Moses: Testimony of God’s Truth and Grace
モーセ：神の真実と恵みの証し

Good morning!  Today, I am going to share Mose’s testimony as if I am Moses.　 おはようございます！ 今日は、私がモーセになったつもりで、モーセの証しを、お分かち合いたいと思います。

Before, I get into character, I just want to mention that there will be very few biblical references made in this message today but what I say as Moses is from the Bible.　 　　その前に、今日のメッセージの中で聖書の引用はほとんどありませんが、私がモーセとして語ることは、聖書に書かれていることだということを、お伝えしておきます。

So, please go back and read Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, on your own, to verify that what I said is biblical.　 ですから、出エジプト記、レビ記、民数記、申命記を読み返して、私が言ったことが聖書的であることを確認してみてください。

Now, I will get into character, and will speak as if I am Moses. それでは、私がモーセになったつもりで話をします。

Greetings, people in the Lord!  My name is Moses.　 主にある皆さん、こんにちは！ 私の名前はモーセです。

Today, I would like to share with you my testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.　 今日は、イエス・キリストに対する私の信仰の証しを分かち合いたいと思います。

As I share with you my testimony, you will notice that there are three main parts to my life story as it relates to my journey of faith with God.　 私の証しを分かち合う時、神様との私の信仰の旅に関連する物語には、３つの主要な部分があることにお気づきになると思います。

The first part has to do with my life before my encounter with God.　 最初は、神様と出会う前の私の人生です。

The second part has to do with my encounter with God and putting my faith in Him.　 　　第二は、神様との出会い、そして神様に信仰を置くことに関係しています。

And the third part has to do with my life lived with God; trusting and obeying Him.　　　 そして第三は、神様と共に生きた私の人生、すなわち神様を信頼し、神様に従うことに関係しています。

So, here is my testimony of faith in Jesus Christ.　 それではイエス・キリストを信じる私の証しをしましょう。

I was born into a family of slaves living in Egypt, a country not our own.　 私は自国ではないエジプトに住む奴隷の家庭に生まれました。

I am the youngest of three children born to my parents.  I have an older sister and brother.　 私は両親の間に生まれた３人の子供の末っ子です。 私には姉と兄がいます。

My ancestors were not always slaves.  In fact, my great grand uncle, Joseph, was once the vizier of Egypt,　 私の先祖は常に奴隷であったわけではありません。実際、大伯父のヨセフはかつてエジプトの宰相であり、

and with God’s guidance he was able to help many people to survive a severe famine.　 神様の導きによって、彼は多くの人々を助け、深刻な飢饉を乗り切ることができました。

My family of 70 direct descendants of my great-great grandfather Jacob, also known as Israel, came to Egypt, during that famine.　 私の曽祖父ヤコブ（イスラエルとしても知られています）の直系の子孫７０人からなる私の家族は、その飢饉の最中にエジプトにやってきました。

My great grandfather, Levi, was one of Joseph’s older brothers, and the third son of Israel, who had twelve sons.　 私の曽祖父レビはヨセフの兄の一人で、１２人の息子を持つイスラエルの三男でした。

However, after 300 years from the time of Joseph, the pharaohs (Egyptian kings) and the Egyptians had forgotten him and what he had done to save them.　 しかし、ヨセフの時代から３００年も経つと、パロ（エジプトの王）もエジプト人も、ヨセフのことも、ヨセフが自分たちを救うためにしてくれたことも忘れてしまいました。

By the time I was born, we had become a great big family of thousands of people, known as Hebrews, descendants of the twelve sons of Israel.　 私が生まれる頃には、私達はイスラエルの１２人の息子の子孫であるヘブル人と呼ばれる何千人もの人々からなる大家族になっていました。

Because we had become such a large family is the very reason why we were made slaves.　 そんな大家族になったからこそ、私達は奴隷にされたのです。

We as Hebrews became the slave labor for the pharaohs, building storage cities, such as Pithom and Raamses.　 私達ヘブライ人はパロの奴隷労働者となり、ピトムやラムセスなどの貯蔵都市を建設しました。

Yet, my family continued to grow strong in numbers, causing the Egyptians to fear us.　 それでも私の家族は数を増やし続け、エジプト人に恐れられました。

Thus, by the time I was born, the pharaoh gave a command that baby boys born to the Hebrews were to be killed.　 そのため、私が生まれる頃には、パロはヘブライ人との間に生まれた男の子を殺すように命じました。

My parents did not want to kill me but they couldn’t keep me and not be found out for hiding me,　 両親は私を殺したくはなかったのですが、私を隠していることがばれないようにすることはできず、

so they put me in a basket when I was 3 months old, and placed me in the Nile River.　 生後３ヶ月の私をかごに入れてナイル川に流しました。

By God’s grace, I was placed into the care of Pharaoh’s daughter, who found me in the basket.　 神の恵みによって、私はパロの娘に預けられました。

Thus, she named me Moses, because she drew me out of the water.　 彼女は私を水から引き上げたので、私をモーセと名づけました。

So, I did not grow up as a slave but actually as a prince in Pharaoh’s household.　 だから、私は奴隷としてではなく、パロの家の王子として成長したのです。

This allowed me to receive the best education, military training, and opportunities to develop leadership skills.　 そのおかげで私は最高の教育を受け、軍事訓練を受け、指導力を養う機会を得ることができました。

However, I never lost sight of my own people, and was fully aware of my Hebrew lineage.　 しかし、私は自分の民族を見失うことはなく、ヘブライ人の血筋であることを十分に自覚していました。

Therefore, when I had become quite old, about 40 years old to be exact, I decided to reach out to my own people.　そのため、かなり歳をとった時、正確には４０歳くらいになった時、私は自分の仲間に手を差し伸べることにしました。

However, that didn’t go at all the way I had hoped.　 しかし、それは私の期待通りにはまったくいかなかったのです。

I saw an Egyptian beating one of my people, a Hebrew man.　エジプト人が同胞の一人であるヘブライ人を殴っているのを見たのです。

I couldn’t bear to just see that and do nothing, so after making sure no one was watching me, I killed that Egyptian and hid him in the sand.　 それを見ていながら、何もしないのは忍びなかったので、誰にも見られていないことを確認してから、私はそのエジプト人を殺して砂の中に隠したのです。

The next day, I saw two of my Hebrew brethren fighting each other.　 そして、その翌日、私はヘブライ人の同胞が２人争っているのを見ました。

Again, I couldn’t bear to watch that, so I stepped in to stop them.　 私はそれを見ていられずに、彼らの仲裁に入りました。

But one of them said to me, “Who made you a prince or a judge over us? Are you intending to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” (Exodus 2:14) しかし、そのうちの一人が私に言いました、「だれがあなたを立てて、われわれのつかさ、また裁判人としたのですか。エジプトびとを殺したように、あなたはわたしを殺そうと思うのですか」。（出エジプト記２章１４節）

When I heard this, I got scared, and I ran away from Egypt, 私はこのことを聞いた時、恐ろしくなり、そのままエジプトから逃げました。

because I knew that if Pharaoh found out that I killed an Egyptian, he would kill me.　　　エジプト人を殺したことがパロに知れたら、彼に殺されることを知っていたからです。

I ended up in the land of Midian.　 そして、私はミデアンの地にたどり着いたのです。

There, I was taken in by the family of a man named Jethro, who was the priest of Midian, and who had seven daughters.　 そこで私は、ミデアンの祭司であり、７人の娘を持っていたエテロという祭司の家族に引き取られました。

In time, Jethro became my father-in-law, when I married his daughter Zipporah.　 やがてエテロは私の義父となり、私は彼の娘チッポラと結婚しました。

God gave two sons to us: Gershom and Eliezer.　 神様は私達に二人の息子をお与えになりました： ゲルショムとエリエゼルです。

I was hiding out in the wilderness far away from Egypt and my people the sons of Israel (Israelites).　 私はエジプトからも、私の同胞であるイスラエルの民からも遠く離れた荒野に隠れていました。

While the Israelites continued to labor as slaves in Egypt, I lived the life of a shepherd in the wilderness, away from trouble and human drama for 40 years.　 イスラエルの民がエジプトで奴隷として働き続けている間、私は４０年間、荒野で羊飼いの生活を送り、トラブルや人間ドラマから遠ざかっていたのです。

But one day that all changed.　 しかしある日、すべてが変わりました。

As I was leading my father-in-law’s flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God,　 私が義父の家畜の群れを率いて荒野の西側に向かい、神の山ホレブにさしかかった時でした、

the angel of the lord appeared to me in blazing fire from the midst of a bush.　 主の御使いが、柴の中から燃え盛る炎の中で私の前に現れたのです。

That bush was amazing, for it was burning with fire, yet it was not burning up.　 その柴は驚くべきもので、火で燃えていたにもかかわらず、燃え尽きることはなかったのです。

I had to go closer to look at it for it was so marvelous to see.　 あまりの素晴らしさに、私は近づいて見なければならなりませんでした。

But as I approached that burning bush, God called to me from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!”　 しかし、私がその燃える柴に近づくと、神様が柴の中から「モーセよ、モーセよ」と私を呼んだのです。

So, I responded, “Here I am.”　 そこで私は「ここにいます 」と答えました。

And then God said, “Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5) そして神様は言われました、「ここに近づいてはいけない。足からくつを脱ぎなさい。あなたが立っているその場所は聖なる地だからである」。（出エジプト記３章５節）

“I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” (Exodus 3:6)「わたしは、あなたの先祖の神、アブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神である」。（出エジプト記３章６節）

I then hid my face, for I was afraid to look at God.  I was awestruck.　私は自らの顔を隠しました。 神様を見るのが怖かったからです。 その時、私は畏怖を抱いたのです。

Then God said:　 そして神様はこう言われたのです：

Exodus 3:7-10（出エジプト記３章７節－１０節）

“I have surely seen the affliction of My people who are in Egypt, and have given heed to their cry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings. ⁸ So I have come down to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians, and to bring them up from that land to a good and spacious land, to a land flowing with milk and honey, to the place of the Canaanite and the Hittite and the Amorite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite. ⁹ Now, behold, the cry of the sons of Israel has come to Me; furthermore, I have seen the oppression with which the Egyptians are oppressing them. ¹⁰ Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.”「わたしは、エジプトにいるわたしの民の悩みを、つぶさに見、また追い使う者のゆえに彼らの叫ぶのを聞いた。わたしは彼らの苦しみを知っている。⁸わたしは下って、彼らをエジプトびとの手から救い出し、これをかの地から導き上って、良い広い地、乳と蜜の流れる地、すなわちカナンびと、ヘテびと、アモリびと、ペリジびと、ヒビびと、エブスびとのおる所に至らせようとしている。⁹いまイスラエルの人々の叫びがわたしに届いた。わたしはまたエジプトびとが彼らをしえたげる、そのしえたげを見た。¹⁰さあ、わたしは、あなたをパロにつかわして、わたしの民、イスラエルの人々をエジプトから導き出させよう」。

I was listening to what God was saying regarding the Israelites in Egypt, and I was glad to know that God called them “My people”　 私は、エジプトにいるイスラエルの民について神様が語っておられることを聞き、神様が彼らを「わたしの民 」と呼ばれることを知って喜び、

and that He had heard their cries for help and that He was going to deliver them from the power of the Egyptians.　さらに助けを求める彼らの叫びを聞き、エジプト人の力から救い出してくださろうとしていることを知ったのです。

I was happily listening until He said, 神様がこう言われるまで、私は喜んで耳を傾けていたのです、

“Therefore, come now, and I will send you to Pharaoh, so that you may bring My people, the sons of Israel, out of Egypt.” Exodus 3:10) 「さあ、わたしは、あなたをパロにつかわして、わたしの民、イスラエルの人々をエジプトから導き出させよう」。（出エジプト記３章１０節）

I had to protest, so I said to God, 私はこのことに抗議しなければならないので、神様に言いました。

“Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11) 「わたしは、いったい何者でしょう。わたしがパロのところへ行って、イスラエルの人々をエジプトから導き出すのでしょうか」。（出エジプト記３章１１節）

I truly wondered at that time, who I was that the God of my ancestors would come to me and speak to me and send me to bring His people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.　 その時、先祖の神が私のところに来て語りかけ、神の民であるイスラエルの民をエジプトから連れ出すために私を遣わすとは、私はいったい何者なのだろうと心から思ったのです。

But God said to me, しかし神様は言われました、

“Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you:「わたしは必ずあなたと共にいる。これが、わたしのあなたをつかわしたしるしである。

when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain.” (Exodus 3:12) あなたが民をエジプトから導き出したとき、あなたがたはこの山で神に仕えるであろう」。（出エジプト記３章１２節）

But I had a lot of questions about this mission that God had given to me, and I came up with various excuses why I was not the right person for the job.　 しかし私は、神様から与えられたこの使命について多くの疑問を抱き、自分がこの仕事に適任でない理由を色々と言い訳しました。

I asked God how I was to convince the Israelites that He had sent me to them.　 私は神様に、神様が私を遣わしたことをイスラエル人にどう納得させたらいいのかと尋ねたのです。

To this, God revealed Himself in a special way by stating that He was, このことに対して、神様は特別な方法で私に現れ、言いました。

“I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 「わたしは、有って有る者」。そして、また言われた、「イスラエルの人々にこう言いなさい、

‘I AM has sent me to you.’”『「わたしは有る」というかたが、わたしをあなたがたのところへ遣わされました』と」。

God gave me specific instructions on how to gather the elders of Israel together and to talk to them,　 神様は私に、イスラエルの長老たちを集めて彼らと話す方法と、

and to then go to Pharoah together with them to ask to be allowed to go a three days’ journey into the wilderness in order to sacrifice to God Almighty.　 全能の神に捧げる生贄を捧げるために、３日の道のりの荒野を行くことを許可してもらうために、彼らと一緒にパロのところへ行くようにと具体的に指示しました。

God even made it known that Pharaoh would not permit them to do so, and therefore God would stretch out His hand　神様はパロがそうすることを許可しないこと、

and strike Egypt with all kinds of miracles until the king would let them go.　 また王が彼らを解放するまで、神様は御手を差し伸べ、あらゆる奇跡をもってエジプトを打たれるとを伝えました。

I still was not convinced that I could carry on this mission that God had given to me, so I continued to give Him my objections and excuses for not being able to do the job.　 それでも私は、神様が私に与えてくださったこの使命を遂行できると確信できなかったので、その仕事ができないことへの反論や言い訳を神様に言い続けたのです。

Each time, God gave me more resources and miracles which He would perform through me in order to complete the mission.　 その度に神様はその使命を完遂するために、さらに多くのリソースと、私を通して成される奇跡を与えてくださいました。

Yet, in my final desperation, I blurted out to God, しかし、最後に自暴自棄になった私は、神様に向かってこう漏らしたのです、

“Please, Lord, now send the message by whomever You will.” (Exodus 4:13)「ああ、主よ、どうか、ほかの適当な人をおつかわしください」。（出エジプト記４章１３節）

Boy did that get God angry.  That definitely was not the right response to God.　 それは神様を怒らせました。それは間違いなく神への正しい対応ではなかったのです。

He finally said to me:　神様はついに私にこう言いました：

Exodus 4:14-17（出エジプト記４章１４節－１７節）

“Is there not your brother Aaron the Levite? I know that he speaks fluently. And moreover, behold, he is coming out to meet you; when he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. ¹⁵ You are to speak to him and put the words in his mouth; and I, even I, will be with your mouth and his mouth, and I will teach you what you are to do. ¹⁶ Moreover, he shall speak for you to the people; and he will be as a mouth for you and you will be as God to him. ¹⁷ You shall take in your hand this staff, with which you shall perform the signs.”「あなたの兄弟レビびとアロンがいるではないか。わたしは彼が言葉にすぐれているのを知っている。見よ、彼はあなたに会おうとして出てきている。彼はあなたを見て心に喜ぶであろう。¹⁵あなたは彼に語って言葉をその口に授けなさい。わたしはあなたの口と共にあり、彼の口と共にあって、あなたがたのなすべきことを教え、¹⁶彼はあなたに代って民に語るであろう。彼はあなたの口となり、あなたは彼のために、神に代るであろう。¹⁷あなたはそのつえを手に執り、それをもって、しるしを行いなさい」。

With those words from God, I went to Jethro my father-in-law to ask to be allowed to go to Egypt to see my family, the Israelites, and he let me go in peace.　 神様からのその言葉を胸に、私は義父エテロのところへ行き、私の家族であるイスラエルの民に会うためにエジプトに行くことを許してくれるように頼みました。

Just as God said, the king of Egypt would not let the Israelites go.　 神様の言葉通り、エジプトの王はイスラエル人を行かせませんでした。

It took ten miracles by God to make the Egyptian king to realize that the pagan idols he worshipped　エジプトの王が、自分が崇拝している異教の偶像は、唯一無二の存在である神に敵わないことを悟るには、神様による１０の奇跡が必要だったのです。

were no match for the one and only true God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.　 その偶像は唯一にして真の神、アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神には敵わないのです。

After the last miracle that God performed in which the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast were struck down, did the Egyptian king let the Israelites go out of Egypt.　 エジプト王がイスラエルの民をエジプトから脱出させたのは、神様が行った最後の奇跡の後でした。

Even in this act of God, we all saw God’s judgment and mercy.　この神様の行為においても、私達は皆、神様の裁きと憐れみを見ました。

For all the Israelites and the few Egyptians who feared God and followed His commandments were spared from losing their firstborn.　 神様を畏れ、神様の戒めに従った全てのイスラエル人と数少ないエジプト人は皆、初子を失うことを免れたからです。

This miraculous work of God was to be remembered through what my people the Israelites still celebrate till now in what is called the Passover.　 この神様の奇跡的な御業は、わが民イスラエル人が今日まで祝っている過越の祭りと呼ばれるものによって、記憶されることになったのです。

Thus, after these things, I led the Israelites out of Egypt.　 こうして、私はイスラエルの民をエジプトから導き出したのです。

Our destination was to be the land that God had promised to our ancestor, Abraham, called the Promised Land,　 私達の目的地は、神様が先祖アブラハムに約束した約束の地であった、

which was in the land of Canaan, known as the land of milk and honey.　 乳と蜜の国として知られるカナンの地でした。

Right away our faith in God was challenged as we were chased by the Egyptian army and we were pinned in by the Red Sea that was in front of us.　 私達がエジプト軍に追われ、目の前の紅海に釘付けにされた時、すぐに私達の神様への信仰が問われました。

But God rescued us by parting the Red Sea, so that we could walk across to the other side on dry land.　 しかし、神様は紅海を割って私達を助け、私達は乾いた陸地を歩いて向こう岸に渡ることができました。

Then, we watched as God wiped out the Egyptian army by returning the sea waters to its rightful place.　 そして、神様が海の水を元ある場所に戻すことにより、エジプト軍を一掃されるのを見ました。

Sadly, in spite of seeing all of these wonderful miracles of God, due to our lack of faith and disobedience toward God,　悲しいことに、このような素晴らしい神様の奇跡を目の当たりにしたにもかかわらず、私達の信仰心の欠如と神様への不従順が原因となってしまった、

my generation, those 20 years old and older, which included me, were not allowed to enter that Promised Land.　 私を含む２０歳以上の世代は、約束の地に入ることを許されなかったのです。

Thus, we wandered in the wilderness for 40 years.　 こうして私達は４０年間、荒野をさまよいました。

Yet, even throughout all this, God did not abandon us.　 しかし、そのような中でも、神様は私達を見捨てられませんでした。

He provided food for us in the form of manna, which was like coriander seed, white, and its taste was like wafers with honey.　 神様はコリアンダーの実のようで白く、味は蜜入りのウエハースのようなマナを私達に与えてくださいました。

God provided this for us six days a week except on the Sabbath (a day of rest), and He did so for 40 years until we entered the Promised Land.　 神様は、安息日（休息日）を除く週６日、私達にこれを与え、私達が約束の地に入るまでの４０年もの間、そうしてくださったのです。

He also provided quail as meat for us to eat, besides the livestock that we cared for throughout our time in the wilderness.　 神様はまた、私達が荒野で世話した家畜の他に、私達が食べる肉としてウズラを与えてくださいました。

He also provided us with water . . . in the wilderness!　 主はまた、荒野で私達に水を……与えてくださいました！

He also gave us rules, 613 commandments to be exact, by which we might live as His people.　 神様はまた、私達が神の民として生きるためのルール、正確には６１３の戒めを与えてくださいました。

Most importantly, God remained with us throughout those 40 years in the wilderness, making His presence known to us through a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night.　 最も重要なことは、神様は荒野での４０年間を通して私達と共にいてくださり、昼は雲の柱、夜は火の柱を通して神の存在を私達に知らせてくださったことです。

These visible manifestations of God’s presence with us were important for our protection from others and for our own faith and morale.　 神様が私達と共におられることを目に見える形で示すことは、私達を他者から守り、私達自身の信仰と士気を高めるために重要だったのです。

As I indicated, I myself was not allowed to lead the Israelites into the Promised Land.　 先に述べたように、私自身はイスラエルの民を約束の地に導くことは許されませんでした。

This is because on one occasion, I failed to honor God and obey His command in which I was to speak to the rock from which God would bring forth water.　 というのも、ある時、私は神様を敬わず、神様が水をもたらす岩に語りかけよという神様の命令に従わなかったからです。

Instead, I blurted out, “Listen now, you rebels; その代わりに私は思わず「そむく人たちよ、聞きなさい。

shall we bring forth water for you out of this rock?”, and in anger I struck the rock twice (Numbers 20:10-11).われわれがあなたがたのために、この岩から水を出さなければならないのであろうか」。（民数記２０章１０節－１１節）と言い、怒りに任せて岩を二度、叩いたのです。

I can truly say that leading the Israelites was not an easy task.  Sometimes they got me really angry.　 正直に申し上げますが、イスラエルの民を率いるのは簡単なことではありませんでした。 時に、それは本当に私を怒らせました。

It taught me how God felt about me and my people when we refused to trust Him and obey Him.　私達が神様を信頼し、神様に従うことを拒んだ時、神様が私や私の民をどのように思っておられたか、教えられました。

Some people may think it was cruel of God to not allow me to enter the Promised Land with my people after all those years of being with them and leading them.　 何年も民と共にあり、民を導いてきたのに、私が民と共に約束の地に入ることを許されなかったのは、神様の残酷な行為だと思う人がいるかもしれません。

However, God was merciful and gracious toward me throughout my lifetime, and He was kind to me even in my death.　 しかし、神様は私の生涯を通してあわれみ深く、恵み深い方でありました。

As God prepared me for my death, I went up to the top of Pisgah, that is Mount Nebo.　 神様が私に死をもたらされた時、私はピスガの頂、すなわちネボ山に登りました。

From there God showed me the Promised Land, and reminded me of His promise to give that land to the Israelites.　 そこから神様は約束の地を私に示し、その地をイスラエルの民に与えるという神様の約束を私に思い出させました。

And then, I died in the land of Moab, and God provided for my burial, and therefore only God knows where I was buried.　 そして、私はモアブの地で死にました。神様が私の埋葬を備えてくださったので、私がどこに埋葬されたかは神だけが知っています。

So, as I look back on my life, I am glad to know that I did not die being known as:　 だから、自分の人生を振り返る時、私はこう呼ばれて死ななかったことを嬉しく思うのです：

A prince of Egypt, or a murderer of an Egyptian, or a shepherd in the wilderness.　 エジプトの王子、エジプト人殺し、荒野の羊飼い。

Nor as a spokesman for a nation, or miracle worker, or as a prophet.　 国民の代弁者と、奇跡を起こす者、預言者。

Not even as a man who saw a glimpse of God’s glory, or one who never entered the Promised Land.　 神の栄光を垣間見た者、また約束の地に入らなかった者。

I am simply known in my death as “Moses the servant of the Lord” (Deuteronomy 34:5).　私はその死によってただ「主の僕モーセ」として知られています。（申命記３４章５節）

However, I am not talking to you as a dead man this morning.　 しかし、私は今朝、死人としてあなたに話しているのではありません。

For in God’s great mercy and grace, I was allowed to stand in the Promised Land, in what is now called Israel, with God’s Son Jesus Christ.　 神様の大いなるあわれみと恵みによって、私は神の御子イエス・キリストと共に今日、イスラエルと呼ばれている約束の土地に立つことを許されたのですから。

The occasion is referred to as “Jesus’ Transfiguration” and recorded in the New Testament in Matthew 17, Mark 9, and Luke 9.　 この出来事は「イエスの変容」と呼ばれ、新約聖書のマタイによる福音書１７章、マルコによる福音書９章、ルカによる福音書９章に記録されています。

On that particular occasion, Elijah and I were privileged to meet Jesus before He went to the cross to die for all of our sins,　 その特別な機会に、エリヤと私は、イエス様が私達の罪のために十字架にかかって死なれる前に、イエス様に会う機会に恵まれ、

and we were speaking to Him about His “exodus” in which He would accomplish our deliverance in Jerusalem.　 そして私達は、イエス様がエルサレムで私達の解放を成し遂げる「出エジプト」について、イエスと話していたのです。

All of this of course speaks to the certainty of the resurrection of the dead that the Bible teaches.　 もちろん、これらすべては、聖書が教える死者の復活の確かさを物語っています。

For as Jesus said, God is not the God of the dead but of the living.　 イエス様が言われたように、神様は死者の神ではなく、生きている者の神なのですから。

Well, I am here to tell you that that moment with Jesus was greater than all that God had allowed me to do during the 120 years of my life here on this earth.　 さて、私はここで、イエス様とのその瞬間は、この地上での１２０年の人生の間に神様が私に許された全てのことよりも大いなることだったとお伝えしたいのです。

For all that I did was done in order to point people to Jesus Christ.　 私がしたことは全て、人々にイエス・キリストを指し示すためになされたのですから。

I am truly honored to be mentioned by Jesus and in the Bible in the following manner.　 イエス様によって、また聖書において、次のように言及されたことを心から光栄に思います。

As the author of the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, I am blessed to know the following two things.　 聖書の最初の５書：創世記、出エジプト記、レビ記、民数記、申命記の著者として、私は次の2つのことを知ることができて幸いです。

Jesus said to the Jews, the very descendants of the people that I led out of Egypt, who lived in Israel during His time here on earth:　 イエス様は、まさに私がエジプトから導き出した民の子孫であり、イエス様がこの地上におられた時代にイスラエルに住んでいたユダヤ人たちに向かって言われました：

John 5:45-47（ヨハネの福音書５章４５節－４７節）

⁴⁵ “Do not think that I will accuse you before the Father; the one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have set your hope. ⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me, for he wrote about Me. ⁴⁷ But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” ⁴⁵「わたしがあなたがたのことを父に訴えると、考えてはいけない。あなたがたを訴える者は、あなたがたが頼みとしているモーセその人である。 ⁴⁶もし、あなたがたがモーセを信じたならば、わたしをも信じたであろう。モーセは、わたしについて書いたのである。⁴⁷しかし、モーセの書いたものを信じないならば、どうしてわたしの言葉を信じるだろうか」。

I didn’t even know about it at the time, but all I had written were to point people to Jesus Christ.　 当時、私はそのことを知りもしませんでしたが、私が書いたものは全て、人々にイエス・キリストを指し示すためのものだったのです。

John in the Gospel (Good News) that he wrote concerning Jesus Christ put it this way:　 ヨハネはイエス・キリストについて書いた福音書（グッド・ニュース）の中で、こう述べています：

John 1:14, 17（ヨハネの福音書１章１４節、１７節）

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. ¹⁷ For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. ¹⁴そして言は肉体となり、わたしたちのうちに宿った。わたしたちはその栄光を見た。それは父のひとり子としての栄光であって、めぐみとまこととに満ちていた。¹⁷律法はモーセをとおして与えられ、めぐみとまこととは、イエス・キリストをとおしてきたのである。

And, I am here to tell you that it is God’s grace and truth through Jesus Christ that has saved me as well.　 そして、イエス・キリストを通した神の恵みと真理が私をも救ってくださったのだと、ここにお伝えしたいのです。

For you see, God allowed me to lead the Hebrews out of slavery from Egypt, というのも、神は私にヘブライ人をエジプトからの奴隷から導き出すことを許されましたが、

but Jesus Christ leads all of us who believe and follow Him out of slavery from sin and death.　イエス・キリストは、信じ従う私達の全てを、罪と死の奴隷から導き出されるからです。

For God who is both just and loving has made it clear to us in His word:　 公正で愛に満ちた神は、御言葉の中で、このことを私達に明らかにしておられるからです：

Romans 6:23（ローマ人への手紙６章２３節）

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. 罪の支払う報酬は死である。しかし神の賜物は、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにおける永遠のいのちである。

None of us merit God’s grace and eternal life.　 私達は誰ひとりとして、神の恵みと永遠の命に値する者はいません。

However, God offers us abundant and eternal life through Jesus Christ.　 しかし、神様はイエス・キリストを通して私達に豊かな永遠の命を与えてくださるのです。

Through faith in Jesus Christ as God’s Son who as our Savior has died for our sins and rose from the dead, 救い主として私達の罪のために死なれ、死からよみがえられた神の御子イエス・キリストを

we are set free from the bondage to sin and evil and death.　信じることによって、私達は罪と悪と死への束縛から解放されるのです。

And this is the testimony of God’s grace for everyone who has encountered Jesus, and has placed their faith in Him and who now walks in trust and obedience to Him.　 そしてこれが、イエス様と出会い、イエス様に信仰を置き、今やイエス様への信頼と従順のうちに歩む全ての人に対する神の恵みの証しなのです。

We all have a testimony of God’s truth and grace to share with others.　 私達は皆、神の真理と恵みの証しを持っています。

Your story may not be written in the Bible as mine was, but your story is part of God’s story, HIStory,　 あなたの物語は私のように聖書に書かれていないかもしれませんが、あなたの物語は神の物語、HIStoryの一部なのです、

and it is to be shared with others, so that they too may come to know Jesus and then to make Him known to others.　 そして、それは他の人々と分かち合うべきものであり、そうすることで彼らもイエス様を知るようになり、そしてイエス様を他の人々に知らせるようになるのです。

That is the calling that all of us have as those who have encountered God (Jesus), and who now live for Him.　 それが、神（イエス）と出会い、神のために生きる私達、全ての使命なのです。
