今回のメッセージでは、預言者エリシャを見てみます。エリシャは、ある意味、エリヤが落ち込んでいた時、彼の絶望の祈りに対する神様の答えでした。エリヤは本当に友を必要としており、神様はその友として、またエリヤの後継者としてエリシャを与えられたのです。

エリヤはエリシャに初めて会ったとき、外套を彼の上にかけました。エリシャは、エリヤが自分を弟子として召したことを理解していました。エリヤが昇天された後、エリシャはエリアから落ちた外套を取り上げました。こうしてエリシャは、神の預言者としてエリヤから神の祝福の外套を受け取ったのです。

Elisha: Receiving the Mantle of God’s Blessings
エリシャ： 神の祝福の外套を受け取る

I am sorry to begin this message with a random question, but have you ever run in a relay race?唐突な質問ですが、皆さんはリレーを走ったことがありますか？

If you have participated in an undokai in a Japanese school, you have probably run in one.日本の学校で運動会に参加したことがある人なら、おそらく走ったことがあるでしょう。

I did, when I ran in one while in elementary school in Japan.私は日本の小学生の時に走ったことがあります。

I can tell you, I was not a fast runner then, and never have been.私は当時も今も、決して走るのが速くはありませんでした。

However, in a relay race, the most important thing is to run your leg of the race as best you can しかし、リレーで一番大切なことはベストを尽くして走り、

and to make sure to hand the baton safely to the next runner or to finish the race with the baton in hand.次の走者にバトンを確実に渡すこと、あるいはバトンを持ったままゴールすることです。

Though running fast is important in order to win in a race, finishing the race is the goal for most of us when running in a race.レースで勝つためには速く走ることが重要ですが、完走することがほとんどの人にとってレースのゴールとなります。

I believe this is especially true in a relay race.リレーでは特にそうだと思います。

You focus on the responsibility that is handed to you through the baton to run the leg that you are responsible to run.手渡されたバトンに責任を集中し、全力で走るのです。

And you run it to make sure that the baton is handed to the next runner.そして、次の走者に確実にバトンが渡されるように走るのです。

The baton that was entrusted to you is to be entrusted to the next runner.あなたに託されたバトンは、次の走者に託されます。

I believe this is a beautiful picture of how life on this earth should be lived.このことは、この地上の人生をどのように生きるべきかを示す美しい光景だと思います。

None of us is truly living for just ourself.私達は誰ひとりとして、自分のためだけに生きているわけではありません。

We all have parents.  We have received many things from them that they have entrusted to us.誰にでも親がいます。 私達は親から託されたものがたくさんあります。

They received those things from their parents.彼らは両親からそれらを受け取ったのです。

We all also have people who are younger than us, whether it be our own children, grandchildren, nephews or nieces, or those who are placed under our authority and care.自分の子供や孫、甥や姪、あるいは自分の権威や世話の下に置かれている人など、私達にも自分より年下の人達がいます。

Often without even noticing, we entrust to them a part of ourselves.多くの場合、私達は気づかないうちに、自分の一部を彼らに委ねています。

We are to run our life that God has entrusted us to live with great care.私達は神様から託された人生を、細心の注意を払って使わなければなりません。

For we have received a baton to run with to hand to the next generation.私達は次の世代に手渡すバトンを受け取ったのですから。

A couple of Sundays ago, we looked at the prophet Elijah.先々週の日曜日、私たちは預言者エリヤを見ました。

Today, we will look at the prophet Elisha.今日は、預言者エリシャを見てみましょう。

Elisha in a sense was God’s answer to Elijah’s prayer of desperation when he was in his depressed state.エリシャは、ある意味、エリヤが落ち込んでいた時、彼の絶望の祈りに対する神様の答えでした。

As Elijah was venting his frustrations to God on Mount Horeb, God responded by giving him words of assurance.エリヤがホレブ山で神様に不満をぶちまけていると、神様はそれに応えて彼に保証の言葉を与えました。

When God asked Elijah two times, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” (1 Kings 19:9, 13) 神様が二度、エリヤに「エリヤよ、あなたはここで何をしているのか」（列王記上１９章９節と１３節）とたずねた時、

Elijah responded both times with the same response:エリヤは二度とも同じ返事をしました：

1 Kings 19:10 and 14（列王記上１９章１０節と１４節）“I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”「わたしは万軍の神、主のために非常に熱心でありました。イスラエルの人々はあなたの契約を捨て、あなたの祭壇をこわし、刀であなたの預言者たちを殺したからです。ただわたしだけ残りましたが、彼らはわたしの命を取ろうとしています」。

It was in response to Elijah’s cries of desperation that God answered him with the following words:エリヤの絶望の叫びに対して、神様は次のように答えました：

1 Kings 19:15-18（列王記上１９章１５節—１８節）

¹⁵ The Lord said to him, “Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, and when you have arrived, you shall anoint Hazael king over Aram; ¹⁶ and Jehu the son of Nimshi you shall anoint king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah you shall anoint as prophet in your place. ¹⁷ It shall come about, the one who escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall put to death, and the one who escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall put to death. ¹⁸ Yet I will leave 7,000 in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal and every mouth that has not kissed him.” ¹⁵主は彼に言われた、「あなたの道を帰って行って、ダマスコの荒野におもむき、ダマスコに着いて、ハザエルに油を注ぎ、スリヤの王としなさい。¹⁶またニムシの子エヒウに油を注いでイスラエルの王としなさい。またアベルメホラのシャパテの子エリシャに油を注いで、あなたに代って預言者としなさい。¹⁷ハザエルのつるぎをのがれる者をエヒウが殺し、エヒウのつるぎをのがれる者をエリシャが殺すであろう。¹⁸また、わたしはイスラエルのうちに七千人を残すであろう。皆バアルにひざをかがめず、それに口づけしない者である」。

Elijah must have felt like he was running his leg of the relay in vain.エリヤは、自分のリレーが無駄に終わったように感じたに違いありません。

He must have felt like there was no one after him to pass the baton to.自分の後にバトンを渡す人がいないと感じたに違いなありません。

Of course, in this case the baton was the prophetic ministry that he was called by God to fulfill.もちろん、この場合のバトンとは、エリヤが神様から召されて果たすべき預言者の務めのことです。

But here, God assures Elijah that he was not running in vain.しかし、ここで神様は、エリヤが無駄に走っていたのではないことを保証されました。

God also assures him that there is someone that he can hand the baton to next.神様はまた、次にバトンを渡せる人がいることも保証しています。

That someone was Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah.その人物とは、アベルメホラのシャパテの子エリシャです。

One of Elijah’s main complaints before God was that he was alone.エリヤの神様に対する不満の一つは、彼が孤独であることでした。

Elijah truly needed a friend, and God gave Elisha to be his friend.エリヤは本当に友を必要としており、神様はその友としてエリシャを与えられたのです。

Elisha was to be more than a friend to Elijah, for he was also to be his successor.エリシャはエリヤの友人である以上に、エリヤの後継者でもありました。

Elisha was to learn from Elijah of what it meant to be a prophet of God.エリシャは、神様の預言者であることの意味をエリヤから学ぶことになったのです。

So, we see that after receiving these words of encouragement from God, Elijah was able to get up and get going once again.こうして、神様からの励ましの言葉を受けたエリヤは、再び立ち上がり、動き出すことができたのです。

And he did not waste any time in going to find Elisha.そして時間を無駄にすることなくエリシャを探しに出かけました。

1 Kings 19:19-21（列王記上１９章１９節—２１節）

¹⁹ So he departed from there and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, while he was plowing with twelve pairs of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth. And Elijah passed over to him and threw his mantle on him. ²⁰ He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you.” And he said to him, “Go back again, for what have I done to you?” ²¹ So he returned from following him, and took the pair of oxen and sacrificed them and boiled their flesh with the implements of the oxen, and gave it to the people and they ate. Then he arose and followed Elijah and ministered to him. ¹⁹さてエリヤはそこを去って行って、シャパテの子エリシャに会った。彼は十二くびきの牛を前に行かせ、自分は十二番目のくびきと共にいて耕していた。エリヤは彼のかたわらを通り過ぎて外套を彼の上にかけた。²⁰エリシャは牛を捨て、エリヤのあとに走ってきて言った、「わたしの父母に口づけさせてください。そして後あなたに従いましょう」。エリヤは彼に言った、「行ってきなさい。わたしはあなたに何をしましたか」。²¹エリシャは彼を離れて帰り、ひとくびきの牛を取って殺し、牛のくびきを燃やしてその肉を煮、それを民に与えて食べさせ、立って行ってエリヤに従い、彼に仕えた。

From this passage of Scripture, we see that Elisha was plowing the ground.この聖句から、エリシャが地面を耕していたことが分かります。

This meant that Elisha was a farmer. これは、エリシャが農夫であったことを意味しています。

Probably his father Shaphat was a farmer as well. おそらく、彼の父シャパテも農夫であったと思われます。

Based on the fact that Elisha was plowing the ground with twelve pairs of oxen before him, エリシャが十二くびきの牛を前に行かせ、分は十二番目のくびきと共にいて

while he was with the twelfth and last pair, indicated that he had a large field to plow.自地を耕していたという事実から、エリシャは広い畑を持っていたことが分かります。

It also would suggest that he and his family was wealthy.また、このことは彼とその家族が裕福であったことを示唆しています。

It is quite interesting to read of what Elijah did once he found Elisha.エリヤがエリシャを見つけてからしたことは、非常に興味深いことです。

It says that: Elijah passed over to him and threw his mantle on him. こう書いてあります： エリヤは彼のかたわらを通り過ぎて外套を彼の上にかけた。

The mantle, which was something that was worn by a prophet, was the symbol of Elijah’s prophetic authority.外套は預言者が身につけるもので、エリヤの預言者として権威の象徴でした。

Think of it as like a uniform that quickly identifies a person’s work and authority.それは、その人の仕事や権威をすぐに識別させる制服のようなものだと考えてみてください。

We can recognize police officers, fire fighters, and military personnel by the uniforms that they wear.私達は警察官、消防士、軍人が着ている制服で彼らを見分けることができます。

Likewise, the mantle represents a uniform of authority that a prophet wears that identifies his spiritual authority and power.同じように、その外套は預言者が着る権威の制服を表し、彼の霊的権威と力を識別するものなのです。

Thus, what Elijah did in throwing his mantle on Elisha was a dramatic way of saying, “I call upon you to join in my work as a prophet.”したがって、エリヤがエリシャに外套をかけたことは「預言者としての私の働きに加わるよう、あなたを召します」という劇的な言いまわしだったのです。

As we can see from Elisha’s response, he understood this call upon his life.エリシャの反応から分かるように、彼は自分の人生に対するこの呼びかけを理解していました。

For it says: こう言われているからです。

He left the oxen and ran after Elijah and said, “Please let me kiss my father and my mother, then I will follow you.” エリシャは牛を捨て、エリヤのあとに走ってきて言った、「わたしの父母に口づけさせてください。そして後あなたに従いましょう」。

Elisha understood that Elijah had called him to become his disciple (a follower).エリシャは、エリヤが自分を弟子（従者）として召したことを理解していました。

However, he wanted to say farewell to his family before taking off with Elijah.しかし、彼はエリヤと共に旅立つ前に、家族に別れを告げたかったのです。

Elijah permitted Elisha to do so.エリヤはエリシャにそのことを許しました。

It is interesting to note what Elisha did with his pair of oxen that just minutes ago he was using to plow the field.エリシャが、ほんの数分前まで畑を耕すのに使っていた一対の牛になしたことは興味深いことです。

He sacrificed them and prepared a meal with them, and gave it to his family and friends to eat.彼は牛を生け贄として捧げ、その牛で食事を作り、家族や友人に食べさせたのです。

This demonstrated Elisha’s complete commitment to follow Elijah.このことはエリシャがエリヤに従うことに完全にコミットしていたことを示しました。

For he destroyed that which he used to do his farming work in a going-away party for his family and friends.エリシャは、自分の農作業に使っていたものを、自分の家族と友人たちのための別れの宴のために滅ぼしたのです。

After this farewell party, it says: Then he arose and followed Elijah and ministered to him. その送別会の後に、彼は立ってエリヤに従い、仕えました。

It is interesting to note that after this, Elisha is not mentioned in the Bible until the time of Elijah’s departure. 興味深いことに、この後、エリシャはエリヤが去る時まで聖書に登場しません。

So, I would like to call this period of time as Elisha’s quiet service of assisting Elijah.そこで私は、この期間をエリヤを助けるエリシャの静かなる奉仕と呼びたいと思います。

While Elijah’s ministry continued, Elisha served him, similar to how Joshua had assisted Moses.エリヤのはたらきが続く間、エリシャはヨシュアがモーセを助けたのと同じように、エリヤに仕えたのです。

It was only after Elijah’s ascension to heaven that Elisha took on the role as the full successor to Elijah. エリシャがエリヤの完全な後継者としての役割を担うようになったのは、エリヤが天に昇ってからです。

There are variations as to how long a period this quiet season of service was for Elisha. この静かな奉仕の時期がエリシャにとってどれほどの期間であったかについては、様々な説があります。

One Bible chronology study suggested it was 13 years, while another study showed that it was a period of 23 years. ある聖書年代の研究では１３年であったとされていますが、別の研究では２３年であったとされています。

So, Elisha followed Elijah and ministered to him for many years before carrying on the full weight of the mantle of responsibility that was handed to him by Elijah. つまり、エリシャは、エリヤから手渡された責任ある外套の重責を担うまで、何年もエリヤに従って奉仕したのです。

This highlights the importance of waiting with expectancy and preparing and serving.このことは、期待して待つこと、準備して仕えることの重要性を浮き彫りにしています。

During this time, Elisha was learning to minister by watching and learning and taking on more and more responsibilities as a prophet of God.この間、エリシャは神の預言者として、見習いながら宣教を学び、ますます責任を負っていきました。

Thus, we can see Elisha’s faithfulness and persistence in following Elijah.このように、エリシャがエリヤに忠実に、粘り強く従っていたことが分かります。

This can be seen fully in the way that Elisha stayed by the side of Elijah until the time of Elijah’s ascension to heaven.それは、エリヤが天に昇る時まで、エリシャがエリヤの側にいたことによく表れています。

2 Kings 2（列王記下２章）

¹ And it came about when the Lord was about to take up Elijah by a whirlwind to heaven, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. ² Elijah said to Elisha, “Stay here please, for the Lord has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As the Lord lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. ³ Then the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?” And he said, “Yes, I know; be still.” ⁴ Elijah said to him, “Elisha, please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” But he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they came to Jericho. ⁵ The sons of the prophets who were at Jericho approached Elisha and said to him, “Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?” And he answered, “Yes, I know; be still.” ⁶ Then Elijah said to him, “Please stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” And he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on. ¹主がつむじ風をもってエリヤを天に上らせようとされた時、エリヤはエリシャと共にギルガルを出て行った。²エリヤはエリシャに言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをベテルにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはベテルへ下った。³ベテルにいる預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとに出てきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。⁴エリヤは彼に言った、「エリシャよ、どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをエリコにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはエリコへ行った。 ⁵エリコにいた預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとにきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。⁶エリヤはまた彼に言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをヨルダンにつかわされるのですから」。しかし彼は言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そしてふたりは進んで行った。

Elisha accompanied Elijah as he made his rounds to the schools of the prophets.エリシャは、エリヤが預言者達の学校を巡回する時に同行しました。

Just before Elijah was caught up to heaven, they went from Gilgal to Bethel and Jericho.エリヤが天に引き上げられる直前、彼らはギルガルからベテルとエリコに向かいました。

At Bethel and Jericho, “the sons of the prophets” asked Elisha if he knew that the Lord would take Elijah away from him that day.ベテルとエリコで「預言者達のともがら」はエリシャに、その日、主がエリヤを連れ去られることを知っているかと尋ねました。

Of course, Elisha knew about this.もちろん、エリシャはそのことを知っていました。

And, Elisha made sure that he would be right by Elijah’s side as long as he remained on earth.そして、エリシャは、エリヤが地上にいる限り、エリヤのすぐ側にいるようにしました。

So, Elisha continued on with Elijah to the Jordan River, and got to see him be taken up to heaven.こうしてエリシャはエリヤと共にヨルダン川まで進み、エリヤが天に召されるのを見届けたのです。

2 Kings 2（列王記下２章）

⁷ Now fifty men of the sons of the prophets went and stood opposite them at a distance, while the two of them stood by the Jordan. ⁸ Elijah took his mantle and folded it together and struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground. ⁹ When they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” ¹⁰ He said, “You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be so.” ¹¹ As they were going along and talking, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire and horses of fire which separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind to heaven. ¹² Elisha saw it and cried out, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” And he saw Elijah no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them in two pieces. ¹³ He also took up the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and returned and stood by the bank of the Jordan. ¹⁴ He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and struck the waters and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha crossed over. ¹⁵ Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho opposite him saw him, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” ⁷預言者のともがら五十人も行って、彼らにむかって、はるかに離れて立っていた。彼らふたりは、ヨルダンのほとりに立ったが、⁸エリヤは外套を取り、それを巻いて水を打つと、水が左右に分れたので、二人はかわいた土の上を渡ることができた。⁹彼らが渡ったとき、エリヤはエリシャに言った、「わたしが取られて、あなたを離れる前に、あなたのしてほしい事を求めなさい」。エリシャは言った、「どうぞ、あなたの霊の二つの分をわたしに継がせてください」。¹⁰エリヤは言った、「あなたはむずかしい事を求める。あなたがもし、わたしが取られて、あなたを離れるのを見るならば、そのようになるであろう。しかし見ないならば、そのようにはならない」。¹¹彼らが進みながら語っていた時、火の車と火の馬があらわれて、ふたりを隔てた。そしてエリヤはつむじ風に乗って天にのぼった。¹²エリシャはこれを見て「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と叫んだが、再び彼を見なかった。そこでエリシャは自分の着物をつかんで、それを二つに裂き、¹³またエリヤの身から落ちた外套を取り上げ、帰ってきてヨルダンの岸に立った。¹⁴そしてエリヤの身から落ちたその外套を取って水を打ち、「エリヤの神、主はどこにおられますか」と言い、彼が水を打つと、水は左右に分れたので、エリシャは渡った。¹⁵エリコにいる預言者のともがらは彼の近づいて来るのを見て、「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」と言った。

 

Note what Elisha asked Elijah for:エリシャがエリアにたずねたことに注目してください。

 

“Please, let a double portion of your spirit be upon me.” 「どうぞ、あなたの霊の二つの分をわたしに継がせてください」。

And because Elisha saw Elijah taken from him, God did give him a double portion of Elijah’s spirit.そして、エリシャはエリヤが自分から連れ去られるのを見たので、神様は彼にエリヤの霊の二倍の分け前を与えました。

We will get back to this a little later.このことについては、後で少し触れることにしましょう。

Note also that Elisha took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him.また、エリシャは、エリアから落ちた外套を取り上げたことにも注目してください。

This was symbolic of the passing on of the mantle of prophetic authority and responsibility from Elijah to Elisha.これは、エリヤからエリシャに預言者の権威と責任の外套が受け継がれたことを象徴しています。

And with that, Elisha was able to divide the waters of the Jordan River just as Elijah had done so moments before.そして、それを持ってエリシャは、エリヤがその直前にしたように、ヨルダン川の水を分けることができたのです。

This transference of the mantle of prophetic authority was recognized by the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho who saw this.この預言者としての権威の外套の移譲は、エリコにいた預言者たちのともがらによって認識されました。

They recognized that “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.”彼らは「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」ことを認めました。

So, we see right away how Elisha was sought after to address the concerns of the people.そして、エリシャがいかに人々の悩みを解決するために求められていたかが、この後、すぐに分かるのです。

2 Kings 2（列王記下２章）

¹⁹ Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold now, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad and the land is unfruitful.” ²⁰ He said, “Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him. ²¹ He went out to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, “Thus says the Lord, ‘I have purified these waters; there shall not be from there death or unfruitfulness any longer.’” ²² So the waters have been purified to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke. ¹⁹町の人々はエリシャに言った、「見られるとおり、この町の場所は良いが水が悪いので、この地は流産を起すのです」。²⁰エリシャは言った、「新しい皿に塩を盛って、わたしに持ってきなさい」。彼らは持ってきた。²¹エリシャは水の源へ出て行って、塩をそこに投げ入れて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの水を良い水にした。もはやここには死も流産も起らないであろう』」。²²こうしてその水はエリシャの言ったとおりに良い水になって今日に至っている。

As the successor to Elijah, Elisha continued to serve the schools of the prophets, helping the needy, performing miracles, giving advice to the king, and acting as a spokesman for God.エリヤの後継者として、エリシャは預言者たちの学校に仕え続け、困窮者を助け、奇跡を行い、王に助言を与え、神の代弁者として行動しました。

In regard to Elisha being endowed with a double portion of Elijah’s spirit, the following things can be found in the Bible and in biblical scholarship:エリシャがエリヤの霊の二倍の分を授かっていたことに関して、聖書と聖書学には次のようなことが書かれています：

Elijah had a 35-year ministry and Elisha 70-year ministry.エリヤのミニストリーは３５年で、エリシャのミニストリーは７０年であった。

It also seems that the miraculous works of Elisha (15) are double the number performed by Elijah (7).また、エリシャの奇跡の数（１５）は、エリヤの数（７）の倍である。

Elijah raised one person from the dead (1 Kings 17:17) and Elisha two (2 Kings 4:32; 13:20).エリヤは一人を死からよみがえらせ（列王記上17:17）、エリシャは二人をよみがえらせた（列王記上4:32; 13:20）。

Interestingly, one man was raised by the dead body of Elisha (2 Kings 13:20).興味深いことに、エリシャの死体によって一人の人がよみがえった（第二列王13:20）。

Thus, it was a miracle that took place involving Elisha but after his death.したがって、それはエリシャが関与して起こった奇跡でしたが、それは彼の死後でした。

Thus, we see that Elisha received the mantle of God’s blessings to carry on his work as a prophet from Elijah.このように、エリシャはエリヤから神の祝福の外套を受け取り、預言者としての働きを受け継いだのです。

And that work was then passed on and carried on by many other prophets after him.そしてそのはたらきは、彼の後にも多くの預言者達によって受け継がれ、継承されていきました。

Because of time, I cannot go into more of God’s wondrous works carried on through Elisha, such as the healing of Naaman (2 Kings 5).時間の関係で、ナアマンの癒し（列王記下５章）など、エリシャを通して行われた神の不思議な御業について、これ以上、触れることはできません。

I encourage you to go back to read 2 Kings 2-13, where Elisha’s prophetic ministry is recorded.ぜひ、エリシャの預言者としての働きが記録されている列王記下２章から１３章を読み返してください。

Elisha received the mantle from Elijah to carry on the prophetic ministry that was given to him by God.エリシャはエリヤから外套を受け取り、神様から与えられた預言者としての務めを果たしました。

As Christians, we are given a spiritual mantle from Jesus Christ who gives us a measure of authority to be His representatives in this world.クリスチャンとして、私達はイエス・キリストから霊的な外套が与えられています。

2 Corinthians 5:17-21（第二コリント５章１７節—２１節）

¹⁷ Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. ¹⁸ Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, ¹⁹ namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. ²⁰ Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. ²¹ He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. ¹⁷だれでもキリストにあるならば、その人は新しく造られた者である。古いものは過ぎ去った、見よ、すべてが新しくなったのである。¹⁸しかし、すべてこれらの事は、神から出ている。神はキリストによって、わたしたちをご自分に和解させ、かつ和解の務をわたしたちに授けて下さった。¹⁹すなわち、神はキリストにおいて世をご自分に和解させ、その罪過の責任をこれに負わせることをしないで、わたしたちに和解の福音をゆだねられたのである。²⁰神がわたしたちをとおして勧めをなさるのであるから、わたしたちはキリストの使者なのである。そこで、キリストに代って願う、神の和解を受けなさい。²¹神はわたしたちの罪のために、罪を知らないかたを罪とされた。それは、わたしたちが、彼にあって神の義となるためなのである。

We are made new in Christ, and have been given the ministry of reconciliation as His ambassadors.私達はキリストにあって新しくされ、キリストの使者として和解の務めが与えられています。

We are to encourage people to be reconciled to God and be in right relationship with God 私達の罪のために死なれ、死者の中からよみがえられた

by putting their faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins and rose from the dead.イエス・キリストを信じることによって、神と和解し、神と正しい関係になるように人々を励ますのです。

As Christians, we are also given the mantle of the Holy Spirit who gives us spiritual gifts and fruits in order to serve one another and carry on God’s ministry.クリスチャンとして、私達はまた、互いに仕え合い、神のミニストリーを担うために、霊的な賜物と実を与えてくださる聖霊の外套も与えられています。

As Christians, we are all are called to serve and minister in some way.クリスチャンとして、私達は皆、何らかの形で奉仕し、宣教するように召されているのです。

Remember, it is God that gives us this spiritual mantle as his children through faith in Jesus Christ.イエス・キリストを信じる信仰を通して、神の子である私達にこの霊的な外套を与えてくださるのは神様であることを忘れないでください。

At our last small group leaders meeting, we talked about how to raise up leaders in our groups.前回のスモールグループリーダーミーティングでは、グループ内でリーダーを育てる方策について話し合いました。

As a church, we must always be in the mindset of sharing ministry responsibilities with others, 教会として、私達は常にミニストリーの責任を他の人々と分かち合う心構えを持ち、

and pass the spiritual mantle of such responsibilities to the next generation.そのような責任を次の世代に渡すために、霊的外套を彼らに手渡さなければなりません。

The apostle Paul exhorted his spiritual son Timothy to take this to heart.使徒パウロは、霊的な息子であるテモテに、このことを心に留めるよう勧めました。

2 Timothy 2:2（第二テモテ２章２節）

The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. そして、あなたが多くの証人の前でわたしから聞いたことを、さらにほかの者たちにも教えることのできるような忠実な人々に、ゆだねなさい。

I have been a recipient of such blessings and therefore I am serving as a pastor today.　私はそのような祝福を受け、今日、牧師として奉仕しています。

I am encouraged to see how the youth leadership team meets regularly with the youth to disciple them ユースリーダーチームがユースを弟子訓練し、信仰をもって励まし、神に仕え、

and encourage them in their faith and in serving God.ユースと定期的に会っているのを見ると励まされます。

These meetings are about walking alongside of another person and sharing life together in Christ.これらのミーティングは、他の人と共に歩み、キリストにあって共に人生を分かち合うためのものです。

For Elisha that mentor in his life was Elijah.エリシャにとって、その人生の師はエリヤでした。

Do you have such a person in your life?あなたの人生にそのような人はいますか？

Are you such a person in another person’s life?あなたは、他の人の人生においてそのような人ですか？

As Christians, we have received from our Lord Jesus Christ and we are to pass along what we have received to the next generation.クリスチャンとして、私達は主イエス・キリストから受けたものを、次の世代に伝えていかなければなりません。

I would like to share a couple of these things in ending this message.このメッセージの最後に、これらのことをいくつかお話ししたいと思います。

1 Corinthians 15:3-5

³ For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, ⁴ and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, ⁵ and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. ³わたしが最も大事なこととしてあなたがたに伝えたのは、わたし自身も受けたことであった。すなわちキリストが、聖書に書いてあるとおり、わたしたちの罪のために死んだこと、⁴そして葬られたこと、聖書に書いてあるとおり、三日目によみがえったこと、⁵ケパに現れ、次に、十二人に現れたことである。

At the core of what we have received from God is the good news that Christ Jesus has died for our sins, 私達が神から受け取ったものの核心は、キリスト・イエスが私達の罪のために死なれ、

was buried, and rose from the dead.葬られ、死からよみがえられたという良き知らせです。

Without this truth concerning Jesus Christ, we have nothing to pass on to the next generation.イエス・キリストに関するこの真理がなければ、私達は次の世代に伝えるものは何もありません。

1 Corinthians 11:23-26

²³ For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; ²⁴ and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” ²⁵ In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” ²⁶ For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. ²³わたしは、主から受けたことを、また、あなたがたに伝えたのである。すなわち、主イエスは、渡される夜、パンをとり、²⁴感謝してこれをさき、そして言われた、「これはあなたがたのための、わたしのからだである。わたしを記念するため、このように行いなさい」。²⁵食事ののち、杯をも同じようにして言われた、「この杯は、わたしの血による新しい契約である。飲むたびに、わたしの記念として、このように行いなさい」。²⁶だから、あなたがたは、このパンを食し、この杯を飲むごとに、それによって、主がこられる時に至るまで、主の死を告げ知らせるのである。

As we partake of the communion today, let us remember what Jesus Christ has done for us.今日、聖餐式にあずかるにあたり、イエス・キリストが私達のためにしてくださったことを思いお越しましょう。

Let us give thanks to God for the blessings that He has given to us through His Son Jesus Christ.御子イエス・キリストを通して私達に与えてくださった祝福を神様に感謝しましょう。

Let us also give thanks to God for the honor of being able to pass along God’s blessings that we have received to the next generation.また、私達が受けた神様の祝福を次の世代に伝えることができるという栄誉についても、神様に感謝しましょう。

May we continue to run the portion of the race that God has entrusted to each of us to run in the power of the Holy Spirit, and pass the mantle of God’s blessings to the next generation.神様が私達一人ひとりに託されたレースを、聖霊の力によって走り続け、神様の祝福の外套を次の世代に渡すことができますように。

May those who follow after us receive a double portion of God’s blessings in Christ .私達の後に続く者達が、キリストにある神様の祝福を二倍、受け、

and do greater things for God’s kingdom and glory神の王国と栄光のためにより大きなことを行うことができますように。

May they too be able to pass the mantle of God’s blessings to subsequent generations.そして、彼らもまた、神様の祝福の外套を次の世代に渡すことができますように。
