『主をおそれることは知識のはじめである』（箴言１章７節）。
誰かが皆さんに車をくれたとしましょう。あなたの手にその車の鍵が手渡されます。その時に「この車はブレーキは効きませんので気をつけて」と言われたら、皆さんはその車を運転しますか。誰がそんな車に乗りますか。
もし私達が「神を畏れる」ことを知らないのなら、どんなに多くの知識を得たとしても、それはいつ暴走するか分からない、ブレーキの効かない車に乗っているようなものです。
ブレーキの効かない車に乗ろうとは思わない私達。それなら私達の人生はいかがでしょうか。何が私達の人生に歯止めをかけていますか。私達の周りにはこのことに臨んで惨敗した知性と自制心がいたるところに転がっているように思えるのです。

ブレーキの効かない車を運転しますか？

先週、私は伝道の書７章１６節から「知らない」と言える喜びについてお話ししました。
16あなたは義に過ぎてはならない。また賢きに過ぎてはならない。あなたはどうして自分を滅ぼしてよかろうか（伝道の書７章１６節）
この書は神様から比類なき知恵をいただいたイスラエルの三代目の王でありましたソロモンが記したものであり、彼は比類なき賢者でした。そして、彼は神の前においては無知であることを自覚していたとお話ししました。 今日は私達の知恵について、さらにとても大切なことをお話ししたいと思います。
最近、日本の成人年齢が２０歳から１８歳へと変更されたというニュースを読みました。自国民をいくつから成人とするかということは、それぞれの国によって違います。
聖書の民でありますユダヤ人は男の子が１３歳になると「バル・ミツワー」、女の子は１２歳になるとバト・ミツワーという成人式を行います。ユダヤ人にとりまして、この時のために親は貯金をしておくほどに、このセレモニーは大切で、家族のみならず、親戚や知人もこれに立ち会い、盛大に祝われると言います。
ある本を読んでいましたら、その記念すべき時に、子供に与えられるギフトは、まず「聖書」であり、また「腕時計」のような身につけるもの、そして「祝儀」だと書かれていました。
その子は神が自分に与えている人生を「聖書」を土台として建てあげることが望まれます。 「時計」はその子に与えられている人生には限りがあることを示します。「祝儀」はそのまま銀行に預けられ、学業を終えて独立する時に使われるといいます。
「聖書」と「時計」と「祝儀」が贈られることによって、あなたが出て行く厳しい現実世界において、聖書という人生のガイドライン、そして時間と資金を用いて実社会で生きていきなさいというのです。
このところに彼らが長い間、迫害を受け、ディアスポラ、すなわち離散の民であり、見知らぬ世界の国々の厳しい現実に向かい合い続けたユダヤ民族の一面があります。明日、財産を置いたまま、着の身着のまま、ここを出て行かなければならないような歴史を繰り返した彼らが得たことは「時間」だけは誰にも平等に与えられているものであるということでした。
また奪われることなく、持ち運ぶ必要もない心に蓄えた聖書の言葉があるのなら、いかなる所に導かれてもそこで生きていくことができる、いいや、ただ生きるだけではなく、その行った先々で繁栄を得てきたという民族の歴史があります。
状況は違いますが、新しい年に踏み出した私達にも誰にも奪われない時間と聖書の言葉があります。この一年、この二つを大切に用いていく者となりたいものです。
今日、ユダヤ人が最も大切にした教育の大切さを否定する人はいないでしょう。知識を得ることを否定する人はいないでしょう。しかし、この知識というのは両刃の剣で、人はこの知識をもって善を成すこともできれば、この知識と共に邪悪なことをなすこともできるのです。
知識はその人の生きる力となります。消防自動車のホースから放出される水の水圧はとても強く、その水圧が燃え盛る火を消します。しかし一度、ホースを手から離してしまうとホースはまるで暴れまわる龍のように凶器となり、周りにいる者をなぎ倒し、ことごとく周りにあるものを破壊してしまい、それを押さえ込むことは大変なことなのだということを聞いたことあります。
私達の知識や知恵にも同じことが言えます。私達が見ております「伝道の書」ですが、ソロモンはこの書と並んで「箴言」という知恵の書を書いています。この書は何かの出来事や物語というよりも、私達が日々の現実社会を生きるために必要な知恵と教訓が箇条書きに書き記されています。
その知恵の書を書き進めるにあたり、ソロモンはまず知恵について大前提を書いています。『主をおそれることは知識のはじめである』（箴言１章７節）。
ソロモンは箴言をこのように書き始め、そして伝道の書の一番最後を、このよう言葉で締めくくり、それを全てのことの結論としました。
「事の帰する所は、すべて言われた。すなわち、神を恐れ、その命令を守れ。これはすべての人の本分である。神はすべてのわざ、ならびにすべての隠れた事を善悪ともにさばかれるからである」（伝道１２章１３節，１４節）
ソロモンは知恵というものは神を畏れることから始まり、その神を畏れ、その言葉に従うことが私の人生の結論だとまで言い切っているのです。
ここで一つ、説明させていただきますが、このおそれは「怖い」というような恐怖というよりも、畏怖の念からくる畏れとした方が分かりやすいかと思います。
２０２２年、この時代を生きるにあたり、私達は今、このソロモンの言葉と共に、今年を生きる、否、これからの人生を生きる大前提を前に立っています。ソロモンにとりまして、ユダヤ人にとりまして、このことは「現実生活」に即した生きる術なのです。
神様はソロモンに他の人が持ち得ないような豊かな知恵を与えられました。これらのことが列王記上三章に記されています。
12見よ、わたしはあなたの言葉にしたがって、賢い、英明な心を与える。あなたの先にはあなたに並ぶ者がなく、あなたの後にもあなたに並ぶ者は起らないであろう。13わたしはまたあなたの求めないもの、すなわち富と誉をもあなたに与える。あなたの生きているかぎり、王たちのうちにあなたに並ぶ者はないであろう（列王記上３章１２節-１３節）。
彼は与えられた知恵を用いて誰も追随を許さない名声と財を得ました。しかし、彼はつまづいたのです。
聖書はこのようなことにおいて隠し立てを一切しません。この人は人生一貫して実に偉大な神の人であったというような人は聖書の中には、ほとんど見当たりません。
ソロモンもその例外ではなく、彼にも問題がありました。その中の一つに彼はあまりにも多くの女性を各国から集め、彼女たちを自分の妻とし、自分の妾としたということがありました。
彼女達は各地からその土地にあった異教の神々をイスラエルに持ち込み、ソロモンはそれを容認し、このことが根本的な原因となりイスラエルは二つの国に分裂していきました。
最近、自分の年齢ということもあるでしょうが、「５０代になった時の心構え」をテーマとした本を何冊か読みました。その中の一つに斉藤孝さんという明治大学教授が書いた本がありまして、彼の書いた一節に目が留まり、力を込めて赤線を引き、肝に銘じました。そこにはこう書かれていました。
『普通の５５歳の男性を好きな人なんて一人もいないと自覚していたほうが間違いありません』（『５５歳からの時間管理術』NHK出版新書）
賛否両論あるでしょうが、私には非常に説得力のある言葉であり、心に刻みました。斎藤先生は実に大切なことを書いてくれたと感謝しました。
それでは、なぜソロモンの周りに多くの女性が集まってきたのでしょうか。答えは簡単、彼が普通の男ではなかったからです。
頭脳明晰、類まれなリーダーシップ、国のトップとあれば、当時の世界において、彼は何でも自分の欲するものを手に入れたことでしょう。彼に物を申す人はいないのです。他国の王が彼の知識と富に目を見張っていたのです。
しかし、その時に彼は人間にとって最も大切なことを忘れていました。その時、彼は神を畏れることを見失っていたのです。おそらく箴言も伝道の書も、このことに対する自らの深い内省を経て、書かれたものであったのではないかと私は想像します。深い後悔と共に「私のしてしまった過ちは繰り返すな」というような思いで彼はこれらの書を書いたのかもしれません。
イエス・キリストには１２弟子がいました。まさしく普通は「選ばないだろう」というような荒削りの男達をイエス様は選びました。彼らは聖書の言葉によれば無学なただの男達でした（使徒行伝４章１３節）。
しかし、その中であえて一番、賢明であった人をあげるとしますのなら、それはユダでした。彼は数字に長けており、それゆえ彼は弟子達の中で会計をしていました。ユダはお金のことをよく知っていました。しかし、それで彼が会計にふさわしいということではなかったのです。
今のような銀行というものがなかった時代、彼はきっと現金を持ち歩いていたのかもしれません。聖書は彼がそのお金に対して不正をしていたと記しています。そして、最後にはイエスを銀貨３０枚で裏切り売り渡したのです。
私達はよく詐欺まがいのメールや電話を受けます。そこには巧妙な手口が多くの人が騙されます。あの巧妙な手口はそれなりの知識がないとできないものです。私達がそれを信じてしまうほどにそれはよくできているのです。知識はいくらでも悪用することができるのです。
私達の人生には色々な試みや誘惑があります。それは、しばしば「私達にささやかれる内なる言葉」です。その時、あなたの心を知る者はおらず、ばれることはないと思われます。
しかし、見つかったら大変なことになる。家庭を失うかもしれないし、鉄格子の中に暮らさなければならないということもあり得ることです。そのような時に私達は、何をもってその危機を乗り越えることができるのでしょうか。理性に頼るのでしょうか。自制心に頼るのでしょうか。
ご存知でしょうか、私達、人間社会は「誘惑」や「試み」の前で敗北していったおびただしい数の「理性」と「自制心」という残骸があちこちに転がっているということを。
過去に起きた古代文明はことごとくその姿を失いました。今、私達の前にあるものは、かつて栄えただろうと想像される朽ち果てた遺跡だけです。 なぜその文明は滅びたのか。歴史学者が指摘することによれば、それは「人の心の慢心」だったといいます。
慢心とは「自分の才能や能力、あるいは地位などについてその実際よりもさらに優れていると自分で思い上がること」です。すなわち、その時に神はその心になく、ましてや神を畏れるという思いはありません。
それほど遠い昔ではない時、人間世界には未来に対して楽観的な思いがいきわたっていました。産業や経済が目まぐるしく発展した時代です。
その時、人が信じて疑わずにいたことは「我々は知性と理性をもってこの世界をより良きものとすることができる」ということでした。しかし、いかがでしょうか、今、このことを口にしている人はいますか。
ソロモンはこの現実を知り尽くしていたのでしょう。ですから、彼は知恵をもてと言いつつ、その知恵は神を畏れることから始めなければならないと言ったのです。そして、そのことこそが人の全てだと言ったのです。そんなソロモンは伝道の書でさらなる洞察力をもって、このようなことも記しています。
「見よ、わたしが得たことは、ただこれだけである。すなわち、神は人を正しい者に造られたけれども、人は多くの計略を考え出したことである」（伝道の書７章２９節）
この「正しい者」という旧約聖書の言葉の原語、ヘブル語は「ヤシャル」という言葉で、それは「単純、率直、素直、まっすぐ」という意味があります。私達は本来、単純に神を畏れる者として作られたのです。
しかし、人は神を畏れることを忘れ、多くの計略を考え出したのです。神を畏れることなくして計略が一人歩きする時に、私達は多くの問題を抱えるのです。
先週は幼子の心についてお話ししましたが、マタイ１８章１節ー４節にこのようなことが書かれています。1そのとき、弟子たちがイエスのもとにきて言った、「いったい、天国ではだれがいちばん偉いのですか」。2すると、イエスは幼な子を呼び寄せ、彼らのまん中に立たせて言われた、3「よく聞きなさい。心をいれかえて幼な子のようにならなければ、天国にはいることはできないであろう。4この幼な子のように自分を低くする者が、天国でいちばん偉いのである（マタイ１８章１節―４節）。
なぜにイエス様はここで天国で一番偉い者なのかという問いに対して幼子をあげ、心を入れかえて幼子のようにならなければと言われたのでしょうか。 なぜなら、幼子こそ、まさしく「単純、率直、素直、なっすぐ」だからです。
ある聖書は先の「計略」を「複雑な考え方」と記しています。私達の社会はこのような複雑な考えをすることを立派だと評価する傾向があります。しかし、聖書はそうではなく、単純な素直な生き方、すなわち神を畏れるということこそが大切で、それこそが知恵のあらわれであり、そのような者が天国に入るのだというのです。
若い時に聞いた話が忘れられません。「世界に出た時には自分が「無神論者」であると公言する時には注意をするように」本ではそのことは理性的で現代的な印象を植えつけるかもしれない。
しかし一歩、日本の外に出たら、「無神論者であることを主張することは、イコールあなたには畏れるものがないのか、それならあなたは自分の欲望をどのように制御するのかということを意味することになるのだ」と言われ、このことを心に刻んたことを覚えています。
あれから３０年を経た現代社会で「神をおそれよ」という言葉を私達はどれだけ耳にするでしょうか。ニュースや新聞ではまずお目にかかれません。家庭の食卓で話しますか。教会ではどうでしょうか。教会に神に対するおそれがあるでしょうか。
この国には自らの心の鬱憤を神という言葉を使って吐き出す人達がいます。私の子供達は今、接客するアルバイトをしていますが、時々、夕食の時に今日、聞いたお客の暴言というものが話題になります。
そのようなことがごく稀にあるのではなく、日常的にあるというのです。ここでは言えないような言動を見聞きするというのです。その時、その人達の心に神を畏れる思いはありません。もしわが子がそのような言葉を言うのなら必ずやめさせます。
なぜなら、その言葉を日々使うことにより、神への畏れは失われ、彼らはいつかとんでもないことをしでかすでしょう。
誰かが皆さんに車をくれたとしましょう。あなたの手にその車の鍵が手渡されます。その時に「この車はブレーキは効きませんので気をつけて」と言われたら、皆さんはその車を運転しますか。誰がそんな車に乗りますか。
もし私達が「神を畏れる」ことを知らないのなら、どんなに多くの知識を得たとしても、それはいつ暴走するか分からない、ブレーキの効かない車に乗っているようなものです。ブレーキの効かない車に乗ろうとは思わない私達。それなら私達の人生はいかがでしょうか。何があなたの人生に歯止めをかけていますか。
よくよく心に手を当てて考えれば、このことは放っておいていいトピックではないように思われるのですが、皆さんはどう思いますか。私達はあと数か月で二年となるコロナパンデミックに翻弄されながら、ここまできました。
この年月は私達のライフスタイルを変え、それゆえに皆さんの価値観というものも改めて問われているのではないでしょうか。もしかしたら、今や私のそれは白紙の状態ですという方いませんか。これからどう生きていけばいいのかと途方に暮れている方、いませんか。
スーパーカーに乗っていてもシートベルをしていなければ大きな怪我を負うのです。 知識と経験があっても神を畏れなければ後に大変な現実に向き合わなければならなくなるのです。もし、そんな皆さんがいらっしゃるのなら、このことを心に留めませんか。
かつて富と名誉を独り占めにしたような王がいた。その彼が自らの人生を振り返った時に言うのには、全ての知恵、知識の先にはまず神を畏れるということがなければならない。
コロナ以前、神を畏れることなど考えたこともなかったという方がおりましたら、このコロナを通して、神を畏れて生きる人生を歩みませんか。それはあなたを守ってくれます。
そして、神を畏れるということはそれだけで終わらないのです。この件についてはまだ聖書からお話しすべきことがあります。それは神を畏れることにより、私達が天の父なる神から直々にいただく祝福です。そのことについてはまた来週、お話ししたいと思います。どうかお聞き逃しのないように。

Last week I spoke about the joy of being able to say, “I don’t know,” from Ecclesiastes 7:16.
Do not be excessively righteous and do not be overly wise. Why should you ruin yourself? (Ecclesiastes 7:16 NASB1995)
This book was written by Solomon, the third king of Israel. He received special wisdom from God and was regarded as an exceptionally wise man. And I told you that he was aware that he was ignorant before God. Today I would like to talk about something even more important about our wisdom.
Recently, I read in the news that the age of adulthood in Japan has been changed from 20 to 18. The age of adulthood is different in each country.
Jews hold a coming-of-age ceremony called “bar mitzvah” when a boy turns 13 and “bat mitzvah” when a girl turns 12. This ceremony is so important that parents save money for this occasion, and is celebrated in a big way with not only family members but also with relatives and acquaintances.
I read from a book that the first gift given to a child at a memorable time is a Bible, something to wear like a watch, and a handsel. It is hoped that the child will build the life that God has for him on the foundation of the Bible.
The “watch” symbolizes that the life the child has is limited. The “handsel” is said to be deposited in the bank to be used when he finishes his studies and starts his own business.
These gifts are to help you live in the harsh real world: the Bible as a guideline for life; time and money as resources.
This is one aspect of the Jewish people where they have been persecuted for a long time, living in as diaspora, or a displaced people, facing the harsh realities at foreign nations.
After repeated experiences of having to leave their place with their limited possessions on a short notice, they learned that time is the only thing that is given to everyone equally.
And if you have the words of the Bible stored in your heart, which cannot be taken away, you can live anywhere you are led. Not simply to live, but there is a history of prosperity wherever this nation went. Although our circumstances are different, as we step into a new year, we also have time and the words of the Bible that no one can take away from us. We want to carefully use these two things in the coming year.
Today, no one would deny how Jewish people valued the education. No one would deny the importance of gaining knowledge. But knowledge is a double-edged sword, and one can do good with it, or one can do evil with it.
Knowledge can become a person’s power to live. The water pressure from a fire truck hose is so strong that it can put out a burning fire. However, I have heard that once the hose is removed from the hand, it becomes a deadly weapon like a rampaging dragon,
knocking down those around it and destroying everything around it, and it is very difficult to control it.
The same can be said for our knowledge and wisdom. Along with the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon also wrote a book of wisdom called Proverbs. This book is not an event or a story, but rather a bullet point list of wisdom and lessons that we need to live in the real world.
In writing the Book of Wisdom, Solomon begins with a basic premise about wisdom.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7 NASB 1995).
Solomon began the book of Proverbs in this way, and then ended the book of Ecclesiastes with these words, making it the conclusion of all things.
13 The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. 14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 NASB 1995)
Solomon goes so far as to say that wisdom begins with the fear of God, and that the fear of God and obedience to his word is the conclusion of his life. One thing I would like to explain is that this “fear” is not so much to be afraid as it is a feeling of reverence.
We are now standing in front of the basic premise of living this year, or rather the remaining life, with the words of Solomon. For Solomon, and for the Jews, this is the art of living “real life”.
God gave Solomon a wealth of wisdom that no other man could have. These things are recorded in 1 Kings 3.
12 behold, I have done according to your words. Behold, I have given you a wise and discerning heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, nor shall one like you arise after you. 13 I have also given you what you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there will not be any among the kings like you all your days. (1 Kings 3:12-13 NASB 1995)
He used the wisdom he was given to gain unrivaled fame and fortune. But he was tripped up. The Bible makes no secret of this. There are very few people in the Bible whose lives have been consistently great men of God.
Solomon was no exception, and he had his problems. One of them was that he gathered too many women from different countries and took them as his wives and concubines.
They brought pagan gods from all over the land into Israel, and Solomon tolerated it. This later became the root cause of the division of Israel into two nations.
Recently, partly because of my age, I have read several books on the theme of “how to prepare yourself when you reach your fifties. One of the books was written by Takashi Saito, a professor at Meiji University. A passage in the book caught my attention, so I marked it with a red line with all my might and made a mental note of it. This is what was written.
“You should definitely be aware that no one likes a normal 55-year-old man”.
Not everyone may agree with this, but to me it was very convincing and I took it to heart. I thanked Saito-sensei for writing something really important.
So why did so many women gather around Solomon? The answer is simple: because he was not an ordinary man. With a brilliant mind, unparalleled leadership, and a head of state, he would have gotten whatever he wanted in the world at that time.
There was no one to argue against him. The kings of other countries looked up to his knowledge and wealth. But then he forgot the most important thing for human beings. He lost sight of the fear of God.
I imagine that both Proverbs and Ecclesiastes were probably written through his own deep reflection on this matter. He may have written these books with deep regret and a desire to not repeat the mistakes he had made.
Jesus Christ had 12 disciples. Jesus chose men who were rough around the edges, kind of men you would not normally “choose “. They were, according to the words of the Bible, uneducated ordinary men (Acts 4:13).
However, if I had to pick one person who was the wisest of them all, it would be Judas. He was good with numbers, and that is why he was the treasurer among the disciples. Judas knew a lot about money. But that didn’t mean that he was fit to be treasurer.
In the days when there were no banks like we have today, he probably carried cash around with him. The Bible tells us that he was dishonest with the money. In the end, he betrayed and sold Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.
We often receive fraudulent emails and phone calls. Many people are fooled by the cleverness of these scams. The trick is that you have to have a certain amount of knowledge to pull it off. We believe the scam because it is so well crafted. Knowledge can be abused to any extent.
There are many trials and temptations in our lives. It is often the “inner word that is whispered to us”. At the time, we think that no one will know your heart and it is unlikely that others will find out.
But if you are caught, you will be in serious trouble. You may lose your home, or you may have to live behind bars. In such a situation, what can we do to overcome the crisis? Do we rely on reason? Or do we rely on self-control?
Do you know that we, human society, have a lot of wreckage of “reason” and “self-control” lying around, defeated in the face of “temptation” and “trial”?
The ancient civilizations of the past have all but disappeared. All that we see now are decaying ruins that we imagine once flourished. Why did these civilizations fall? Historians point out that “the pride of the human heart” was the cause.
Pride can be defined as the preconception that one’s talents, abilities, or position are even better than they really are. In other words, when pride is at work in a person, God is not that person’s mind, much less the fear of God.
Not too long ago, our future seemed to be full of optimism. That was during the time of rapid industrial and economic development. At that time, people believed and had no doubt that human intellect and reasoning can help us make this world a better place.
But, is that true anymore? Do we still find people who still believe so?
Solomon must have been well aware of this reality. That is why he told them to have wisdom, and that wisdom begins with the fear of God.Solomon said that that was the most important thing that a person could have. In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon also wrote this with further insight.
29 Behold, I have found only this, that God made men upright, but they have sought out many devices. (Ecclesiastes 7:29 NASB 1995)
The original Hebrew word for this Old Testament word for “righteous one” is the word “yashar,” which means “simple, straightforward, honest, and upright. We were originally created as people who simply feared God.
However, we forgot what it means to fear God and started coming up with a lot of our own plans instead. When we don’t fear God and let our plans run wild, we get into a lot of trouble.
Last week we talked about having the heart of a child. It is written Matthew 18:1-4.
18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and said, “Who then is greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2 And He called a child to Himself and set him before them, 3 and said, “Truly I say to you, unless you are converted and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of eaven. 4 Whoever then humbles himself as this child, he is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:1-4 NASB 1995)
Why did Jesus mention a little child in response to the question of who is the greatest in heaven, and why did He say that we should change our minds and become like little children? This is because children are truly “simple, straightforward, honest, and straightforward” beings.
Some Bibles refer to human “plans” as “complex thinking”. Our society tends to value this kind of complex thinking as admirable. But the Bible says that it is the simple and honest way of life, the fear of God, that is important. Fear of God is the ultimate manifestation of wisdom, and those who do so are the ones who will enter heaven.
I’ll never forget something I heard when I was young. It was “When you go out into the world, be careful about professing to be an atheist. In Japan, people may view you as being a rational and modern person.
However, once I stepped outside of Japan, I remember being told that “if you claim to be an atheist, people will view you as having nothing to fear, and will be watching how you control your desires.” I took this message to heart.
Thirty years have passed since then, and I wonder how many times we hear the words, “Fear God” in today’s society. We rarely see it in the news or newspapers. Do we talk about it at the family dinner table? How about in the church? Is there fear of God in the church?
There are people in this country who use the word “God” to vent out their inner resentment.
My children are now working part-time in customer service, and sometimes at dinner they talk about a customer’s outburst that they heard today. It’s not a rare occurrence, but a regular occurrence. My children are seeing and hearing things that I cannot say in this place.
There is no fear of God in the hearts of people who lash out towards others. If my children say such words, I will be quick to stop them. That is because if they keep on using those words everyday, they will lose the fear of God, and will probably end up doing something terrible one day.
Let’s say someone gives you a car. You are handed the keys to the car. Would you drive the car if you were told, “Be careful, the brakes don’t work on this car”? No one would drive such a car.
If we don’t know the “fear of God,” no matter how much knowledge we have, it is like driving a car with no brakes, which can go out of control at any moment. We don’t want to drive a car that has no brakes. Then what about our life? What in your life is serving as brakes?
If you really think about it, this question should not be left unanswered. Would you agree? In a few months, we will mark two years since our lives have been forever changed due to the Corona pandemic.
These years have changed our lifestyles, and many of us are reevaluating our values once again. Is there anyone who says, “My values are now a blank slate? Are any of you at a loss as to what to do with your life?
If you drive a racing car and don’t wear a seatbelt, you will be seriously injured.If you are one of them, why don’t you take this to heart?
There was once a king who hoarded wealth and honor all to himself. When he looked back on his life, he said, “Before all wisdom and knowledge, there must first be the fear of God.
If you never thought about fearing God before this pandemic, why don’t you consider living your life in the fear of God? It will protect you. And the fear of God doesn’t end there. There is more to tell you about this from the Bible.
It is the blessings we receive directly from our Heavenly Father through the fear of God. We’ll talk about that next week.

１）ユダヤ人が子供の成人の祝いに「聖書」「時計」「祝儀」を贈ることから、彼らのどんな信仰の姿勢が分かりますか。あなたの信仰は日曜日の朝だけのものですか。現実生活の中にどのように信仰がいかされていますか。
２）知識はとても大切なものです。しかし、そこにはどんな危険が潜んでいますか。
３）ソロモンは『主をおそれることは知識のはじめである』（箴言１章７節）と箴言の冒頭に書き、伝道の書の結論として「神をおそれ、その命令を守れ。これは全ての人の本文である」と言いました（伝道の書１２章１３節）。彼はなぜ、これほどまでに「神をおそれる」ことを訴えているのでしょうか。
４）あなたは神を畏れていますか。そこから私達はどんな日々の言動へと導かれますか。
５）ソロモンは比類なき財産と知恵により、多くの女性を自らの傍らに置き、彼女達がイスラエルに持ち込んだ神々を黙認した故に、イスラエルは分裂へと導かれていきます。その時に彼は何に関心をもち、何に欠けていましたか。
６）私達の周りには、神を畏れないゆえに起こるどんな悲劇がありますか。それは他人ごとですか？私達の知性、理性、そして自制心はどれだけ頼りになりますか？
７）伝道の書７章２９節には「見よ、わたしが得たことは、ただこれだけである。すなわち、神は人を正しい者に造られたけれども、人は多くの計略を考え出したことである」と書かれています。この言葉は人の考え出した計略が、私達の問題を生み出しているということを暗示しています。なぜ、私達の計略には問題が潜んでいるのでしょうか。
８）今日の御言葉によると神を畏れて生きるということは、全てのものに優って私達が心に刻む人生の大前提です。このことを心にとめ、２０２２年を過ごしましょう。このためにあなたが今日からできることは何ですか。
