まだ取るべき地がある
２０１３年９月１５日
ヨシュア記１３章１節にはこんなみ言葉が書かれています「さてヨシュアは年が進んで老いたが、主は彼に言われた「あなたは年が進んで老いたが、取るべき地はなお多く残っている。その残っている地は次のとおりである」。
数年前に高校時代の友人と実に２０年ぶりに会うことがありました。彼らの姿を見た時、まさしく自分の前に立っている友の姿はおじさんでした。しばし、私達は語らいました。そのような時に必ず出てくる言葉は「俺たちも年とったな」という言葉です。この言葉はどこから来るかと言うと、年をとった互いを見て言っている言葉なのです。その時、私達は自分の姿かたちを鏡で見ているのではなくて、互いの姿かたちを見ながら言うのです。
この言葉には特別な意味がありまして、それは全ての人に向けて言うことができる言葉ではないのです。それは限られた者達の間だけで言うことができる言葉なのです。私が今日、スターバックスで隣り合わせた方に向かっていうことはできませんし、自分の子供にも、また自分の恩師に向かって言うこともできない言葉なのです。しかし、それが高校の同級生であるのなら言えるのです。すなわち、この言葉を互いに言い合うことができる間柄とは人生のどこかで少なくとも共に同じ目線で生きることが許された者であり、その年齢が互いに近い親しい者達の間だけで言いうる言葉なのです。
神様はここでヨシュアに「あなたは年が進んで老いたが」と言っています。そうです、その時、彼は敬老会の招待状を受け取るような年齢になっていました。この一言の言葉に神様のヨシュアに対する温かいまなざしを感じます。まさしく、それは神様がヨシュアのこれまでの人生に同伴し、その辛苦全てを知っておられるからです。このお方が私達にも語りかけるのです。「あなたも年を取りましたね」。

これは年齢を考えたら意表をつく言葉です。学校を卒業したばかりの若い人に対して「これからやることがいっぱいあるね」と言うのなら分かりますが、年を取りましたねと言った後に「取るべき地はなお多く残っている」と神様は言われるのですから。
神様は「取るべき地はなお多く残っている」と言われ、その言葉に続いて「その残っている地は次のとおりである』と言われ、それ以降、具体的にヨシュアが取るべき地というものが神様によって示されました。すなわち、その残っている地は『ペリシテびとの全地域、ゲシュルびとの全土、エジプトの東のシホルから北にのびて、カナンびとに属するといわれるエクロンの境までの地、ペリシテびとの五人の君たちの地、すなわち、ガザ、アシドド、アシケロン、ガテ、およびエクロン・・・』（ヨシュア１３：２－３）。
以降、ヨシュア記は残る１１章、その最後までヨシュアが取るべき地の名前を挙げています。その地名を数えようと思ったのですが、３０まで数えてやめました。多すぎるからです。
詳しくはここでお話しませんが、そのヨシュアに課せられた取るべき地の広大さに驚きます。神様は具体的に何々民族の所有する何々という土地を取りなさいとヨシュアに語っているのです。同じように、神様は皆さんにも具体的に何かを語っていると思います。皆さんにしかできないこと、神様のためにそのことをなしていく生涯、こんなに幸いな人生はないと思います。
私達の教会にはギルマー花栄さんがいます。現在、スプリングバレーのグループホームに暮らしています。今はお一人で生活をすることも難しく、なかなかお体も自由がききません。その花栄さんをお尋ねしますと必ず言う言葉があります「先生、イエス様ってすごいね～、こんな私のような者を救ってくださったんだものね～」。花栄さんを訪ねたことがある人なら耳覚えのある言葉かと思います。
皆さん、私は花栄さんが言われたことを伝えることに人生をかけている牧師です。そのことをどう伝えるかといつも考えている者です。そんな者がこの花栄さんの言葉に励まされ、勇気づけられ、こうして今日も講壇に立たせていただいているのです。
確かに肉体はかつてのような強さはないけれど今年８８歳になる花栄さんがこの言葉を本当に嬉しそうに言われるのですから、この言葉には力があります。花栄さんはお気づきではないでしょうが、どれだけこの言葉が私達を励ましていることでしょうか。そして、励まされた者達が今度は誰かを励ますことができるのです。花栄さんの言葉は私達に留まるのではなく、その地境は無限に広がるのです。彼女は取るべき地を彼女の方法で取り続けているのです。
食べ物には「賞味期限」というのがあって、食品のパッケージには「何年何月何日までにお召し上がりください」と書いてあります。ある人がそのことから、「私もそろそろ賞味期限が近づいてきました」と言っているのを聞きました。とてもユーモアにあふれた表現だと思いますが、実際には、神が私たちをお造りくださった時、「賞味期限」をおつけにはなりませんでした。
食品は、賞味期限が過ぎると処分されてしまのでしょうが、私たちの人生は生けるかぎり、主を賛美し、命のあるかぎり、私達の神にほめ歌を歌うのです。確かに私達にもその最後の日は来ます。神様が私達の名を呼ぶその日です。しかし、その日まで私達が取るべき地はあるのです。
やがて私達の体は動かなくなるかもしれない。話すこともできなくなるかもしれない。最後に神様は一番、力ある役目を残します。パウロはその力についてこう書きました。わたしたちの戦いの武器は、肉のものではなく、神のためには要塞をも破壊するほどの力あるものである （２コリント１０章４節）。
この力はどこにあるのか。私達の祈りにあります。私達はその最後の日、最も力あるものとされるのです。
主にある皆さん、神様は私達ひとりひとりに語りかけます。「あなたは年をとりましたね」。主はこれまでの私達の人生をよくよく承知しておられますゆえに、この言葉をかけることができるのです。主は私達が年をとったことをよくご存知です。そして、言われます。しかし、あなたにはまだ取るべき地がありますよと。それは各々異なります。しかし、主は確かにそう私達に語りかけます。あなたに託されている使命は何でしょうか。
天のお父様、今年も敬老の日を迎えるにあたり、私達の教会でこの日を覚え、あなたの御言葉に心の目を向けることができましたことを心より感謝します。あなたは私達が歩んできました人生の長さを知り、その中で起きた全てのことを承知していてくださるお方でありますことを心より感謝します。そして、何よりも今も私達に私達が取るべき地について囁いていてくださることを感謝します。どうか、そのあなたの御声に私達の心を開かせてください。そのことができないという理由を探す者ではなく、それがどんなに小さなことであっても信仰をもって歩みだし、あなたの栄光のためにその取るべき地を勝ち取ることができますように。主イエス・キリストの御名によって祈ります。
You still have land you should conquer.

In Joshua 13:1, When Joshua became old, the Lord said to him, “You are now very old, and there are still very large areas of land to be taken over”.
I met my high school classmates couple of years ago in Tokyo. We did not see almost twenty years. When I first saw them I recognized bunch of middle age old men standing in front of me. It was kind of shocking, as you know, because I am the same age with them. We talked for a while, and we said one another “we are now old”. We said that by seeming each other. We did not look at our own face on the mirror, but we see each other, and said we are now old.
The comment is special because we cannot say it to anyone. This is the words only use among limited people. I cannot say ” we are now old” to the person sit next to me at Sturbucks. I cannot tell to my children. I cannot tell my teacher, but I can tell my high school classmates. The words can only say among the people who shared the days we spent in our life and only if our age is close.
God told Joshua “You are now very old”. Yes, Joshua is old enough to receive the invitation of Keiro Kai. This comment expressed warm compassion from God to him because God walked with his whole life and knew everything about him that is why God could say “You are now very old”. With same reason, God also told us “you are now old”.
When we gather High School Reunion, after we greet “We are now old”, we usually share about our illness and our health. We talk about blood pressure and supplement we are taking. But God was not. He said to Joshua “You are now old” and then He said to him “There are still very large areas of land to be taken over”.
God sometimes share His heart which we are totally not expected. We understand to talk college graduates, say you have many things to do but God told old man Joshua, there are still very large areas of land to taken over.
God said, There are still very large areas of land to be taken over”, and following that, he said “This is the land that remains”, and God told Joshua the practical name of the lands; all the regions of the Philistines（フィリスティン）and Geshurites（ゲシュライト）, 3 from the Shihor（シホル） River on the east of Egypt to the territory of Ekron on the north, all of it counted as Canaanite though held by the five Philistine rulers in Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath and Ekron….”
From here, next eleven chapters till the end of this book, God told him the lands Joshua should conquer. I tried to count it till 30 but I gave up because it is too many.
It is amazing how vast region he had to conquer. God told him clearly what he should do. More surprisingly, God told you what you should do for rest of your life. He told you the things only you can do.
We know Hanae Gilmaer san. She is our church member. She lives at group home in Spring Valley. It is hard for her to live alone. When I visit her she always said to me with big smile, yes always “Sensei, Jesus is wonderful! He saved even like me”. I believe everyone who visited her experience this.
Brothers and sisters, I commit my life to proclaim what she said. I always think about how I can tell the story to the people, but such person like me always encouraged by her words and for that, I could stand the pulpit this morning.
Hanae san does not have physical strength which she used have but Hanae san who are age of 88 years old said that with joyful face. She does not realize how much her words encourage us, and the one who was encouraged by her could encourage others. Her words does not remain herself, but the words spread unlimitedly. She is taking her land right now by her way.
There is a freshness date on the package of food. It says “eat by this month and this day” Some people say I am now expiring freshness date. It is such a humor but God did not put the notice on us.
The expired food will throw away, but we praise the Lord because our life will continue. Surely, the last day will come to anyone, but we still have land we should conquer.
Someday, our body might not move. We might not speak, but God gives us the most powerful role to us. Paul wrote about the power like this. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
Where is the power? The power is not what we are doing but within what we are being and that is in our prayer. We all become most influential one at the end of our life.
Dear brothers and sisters, God is speaking each one of us, “You are now old”. He knows our whole life that is why He could say that comment to us. He knows you are old now, and said but you still have the land you will be able to have. The land is different by each other, but God is clearly speaking to us. What is your land God is planning to give to you? Let us pray.
Heavenly father, thank you that we looked up your words in the day of Keiro Cerebration. You know the length of our life and we thank you know everything that happened in our life, and thank your whispers about our land which we will be able to conquer. May our heart will open before you. May we will not search the reasons of impossibility but may we step forward with our faith and may we conquer the land for your glory. we pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ.
