Isaac: A Child of Faith, Promise, and Laughter
イサク：信仰、約束、そして笑いの子

Last Sunday, Pastor Okura gave a message on Hagar and Ishmael. 先週の日曜日、大倉牧師はハガルとイシュマエルについてのメッセージをしました。
Through that message, we were reminded of our own unfaithfulness as human beings and yet how God remains faithful. そのメッセージを通して、私達は人間としての自分の不誠実さを知り、同時に神様がいかに真実であるかを知りました。
Indeed, the faithlessness of Abraham and Sarah is seen in the life of Hagar and Ishmael. 実際、アブラハムとサラの不誠実さは、ハガルとイシュマエルの人生に現れています。
As Abraham was called by God to leave his home country and family to go to the land of Canaan, he was also told by God, アブラハムは神に召され、祖国と家族を捨ててカナンの地に行きますが、同時に神様からこう告げられました、
Genesis 12:7（創世記１２章７節）“To your descendants I will give this land.”「わたしはあなたの子孫にこの地を与えます」。
At that time, Abraham was 75 years old and Sarah was 65. その時、アブラハムは７５歳、サラは６５歳でした。
Yet, the fulfillment of this promise did not come until 25 years later. しかし、この約束が成就したのはその２５年後のことでした。
And in the meantime, we see what happened when they could not wait for the fulfillment of this promise and took matters into their own hands. そしてその間に、この約束の成就を待ちきれず、自分達の手で問題を解決した時に何が起こったかを見てみましょう。
In Genesis 16, we see how after ten years of waiting, Sarah came up with a plan to have children. 創世記１６章では、１０年間待ち続けた後、サラが子どもをもうける計画を思いついた様子が描かれています。
She said to Abraham:彼女はアブラハムに言いました：
Genesis 16:2（創世記１６章２節）“Now behold, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my maid; perhaps I will obtain children through her.”「主はわたしに子をお授けになりません。どうぞ、わたしのつかえめの所におはいりください。彼女によってわたしは子をもつことになるでしょう」。
Abraham agreed to what Sarah said, and he ends up taking Sarah’s maid Hagar as his wife, sleeps with her, and she conceives. アブラハムはサラの言うことに同意し、結局サラの召使ハガルを妻として迎え、彼女と寝ました。
The problems that arose from this situation between Sarah and Hagar, and therefore Sarah and Abraham are recorded for us in the rest of Genesis 16. このサラとハガル、ひいてはサラとアブラハムの間に生じた問題は、創世記１６章の残りの部分に記録されています。
Yet, in the midst of all of this, God through an angel tells Hagar the following:しかし、そんな中、神様は天使を通してハガルに次のように告げます：
Genesis 16:10-12（創世記１６章１０節－１２節）“I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count. Behold, you are with child, and you will bear a son; and you shall call his name Ishmael, because the Lord has given heed to your affliction. He will be a wild donkey of a man, his hand will be against everyone, and everyone’s hand will be against him; and he will live to the east of all his brothers.”「わたしは大いにあなたの子孫を増して、数えきれないほどに多くしましょう。あなたは、みごもっています。あなたは男の子を産むでしょう。名をイシマエルと名づけなさい。主があなたの苦しみを聞かれたのです。彼は野ろばのような人となり、その手はすべての人に逆らい、すべての人の手は彼に逆らい、彼はすべての兄弟に敵して住むでしょう」。
Here, we can see God’s mercy and grace, in blessing Hagar, and yes Abraham, ここではアブラハムとサラの不真実ゆえに、イシマエルを身ごもったにもかかわらず、
in spite of the fact that Ishmael was conceived because of the faithlessness of Abraham and Sarah. ハガルをそして、アブラハムを祝福する神様の憐れみと恵みを見ることができます。
Yet, it is true that the issues between Sarah and Hagar were then transferred on to the two sons that shared the same father in Abraham. しかし、サラとハガルの間の問題が、アブラハムという同じ父親を持つ二人の息子に引き継がれたのは事実です。
For as God promised, when Abraham was 100 years old and Sarah was 90, Isaac was born to them in their old age. 神様が約束されたとおり、アブラハムが１００歳、サラが９０歳の時、高齢の二人の間にイサクが生まれたからです。
And as Pastor Okura alluded to last Sunday, those issues still persist till today between the Arabs who are Ishmael’s descendants and the Jews who are Isaac’s descendants. そして、先週の日曜日に大倉牧師が言及したように、イシュマエルの子孫であるアラブ人とイサクの子孫であるユダヤ人の間には、今日まで問題が続いています。
For much of the international news headlines of today can be traced back to the conflict between the descendants of these two sons of Abraham. 今日の国際的なニュースの見出しの多くは、この二人のアブラハムの息子の子孫の間の争いにまで遡ることができるからです。
However, that is not the focus of my message for this morning. しかし、今朝の私のメッセージの焦点はそこではありません。
Today, I would like to focus in on Isaac, and talk about three things concerning him, 今日は、イサクに焦点を当て、イサクに関する３つの事柄と、
and how those three things apply also to us who place our faith in Jesus Christ. その３つの事柄がイエス・キリストに信仰を置く私達にもどのように当てはまるかをお話ししたいと思います。
First of all, Isaac was a child of faith. まず、第一にイサクは信仰の子でした。
As I have already talked about Abraham a few Sundays ago, he is known as the Father of Faith. 数回前の日曜日にアブラハムについてお話ししたように、彼は信仰の父として知られています。
This is because it was his faith in God that “moved” him to action to begin with. それは、そもそも彼を行動に「動かした」のが神への信仰だったからです。
Abraham left his family and homeland because of God’s choosing of him and saying to him the following: アブラハムが家族と故郷を離れたのは、神が彼を選び、次のように彼に言われたからです：
Genesis 12:1-3（創世記１２章１節－３節）“Go forth from your country, and from your relatives and from your father’s house, to the land which I will show you; 2 and I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and so you shall be a blessing; 3 and I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” 1時に主はアブラムに言われた、「あなたは国を出て、親族に別れ、父の家を離れ、わたしが示す地に行きなさい。2わたしはあなたを大いなる国民とし、あなたを祝福し、あなたの名を大きくしよう。あなたは祝福の基となるであろう。3あなたを祝福する者をわたしは祝福し、あなたをのろう者をわたしはのろう。地のすべてのやからは、あなたによって祝福される」。
Furthermore, it was Abraham’s faith in God’s promise to him of “one who will come from your own body, he shall be your heir” (Genesis 15:4), さらに創世記１６章で、ハガルがサラからアブラハムに渡される場面で見られるような性急な行動を実際に引き起こしたのは、
that actually led to the hasty actions which we have seen in Genesis 16 with Hagar being given to Abraham by Sarah. 「あなたの身から出る者があとつぎとなるべきです」（創世記１５章４節）という神様の約束をアブラハムが信じたからです。
The fact that Abraham believed God’s promise regarding this matter is evident by what it says in Genesis 15:5-6. アブラハムがこの件に関する神様の約束を信じたことは、創世記１５章５節から６節に書かれていることからも明らかです。
Genesis 15:5-6（創世記１５章５節－６節）5 And He took him outside and said, “Now look toward the heavens, and count the stars, if you are able to count them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6 Then he believed in the Lord; and He reckoned it to him as righteousness. 5そして主は彼を外に連れ出して言われた、「天を仰いで、星を数えることができるなら、数えてみなさい」。また彼に言われた、「あなたの子孫はあのようになるでしょう」。6アブラムは主を信じた。主はこれを彼の義と認められた。
Yes, we have seen plenty of Abraham’s faithless acts over the past few weeks, この数週間、私達はアブラハムの信仰に欠ける行為をたくさん見てきましたが、
but it still does not change the fact that he is referred to as the Father of Faith. それでも彼が「信仰の父」と呼ばれることに変わりはありません。
The reason for this, and I have mentioned this many times already, is because Abraham’s faith in God continued to grow throughout his lifetime. その理由は、すでに何度も述べたことですが、アブラハムの神様への信仰が、その生涯を通して成長し続けたからです。
His faith in God was not stagnant, and therefore His walk with God was not static. 彼の神への信仰は停滞することなく、したがって神との歩みも静的なものではありませんでした。
In summary of Abraham and Sarah’s faith, the author of the book of Hebrews in the New Testament wrote the following as it relates particularly to their child Isaac: アブラハムとサラの信仰を要約すると、新約聖書のヘブル人への手紙の著者は、特に彼らの子供イサクに関連して次のように書いています：
Hebrews 11:11, 12, 17, 18（へブル人への手紙１１章１１節、１２節、１７節、１８節）11 By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore there was born even of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. 17 By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; 18 it was he to whom it was said, “In Isaac your descendants shall be called.” 。 11信仰によって、サラもまた、年老いていたが、種を宿す力を与えられた。約束をなさったかたは真実であると、信じていたからである。12このようにして、ひとりの死んだと同様な人から、天の星のように、海べの数えがたい砂のように、おびただしい人が生れてきたのである。17信仰によって、アブラハムは、試錬を受けたとき、イサクをささげた。すなわち、約束を受けていた彼が、そのひとり子をささげたのである。18この子については、「イサクから出る者が、あなたの子孫と呼ばれるであろう」と言われていたのであった。
Here, we see the truth concerning Sarah and Abraham’s faith in God in providing them with a son born to the two of them. ここには、サラとアブラハムが二人の間に男の子を授かったという神への信仰に関する真実が示されています。
Yes, it took 25 years before the fulfillment of God’s promise to them, and they acted faithlessly along the way. 確かに神の約束が成就するまでには２５年の歳月を要し、その過程で彼らは不誠実な行動をとりました。
However, it still does not negate the fact that ultimately it was by their faith しかし、それでもなお、最終的にイサクが彼らのもとに生まれたのは、
in God’s faithfulness to His promise that Isaac was born to them. 神様の約束に対する真実さを信じる彼らの信仰によるものだという事実を否定するものではありません。
And furthermore, when Abraham’s faith in God was tested as it related to Isaac そしてさらに、イサクが彼の子孫の呼び名となるものであることに関連して、
being the one in which his descendants would be called, Abraham did not waver in his faith. アブラハムの神への信仰が試されたとき、アブラハムはその信仰を揺るがしませんでした。
At the time of offering Isaac as a burnt offering, Abraham did not hesitate doing what God had asked of him. イサクを燔祭として捧げるとき、アブラハムは神が彼に求めたことを躊躇なく実行しました。
What is amazing is also the faith in God that Isaac displayed as he humbly submitted to Abraham in allowing his father to bound and place him on the altar before God. 驚くべきことは、イサクが謙虚にアブラハムに服従し、父がイサクを縛り、神の前に祭壇に置くのを許した時に示した神様への信仰でもあります。
Genesis 22:9-14（創世記２２章９節－１４節）9 Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood. 10 Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son. 11 But the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven and said, “Abraham, Abraham!” And he said, “Here I am.” 12 He said, “Do not stretch out your hand against the lad, and do nothing to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” 13 Then Abraham raised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ram caught in the thicket by his horns; and Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up for a burnt offering in the place of his son. 14 Abraham called the name of that place The Lord Will Provide, as it is said to this day, “In the mount of the Lord it will be provided.” 9彼らが神の示された場所にきたとき、アブラハムはそこに祭壇を築き、たきぎを並べ、その子イサクを縛って祭壇のたきぎの上に載せた。10そしてアブラハムが手を差し伸べ、刃物を執ってその子を殺そうとした時、11主の使が天から彼を呼んで言った、「アブラハムよ、アブラハムよ」。彼は答えた、「はい、ここにおります」。12み使が言った、「わらべを手にかけてはならない。また何も彼にしてはならない。あなたの子、あなたのひとり子をさえ、わたしのために惜しまないので、あなたが神を恐れる者であることをわたしは今知った」。13この時アブラハムが目をあげて見ると、うしろに、角をやぶに掛けている一頭の雄羊がいた。アブラハムは行ってその雄羊を捕え、それをその子のかわりに燔祭としてささげた。14それでアブラハムはその所の名をアドナイ・エレと呼んだ。これにより、人々は今日もなお「主の山に備えあり」と言う。
I believe that Isaac was able to humbly submit to what his father did because he had faith in God as Abraham did, which goes back to his conversation with his father before that time. イサクが父のしたことに謙虚に従うことができたのは、彼がアブラハムと同じように神様への信仰を持っていたからだと私は信じています。
Genesis 22:6-8（創世記２２章６節－８節）6 Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. 7 Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, “My father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” And he said, “Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?” 8 Abraham said, “God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together. 6アブラハムは燔祭のたきぎを取って、その子イサクに負わせ、手に火と刃物とを執って、ふたり一緒に行った。7やがてイサクは父アブラハムに言った、「父よ」。彼は答えた、「子よ、わたしはここにいます」。イサクは言った、「火とたきぎとはありますが、燔祭の小羊はどこにありますか」。8アブラハムは言った、「子よ、神みずから燔祭の小羊を備えてくださるであろう」。こうしてふたりは一緒に行った。
Thus, we see that both Abraham and Isaac trusted in God’s provision of a lamb for the burnt offering. このように、アブラハムもイサクも、燔祭のための子羊を神様が備えてくださることを信頼していたことが分かります。
So, we can say that Isaac was a child of faith. He was the son of the Father of Faith, Abraham. つまり、イサクは信仰の子であったと言えます。イサクは信仰の父アブラハムの子でありました。
Many years later from the time of what took place on Mount Moriah, when Isaac was already a grown man, we see of how God provided him with a wife. モリヤ山での出来事から何年も経って、イサクが成人していた時、神様がどのようにして彼に妻を与えたということを私達は知っています。
We find the story regarding the search for Isaac’s wife found in Genesis 24. イサクの妻探しの話は創世記２４章にあります。
There, we read of how Abraham’s chief servant was sent to Abraham’s relatives to bring back a wife for Isaac. そこには、イサクのために妻を連れ戻ってくるために、アブラハムの親類のもとにアブラハムの僕が遣わされた経緯が書かれています。
God leads Abraham’s servant to meet Rebekah, who was Abraham’s brother Nahor’s granddaughter. 神様はアブラハムの僕を、アブラハムの兄ナホルの孫娘であるリベカに会わせます。
We know that this was no “chance” encounter but truly God-ordained, 私達は、このことが「偶然」の出会いではなく、まさに神の定めによるものであったことを知っています。
because Abraham’s servant had asked God for the fulfillment of some specific signs that would point to the right woman to be Isaac’s wife. なぜなら、アブラハムの僕は、イサクの妻にふさわしい女性を指し示す具体的なしるしの成就を神に求めていたからです。
After meeting Rebekah’s family and sharing about Abraham and Isaac, Abraham’s servant requests for Rebekah to be given to Isaac as his wife. リベカの家族に会い、アブラハムとイサクについて話した後、アブラハムの僕はリベカをイサクの妻にしたいと願い出ます。
The brother and mother of Rebekah recognize that the whole matter was of God, so they agree in giving Rebekah in marriage to Isaac. リベカの兄と母は、このことがすべて神様によるものであることを認め、リベカをイサクに嫁がせることに同意します。
However, they were reluctant to send her right away with Abraham’s servant, so they ask Rebekah about the matter. しかし、リベカをすぐにアブラハムのしもべと一緒に送ることには抵抗があったので、彼らはリベカにそのことを尋ねます。
Rebekah agrees to go with Abraham’s servant right away to where Isaac lived. リベカは、アブラハムの僕と一緒にイサクの住むところへすぐに行くことに同意します。
Then, when Isaac saw Rebekah, he took Rebekah, and she became his wife, and he loved her. そして、イサクはリベカを見て、リベカを妻とし、リベカを愛しました。
However, just like Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah were without children for a while. しかし、アブラハムとサラのように、イサクとリベカにはしばらく子供がいませんでした。
But even in this, we get to see Isaac’s faith in God regarding the matter.しかし、そのような中でも、イサクの神への信仰を見ることができます。
Genesis 25:19-21（創世記２５章１９節－２１節）19 Now these are the records of the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham became the father of Isaac; 20 and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. 21 Isaac prayed to the Lord on behalf of his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord answered him and Rebekah his wife conceived. 19アブラハムの子イサクの系図は次のとおりである。アブラハムの子はイサクであって、20イサクは四十歳の時、パダンアラムのアラムびとベトエルの娘で、アラムびとラバンの妹リベカを妻にめとった。21イサクは妻が子を産まなかったので、妻のために主に祈り願った。主はその願いを聞かれ、妻リベカはみごもった。
Thus, we see Isaac’s faith in God in how he prayed to God on behalf of his wife Rebekah for a child to be given to them. このように、イサクが妻リベカに代わって神様に子を祈ったことに、イサクの神様への信仰を見ることができます。
And God answered Isaac’s prayer by providing he and Rebekah with twin boys. そして神はイサクの祈りに答えて、彼とリベカに双子の男の子を授けられました。
Pastor Okura will talk about the twin boys Esau and Jacob that were born to Isaac and Rebekah, next Sunday. 大倉牧師は次の日曜日にイサクとリベカの間に生まれた双子の男の子エサウとヤコブについて話す予定です。
But what we see throughout Isaac’s life is the common faith in God that he shared with his father Abraham. しかし、イサクの生涯を通して見えてくるのは、父アブラハムと共通する神への信仰です。
Thus, we can truly say that Isaac was a child of faith. このように、イサクは信仰の子であったと言えます。
Secondly, Isaac was a child of promise. 第二に、イサクは約束の子であった。
Although both Ishmael and Isaac were born to Abraham, the Bible makes it clear that Isaac was the child that God had promised to Abraham and Sarah. イシマエルもイサクもアブラハムのもとに生まれましたが、聖書は、イサクこそ神がアブラハムとサラに約束した子であることを明らかにしています。
We see this when Abraham was ninety-years old, and the Lord appeared to him and spoke to him. アブラハムが９０歳になった時、主が現れ、彼に語られました。
Genesis 17:15-22（創世記１７章１５節－２２節）15 Then God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall be her name. 16 I will bless her, and indeed I will give you a son by her. Then I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her.” 17 Then Abraham fell on his face and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to a man one hundred years old? And will Sarah, who is ninety years old, bear a child?” 18 And Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before You!” 19 But God said, “No, but Sarah your wife will bear you a son, and you shall call his name Isaac; and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20 As for Ishmael, I have heard you; behold, I will bless him, and will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. He shall become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation. 21 But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this season next year.” 22 When He finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham. 15神はまたアブラハムに言われた、「あなたの妻サライは、もはや名をサライといわず、名をサラと言いなさい。16わたしは彼女を祝福し、また彼女によって、あなたにひとりの男の子を授けよう。わたしは彼女を祝福し、彼女を国々の民の母としよう。彼女から、もろもろの民の王たちが出るであろう」。17アブラハムはひれ伏して笑い、心の中で言った、「百歳の者にどうして子が生れよう。サラはまた九十歳にもなって、どうして産むことができようか」。18そしてアブラハムは神に言った、「どうかイシマエルがあなたの前に生きながらえますように」。19神は言われた、「いや、あなたの妻サラはあなたに男の子を産むでしょう。名をイサクと名づけなさい。わたしは彼と契約を立てて、後の子孫のために永遠の契約としよう。20またイシマエルについてはあなたの願いを聞いた。わたしは彼を祝福して多くの子孫を得させ、大いにそれを増すであろう。彼は十二人の君たちを生むであろう。わたしは彼を大いなる国民としよう。21しかしわたしは来年の今ごろサラがあなたに産むイサクと、わたしの契約を立てるであろう」。22神はアブラハムと語り終え、彼を離れて、のぼられた。
Furthermore, as we saw last week, when Sarah asked Abraham to drive Hagar and Ishmael away after Isaac was born, さらに先週見たように、イサクが生まれた後、サラがアブラハムにハガルとイシマエルを追い払うように頼んだ時、
God said the following to Abraham who was distressed over the matter. 神はそのことで悩んでいたアブラハムに次のように言われました。
Genesis 21:11-13（創世記２１章１１節－１３節）11 The matter distressed Abraham greatly because of his son. 12 But God said to Abraham, “Do not be distressed because of the lad and your maid; whatever Sarah tells you, listen to her, for through Isaac your descendants shall be named. 13 And of the son of the maid I will make a nation also, because he is your descendant.” 11この事で、アブラハムはその子のために非常に心配した。12神はアブラハムに言われた、「あのわらべのため、またあなたのはしためのために心配することはない。サラがあなたに言うことはすべて聞きいれなさい。イサクに生れる者が、あなたの子孫と唱えられるからです。13しかし、はしための子もあなたの子ですから、これをも、一つの国民とします」。
The New Testament also points out the fact that Isaac was a child of promise. 新約聖書もまた、イサクが約束の子であったことを指摘しています。
Romans 9:6-9（ローマ人への手紙９章６節－９節）6 But it is not as though the word of God has failed. For they are not all Israel who are descended from Israel; 7 nor are they all children because they are Abraham’s descendants, but: “through Isaac your descendants will be named.” 8 That is, it is not the children of the flesh who are children of God, but the children of the promise are regarded as descendants. 9 For this is the word of promise: “At this time I will come, and Sarah shall have a son.” 6しかし、神の言が無効になったというわけではない。なぜなら、イスラエルから出た者が全部イスラエルなのではなく、7また、アブラハムの子孫だからといって、その全部が子であるのではないからである。かえって「イサクから出る者が、あなたの子孫と呼ばれるであろう」。8すなわち、肉の子がそのまま神の子なのではなく、むしろ約束の子が子孫として認められるのである。9約束の言葉はこうである。「来年の今ごろ、わたしはまた来る。そして、サラに男子が与えられるであろう」。
In Galatians 4, the apostle Paul compares the two sons born to Abraham, ガラテヤ４章で、使徒パウロはアブラハムに生まれた二人の息子を比較し、
and makes it clear that Isaac was the child that God had promised to Abraham and Sarah. イサクは神様がアブラハムとサラに約束した子であることを明らかにしています。
He also explains that Christians are children of promise in the following manner: 彼はまた、クリスチャンが約束の子であることを次のように説明しています：
Galatians 4:28（ガラテヤ人への手紙４章２８節）And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise. 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、イサクのように、約束の子である。
Thus, we can truly say that Isaac was a child of promise. このように、イサクは約束の子だったと確かに言うことができるのです。
Lastly, Isaac was a child of laughter. 最後にイサクは笑いの子でありました。
The name Isaac literally means “laughter”. イサクという名前は文字通り「笑い」を意味します。
The name is derived from the Hebrew name Yitzhak, which means “he will laugh” or “he will rejoice”. この名前はヘブライ語のイツハクという名前に由来し「彼は笑う」「彼は喜ぶ」という意味なのです。
Thus, it is often associated with joy and happiness. このようにイサクはしばしば喜びや幸せを連想させます。
And the announcing of Isaac’s birth and his birth itself was an occasion for much laughter and rejoicing. そして、イサクの誕生の告知と誕生そのものが、多くの笑いと喜びの機会となりました。
We see this when God through three angels that visited Abraham had talked to Sarah about her having a baby. アブラハムを訪問した３人の天使を通して、神がサラに赤ん坊が生まることを告げた時、私達はそのことを見ました。
Genesis 18:9-14（創世記１８章９節－１４節）9 Then they said to him, “Where is Sarah your wife?” And he said, “There, in the tent.” 10 He said, “I will surely return to you at this time next year; and behold, Sarah your wife will have a son.” And Sarah was listening at the tent door, which was behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; Sarah was past childbearing. 12 Sarah laughed to herself, saying, “After I have become old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” 13 And the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh, saying, ‘Shall I indeed bear a child, when I am so old?’ 14 Is anything too difficult for the Lord? And then we read of what Sarah said after Isaac was born and was circumcised on the eighth day after his birth. そして、イサクが生まれて８日目に割礼を受けた後、サラが言った言葉が書かれています。
Genesis 21:6-7（創世記２１章６節－７節）6 Sarah said, “God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh with me.” 7 And she said, “Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age.” 6そしてサラは言った、「神はわたしを笑わせてくださった。聞く者は皆わたしのことで笑うでしょう」。7また言った、「サラが子に乳を飲ませるだろうと、だれがアブラハムに言い得たであろう。それなのに、わたしは彼が年とってから、子を産んだ」。
So, we see that Isaac was a child of laughter. つまり、イサクは笑いの子だったのです。
As I said earlier, I wanted to talk about three things concerning Isaac, 先ほど申し上げたように、イサクに関する３つの事柄についてお話ししたいと思います。
and how those three things apply also to us who place our faith in Jesus Christ.そして、その３つの事柄が、イエス・キリストに信仰を置く私たちにも当てはまるということをお話ししたいと思います。
The three things concerning Isaac that I have talked about are that He was a: 私がお話ししたイサクに関す３つのこととは、イサクが次のような人であったということです：
Child of faith 信仰の子
Child of promise 約束の子
Child of laughter 笑いの子
And the wonderful thing for us to know today is that through faith in Jesus Christ, we too as God’s children are children of faith, promise, and laughter. そして今日、私達が知るべき素晴らしいことは、イエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって、神の子である私達もまた、信仰の子、約束の子、笑いの子であるということなのです。
So as Christians, like Isaac, we are children of faith. ですから、クリスチャンとして、イサクのように、私達は信仰の子なのです。
John 1:12-13（ヨハネの福音書１章１２節－１３節）12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, 13 who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. 12しかし、彼を受けいれた者、すなわち、その名を信じた人々には、彼は神の子となる力を与えたのである。13それらの人は、血すじによらず、肉の欲によらず、また、人の欲にもよらず、ただ神によって生れたのである。
Through faith in Jesus Christ, God has given us the right to become His children. イエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって、神は私達に神の子となる権利を与えてくださいました。
Thus, in this sense, we are truly children of faith. この意味で、私達はまさに信仰の子なのです。
And it is truly those who follow in the footsteps of Abraham, the Father of Faith, that are children of faith. そして、信仰の父であるアブラハムの足跡をたどる者こそ、まさに信仰の子なのです。
Galatians 3:6-9（ガラテヤ人への手紙３章６節－９節）6 Even so Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him as righteousness. 7 Therefore, be sure that it is those who are of faith who are sons of Abraham. 8 The Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations will be blessed in you.” 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer. 6このように、アブラハムは「神を信じた。それによって、彼は義と認められた」のである。7だから、信仰による者こそアブラハムの子であることを、知るべきである。8聖書は、神が異邦人を信仰によって義とされることを、あらかじめ知って、アブラハムに、「あなたによって、すべての国民は祝福されるであろう」との良い知らせを、予告したのである。9このように、信仰による者は、信仰の人アブラハムと共に、祝福を受けるのである。
Just as Abraham believed God, and God reckoned it to him as righteousness (Genesis 15:6), likewise, we too are made righteous through faith in Jesus Christ. アブラハムが神を信じ、神がそれを義とされたように（創世記１５章６節）、私達もイエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって義とされます。
And as such children of faith, we are given the Holy Spirit. そして、そのような信仰の子として、私達には聖霊が与えられています。
Romans 8:15-17（ローマ人への手紙８章１５節－１７節）15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. 15あなたがたは再び恐れをいだかせる奴隷の霊を受けたのではなく、子たる身分を授ける霊を受けたのである。その霊によって、わたしたちは「アバ、父よ」と呼ぶのである。16御霊みずから、わたしたちの霊と共に、わたしたちが神の子であることをあかしして下さる。17もし子であれば、相続人でもある。神の相続人であって、キリストと栄光を共にするために苦難をも共にしている以上、キリストと共同の相続人なのである。
As Christians, we are children of faith. クリスチャンとして、私達は信仰の子です。
We are also children of promise. 私たちはまた、約束の子でもあります。
The fact that the Holy Spirit has been given to us is proof that we are children of promise. 聖霊が私達に与えられていることは、私達が約束の子であることの証拠です。
Galatians 3:13-14, 26-29（ガラテヤ人の手紙３章１３節－１４節、２６節－２９節）13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”— 14 in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. . . . 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise. 13キリストは、わたしたちのためにのろいとなって、わたしたちを律法ののろいからあがない出して下さった。聖書に、「木にかけられる者は、すべてのろわれる」と書いてある。14それは、アブラハムの受けた祝福が、イエス・キリストにあって異邦人に及ぶためであり、約束された御霊を、わたしたちが信仰によって受けるためである。。。。26あなたがたはみな、キリスト・イエスにある信仰によって、神の子なのである。27キリストに合うバプテスマを受けたあなたがたは、皆キリストを着たのである。28もはや、ユダヤ人もギリシヤ人もなく、奴隷も自由人もなく、男も女もない。あなたがたは皆、キリスト・イエスにあって一つだからである。29もしキリストのものであるなら、あなたがたはアブラハムの子孫であり、約束による相続人なのである。
And as was mentioned earlier: そして、先にも述べたように：
Galatians 4:28（ガラテヤ人への手紙４章２８節）And you brethren, like Isaac, are children of promise. 兄弟たちよ。あなたがたは、イサクのように、約束の子である。
This is Paul’s words written to the Galatian Christians, which applies to all Christians. これはガラテヤのクリスチャンに書かれたパウロの言葉ですが、全てのクリスチャンに当てはまることです。
As Christians, we are children of promise. クリスチャンとして、私達は約束の子どもです。
And we are also children of laughter. そして、私達も笑いの子です。
We are children of laughter and joy because our Heavenly Father rejoices over us. 天の父が私達を喜んでくださるから、私達は喜びと笑いの子なのです。
Zephaniah 3:17（ゼパニヤ書３章１７節）“The Lord your God is in your midst, a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.” 「あなたの神、主はあなたのうちにいまし、勇士であって、勝利を与えられる。彼はあなたのために喜び楽しみ、その愛によってあなたを新にし、祭の日のようにあなたのために喜び呼ばわられる」。
These words written by the prophet Zephaniah picture for us God the Father rejoicing over us as a parent joyously embraces a child in their arms. 預言者ゼパニヤによって書かれたこの言葉は、親が子を抱きしめて喜ぶように、父なる神が私達を喜んでくださる姿を描いています。
As Isaac brought joy and laughter to Abraham and Sarah, so do God’s children to the Heavenly Father. イサクがアブラハムとサラに喜びと笑いをもたらしたように、神の子供達も天の父に喜びをもたらします。
The fact that God rejoices over His children can be seen in what Jesus said through the parables of the lost sheep, 神様がご自分の子供達を喜ばれることは、ルカによる福音書１５章にある「失われた羊」、
the lost coin, and the lost son, found in Luke 15.「失われたコイン」、「失われた息子」のたとえ話を通してイエスが語られたことにも表れています。
Luke 15:6（ルカによる福音書１５章６節）“And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’” 「家に帰ってきて友人や隣り人を呼び集め、『わたしと一緒に喜んでください。いなくなった羊を見つけましたから』と言うであろう」。
Luke 15:9（ルカによる福音書１５章９節）“When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’” 「そして、見つけたなら、女友だちや近所の女たちを呼び集めて、『わたしと一緒に喜んでください。なくした銀貨が見つかりましたから』と言うであろう」。
Luke 15:31-32（ルカによる福音書１５章３１節－３２節）31 “And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32 But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’” 31「すると父は言った、『子よ、あなたはいつもわたしと一緒にいるし、またわたしのものは全部あなたのものだ。32しかし、このあなたの弟は、死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから、喜び祝うのはあたりまえである』」。
Such is how God sees His dear children. They are celebrated and rejoiced over! 神はそのようにして親愛なる子供達を見ています。 彼らは祝福され、喜ばれるのです！
As children of laughter, we do not only bring joy to God, but we have joy that comes from being children of God. 笑いの子として、私達は神様に喜びをもたらすだけでなく、神様の子であることから来る喜びを持っています。
We are reminded of this in the following passages of Scripture.聖書の次の箇所で、私たちはこのことを思い起こします。
James 1:2-4（ヤコブの手紙１章２節－４節）2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. 2わたしの兄弟たちよ。あなたがたが、いろいろな試錬に会った場合、それをむしろ非常に喜ばしいことと思いなさい。3あなたがたの知っているとおり、信仰がためされることによって、忍耐が生み出されるからである。4だから、なんら欠点のない、完全な、でき上がった人となるように、その忍耐力を十分に働かせるがよい。
Romans 15:13（ローマ人への手紙１５章１３節）Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. どうか、望みの神が、信仰から来るあらゆる喜びと平安とを、あなたがたに満たし、聖霊の力によって、あなたがたを、望みにあふれさせて下さるように。
Galatians 5:22-23（ガラテヤ人への手紙５章２２節－２３節）22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 22しかし、御霊の実は、愛、喜び、平和、寛容、慈愛、善意、忠実、23柔和、自制であって、これらを否定する律法はない。
So, as Christians, we are also children of laughter. God fills our lives with His joy! だから、クリスチャンとして、私達は笑いの子供でもあるのです。神様は私達の人生を喜びで満たしてくださいます！
This is the good news concerning our relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ! これは、イエス・キリストを信じる信仰を通しての神との関係に関する良い知らせなのです！
Thus, as we continue to gather together to offer worship to God every Sunday, let us remember that we are God’s children of faith in Jesus Christ. このように、私達が毎週日曜日に集まって神様に礼拝を捧げ続ける時、私達がイエス・キリストを信じる神の子であることを思い出しましょう。
Let us also encourage one another as God’s children of promise who have the Holy Spirit at work in us. そして、私達の内に聖霊が働いておられる神の約束の子として、互いに励まし合いましょう。
And as God’s children of laughter, let us rejoice in the Lord, knowing that our Heavenly Father loves us dearly and rejoices over us. そして、神の笑いの子として、天の父が私達を心から愛し、私達を喜んでくださることを知って、主にあって喜びましょう。
Indeed, in Christ Jesus, we are beloved children of God. 実にキリスト・イエスにあって、私達は神に愛された子どもなのです。
And we are to live each day, expressing our love to our Father in Heaven, and lifting up our praises to Him. そして私達は、天の父に私達の愛を表し、私達の賛美を捧げながら日々を生きるのです。
