Jesus’ Resurrection: We Can Live with God Forever
イエス様の復活：私たちは神様と共に永遠に生きることができる。

Good morning and Happy Easter! おはようございます。イースターおめでとうございます！
Please repeat what I am about to say. これから私が言うことを繰り返してください。
“We were created by God to live with Him forever.” 「私たちは、神様と共に永遠に生きるために、神様によって創造されたのです。」
Now, let’s think about this for a minute. さて、少しこのことを考えてみましょう。
We were created by God. 私たちは神様によって創造されました。
The Bible tells us this at the very beginning. 聖書は、その冒頭でこう語っています。
Genesis 1:27（創世記１章２７節）
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 神は自分のかたちに人を創造された。すなわち、神のかたちに創造し、男と女とに創造された。
This means that all of us bear the image of God. つまり、私たち一人ひとりが神の御姿に似せて造られているということです。
We are not talking about physical looks here, but rather our make up as a person. ここで言っているのは外見のことではなく、人間としての在り方のことです。
We have emotions and a conscience, love and care for things, can create things, and seek meaningful relationships. 私たちには感情や良心があり、物事への愛情や思いやりを持ち、何かを生み出すことができ、意味のある人間関係を求めます。
Also, we were created to live with God forever. また、私たちは神様と共に永遠に生きるために造られたのです。
The Bible also tells us this throughout its pages. 聖書もまた、その至る所でこのことを教えています。
However, the Bible also tells us that we are all sinners. しかし、聖書はまた、私たち全員が罪人であると教えています。
In prophesying the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ, God spoke the following through Isaiah the prophet, nearly 700 years beforehand. イエス・キリストの犠牲的な死を預言するにあたり、神様は、その約700年前に預言者イザヤを通して次のように語られました。
Isaiah 53:6（イザヤ書５３章６節）
All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; われわれはみな羊のように迷って、おのおの自分の道に向かって行った。
but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. 主はわれわれすべての者の不義を、彼の上におかれた。
Here, we are all likened to sheep that have gone astray from the Shepherd. ここでは、私たちは皆、羊飼いの元から迷い出た羊に例えられています。
Sin is described as turning to our own way, that is away from God. 罪とは、自分の道、すなわち神様から離れる道へと向かうことだと説明されています。
And it is precisely for our sins that Jesus took our sins (iniquity) upon Himself as He went to the cross. そして、まさに私たちの罪のために、イエス様は十字架へと向かう際、私たちの罪（不義）を自ら負われたのです。
The apostle Paul wrote this concerning the fact that we are all sinners: 使徒パウロは、私たち全員が罪人であるという事実について、次のように記しています：
Romans 3:23（ローマ人への手紙３章２３節）
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, すなわち、すべての人は罪を犯したため、神の栄光を受けられなくなっており、
Here again, it is clearly stated that all of us have sinned. ここでもまた、私たち全員が罪を犯したことがはっきりと述べられています。
And our sinfulness is described as falling short of the glory of God. そして、私たちの罪深さは、神の栄光に及ばないこととして描かれています。
In other words, none of us measure up to God’s standard of holiness. つまり、私たちには誰一人として、神様の聖さの基準を満たす者はいないのです。
Furthermore, Paul explained the continual effect of sin in our lives in contrast to what Jesus Christ has done for us. さらに、パウロは、イエス・キリストが私たちのために成し遂げてくださったこととは対照的に、私たちの生活において罪が絶えず及ぼす影響について説明しました。
1 Corinthians 15:22（コリント人への第一の手紙１５章２２節）
For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive. アダムにあってすべての人が死んでいるのと同じように、キリストにあってすべての人が生かされるのである。
Yes, the first two people created by God, Adam and Eve, sinned. そうです、神様によって最初に創造されたアダムとエバの二人は罪を犯しました。
And because we are all descendants of Adam and Eve, we have inherited sin as well. そして、私たちは皆、アダムとエバの子孫であるため、罪も受け継いでいるのです。
It is sadly in our DNA, and thus we are born as sinners. 悲しいことに、それは私たちのDNAに刻み込まれているため、私たちは罪人としてこの世に生まれるのです。
Thus, though we were created by God to live with Him forever, in our sinful state we cannot. したがって、私たちは神様によって、神様と共に永遠に生きるために創造されたにもかかわらず、罪深い状態にある私たちには、それはできません。
And that is why God’s Son, Jesus Christ, was sent to save us. だからこそ、神の子イエス・キリストは、私たちを救うために遣わされたのです。
What did Jesus come to save us from? イエス様は、私たちを何から救うために来られたのでしょうか？
He came to save us from being separated from God forever. 彼は、私たちが神様から永遠に離れてしまうことから救うために来られたのです。
He came to save us from the consequences of our sin which is death. 彼は、私たちの罪の結果である死から私たちを救うために来られたのです。
Paul explains it this way to us: パウロは次のように説明しています：
Romans 6:23（ローマ人への手紙６章２３節）
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. 罪の支払う報酬は死である。しかし神の賜物は、わたしたちの主キリスト・イエスにおける永遠のいのちである。
Because we are sinners, we are spiritually dead, that is separated from God, at birth. 私たちは罪人であるため、生まれながらにして霊的に死んでおり、つまり神様から切り離されているのです。
However, what has been freely offered to us by God is eternal life in His Son, Jesus Christ. しかし、神様が私たちに惜しみなく与えてくださったのは、御子イエス・キリストにある永遠のいのちです。
In other words, through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we can live with God forever. つまり、イエス様の死と復活によって、私たちは神と共に永遠に生きることができるのです。
However, we need to accept this offer of salvation by believing in Jesus. しかし、私たちはイエス様を信じることで、この救いの御業を受け入れなければなりません。
The cross upon which Jesus sacrificed Himself and shed His blood was necessary for our sins to be forgiven and for us to be made right before God. イエス様がご自身を犠牲にし、血を流された十字架は、私たちの罪が赦され、神様の御前で義と認められるために不可欠なものでした。
To be made right before God means we can enjoy a relationship with Him and be with Him forever. 神様の御前で義と認められるということは、神様との交わりを楽しみ、永遠に神様と共にいられることを意味します。
However, there are two important events that were necessary that support Jesus’ sacrificial death upon the cross. しかし、イエス様が十字架上で犠牲的な死を遂げるために必要だった、二つの重要な出来事があります。
They are Jesus’ birth and His resurrection. それは、イエス様のご降誕と復活です。
Of course, without Jesus coming as a human being, He could not have died. もちろん、イエス様が人間としてこの世に来られなければ、死ぬことはできなかったのです。
And if Jesus did not rise from the dead, we would not be here this morning. もしイエスが死からよみがえらなかったなら、私たちは今朝ここにいることはないでしょう。
However, both Jesus’ birth and His resurrection are the very two things that we celebrate most as Christians. しかし、イエスのご降誕と復活こそが、私たちクリスチャンが最も祝う二つの出来事なのです。
Yes, we celebrate Christmas and Easter. そうです、私たちはクリスマスとイースター（復活祭）を祝います。
And both have many similarities and are truly tied to one another. そして、両方には多くの共通点があり、互いに深く結びついているのです。
Christmas: We celebrate Jesus’ birth. クリスマス：私たちはイエスの誕生を祝います。
Easter: We celebrate Jesus’ resurrection. イースター：私たちはイエス様の復活を祝います。
On that first Christmas, angels were present to declare Jesus’ birth. あの最初のクリスマスには、イエス様の誕生を告げる天使たちが現れました。
On that first Easter, angels were present to declare Jesus’ resurrection. あの最初の復活祭の日、天使たちが現れて、イエス様の復活を告げ知らせました。
On that first Christmas, Jesus’ birth was first announced to humble shepherds. あの最初のクリスマス、イエス様の誕生はまず、謙虚な羊飼いたちに告げられました。
Luke 2:10-12（ルカの福音書２章１０～１２節）
“Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; 「恐れるな。見よ、すべての民に与えられる大きな喜びを、あなたがたに伝える。
for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. きょうダビデの町に、あなたがたのために救主がお生れになった。このかたこそ主なるキリストである。
This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” あなたがたは、幼な子が布にくるまって飼葉おけの中に寝かしてあるのを見るであろう。それが、あなたがたに与えられるしるしである」。
On that first Easter, Jesus’ resurrection was first announced to humble women. あの最初の復活祭の日、イエス様の復活はまず、謙虚な女性たちに告げられました。
Luke 24:5-7（ルカの福音書２４章５～７節）
“Why do you seek the living One among the dead? 「あなたがたは、なぜ生きた方を死人の中にたずねているのか。
He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee, そのかたは、ここにはおられない。よみがえられたのだ。まだガリラヤにおられたとき、あなたがたにお話しになったことを思い出しなさい。
saying that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” すなわち、人の子は必ず罪人らの手に渡され、十字架につけられ、そして三日目によみがえる、と仰せられたではないか」。
On that first Christmas, the birth of Jesus took place in a cave where animals were kept. あの最初のクリスマス、イエス様の誕生は、家畜が飼われていた洞窟で起こりました。
On that first Easter, the resurrection of Jesus took place in a tomb cave. あの最初の復活祭の日、イエス様の復活は墓の洞窟で起こりました。
On that first Christmas, the cave was filled with God’s glory through the baby Jesus. あの最初のクリスマス、幼子イエスを通して、洞窟は神の栄光に満ち溢れました。
On that first Easter, the empty cave showed forth God’s glory because Jesus’ body no longer laid there. あの最初の復活祭の日、イエス様の遺体がもはやそこに横たわっていなかったため、空の洞窟は神の栄光を現しました。
Without Christmas, there would be no Easter. クリスマスがなければ、イースターも存在しません。
Without Easter, Christmas would have no meaning. イースターがなければ、クリスマスには何の意味も持たないでしょう。
In the 18th century, the U. S. Congress once issued a special edition of Thomas Jefferson’s Bible. 18世紀、米国議会はかつてトーマス・ジェファーソンの聖書の特別版を発行したことがあります。
It was a simple copy of our Bible with all references to the supernatural eliminated. それは、超自然的な要素に関する記述をすべて削除した、私たちの聖書の単純な写本でした。
Jefferson, in selecting, had confined himself solely to the moral teachings of Jesus. ジェファーソンは、その選定にあたって、もっぱらイエス様の道徳的教えに限定したのです。
The closing words of his Bible are: “There laid they Jesus and rolled a great stone at the mouth of the sepulchre and departed.” 彼の聖書の最後の言葉はこうであります：「そこで彼らはイエス様を葬り、墓の入り口に大きな石を転がして、立ち去った」
We cannot pick and choose what we are going to believe in the Bible. 聖書の中で、何を信じるかを選り好みすることはできません。
Thank God, that the actual Bible does not end with just Jesus’ death and burial! 神様に感謝します。実際の聖書は、イエス様の死と埋葬だけで終わっていないのですから！
Jesus’ resurrection is clearly attested to by angels and the resurrected Jesus was witnessed by more than five hundred people at one time! イエス様の復活は、天使たちによって明確に証しされ、一度に五百人以上の人々が復活されたイエス様の目撃者となりました！
And not only was the resurrected Lord Jesus seen by His close followers, but also by His skeptical half-brother James and by Paul a persecutor of the early followers of Jesus. 復活された主イエスは、親しい弟子たちだけでなく、懐疑的だった異母兄弟のヤコブや、かつてイエス様の初期の信者たちを迫害していたパウロにも現れたのです。
All these witnesses of the resurrected Lord Jesus boldly proclaimed His resurrection and suffered and gave their lives in doing so. 復活された主イエスのこれらの証人たちは皆、その復活を大胆に宣べ伝え、そのために苦難に遭い、命を捧げたのです。
Jesus came as an infant; God taking on human flesh. イエス様は赤ん坊としてこの世に来られました。神が人の姿をとられたのです。
His birth is what we celebrate on Christmas! クリスマスに私たちが祝うのは、彼の誕生なのです！
Jesus died on a cross, was buried in a tomb, and rose on the third day. イエス様は十字架で死に、墓に葬られ、三日目に復活されたのです。
His resurrection is what we celebrate on Easter! イースターで私たちが祝うのは、彼の復活なのです！
And because of His resurrection, we can declare boldly: そして、主の復活のゆえに、私たちは大胆にこう宣言することができるのです：
“We were created by God to live with Him forever.” 「私たちは、神様と共に永遠に生きるために、神様によって創造されたのです。」
The apostle John made it clear that by believing in Jesus, the Son of God, we are given eternal life. 使徒ヨハネは、神の御子イエスを信じることで、私たちに永遠の命が与えられることを明らかにしました。
John 3:16（ヨハネの福音書３章１６節）
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” 「神はそのひとり子を賜わったほどに、この世を愛して下さった。それは御子を信じる者がひとりも滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである」。
1 John 5:11-12（ヨハネの第一の手紙５章１１～１２節）
And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. そのあかしとは、神が永遠のいのちをわたしたちに賜わり、かつ、そのいのちが御子のうちにあるということである。
He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 御子を持つ者はいのちを持ち、神の御子を持たない者はいのちを持っていない。
And of course, believing Jesus Christ, means that we believe in His birth, そしてもちろん、イエス・キリストを信じるということは、彼の誕生を信じ、
we believe that He lived a sinless life, we believe that He died on the cross for our sins, 彼が罪のない生涯を送られたことを信じ、私たちの罪のために十字架で死なれたことを信じ、
and we believe that He rose on the third day. そして、三日目に復活されたことを信じることを意味します。
Because of Jesus’ resurrection, we can live with the assurance of a life lived together with God forever who truly loves us. イエス様の復活のゆえに、私たちは、私たちを心から愛してくださっている神様と共に、永遠に生きるという確信を持って生きることができます。
We can live with hope and joy and peace in living our life now on this earth because our eternity is secure. 私たちの永遠の命は確かなものですから、今この地上で生きる中で、希望と喜びと平安を持って生きることができるのです。
We have faith in and serve a Living Savior! 私たちは生ける救い主を信じ、そして使えます！
Thus, we can proclaim with certainty, “Yes!” to Jesus’ following declaration and question found in John 11:25-26: したがって、私たちはヨハネの福音書11章25～26節にある次のイエス様の宣言と問いに対して、確信を持って「はい！」と答えることができるのです。
“I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”「わたしはよみがえりであり、命である。わたしを信じる者は、たとい死んでも生きる。また、生きていて、わたしを信じる者は、いつまでも死なない。あなたはこれを信じるか」。
And now because of Jesus’ resurrection, we can live in that power. そして今、イエス様の復活のゆえに、私たちはその力に支えられて生きることができるのです。
Romans 1:4（ローマ人への手紙１章４節）
who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, 聖なる霊によれば、死人からの復活により、御力をもって神の御子と定められた。これがわたしたちの主イエス・キリストである。
For me, without Jesus’ resurrection, I could not live another day! 私にとって、イエス様の復活がなければ、もう一日たりとも生きられません！
I have officiated or attended more than 100 funeral services in my lifetime. 私はこれまで、100回以上の葬儀を執り行ったり、参列したりしてきました。
Dealing with death is hard, and it would be overwhelming if it were not for the hope that we have in Christ Jesus! 死と向き合うことは辛いものです。もしキリスト・イエスにある希望がなければ、その重荷に押しつぶされてしまうことでしょう！
The empty tomb means Jesus is alive! 空の墓は、イエス様が生きていることを意味しています！
Jesus’ resurrection means we have hope beyond the grave! イエス様の復活は、私たちに死を超えた希望を与えてくれるのです！
It also means that we can live together with God forever! それはまた、私たちが神と共に永遠に生きることができるということでもあります！
This is what we believe, and this is what we celebrate, today, and forever with God! これが私たちの信じることであり、今日、そして永遠に、神と共に祝うことです！
Let us pray. お祈りしましょう。
