私達が経験していることは彼らも経験しています。ですからお好きな人をお選びください。彼らから知恵を得ましょう。彼らは２４/７、いつでも私達に助言をくれます。そして何よりも神の一人子なるイエス・キリストが私達に語りかける御言葉は私達の真理、命、光です。わたしたちはいつでもこの命の泉から活ける水をいただくことができるのです。

助言者に聴く 箴言２章１節―１０節 ２０１４年１月１２日
サンクス・ギビング、クリスマスと続いておりましたのでしばらく箴言から離れておりましたが、再び今日からシリーズとして見ております箴言に戻りたいと思います。箴言２章１節から１０節までを拝読させていただきます。
１わが子よ、もしあなたがわたしの言葉を受け、わたしの戒めを、あなたの心におさめ、２あなたの耳を知恵に傾け、あなたの心を悟りに向け、３しかも、もし知識を呼び求め、悟りを得ようと、あなたの声をあげ、４銀を求めるように、これを求め、かくれた宝を尋ねるように、これを尋ねるならば、５あなたは、主を恐れることを悟り、神を知ることができるようになる。６これは、主が知恵を与え、知識と悟りとは、み口から出るからである。７彼は正しい人のために、確かな知恵をたくわえ、誠実に歩む者の盾となって、８公正の道を保ち、その聖徒たちの道筋を守られる。９そのとき、あなたは、ついに正義と公正、公平とすべての良い道を悟る。１０これは知恵が、あなたの心にはいり、知識があなたの魂に楽しみとなるからである（箴言２章１節－１０節）。
ここからまず最初に見ていきたいことは「知恵は求めるものである」ということです。
知恵は求めるものである。
この箇所を見ていて気がつかされることがあります。すなわち知恵は私達が耳を傾けて、心を向けて、呼び求めて、声をあげ、尋ねることによって与えられるものであるということです。
神様は私達に自由な意思を与えてくださっているということをよくお話ししておりますので、皆さんも承知してくださっていると思います。神様は私達の考えや気持ちをねじふせるようなことをせずに、私達が自ら考え、自ら決断する余地を与えてくださっています。そこにまで神様が介入されるのなら、私達は操り人形にすぎず、そこには神様が私達人間との間に構築したいと願っておられる「信頼」とか「愛」という関係が成り立たなくなるからです。人に「自由意思」が与えられているということは、致命的なリスクを伴うことであり、実際に私達の世界の悲劇は人がこの「自由意思」をそれぞれの我欲を満たすために誤って用いるために起きていることです。しかし、神様はそれでも私達からこれを取り去ることしません。
ゆえに聖書を読んでいて分かりますことは、神様は私達が神様に応答することを待ち続けているということです。そうです、聖書の神は実に「私達を待ち続ける神」であり、それは私達が神様に願い求めることをいつまでも待っていてくださるお方だということです。このことはイエス様のあの有名な言葉によって明確です。
『7求めよ、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。捜せ、そうすれば、見いだすであろう。門をたたけ、そうすれば、あけてもらえるであろう。8すべて求める者は得、捜す者は見いだし、門をたたく者はあけてもらえるからである。9あなたがたのうちで、自分の子がパンを求めるのに、石を与える者があろうか。10魚を求めるのに、へびを与える者があろうか。11このように、あなたがたは悪い者であっても、自分の子供には、良い贈り物をすることを知っているとすれば、天にいますあなたがたの父はなおさら、求めてくる者に良いものを下さらないことがあろうか』（マタイ７章７節－１１節）。
このところでイエス様が引き合いにしているのは「親の我が子に対する思い」です。そうです、そう言っていただきますと私達にもこの言葉の意味が分かります。日本語には「遠慮」という言葉があります。私達は遠慮を美徳とする国民です。確かに図々しい人はあまり評価されません。しかしながら、これが親子の関係になると少々、勝手が違うようです。
子供の誕生日に外食に出かけて、その子がメニューと値段を見ながら食べたいものを遠慮するとしたら、それは親として悲しく、残念なことです。親なら一年に一度、その子の誕生をお祝いする時、その子が願うものなら何でも食べさせてあげたいと思うからです。子供が親に遠慮して、思っていること、感じていること、欲しいものを何も言わないことを親は願うでしょうか。いいえ、親は子が願っている本心を遠慮せずにぶつけてほしいものです。私達を子と呼ばれる父なる神様が私達に願われることも同じなのです。
知恵を願い求めるということに関して言えばヤコブ書の言葉が極めつけです。『5あなたがたのうち、知恵に不足している者があれば、その人は、とがめもせずに惜しみなくすべての人に与える神に、願い求めるがよい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。6ただ、疑わないで、信仰をもって願い求めなさい』（ヤコブ１章５節－６節）。
私の恩師に東京聖書学院名誉院長である小林和夫先生がいらっしゃいますが、先生がこのヤコブ書の言葉を引用しながら「この言葉は本当だよ」と話してくださったことを忘れることができません。先生は米国に留学して博士号をとられました。そのようなアカデミックな学識すらも、それが神の御心に叶うものであるのなら、祈り願い求めるのなら神様は惜しみなく与えてくださるんだぞと話してくださり、励まされました。
そして、それはいわゆるアカデミックなものだけではなくて、私達が日々、直面する問題に対する知恵ということにおいても神様は求める者に天来の知恵を与えてくださるのです。実際、私達がこの世の中を生きていくために必要なものはまさしく天来の知恵であり、これが与えられているか否かということで、私達のこの先の人生は全く違ったものとなるのです。ですから皆さん、遠慮せずに、父なる神様に知恵を与えてくださいと祈りましょう。さぁ、それでは二つめのことを見てまいりましょう。それは「助言者に聴く」ということです。
助言者に聴く
この知恵は私達が願い求めていく時に与えられるものです。与えられるということは、すでに知恵はそこにあるものなのです。どこにあるのでしょうか。そうです、天来の知恵は聖書の中に余すところなく書き記されているのです。
私達は学習することができるように造られています。そうです、学ぶことができるのです。そして、この学習は二つに分けられます。一つ、それは「既にそこにあるものから学ぶ」ということ。そうです、それは既にそこにある知恵から学ぶということです。そしてもう一つは「事の結果から学ぶ」ということ、すなわち「経験から学ぶ」ということです。このことについてワイで伝道牧会しているウエイン・コデイロ牧師の著書から最近、大切なことを教えられました。師は私達に問いかけます。
「既にそこにある知恵から学ぶこと」と「結果から学ぶこと」の違いは何でしょうか。それは既にそこにある知恵から学ぶということは、私達が過ちを犯す前に教訓が与えられているということです。結果から学ぶためには必要なことは、まず過ちを犯さなければなりません。
すなわち、こういうことです。「既にある知恵」は予め崖の上にフェンスを建ててくれます。それに対して「結果」は崖から落ち、病院に運ばれて、包帯でぐるぐる巻きになった時に現れてくるものだということです。
自動車修理工場にはこんな紙が貼られているのをご存知ですか。「車が故障する前に持ってきた場合、メインテナンス手数料は３０ドルです。故障する直前まで放っておいてから持ち込んだ場合、かかる費用は５００ドルです。完全に故障してから持ち込まれた場合は２０００ドル申し受けます」。
故障する前に対処するのか。故障してから対処するのか。どうしても壊れていく車を観察したいのなら、どうぞオイルを変えず、タイヤを変えずに車に乗り続けてください。しかしながら、この場合、車が壊れていく様を見るのみならず、ご自身の命すらも失いかねませんのでその覚悟が必要です。しかし、そうなる前に車を長持ちさせ、余計な出費、手間暇、命を守りたいのなら事前のメインテナンスが不可欠です。
私達はどちらを望みますか。確かに痛い経験から学ぶことは大切です。しかし、できることなら包帯でぐるぐる巻きになる前に、崖の上にフェンスが建てられることを私達は望みませんか。箴言はこう語りかけます。
「分別のある人は危険を前もって見極め、用心する。愚かな人は何も考えずに進んでいって、その結果に苦しむ」（箴言２２章３節 NLT）。A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.(New Living Translation) これが「知恵」と「結果」の違いなのです。
それではこれからとっておきのお話をしましょう。今日、礼拝に来られた方達はこの後の人生を大きく左右することになるかもしれません。それはこういうことです。
ここだけの話ですが（笑）、聖書に何が書かれているかと言いますと、崖の上にフェンスを設けることなく、崖に落ちてしまった人達のことがたくさん記されているのです。また同時に崖の上にフェンスを設け、自らを守った人達のことも書かれています。彼らは特別な人達ではなく、私達と何ら変わらない、鼻から息をしてこの世界を生きた人間です。
そして、もし私達が聖書をいつも手元に置き、それを開き、そこからこの人達の歩んだ生き方を知り、その人達と向き合い彼らと聖書の言葉を介して、会話をすることができるのなら、私達は世界最高のメンター（助言者）を持つことができるのです。
あぁー、言ってしまいました。とっておきの話は普通、隠しておきたいのですが、やはりそれはできません。皆さん、これはすごいことですよ。聖書に記されている人間はある意味、良き模範、反面教師、どちらの分野においてもまさしくオールスターのような人達です。彼らは私達と同じようにこの世界に生を受け、私達と同じような問題を抱え、同じような誘惑に直面し、偉大なことを成し遂げ、考えられないような失敗をし、病にかかり、最後は死をもってこの地での暮らしを閉じたのです。
ですから、私達はこの人達から学ぶことができるのです。そうです、そこは宝の山なのです。男と女について、夫婦について、親子について、兄弟について、私達はアダム、イブ、ノア、アブラハム、イサク、リベカ、エサウ、ヨセフとその兄弟達から多くのことを学ぶことができます。
ヨブ、サムソン、ダビデ、ヤコブ、ソロモンはその人生の中で夫婦の関係にひびが入ったり、親子の関係が破綻してしまったり、兄弟の関係が断絶してしまったり、両目を失ったり、もものつがいが外れたり、あらゆる代償を払い、知恵を得ました。私達はいつでも、どこでも、彼らと個人的に会話をして彼らが代償を払ったことによって得た知恵を獲得することができます。
神の愛について、信仰について、自分の性格について、自らの心にある敗北感について、疑いについて、心の弱さについて、体の弱さについて、人はどのように変わることができるのかということ、これらのことを知りたいのなら、これらに関する知恵を得るため代償を払ったペテロ、ヨハネ、パウロ、トマスにおおくを学ぶことができます。
そして、何よりもイエス・キリストが語られている言葉を一つ一つ、聞き取ってください。私達はなぜこの地に命を受けたのか、わたしはどう生きたらいいのか、何をしたらいいのか、死とは何なのか、愛されるということはどういうことなのか、無限の知恵がこのイエスの言葉の中に含まれています。
先日も教会の書籍を担当してくださっている方と話したのです。「聖書は高いですね～」って。そうなんです、確かに日本語聖書は高い値がついているのです。しかし、よくよく考えれば１７００ページもある書物なのですから、製本するのも大変なことでしょう。物は考えようで一冊、聖書を買えば、大切に使えば１０年、いやもっと長い間もちますでしょう。そこから私達に与えられる知恵を思えばこんなに安いものはないですね。カウンセラーに支払う一時間の代価で、向こう何十年、最高のメンターを常に私達のすぐ側に置くことができるのです。
聖書を開き、その世界に自らの身を置くということは私達の前にダビデがおり、ソロモンがおり、ヨシュアがおり、サムソンがいて、私達の個人的な専属のメンターとなってくれるということです。彼らが経験したこと、彼らの言動はどんな実を結んだのか、反対に彼らはどんなものを刈り取らなければならなくなったのか、その結末というものを私達は聖書を通して一部始終、見ることができ、その中に神様が彼らに何を願っていたのかということを知ることができるのです。
そして、そのことによって私達が得ることができるベニフィトは先に読みました箴言２章に記されているとおりなのです。６これは、主が知恵を与え、知識と悟りとは、み口から出るからである。７彼は正しい人のために、確かな知恵をたくわえ、誠実に歩む者の盾となって、８公正の道を保ち、その聖徒たちの道筋を守られる。９そのとき、あなたは、ついに正義と公正、公平とすべての良い道を悟る。１０これは知恵が、あなたの心にはいり、知識があなたの魂に楽しみとなるからである（箴言２章６節－１０節）。
神様が与えてくださる知恵は私達を守り、それにより私達は自らが歩むべき筋道を知り（私達が歩むべき筋道は、既にお話ししましたように、先にその道を歩んでいった者達の足跡によって、私達に明らかにされるものです）、その知恵が私達の心にあるのならば、それは私達の魂の楽しみとなるというのです。その知恵は私達を守るだけのものではなく、それが私達の楽しみに、喜びになるというのです。私達の人生において何が損失かって、これらをミスするほどの損失は他にはありません。
スターバックスでコーヒーを飲みながら創世記のヨセフ物語を読んでみてください。その時、私達はヨセフとお茶をしているのです。休暇に聖書を持参して飛行機の中でイスラエルの荒野の放浪を読んでみてください。その時、モーセは私達の隣の席に座っているのです。聖書の中のメンターを通して日々、私達に語られる神の教えよりも価値あるものはこの世には存在しません。
今朝、心に刻みましょう。既に答えはそこにあるのです。聖書の中のメンター達は私達を待っています。私達がこの聖書の言葉によってダイレクトに教訓と指針を得ることができるようになっていく醍醐味を味わってみてください。最近、本当に思います。牧師がすべき最も大切なことの一つは、皆さんお一人お一人がしっかりとこのメンターと会話ができるようになるまで、このメンターと親密な時を過ごすことができるようになるまで、牧師としてどのようなお手伝いができるかということです。
想像してみてください。私達がそれぞれダイレクトに神様からの御声を聴くことができるようになるということを。そこにいたるまで私達は人を介して、それを得ようとします。しかし人を介するということは、その間にその人の主観も入ってきます。しかし、神の語りかけを直接聴くことができるようになるのなら、まず私達が変わります。私達が変われば私達の家庭がかわり、家庭がかわれば、やがて世界がかわります。そして、当然、教会も変わります。
ここ最近、教会の中で自主的にあちこちでバイブルスタディーがもたれていることを心から喜んでいます。数人の人達が集まり、聖書の言葉に向き合い、各々の想いを分かち合います。その時に神様は自分の心にない気づきを与えてくださるでしょう。「バイブルスタディー」となると、自分にはできないと思われる方がいるかもしれません。しかし、数人の人達と静かな場所で、お茶でも飲みながら「聖書を読む会」というのはいかがでしょうか。ただ順番に聖書を輪読するのです。そこに解説者はいりません。そこに牧師はいりません。もし、疑問があれば書き留めておいて後で牧師に聞けばいいのです。ただ、ありのままの聖書の語りかけに心を開くのです。新しい年、もし、そんな思いが与えられている方がいましたら、月一度からでもいいですから、そんなスモールグループを立ち上げてみませんか。必要でしたらいつでもお声をおかけください。喜んで立ち上げのお手伝いをさせていただきます。そこに集う皆さんはいつでもイエス様や１２弟子と共にあのエルサレムの二階座敷に座り、主の聖餐にあずかることができるのです。オリーブ山の群集の中の一人として主イエスの御声を直接聴くことができるのです。
私達は一日に約３００の決断をすると言われています。何時に起きるのか。起きてから何をするのか。何を着るのか。何を食べるのか。まず最初に取りかかる仕事は何なのか。毎日が決断につぐ決断です。そして、このうちの１０パーセントがその後の人生を左右する可能性をもっているそうです。
朝五時に会ってくれるカウンセラーはいません。しかし、このメンターは私達が起きる前から、私達を待っています。朝毎にこのメンターから知恵を得てください。２４/７、人類史上最高のメンターが私達といつも共にいるのです。その日に起こりうることに対して、事前にガードレールを設置し、その日にすべきことを全てメンターの前に、神様の前に持ち出して確認してみてください。それまで気がつかなかった気づきが与えられるでしょう。そしていつの間にか、このメンターとの時間が楽しみとなっていることに気がつくことでしょう。
『16聖書は、すべて神の霊感を受けて書かれたものであって、人を教え、戒め、正しくし、義に導くのに有益である。17それによって、神の人が、あらゆる良いわざに対して十分な準備ができて、完全にととのえられた者になるのである』（テモテ第二の手紙３章１６節、１７節）。ここには「あらゆる良いわざに対する十分な準備ができる」と書いてあります。そうです、聖書の御言葉により、私達は教えられ、戒められ、正され、義に導かれます。これらは事が起きる前に備えておくべきことです。事が起きる前にガードレールを備え、事がさらに大きな祝福を得ることができるようにあらかじめ天来の知恵をもって備えておくことです。
ある医学雑誌にこんなことが書かれていたそうです。「２１世紀のアメリカ人の健康は、もはや医者に何をしてもらうかには左右されない。むしろ大切なのは、健康のために良い習慣をどれだけその人達に身につけさせることができるかだ」。
日々、メンターとのアポイントメントをとることを習慣としましょう。天来のみ言葉をいただき、自らそれに養われ、さとしを与えられるということは健全なクリスチャンの要であり、健全な家庭、健全な教会の土台です。
最初にお話したことに戻ります。これらは全て私達が求めるものです。誰彼ではない、あなたが決断して、決めることです。神様ですらそのところには介入されないのですから、どうして人がそこに入り込むことができましょう。
今日の礼拝プログラムに一年間の聖書通読表を入れさせていただきました。この一年も聖書通読のための「一日一生」を皆さんにお配りします。今日は１月１２日、大目にみてまだ新しい年の初めとさせていただきましょう。わたしが言えること、出来ることはここまでです。皆さんのお手元に聖書があるのなら、もう皆さんは準備万端です。これから先のことは皆さんに託されています。ここに集われている皆さんが誰一人もれることなく、本日から聖書の中にいるメンターと会うアポイントメントを日ごとにその生活の中に取り入れることができますようにと心から願っています。お祈りしましょう。

We have been away from the Proverbs for a while because of the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Today I want to go back to our series from Proverbs.. Proverbs chapter 2, verses 1 to 10 say:
My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,
2 turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—
3 indeed, if you call out for insight
and cry aloud for understanding,
4 and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,
5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
From this I want you to learn that Wisdom is a gift that we receive only when we search for it
You will know from this that wisdom is given by turning your ear to and applying your heart to understanding. You must call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding.
God gives people free will to make choices of their own. God could control all that we do and think. Instead, He gives us free will. If God controlled all we did and thought we would be like puppets to Him. If God controlled everything about us, we would not have the loving and trusting relationship with Him that He wants.
The free will that God gives us allows us to make mistakes. Many tragedies happen in this world because of our misuse of our free will. Even though we make these mistakes, God never takes away the gift of free will.
I found throughout the Bible that God is always there for us, waiting for us to come to Him. The following verses of Matthew show us how God waits for us to find Him through the scriptures
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. 9 “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matthew Chapter 7, 7-11)
In verses 9 to 11 Jesus explains that our relationship with God should be similar to that of a parent’s relationship with their children. In the typical Japanese culture, out of a sense of politeness and consideration, people never want to assume too much. This is expressed by the Japanese word ENRYO. Japanese people value this as polite and considerate. But this approach is not straightforward. But the relationship between a parents and a child is supposed be straightforward.
As an example, when you take your child out to dinner to celebrate their birthday, you want them to order whatever they want. It is sad for the parent if they feel the child is hesitant to assume he should have the best. Parents want their children to be totally honest with them. God who is our father wants us to be totally open and honest with Him.
If we are searching for wisdom, we probably want to go to James chapter 1 ver. 5 – 6.
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
My professor, Dr. Kazuo Kobayashi, who is an honorary director at Tokyo Bible University, told me how much truth there was in this verse. He came to the US for his PHD after doing his undergraduate work in Tokyo. He asked God for help in understanding God’s words, especially in a foreign language. He was sure he would not have been able to accomplish what he did without God’s help. If you are praying and asking for wisdom from the bottom of your heart, God will abundantly give you knowledge and understanding.
It isn’t only for academics that God gives us wisdom, but also for problem solving in our everyday lives. We need God’s wisdom to live successfully in this world. Without God’s wisdom our lives would be lead very differently. Through our prayers we should ask God for wisdom. Let us not forget in our prayers, to always ask God to give us wisdom.
Let’s talk next about listening to our mentors.
Wisdom is given only when we search for it. Wisdom is always available for us. Where is it you ask? It is in the Bible. The Bible is filled with wisdom for us.
God created us to be able to learn. There are two different types of learning.
One is called second-hand knowledge where you learn through someone else’s experiences and knowledge. The Bible is wonderful source of this kind of wisdom for us.
The other is referred to as first-hand knowledge. Firs-thand knowledge means learning from our own experiences. With this form of learning we also suffer the results of our experiences.
I recently read a book by Pastor Wayne Coderoi of Hawaii. It discussed the difference between these two knowledge. I learned a very important thing from the book. Pastor Coderoi asks in the book, “what is the difference between wisdom that is already in the Bible and wisdom learned from own experience?”
When we learn through second hand learning, it shows us a path way to mistakes and we can avoid these. When we learn from our own experiences we make mistakes and then have to learn from these mistake.
First-hand learning is like falling off an unfenced cliff and going to the hospital. We learn the hard way. Second-hand learning is like having a fence around the cliff to keep us from falling.
Have you ever seen this sign in the auto repair shop? If it is regular maintenance, the fee is $ 30 . If you bring it in just prior to failure, the cost is $ 500 . Taking care of yourself before the major repair or waiting for major problems is continue to ride in the car without changing the oil or tires. However, if you decide to not maintain the car you will have to watch the car fall apart and you might possible even lose your own life and hurt others in the process. In order to maintain your car, and decrease your overall expenses and time, you need to do regular maintenance.
Which direction do you want to choose? Sometimes we have to learn through painful experiences. But most often we would like to have the fence at the end of the cliff.
Proverbs tells us :
A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.(Proverbs chap.22-3)
Now I will tell you a very interesting story. My talk today might change your life.
Many people think that the Bible is full of examples of good people. In reality God shows us regular people who might not have put a fence at the end of cliff and fell over the edge. There are also examples of people who have put a fence at the end of the cliff and protected themselves.
If we keep the Bible always at our side, we can use the people in the Bible as our mentors. We can learn from their lives and experiences. These people are the best mentors in the world.
I ‘d like you to think that the wisdom you can learn from the Bible is my special secret. But it is not. It is for everyone. It’s a great thing that the Bible is full of all these STARS! For these people lived in the world just as you do and faced problems just like you do. Some had great success and others were failures. They all lived their lives and eventually died just as we will.
The Bible is full of treasures and an abundance of knowledge for us to learn from. We have examples from men and women, couples, relationships between parents and children, brothers and sister such as Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Rebecca, Esau, Joseph and so on.
Job, Samson, David, Jacob and Solomon, suffered broken relationship with others or suffered physical pain. Through the price they paid they learned wisdom. We can learn wisdom second-hand through the mistakes.
Peter, Jonathan, Paul and Thomas are examples for us to learn about God’s love and faith. We also learn our own personality and our weakness’ either physical or mental from them. Mentors in the Bible overcame these weaknesses. We can gain wisdom through reading about their experiences.
Most importantly please pay close attention to the words Jesus spoke. His words should always be first. They give us endless knowledge on subjects such as; why do we live in this world? How should we lead our lives? What should we do? What is death? And, what is love?
I was recently talking with a church member who is in charge of our library. She said that the Japanese Bibles are very expensive. I said that’s right. Japanese Bibles are expensive. But the Bible contains 1700 pages and it is hard to assemble. One Bible should last at least ten years and the wisdom gained from it is priceless. A one hour session with a counselor will easily cost the price of one Bible. That one Bible will supply you with the best mentors and wisdom for several decades.
If you open the Bible, there you can imagine David in front of you, and Solomon, Joshua, Samson are there too. They all could be our personal mentors. We are able to learn what God wants us to learn through these people.
The benefit that we can receive is written in Proverbs 2, which I read earlier.
For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
7 He holds success in store for the upright,
he is a shield to those whose walk is blameless,
8 for he guards the course of the just
and protects the way of his faithful ones.
9 Then you will understand what is right and just
and fair—every good path.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart,
and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul.
The wisdom we learn through God’s words, the Bible, protects us and leads us to a closer walk with God. It also brings joy to our heart. If the wisdom we learn and the joy we experience make our lives so much better, why would anyone miss this opportunity?
If you read the story of Joseph, in Genesis in your Bible, while you are having coffee at Starbucks, you can share this time with Joseph. Take you Bible on the airplane on vacation. Then you can read the story about the exodus and pretend Moses is sitting next to you. Through the mentors in the Bible the teachings of God are priceless.
Please remember, the mentors are already there for us. Please enjoy the teaching, direct to you, from the Bible. I recently realized that the most important thing a pastor can do is help connect you with the mentors of the Bible.。
Imagine that you can hear the voice direct from the Bible. This is the perfect way to learn from the Bible. But sometimes, before we can do that, you have to hear the words through another person, such as a pastor. The middle man can influence you in understanding Bible. If you could hear God’s voice directly, your life would be changed and in turn your family would be changed. If your family changed the world in turn would be changed.
I recently heard that there have been some spontaneous Bible study groups that have formed in this church. In a group situation you all can share your knowledge. Sometimes a group can be just as simple as people sharing coffee and reading their own Bibles. You don’t need an interpreter. You don’t need a pastor. If you have a question, note it and ask a pastor later. Just open your heart to the Bible when you are reading. It is still early in 2014, if you would like to form a bible study group and meet once a month, please do so. If you need help, please let me know. I would love to help you start a group.
Your group can share with the mentors at the last supper or be one of the crowd on Mt. Olive.
We make 300 decisions every day. From the time to wake up to the time we go to the bed. 10 % of these can change the direction of our lives. There are no counselors available to meet with us at 5 am., but the mentors of the Bible are always there. 24/7 the mentors are with us. Talk with the mentors and God before you start your day. Listen to what they say. They may warn you to put a fence at the edge of the cliff that day.
2 Timothy chapter 3 ver.16,17 say:
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
It says that all scripture is meant to teach and correct and train us so we are equipped to do God’s work.
A medical magazine says that in the 21st century the doctor’s role in the United States will be to advise people on a correct life style. Their role will center on advice rather than treatment.
Let us form a habit of having time with our mentors every day. Listening to and learning from the Bible, and being nurtured by its words is a healthy life style for Christian living and the Christian family. This is the foundation of a healthy church.
Remember the things that I talked about earlier. This is what we are seeking. You have to decide and make a decision. God has given us free will. Let us use this free will to make the decision to seek out God’s wisdom that is found in the Bible. This is what we should be seeking.
. Today in your program you received a daily schedule for reading the Bible in 2014. It’s still early in the year. It is only January 12th today. As a pastor this is all I can do and all I can say. You have a Bible next to you. Now you are ready. It’s up to you from now on. I pray that today you will see the mentors in the Bible and start a daily relationship with them.

６）テモテ第二の手紙３章１６節、Ⅰ７節を読みましょう。ここには「あらゆる良いわざに対して十分な準備ができて、完全にととのえられた者になるのである」と書かれています。私達はどのようにしてその「準備」ができますか。「準備する」ということと「習慣とする」ということはどのように関係していますか。
