日本のミュージックバンドにSEKAI NO OWARIというバンドがいます。彼らは「サザンカ」という歌を歌っており、その歌詞にこんな一節があります。

『物語の主人公は笑う者達ではない、笑われるほうだ』。

この歌詞を聴きながら、この歌は真理をついているなと思いました。人の歴史はこのことを証明しています。我々の歴史は人を笑う人達によって作られてきたのではなく、嘲笑されたとしても、信念をもち、事を成し続けた人達により、この世界の歴史は紡がれ、保たれてきたのです。

この歌を作った方はまさか、この言葉がイエス・キリストの生涯を言い得ているとは考えもしなかったでしょう。私達が気がつく、気がつかないにかかわらず、この世界の物語の主人公は昔も今も永久に、私達のために笑われてくださった主イエス・キリストなのです・・・。今日はこのキリストゆえに、私達が笑われる喜びについてお話しましょう。

キリストゆえに笑われる喜び
２０２１年１２月１９日

かつて神学校を卒業した私は沖縄から船で６時間、太平洋に浮かぶ小さな島の教会に遣わされました。そこは車を一時間、運転すれば一周できてしまう島です。まだ結婚前の独り身、私はそこで２年２か月、伝道と牧会にあたりました。

そんな島にもクリスマスがやってきました。初めて遣わされた教会での最初のクリスマス、キャンドルライトサービスをしようと思い、町にキャンドルを買いに行きました。しかし、どこに行っても、クリスマスキャンドルは売っていませんでした。

私が見つけることができたのは墓や仏前に灯すために使われる白い小さなローソクだけでした。急遽、東京にいる知人に電話をしてキャンドルを送ってもらいました。キャンドルが島に届いたのはそれから１０日後でした。そのキャンドルと共に教会の兄弟姉妹とキャンドルライトサービスを捧げたことは今でも忘れられない思い出です。

この島は第二次世界大戦後、１９４６年、日本から分離されアメリカの軍政下にはいりました。そして、１９５３年１２月２５日、日本に復帰しました。その日がクリスマスであったゆえに、当時、この復帰は「アメリカから日本へのクリスマスプレゼント」と言われました。

キャンドルライトサービスのちらしを作り、島の家々を回って、配り歩きました。島のおじいちゃんにそのちらしを手渡し、「教会でクリスマスの集会があります」と言うと、おじいちゃんは笑いながら言いました。「あぁ、アメリカさんの正月ねー、ごくろうさん」。

この島ではサトウキビ、テッポウユリ、フリージア、そしてジャガイモを育て、出荷していました。そして、それらに加えて、牛を育て、食肉として本土に出荷していました。

私は時々、信徒の家の牛舎で牛に餌をやり、牛舎の掃除をしました。島の人に牛舎は馴染みのあるものでした。ルカ２章６節から７節、

『ところが、彼らがベツレヘムに滞在している間に、マリヤは月が満ちて、初子を産み、布にくるんで、飼葉おけの中に寝かせた。客間には彼らのいる余地がなかったからである』（ルカ２章６節－７節）

クリスマスには当然、イエス・キリストの誕生を話しました。神が人の姿を取られて、家畜小屋に生まれ、飼い葉桶に寝かされたというお決まりの話です。私達はイエス様が生まれた場所を家畜小屋と呼びますが、島の人が想像するのは彼らの牛小屋です。そこに飛び交う無数のハエと牛糞でまみれた、あの匂いがする場所です。

クリスマスにキリストが家畜小屋で生まれたという話をする度に、聞く度に、私はこの牛舎の光景と匂いを今でも思い起こします。

沈みゆく夕陽や、壮大な自然を前にその背後には大いなるものがいるのではないかと、ふと手を合わせたくなる人がいるでしょう。妻の妊娠を知り、生まれたばかりの我が子を抱きかかえた時、愛する者が命を引き取るような時、この世界には大いなる存在、すなわち神なるものがいるのではないかと思う人は大勢いるでしょう。

しかし、その「神」から悪臭ただよう「家畜小屋」は飛躍しすぎているのです。

思えば、あの「アメリカさんのお正月ね」と言ったおじいちゃんも毎日、牛の世話をしていました。おじいちゃんが笑った理由がちょっと分かったような気がしました。

その島にも春はやってきます。この島はある花の栽培で有名です。春になるとこの島ではテッポウユリが咲き乱れます。このユリは今も海外に輸出されています。最盛期にはアメリカとイギリスに１２００万株が輸出されていました。このユリは海を越え、アメリカ各地の教会にイースターリリーとして飾られていました。

皆さんが幼い時に日本、そしてアメリカの教会で見たイースターリリーはこの島から来たものであったかもしれません。

クリスマス同様、春になると、私はイースター礼拝のちらしをもって島の家々を回りました。キャンドルも見つからないのですから、エッグハンティングをするプラスティックの卵が手に入るはずもなく、私は赤や青で染めたゆで卵を作り、そこに絵を描いて楽しもうと案内を配りました。

イースターの案内を、クリスマスにちらしを渡したおじいちゃんに渡しますと、おじいちゃんは笑いながら言いました。「え、この間、生まれたキリストさんは、もう死んだのかい？そして、よみがえったのかい！」

おじいちゃんは言いました。「春はユリの収穫期、そして毎日の牛の世話、とてもとても死んでよみがえったというキリストさんの話なんて、ゆっくりと聞いていられない、その話は時間のある時に、またしておくれ」と。

その時に思いました。そういえば同じような経験をした男がいたなと。その男、パウロは今から約２０００年前、ギリシアのアテネにあるアレオパゴスの評議所に立ち、アテネの知識人を前にイエス・キリストを宣べ伝えていました。

彼はまず天地万物を造られた神について語り、イエス・キリストについて語り、その最後にキリストの復活について語りました。その時、それを聞いていた者達の反応を使徒行伝はこう記しています。

『死人のよみがえりのことを聞くと、ある者たちはあざ笑い、またある者たちは、「この事については、いずれまた聞くことにする」と言った』（使徒行伝１７章３２節）。

 イエス様はよく人々から笑われたということが聖書には記録されています。イエス様は度々、嘲笑されたのです。

イエス様が十字架にかけられていた時、イエス様は言われました。『父よ、彼らをおゆるしください。彼らは何をしているのか、わからずにいるのです』（ルカ２３章３５節）。この言葉をイエス様が言われた時、十字架の周りにいた者達は何をしていたのでしょうか。どのように反応したのでしょうか。ルカ２３章３４節、３５節、

人々はイエスの着物をくじ引きで分け合った。民衆は立って見ていた。役人たちもあざ笑って言った、「彼は他人を救った。もし彼が神のキリスト、選ばれた者であるなら、自分自身を救うがよい」（ルカ２３章３４節、３５節）。

 その時、人々はイエス様に向かい「他人を救ってきた者が、なぜ自分を救わないのだ。お前が神であるのなら、自分を救ってみろ」と言い、あざ笑いました。

皆さんに幾つかのことをお聞きしたいと思います。あなたは誰かに笑われたことがありますか。あざ笑われたことがありますか。

その時、心に何を感じましたか。悔しい思い、苦々しい思い、怒りがわいてきたのではないでしょうか。もしかしたら、実際にその心の思いをぶちまけて、自分を笑った者達に喰ってかかったという方もいることでしょう。

イエス様はその生涯、何度も笑われました。誰のためでしょうか？

私のため、そしてあなたのためです。

もう一つのことをお聞きします。皆さんには、人から笑われようが、何されようが自分を守ってくれた人、愛してくれた人がいますか？

牧師であった私の母は女手一つで私を育ててくれました。自ら親となり、齢を重ねる度に、母のことが理解できるようになりました。

彼女が私を育ててくれていた時、彼女の日々はがむしゃらな毎日だったと思います。陽がのぼる前から祈りはじめ、陽が暮れるまで自転車で訪問に行き、その合間で家のことをし、必死に私を育ててくれました。

ある時、教会に来ている方が夕方、商店街で自転車に乗る母とすれ違いました。その方は笑いながら言いました「大倉先生は必死に自転車をこいでいて、私が声をかけても全く気がつかずに、私の横をはしり抜けていきました」。皆がどっと笑いました。

今、思います。母は必死だったのでしょう。家にはお腹を空かせた私がいる。ですから、早く帰って夕食の準備をしなくちゃと、ペダルを力強く踏んだのでしょう。このことを思う時に、そこに私は母の愛を感じます。誰に笑われようが私を愛してくれた母の愛です。

イエス・キリストがお生まれになる１０００年も前に詩篇２２篇は、そのキリストがどのような生涯を歩むのかということを預言しました。その詩篇は「わが神、わが神、なにゆえわたしを捨てられるのですか」という言葉で始まります。

キリストはまさしく、この詩篇の言葉をそのまま引用して十字架で語られました。ご自身が十字架にかかることは予め決められていたことだということを明らかにするためです。

そして、その詩篇２２篇は１０００年後に、その十字架の周辺で起こることについても、こう預言したのです。⁷ すべてわたしを見る者は、わたしをあざ笑い、くちびるを突き出し、かしらを振り動かして言う、⁸ 「彼は主に身をゆだねた、主に彼を助けさせよ。主は彼を喜ばれるゆえ、主に彼を救わせよ」と（詩篇２２篇７節、８節）。

 先にお話したように、この預言は成就しました。イエスの十字架の周りで人々は磔になったイエスをあざ笑いました。その人々の嘲笑はいつもイエス・キリストの生涯についてまわったのです。

今日、多くの人にとってイエス様の「誕生」も「復活」もおとぎ話であり、それは笑ってしまうような話に思われます。そして、それは驚くべきことではありません、当のイエス・キリストが目の前にいながらも、人々はイエスを指さして笑ったのですから。

先々週も紹介しましたが、日本のミュージックバンドにSEKAI NO OWARIというバンドがあり、彼らは「サザンカ」という歌を歌っています。

この歌にはユーチューブのプロモーションビデオがあり、そこには二人暮らしをしている、２０代前半と思われる兄と弟が出てきます。兄は絵を描くアーティストを目指して、寝る間を惜しんで来る日も来る日も作品を描き続けます。

しかし、なかなかその作品が評価されることなく、面前で作品が批判されたり、笑われたりということを何度も経験します。兄はもがき苦しみます。その兄の姿を見ている弟は、兄にがんばってもらおうと一生懸命に兄を支え、励まします。しかし、兄の苛立ちは増し、弟が力をつけてもらおうと心をこめて作った夕食を全て、フロアーに投げつけます・・・。

そのビデオは最後に絵の展示会のシーンとなります。そこにいる兄は壁に展示された自分の絵の前で来場者と歓談しています。その壁に飾られた絵はあの時にフロアーに投げつけた、弟が作ってくれた夕食の絵であり、それがついに入賞したのです。

陽の目を見ず、人に笑われ、心が折れそうになりながらも、絵を描き続けてきた兄を見続けてきた弟は、その心の思いをこの一言に込めて、歌います。

『いつだって物語の主人公は笑われるほうだ、人を笑う方じゃない』。

この歌詞を聴きながら、色々なことを思いめぐらしますのなら、この歌は真理をついているなということに気がつかされます。

私達の歴史はこのことを証明しています。我々の歴史は「人を笑う人達」によって作られてきたのではなく、「人に笑われた人達」によって紡がれ、保たれてきました。

そうです、たとえ笑われたとしても、そのことに力を注ぎ続けた人達が、人間の歴史の中心にいたのです。そして、この言葉はまさしくイエス・キリストを指しているのです。

イエス・キリストがあざ笑われた全ての彼の言動には貫かれていることがあります。それは、それらイエス様が笑われた理由は全て、私とあなたへの愛ゆえであったということです。あのヨハネ３章１６節はこう言うこともできるのではないでしょうか。

神はそのひとり子を賜わったほどに、そして、私達のためにあざ笑われることをよしとしてくださるほどに、私達を愛して下さった。それは御子を信じる者がひとりも滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。

今日はフラチームにThe Miracle of Christmasを踊っていただきました。主にある皆さん、クリスマスの「奇跡」はどこにあるのでしょうか。

クリスマスの奇跡は創造主なる神のひとり子が、被造物である人間にあざ笑われる生涯を受け止めて、お生まれくださったところにあるのではないでしょうか。それがクリスマスの奇跡なのではないでしょうか。

『いつだって物語の主人公は笑われるほうだ、人を笑う方じゃない』。

イザヤはイエスが生まれる７５０年も前から、このみどり子が昔も今も、そして永久まで、この世界の主人公であるということをはっきりと語っていたではありませんか。

6 ひとりのみどりごが私たちのために生まれる。ひとりの男の子が私たちに与えられる。主権はその肩にあり、その名は「不思議な助言者、力ある神、永遠の父、平和の君」と呼ばれる。7 その主権は増し加わり、その平和は限りなく、ダビデの王座に就いて、その王国を治め、さばきと正義によってこれを堅く立て、これを支える。今よりとこしえまで。万軍の【主】の熱心がこれを成し遂げる。（イザヤ９章６節―７節）

愛にランクをつけることは難しいと思いますが、あえて愛にランクがあるとするのなら、この世界で最高の愛を私達は何と呼びましょうか。フランシス・チャンという牧師はこの愛を「クレイジーラブ」と呼び、説教をしています。

この愛には損得勘定がなく、私のために人からけなされようが、笑われようが、私のために何かをしようとする、まさしく、その愛はクレイジーだと私達には思われます。

我々のイエス・キリストは私達のためにこのクレイジーラブをその誕生から復活に至るまで全うしてくださいました。神のひとり子がこの世界にお生まれくださった、あの飼葉桶に寝かされた赤子の姿は、そこから始まるキリストの私達に対するクレイジーラブの始まりだったのです。

この愛について私達が深く心に留めるのなら、私達はあることに気がつかされます。それは、私達はいくつになっても、その魂の奥底でこの愛を慕い求めているということです。そんな愛に私達は、今も飢え渇いています。

しかし、私達は同時に疑います。いや、そんなものはこの世界にはないと。そんな日々を過ごしていますと、そんなことすら考えなくなります。求めなくなります。

考えてみましょう。この厳しい世の中、私達がその只中にありながらも、私達が生きていく意味と理由があるとするのなら、それは私達が誰かに愛されているという確かなる自覚であり、そのことを知る時に私達は明日を生きる力が与えられるということを。

その愛をキリストは今も私達に注いでくださっています。

聖書の主人公イエス・キリストは私達を笑うお方ではありませんでした。このお方は私達のために笑われたお方だったのです。

今も人は変わらずイエスを笑います。これからも笑い続けることでしょう。しかし、私達は知っている、変わることのない神の物語はこのイエスを中心に今も動いているということを。この世界はこれまでも、そして、これからも私達のために笑われたイエス・キリストを中心に神の御手の中で続いていくのです。

主にある皆さん、あなたはイエス・キリストを笑う人でしょうか。あなたはキリストが命を捧げた、キリストのからだなる教会を笑う人でしょうか。

あなたはキリストゆえに笑われたことがあるでしょうか。か？あなたはキリストのからだなる教会ゆえに笑われたことがあるでしょうか。

私達のために笑われた主なるイエス・キリストの愛に対して、キリストのために笑われるという生き方を選び取り、その愛に応えたことがありますか？

私達のプライドが邪魔しますか。人の目が気になりますか。損得を計算していますか。

飼葉桶の中に寝かされた神の子の姿に私達は何を見ますか。身ぐるみ剝がされて十字架につけられた神の子の姿に私達は何を見ますか。

我々の主なるイエスが私達のために笑われたのであるのなら、私達がキリストゆえに笑われることこそ、私達の本望であり、喜びではないでしょうか。

神の物語の中心には今も、昔も誰かを笑う者がいるのではない。キリストゆえに笑われる者達が、その中心、イエスと共にいるのです。

あなたは今朝、どこにいますか。飼葉桶に眠る神の子を見て、笑っていますか？あなたもこのキリストの愛と共に、この物語の中心を生きませんか。

The Joy of Being Laughed at Because of Christ

There was a time after graduating from seminary, that I was sent to a church on a small island in the Pacific Ocean, six hours by boat from Okinawa.It’s an island that you can drive around in an hour. As a single man before marriage, I spent two years and two months there doing evangelism and pastoral work.

Even on such an island, Christmas had arrived. On the first Christmas of the first church I was sent to, I decided to have a candlelight service and went to the town to buy candles. However, no matter where I went, there were no Christmas candles for sale.

All I could find were small white candles used to light tombs and Buddhist altars. I hurriedly called an acquaintance in Tokyo and asked him to send me some candles.It was 10 days later that the candles arrived on the island. I still cannot forget the memory of the candles and the candlelight service with the brothers and sisters of the church.

After World War II, the island was separated from Japan in 1946 and came under the military rule of the United States. It reverted to Japan on December 25, 1953. At the time, it was called “a Christmas present from the U.S. to Japan” because it happened on Christmas Day.

I made flyers for the candlelight service and went around the island handing them out. When I handed the flyer to an old man on the island and told him, “There is going to be a Christmas gathering at the church,” he laughed and said, “Oh, it’s the American New Year. I appreciate your efforts.”

On this island, they grew and shipped out sugar cane, lilies, freesia, and potatoes. In addition, they raised cattle and shipped them to the mainland for meat.

I sometimes went to the church member’s barn to feed the cows and clean the barn. The barn was familiar for the islanders. Like Luke 2:6-7,

⁶ While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, ⁷ and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them (Luke 2:6-7 NIV).

At Christmas, of course, I talked about the birth of Jesus Christ. The usual story is that God took human form, was born in a barn for animals, and laid in a manger.

We call the place where Jesus was born a barn for animals, but what the islanders imagine is their own cow barns: that smelly place covered in cow dung with countless flies buzzing around.

I still recall the sights and smells of this place every time I tell or hear the story of Christ being born in a barn for animals at Christmas.

There are people who want to clasp their hands in front of the setting sun, or before something magnificent in nature, wondering if there is something great behind it. When you find out that your wife is pregnant, when you hold your newborn child in your arms, when a loved one is about to die, there are many people who wonder if there is a greater being—a God—in the world.

However, a stinky “barn for animals” is too big of a leap from that “God”.

Come to think of about it, the old man who said, “It’s the American New Year,” was also taking care of cows every day. I felt like I understood why he laughed.

Spring also arrives on that island. The island is famous for the cultivation of certain flowers. In the spring, the island is filled with lilies.

These lilies are still being exported overseas. At its peak, 12 million stocks of lilies were exported to the United States and England. These lilies crossed the ocean and were displayed as Easter lilies in churches across the United States.

The Easter Lilies you saw in churches in Japan and the United States when you were a child may have come from this island.

As with Christmas, in the spring, I went from house to house on the island with flyers for Easter services. Since candles couldn’t be found, there was no way I could get plastic eggs for egg hunting. So I boiled and dyed the eggs red and blue, and handed out invitations to paint on them for fun.

When I handed the Easter invitation to the old man to whom I handed the Christmas flyer to, he laughed and said, “Oh, the Christ who was born the other day has already died? And, has come back to life!”

The old man said, “Spring is the time for harvesting lilies, and I have the cows to take care of daily, I can’t take the time to listen to the story of Christ who died and rose from the dead, so please tell me that story when I have time.”

That’s when it hit me. I remembered that there was a fellow who had a similar experience. That man, Paul, was standing in the council house of the Areopagus in Athens, Greece, about 2000 years ago, preaching Jesus Christ to the intellectuals of Athens.

He spoke first of God, who made heaven and earth, then of Jesus Christ, and finally of His resurrection. The Acts of the Apostles describes the reaction of those who were listening to him at that time.

³² When they heard about the resurrection of the dead, some of them sneered, but others said, “We want to hear you again on this subject.” (Acts 17:32 NIV)

It is recorded in the Bible that Jesus was often laughed at by people. Jesus was often ridiculed.

When Jesus was hanging on the cross, He said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing” (Luke 23:34). What were the people around the cross doing when Jesus said these words? How did they react? Luke 23:34, 35.

And they divided up his clothes by casting lots. The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.” (Luke 23:34,35 NIV)

 At that time, the people turned to Jesus and said, “If you have saved others, why don’t you save yourself? If you are God, then save yourself,” and mocked him.

I would like to ask you a few questions. Have you ever been laughed at by someone? Have you ever been mocked? What did you feel in your heart at that time? Perhaps you may have felt frustration, bitterness, or anger.

Perhaps some of you may have actually vented out what was in your heart, and taken a shot at those who laughed at you. During Jesus’ lifetime, He was laughed at many times. Who was it for?

It was for me and for you.

Let me ask you another thing. Have you had someone protect you and love you, no matter what was done to them, or was laughed at by people?

My mother, who was a pastor, raised me by herself. As I became a parent, and as I grew older, I began to understand my mother better.

When she was raising me, I think her days were frantic. She started praying before the sun came up, rode her bicycle to do visitations until the sun went down, and in between she worked at home, and did her best to raise me.

One day, a church-goer passed by my mother who was riding her bicycle in the evening through the street market. He laughed and said, “Okura-sensei was riding her bike so hard, she didn’t even notice me when I called out to her, and she just brushed past me.” Everyone burst into laughter.

I think about it now. My mother must have been desperate. At home was a hungry me.  So, she must have pedaled hard to get home quickly to prepare dinner. When I think about this, I feel my mother’s love. It is the love of a mother who loved me no matter who laughed at her.

A thousand years before the birth of Jesus Christ, Psalm 22 prophesied about the life of the Christ. The psalm begins with the words, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

Christ quoted the very words of the Psalm as He spoke on the cross. To make it clear that His crucifixion was predetermined. And that Psalm 22 also prophesied about what would happen around that cross 1000 years later.

⁷ All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads. ⁸ “He trusts in the Lord,” they say, “let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him.” (Psalm 22:7,8 NIV)

As I mentioned earlier, this prophecy was fulfilled. Around the cross of Jesus, people mocked Him as He was crucified. The mockery of the people always followed the life of Jesus Christ.

For many people today, both the “birth” and “resurrection” of Jesus are fairy tales, and they seem like laughable stories. And that’s not surprising, because people pointed and laughed at Jesus Christ even though he was right in front of them.

As I mentioned the other week, there is a Japanese music band called SEKAI NO OWARI, and they sing a song called “Sazanka”.

There is a YouTube promotional video for this song that shows an older brother and younger brother, who seem to be in their early twenties, living together. The older brother is trying to become an artist and spends all his time painting, day in and day out.

However, his work does not get recognized for a long time, and many times he experiences criticism of his work and being laughed at in his face. The older brother struggles and suffers. Seeing his brother struggling, the younger brother tries his best to support and encourage him.

However, the older brother’s frustration increases, and he throws the whole dinner to the floor that the younger brother had worked hard to prepare to encourage him . . .

The video ends with a scene from a painting exhibition. The older brother is there chatting with visitors in front of his painting on the wall. The painting on the wall is a painting of the dinner his younger brother made for him, which he threw on the floor at that time, and it finally won a prize.

The younger brother who had been watching his older brother paint despite not seeing the light of day, being laughed at by others, and feeling like his heart was about to break, put the thoughts of his heart into these words and sings.

“The hero of the story is always the one who is laughed at, not the one who laughs at others.”

If you listen to these lyrics and think about many things, you will realize that this song is true.

Our history is proof of this. Our history has not been created by “people laughing at people,” but it has revolved and was maintained by “people laughed at by people”.

Yes, there were people at the center of human history who continued to put their energy into their effort, even if they were laughed at. And these very words point to Jesus Christ.

There is one thing that runs through all of his words and actions that Jesus Christ has been mocked for.

The reason why he was laughed at was because of his love for you and me. That verse, John 3:16, could be put this way.

God loved us so much that he gave his only begotten Son, and he was willing to be mocked for us. So that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Today we had the hula team dance “The Miracle of Christmas.” To all of you in the Lord, where is the “miracle” of Christmas? Isn’t the miracle of Christmas that the only begotten Son of the Creator-God accepted the fact that He would live a lifetime of being mocked by people—His own creation?  Isn’t that the miracle of Christmas?

“The hero of the story is always the one who is laughed at, not the one who laughs at others.”

Isaiah made it clear 750 years before Jesus was born, that this Child was, is, and forever will be, the hero of this world.

6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this (Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV).

It is difficult to rank love, but if we dare to rank love, what shall we call the best love in this world? Pastor Francis Chan calls this love “crazy love” in his sermons. There is no profit-or-loss evaluation in this love, but it is willing to do anything for me—even if it means being ridiculed or laughed at by others. Indeed, this love seems crazy to us.

Our Jesus Christ has fulfilled this crazy love for us from His birth to His resurrection. The birth of God’s only begotten Son into the world—as a newborn lying in a manger—was the beginning of Christ’s crazy love for us.

If we are deeply mindful of this love, we are reminded of something. No matter how old we are, deep down in our souls, we still long for this love. We are still hungry and thirsty for such love.

But we may also doubt: there is no such thing in this world. When we spend our days like that, we don’t even think about it; we stop seeking after it.

Let’s think about this. If there is any meaning and a reason to live in this harsh world, it is the certain awareness that we are loved by someone; and when we know that, we are given the strength to live for tomorrow.

Christ is still pouring out that love upon on us.

Jesus Christ, the hero of the Bible, was not the One who laughed at us. He was the One who was laughed at for us. Even now, people still laugh at Jesus. They will continue to laugh. However, we know that the unchanging story of God still revolves around this Jesus.

This world has been and will continue to be in God’s hands, centered on Jesus Christ, who was laughed at for us.

Dear friends in the Lord, are you a person who laughs at Jesus Christ? Are you a person who laughs at the Church—the Body of Christ—which Christ gave His life for?

Have you ever been laughed at because of Christ? Have you ever been laughed at because of the Church, the Body of Christ?

Have you ever responded to the love of the Lord Jesus Christ, who was laughed at for us? Have you chosen to live a life of being laughed at for Christ’s sake?

Do we let our pride get in the way? Are we concerned about what others think? Are we calculating our “profit and loss”?

What do we see in the image of the Son of God lying in a manger? What do we see in the image of the Son of God who was stripped and crucified?

If our Lord Jesus was laughed at for us, isn’t it our true desire and joy that we should be laughed at because of Christ?

Neither now nor in the past is a person who laughs at someone the center of God’s story. It is those who are laughed at because of Christ who are at the center of it, together with Jesus.

Where are you this morning? Are you laughing as you see the Son of God lying in a manger? Won’t you abide at the center of this story with the love of this Christ?

３）使徒行伝１７章３２節を読みましょう。パウロがアテネでキリストの復活について語りますと、それを聞いていた者達はあざ笑いました。イエス様が死んでよみがえったということ対して今日、人はどんな反応をしますか。

 

４）ルカ２３章３４節、３５節を読みましょう。イエス様の十字架のまわりにいる者達はイエス様をあざ笑いました。イエス・キリストが私達の罪のために十字架におかかりになったということに対して今日、人はどんな反応をしますか。

 

５）イエス様が十字架にかけられ、あざ笑われるということは、そのことが起こる１０００年前に詩篇２２篇に預言されていました（詩篇２２篇７節、８節）。このことは、イエス様はその誕生前から、この地上での生涯がどうなるのかということを承知して、この世界に来てくださったことを意味しています。その誕生、十字架、復活においてイエス様が笑われたのは私達のためであったという事実をあなたはどのように受け止めますか。

 

６）あなたが人からあざ笑われる時、あなたの心にはどんな思いが起こりますか。人から笑われようが、何を言われようが、あなたを愛してくれたという人があなたにいますか？

 

７）『いつだって物語の主人公は笑われるほうだ、人を笑う方じゃない』という言葉は、どんなところで見受けられますか。

 

８）イザヤはイエスが生まれる７５０年も前から、このみどり子が昔も今も、そして永久まで、この世界の主人公であるということをはっきりと語っていました（イザヤ９章６節―７節）。このことはあなたにどんな確信を与えられますか。

 

９）イエス・キリストは私達のためにあざ笑われることをよしとしてくださいました。私達はキリストのためにどう生きるべきでしょうか。
