なぜ、許されたのか？イエスはペテロがそのふるいにかけられ、揺さぶられ、試みられても、彼は立ち直ることができると信じておられました。
否、それだけではない、彼は一度、そのようなところをとおって、自分の自信と力というものが根底から崩される必要がありました。
その経験なくしては、彼は神の器となることはできないということをイエス様は知っていました。そして、その試みによってペテロに信仰がなくならないようにという、イエス様の取り成しの祈りがそこにはあったのです。
かつて弟子たちが朝、起きた時、既にイエスの姿は寝床にはありませんでした。イエス様、常に寂しいところに行かれて一人、祈っておられたからです。
イエス様は誰のために祈られていたのか。彼は自分の弟子のため、そして、この荒削りのペテロのために祈っておられるのです。その信仰がなくならないように。そして、その後にイエスは言われたのです。
「あなたが立ち直った時には、兄弟を力づけてやりなさい」（３１） ‘
神学校時代の恩師の言葉が今も心に残っています。その恩師は１７回、学校を退学し、最後に彼を受け入れた学校は横浜にある中国人の学校だけでした。
先生は幼い時から家庭で暴力をふるい（親から子の暴力ではなく、この先生が母親を殴っていたと言うのです）。
相当の問題児だったらしい。その先生が口ぐせのように言う。「躓いた者だから躓いている者を励ますことができる」のです。
私は神学校ではヘブル語もギリシア語も学びました。しかし、その記憶は定かではありません。 しかし、この言葉を私は決して忘れることはありません。
先生は行く学校がありませんでしたが、中華中学で学んだ中国語を駆使して、台湾や中国の牧師の説教の通訳者として先生は用いられました。さらにつけ加えると先生は私が卒業した後に神学校の院長になりました。 イエスの心を学ぶ者にとりまして、こんなに相応しいリーダーがいるでしょうか。
主にある皆さん、神様のなさることはいつも不思議で満ちています！イエスはこの法則をペテロに当てはめたのです。
もし、皆さんの中に躓いたり、挫折を経験した方がいるとしたら、全うな道を歩んでこなかったなという方、しかし、今、キリストにあって、その道を歩んでいるのなら、神様はあなたを用いようとされています。
主にある皆さん、今、イエス様があなたに語りかけている言葉が聞こえますか。
「あなたが立ち直った時には、兄弟を力づけてやりなさい」（３１）
ペテロが大祭司の中庭で３度イエスを知らないと言ったこと。あの出来事をペテロは秘密にしておくことが出来たのではないだろうかと思いませんか。
そんな自分の恥をあえて言う必要は無かったのではないだろうか。実際、それを見ていた弟子はいなかったであろうと思う。しかし、それは全ての福音書に記されている。なぜか？彼自身がこの三度の自分の失敗を語り続けたからです。
彼の失敗は自分に対する失望は、イエスの愛と恵みに包み込まれていたということを彼は知ったからです。だから、彼は何かある度にはばかることなく、この出来事を仲間に話したのでしょう。
それは何と力強い証であったことでしょうか。彼の失敗とそれに伴うイエスの愛を聞いた、うなだれていた者達の顔が前を向き、やがてその目がキラキラと輝きだすのです。それを聞いた者達はどんなに慰められ、励まされたことでしょう。
もし、私達が胸を張って「恥は我がもの、栄光は主のもの」と生きることができるのなら、皆さん、お気づきでしょうか、それはイコール私達の魂の解放を言い表しているということを！
私達は誰を前にして自分の恥を隠そうとしているのでしょうか。取り繕うとしているのでしょうか。 イエス・キリストは身ぐるみ剥がされて、孤立無援、あなたや私のために十字架におかかり下さったのです。
私たちは変わることができます。それには色々な原因があります。その中で最大のもの、すなわち私達を変えうる最大のものは愛です。赦しです。
絶対に許されない過ちをしたにも関わらず、それを受け止め、許してくださる、その愛を見て、どうして私たちは変わらずにいられようか。
皆さん、イエス様がペテロに初めてお会いになった時、舟と網を捨てて従って行った時、ペテロを見られたイエス様が何と言ったでしょうか。
「あなたはヨハネの子、シモンである。あなたをケパと呼ぶことにする」（ヨハネ１章４２節）
｢ケパ｣とは「岩」という意味です。風を見て恐れ、捕えに来た者になりふりかまわず剣を振りかざし、大祭司の中庭で女中が発した言葉におおいに動揺した彼がイエスの言葉とおり、「岩」と変えられていくのです。
この希望がイエスを裏切ったペテロに託されたように、生活の中で、時に傷つき、挫折し、行き詰まっている私達にも与えられていることを確信しましょう。
挫折や躓きはいつまでも私達の心に残り、暗い影を落とし、それが私達の言動を押し留めるかもしれません。しかし、その挫折を私達がどのように捉えるかによって、それは私達の宝となるのです。なぜなら神の力がそこに注がれるからです。.
主は私達を立ち直らせてくださり、こんな私達を用いて兄弟姉妹を励ますことができる者としてくださるのです。キリストにある光は挫折した者、失敗を知る者に託された光であるということを今朝、覚えましょう。お祈りしましょう。
New Beginning (8):”Shame is mine and glory belongs to the Lord,”

After more than two years of the pandemic, we are here now. We could not have church services or meetings for over a year, which was unthinkable to us before the pandemic. Through this we have learned that there are some things we have no control over.
Add to that the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and we are feeling great changes taking place in our world. Every day, we see a world where being harmless and friendly to others does not necessarily mean that they will reciprocate in the same way.
In many ways, there are many people around the world who are reflecting on their past ways of thinking and living. With this in mind, we have had a series called New Beginnings.
Today I would like to share with you the 8th message of the series, titled “Shame is mine, Glory belongs to the Lord”
I often hear people talk about who they like in the Bible. Some people think David is the best, or that Paul is good, or that John is good, and so on.
This is also evident in the names of people in the United States. It may be less common these days, but many parents name their children after biblical figures.
As far as I am concerned, I think every biblical figure is unique in their own way, and I am taught by each of them.Among them, I am personally attached to Peter because of his many failures, which makes him very human-like and relatable.
Peter is a man of many episodes, and his name is mentioned more than 160 times in the New Testament.There are endless examples of where we can catch glimpses of his words and deeds in many places.
He once saw Jesus walking on the Lake of Galilee, and decided he would as well! Peter took his first step onto the lake, but when he saw the wind, he almost drowned.
When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet at the Last Supper, Peter said, “you shall never wash my feet,” and when Jesus told him, “If I do not wash your feet, you have no part with me.” And Peter replied, “Then Lord, do not just wash my feet but my hands and my head as well! ”
There are many other episodes, but today we will look at a series of three events that occurred in a short period of time over Peter’s life.
Just prior to his crucifixion, Jesus prayed the prayer of struggle to God the Father in the Garden of Gethsemane.
In other words, he drank the bitter cup of the cross offered by God the Father. While praying, Jesus dropped a trickle of bloody sweat on the ground.
Then He said, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death” Have you ever thought that your sorrow is so great that you might die? This expression is filled with tremendous sorrow.
At that time, Jesus took three disciples with him. He must have wished to share the suffering and wanted to pray with them. But they had no understanding or compassion for His suffering and were asleep.
They were awakened by Jesus twice, and the Bible notes that the third time they were still asleep. And Peter was one of them.
Soon after, a great multitude of people came to the garden, led by Judas, including chief priests and the elders of the people, along with their swords and sticks.
The arrangements were in place to seize Jesus, given the signal of Jesus’ disciple, Judas’ kiss. At this very moment, when Judas was about to betray Jesus, Jesus said, “Friend, what have you come here for?”
Jesus treated every human being like a friend. Peter had accompanied Jesus for three years and should have seen this part of him. But Peter drew his sword and cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant who was about to seize Jesus. He was a simple-minded man, quick to take action when he lost his temper.
The third event happened quickly. Soon after, Jesus was captured. The Bible records that all of the disciples abandoned Jesus and fled.
In the midst of this, Peter followed Jesus from afar and slipped into the courtyard of the high priest. It was then that the famous event occurred.
It happened in the courtyard of the high priest in Jerusalem. It was a few hours before the crucifixion. At that time, Jesus was surrounded by the chief priests, scribes, in an attempt to obtain false witnesses.
There was no one to defend Jesus. At that time, Peter was outside, near a fireplace. All the Gospels record the situation at that time.
A maid said to Peter, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee”(Matthew 26:69). Peter denied it before them all by saying, “I don’t know what you are talking about” (Matthew 26:70).
The maid asks again, “This fellow was with Jesus of Nazareth”. He denied it again, with an oath, “I don’t know the man” (Matthew 26:71-72).
The people standing there murmured, “Surely you are one of them; your accent gives you away.”(Matthew 26:73) Then he began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the man!”
In fact, a few hours before these three denials, Peter had said, “Lord, I am ready to go with you even to prison and even to death” (Luke 22:33).
And in response, Jesus said to this Peter, “I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me.” (Luke 22:34)
And just as Jesus said, Peter denied Him three times, and shortly after, the rooster crowed. The Bible records that at that moment, Jesus and Peter’s eyes met as they passed through this courtyard.
Peter leaped out and began to weep. The ruins of this high priest’s house are still in Jerusalem.
The steps of the outer garden have been there since the time of Jesus, and it is said that Peter and Jesus walked there.
When I was staying in Jerusalem, I was strolling alone in the Old City of Jerusalem in the early morning even before the tourists arrived, and I encountered a rooster. Without thinking, I asked, “Are you a descendant from that rooster that crowed so loudly after Peter’s denial?”
Here is a bronze statue that is currently at the high priest’s house. The person who built this statue put a rooster in their work. Peter’s failure is now known to the whole world.
Three times means that even if he denied it the first time, he still had two more chances to counteract it and say the right thing. But even as Peter was given that chance, he denied the one who he said he would even risk his life to follow.
Dear people in the Lord, instead of laughing at Peter, can we not see ourselves in this image of him?
When we promise things, we often change what we decide, and even when given the chance to redo it,
we make compromises, and we are unable to move forward to make any progressions or resolutions. We say things with our mouths, but once it becomes inconvenient, we do nothing.
Peter’s image is our image.
In a normal novel, Peter’s story would end here. At best, he would appear in the story as a traitor and a laughing stock. However, Jesus was resurrected and appeared to him.
On the Lake of Galilee, Jesus appeared to Peter and his disciples one more time. For Peter, who had denied Jesus three times by the fire in the High Priest’s courtyard, Jesus himself came to the shore of Lake Galilee, built a fire, roasted some fish, and welcomed him.
Then, as if to remove each of those three denials from Peter’s heart, He asked him three times by the lake. ”Do you love me?” and “Feed my sheep.”
Before Jesus was crucified, and before Peter denied Him three times, Jesus spoke to Peter, saying.
31 “Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift all of you as wheat. 32 But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32)
These words are followed by Peter’s words, “Lord, I am ready to go with you to prison and to death (33),” and then by Jesus’ words, ““I tell you, Peter, before the rooster crows today, you will deny three times that you know me (34).”
Jesus must have already noticed. He must have realized what Peter was about to do. That is exactly how Satan would sift him out.
Strangely enough, Satan wished for this, and it was granted. Why was this allowed? Jesus believed that Peter would be sifted, shaken, and tested, but that he would recover from it.
No, not only that, Peter needed to go through such a place once and for all and have his self-confidence and power crumbled to its very foundations. Without this experience, Jesus knew that he could not be a vessel of God. And amidst that was Jesus’ prayer, praying that Peter would not lose his faith because of this trial.
Whenever the disciples woke up in the morning, Jesus was already gone from his bed, because He always went to a lonely place to pray, alone. For whom was Jesus praying for? He prayed for His own disciples, which included Peter.
So that his faith would not be lost. And afterwards Jesus said, ‘And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers (31). ‘
The words of my former teacher from seminary still remain in my mind. He had dropped out of school 17 times, and the last school that accepted him was a Chinese school in Yokohama.
There was violence in his home from an early age (he said that it was not parent to child violence, but that he beat his mother). He was apparently quite a problem child. The teacher had a saying. ‘Those who have stumbled can encourage those who are also stumbling.’
In seminary I learned both Hebrew and Greek. However, I am not certain of my memory of it. But I will never forget these words.
He had no school to go to, but using the Chinese he learned, he was used as an interpreter for the sermons of Taiwanese and Chinese pastors. To add to that, he became the dean of the seminary after I graduated.
What kind of leader could be more appropriate for a student who was learning about the heart of Jesus? Dear brothers and sisters, what God does is always full of wonders! Jesus applied this fact to Peter.
If any of you have stumbled or fallen, or if you think that you have not walked a path of righteousness, but you are now with Christ and walking that path, God is going to use you.
Dear brothers and sisters, do you hear the words Jesus is speaking to you now?
‘And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers (31). ‘
Peter said that he did not know Jesus three times in the courtyard of the high priest. Don’t you think that Peter could have kept that incident a secret?
He would not have had to say such a shameful thing about himself. In fact, I don’t think any of the disciples saw this incident.
But it is recorded in all of the Gospels. Why? Because he himself kept recounting his own failures on these three occasions.
He knew that his failure and his disappointment in himself was all wrapped up in the love and grace of Jesus Christ. That is why he told his friends about the incident without fail every time.
What a powerful testimony it was! Hearing of his failure and the love of Jesus that accompanied it,
those with drooping faces are able to look forward, and soon their eyes begin to sparkle. How comforting and encouraging it must have been to those who heard it.
If we can live proudly and say, “Shame is mine and glory belongs to the Lord,” then are you aware this statement can free our souls!
Who are we trying to hide our shame in front of? Jesus Christ was stripped down, left alone, and died on the cross for you and me.
We can all change. There are many things that can cause this. The greatest of them all, the greatest thing that can change us, is love. It is forgiveness.
How can we remain the same when we see that love that accepts and forgives us despite our unforgivable mistakes? When Jesus first met Peter, when he left his boat and nets and followed him, what did Jesus say?
He said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (John 1:42). The word “Cephas” means “rock”
He was afraid of the wind, and he swung his sword at the people that came to seize Jesus, and he was so swayed by the words of the maid in the high priest’s courtyard, but he was transformed into a “rock,” just as Jesus said.
Let us be confident that the same hope that was entrusted to Peter who betrayed Jesus, will also be given to those of us who are sometimes hurt, frustrated, and stuck in life.
Setbacks and stumbles stay with us forever, casting a dark shadow over us that may hold back our words and actions. But depending on how we view the setback, it can become our treasure, because God’s power is poured into it.
The Lord will help us get back on our feet, and He will use us to encourage our brothers and sisters. Let us remember this morning that the light in Christ is a light entrusted to those who have failed and those who know failure. Let’s pray.

１）あなたには聖書中、親近感を覚える人がいますか。なぜその人に惹かれますか？
