Jacob’s Twelve Sons: Common Heritage, Goal, and Struggle
ヤコブの12人の息子達：共通の遺産、目標、そして闘い

Last Sunday, Pastor Okura spoke about Jacob, and focused on his leaving his family and home in order to flee from his brother Esau who was intent on killing him.　 先週の日曜日、大倉牧師はヤコブについて話し、ヤコブが自分を殺そうとする兄エサウから逃げるために家族と家から出て行ったことに焦点を当てました。

Of course, Jacob was in that predicament because he had deceived his father Isaac in order to receive for himself the blessings that his father had intended to bestow upon his brother Esau.　 もちろん、ヤコブがそのような苦境に陥ったのは、父が弟エサウに与えようとした祝福を自分のものにするために、父イサクを欺いたからです。

Rebekah sent her son Jacob away to her brother Laban, so that he would be protected from Esau.リベカは、息子ヤコブをエサウから守るために、兄ラバンのもとへ彼を逃がしました。

As he fled from his brother, and left his parents and home, Jacob found himself for the first time, all alone in the wilderness.　兄から逃れ、両親と家を離れたヤコブは、初めて荒野にたった一人でいる自分に気づきました。

However, Jacob was not alone, for God had made His presence known to Jacob and spoke to him in a dream.　 しかし、ヤコブは一人ではありませんでした。神様がヤコブにその存在を知らせ、夢の中で語られたからです。

Genesis 28:13-15（創世記２８章１３節－１５節）“I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. ¹⁴ Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring.  ¹⁵ I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”「わたしはあなたの父アブラハムの神、イサクの神、主である。あなたが伏している地を、あなたと子孫とに与えよう。¹⁴あなたの子孫は地のちりのように多くなって、西、東、北、南にひろがり、地の諸族はあなたと子孫とによって祝福をうけるであろう。¹⁵わたしはあなたと共にいて、あなたがどこへ行くにもあなたを守り、あなたをこの地に連れ帰るであろう。わたしは決してあなたを捨てず、あなたに語った事を行うであろう」。

Having seen this dream and God’s promise to him, Jacob was able to move forward with the assurance that God was with him wherever he went, この夢と神の約束を見たヤコブは、行く先々で神が共にいてくださり、

will give him offspring, and will bring him back to the land of his parents.　子孫を与えてくださり、両親の地に連れ戻してくださるという確信を持って前進することができました。

Thus, today, we will look at Jacob’s family which God gave to him after reaching his uncle Laban’s house at the end of his journey of escaping from his brother.　 そこで今日は、兄から逃れる旅の果てに叔父ラバンの家に辿り着いたヤコブが、神様から与えられた家族について見ていきましょう。

Specifically, we will look at the sons that God had given to Jacob, and look at how God worked in their lives.　 具体的には、神様がヤコブに与えた息子達の人生に神様がどのように働かれたかを見ていきます。

First of all, let’s look at their births.　 まず、彼らの出生を見てみましょう。

Jacob married Rachel and her sister Leah.　 ヤコブはラケルとその妹レアと結婚しました。

Yes, right away you are thinking, what!?　 そうです、すぐに、えっ！と思われるでしょう。

The Bible makes it clear that Jacob married Rachel and Leah, although he loved Rachel more than Leah.　 聖書は、ヤコブがラケルとレアと結婚したことを明らかにしていますが、彼はレアよりもラケルを愛していました。

In fact, Jacob’s intention was to marry just Rachel, but since Leah was the older sister, 実際、ヤコブはラケルとだけ結婚するつもりでしたが、レアの方が姉であったため、

Laban the father in a sense forced Leah upon Jacob as a two-for-one deal.　父ラバンはある意味、二対一の取り引きとしてレアをヤコブに押しつけたのです。

Because of time I am not going to read the passage of Scripture that explains why this happened.　 時間の関係で、なぜこのようなことが起こったのかを説明する聖句を読みません。

I encourage you to read Genesis 29:1-30 on your own.　 創世記２９章１節から３０節を各自で読んでみてください。

The Bible does not hide the sinful and messed up nature of mankind. 聖書は人間の罪深さと滅茶苦茶な性質を隠しません。

Through these two wives and their respective maids, Jacob was given twelves sons. この二人の妻とそれぞれのメイドを通して、ヤコブは１２人の息子を授かりました。

Yes, you are thinking, what, twelves sons, and through two wives and their respective maids!? そう、二人の妻とそれぞれのメイドを通して１２人の息子です！？

Yes, the Bible records that Jacob was given twelve sons through 4 women. そう、聖書はヤコブが４人の女性を通して１２人の息子を授かったと記録しているのです。

The birthing of the twelves sons of Jacob begins with the following introduction. ヤコブの１２人の息子の誕生は、次のような序文から始まります。

Genesis 29:31-32（創世記２９章３１節－３２節）³¹ Now the Lord saw that Leah was unloved, and He opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. ³² Leah conceived and bore a son and named him Reuben, for she said, “Because the Lord has seen my affliction; surely now my husband will love me.” ³¹主はレアがきらわれるのを見て、その胎を開かれたが、ラケルは、みごもらなかった。³²レアは、みごもって子を産み、名をルベンと名づけて、言った、「主がわたしの悩みを顧みられたから、今は夫もわたしを愛するだろう」。

The Bible makes it clear that God is the One who provides children. 聖書は、神様が子を与えるお方であることを明らかにしています。

God is the One who opens up the womb of a woman to be able to conceive and give birth. 神様は女性の胎を開き、妊娠・出産できるようにしてくださるお方です。

Jacob loved Rachel, but God opened up the womb of the unloved Leah to be able to have children. ヤコブはラケルを愛しましたが、神様は愛されなかったレアの子宮を開いて、子供を産めるようにされたのです。

Thus, to Leah was born: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah (Genesis 29:32-35). こうしてレアからはルベン、シメオン、レビ、ユダが生まれました（創世記２９章３２節−３５節）。

What happens after this is basically a battle to provide offspring for Jacob. この後の展開は、基本的にヤコブに子孫を残すための戦いとなります。

Here we see the ugliness of sin as it rears its head in the form of jealously. ここには嫉妬という形で頭をもたげる罪の醜さを見ることができます。

Genesis 30:1-3（創世記３０章１節－３節）¹ Now when Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she became jealous of her sister; and she said to Jacob, “Give me children, or else I die.” ² Then Jacob’s anger burned against Rachel, and he said, “Am I in the place of God, who has withheld from you the fruit of the womb?” ³ She said, “Here is my maid Bilhah, go in to her that she may bear on my knees, that through her I too may have children.” ¹ラケルは自分がヤコブに子を産まないのを知った時、姉をねたんでヤコブに言った、「わたしに子どもをください。さもないと、わたしは死にます」。²ヤコブはラケルに向かい怒って言った、「あなたの胎に子どもをやどらせないのは神です。わたしが神に代ることができようか」。³ラケルは言った、「わたしのつかえめビルハがいます。彼女の所におはいりなさい。彼女が子を産んで、わたしのひざに置きます。そうすれば、わたしもまた彼女によって子を持つでしょう」。

Sadly, we have already seen something similar to this with how Sarah dealt with her own barrenness. 悲しいことに、私達は既に、サラが自分の不妊にどう対処したかについて、これと似たようなことを目にしています。

Remember, Sarah offered her maid Hagar to Abraham in order to have a surrogate child. サラは、自分の召使ハガルをアブラハムに差し出して、代理出産をさせました。

This is not something we would allow today, but as can be seen in these instances, it seems to have been a somewhat common and accepted practice at that time. これは今日の私達には許されないことですが、これらの例からもわかるように、当時はある程度一般的に受け入れられていたようです。

Thus, to Bilhah was born: Dan and Naphtali (Genesis 30:4-8). こうしてビルハに生まれたのが ダンとナフタリです（創世記３０章４節−８節）。

Then, we read: そして、こう書かれています：

Genesis 30:9（創世記３０章９節）When Leah saw that she had stopped bearing, she took her maid Zilpah and gave her to Jacob as a wife. さてレアは自分が子を産むことのやんだのを見たとき、つかえめジルパを取り、妻としてヤコブに与えた。

Thus, to Zilpah was born: Gad and Asher (Genesis 30:10-13). こうして、ジルパとの間に生まれたのがガドとアシェルです（創世記３０章１０節−１３節）。

Furthermore, God opens up Leah’s womb once again. さらに、神様はレアの胎を再び開かれます。

Thus, to Leah was then born: Issachar and Zebulun, and a daughter Dinah (Genesis 30:17-21). こうして、レアからイッサカルとゼブルン、そして娘ディナが生まれました（創世記３０章１７節−２１節）。

So, at this point there are now ten sons and one daughter that have born to Jacob. つまり、この時点でヤコブに生まれたのは１０人の息子と1人の娘ということになります。

That is not the end of the story as it relates to Jacob’s children. ヤコブの子供達に関する物語はこれで終わりではありません。

Finally, we read of how Rachel was able to give birth to two sons. 最後にラケルが二人の息子を産んだことが書かれています。

Genesis 30:22-24（創世記３０章２２節－２４節）²² Then God remembered Rachel, and God gave heed to her and opened her womb. ²³ So she conceived and bore a son and said, “God has taken away my reproach.” ²⁴ She named him Joseph, saying, “May the Lord give me another son.” ²²次に神はラケルを心にとめられ、彼女の願いを聞き、その胎を開かれたので、²³彼女は、みごもって男の子を産み、「神はわたしの恥をすすいでくださった」と言って、²⁴名をヨセフと名づけ、「主がわたしに、なおひとりの子を加えられるように」と言った。

Then, we read the following after some time had elapsed and Jacob and his family were making their way to where Isaac lived. そして、しばらく時間が経ち、ヤコブとその家族がイサクの住む場所へと向かっているとき、次のように書かれています。

Genesis 35:16-19（創世記３５章１６節－１９節）¹⁶ Then they journeyed from Bethel; and when there was still some distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel began to give birth and she suffered severe labor. ¹⁷ When she was in severe labor the midwife said to her, “Do not fear, for now you have another son.” ¹⁸ It came about as her soul was departing (for she died), that she named him Ben-oni; but his father called him Benjamin. ¹⁹ So Rachel died and was buried on the way to Ephrath (that is, Bethlehem). ¹⁶こうして彼らはベテルを立ったが、エフラタに行き着くまでに、なお隔たりのある所でラケルは産気づき、その産は重かった。¹⁷その難産に当って、産婆は彼女に言った、「心配することはありません。今度も男の子です」。¹⁸彼女は死にのぞみ、魂の去ろうとする時、子の名をベノニと呼んだ。しかし、父はこれをベニヤミンと名づけた。¹⁹ラケルは死んでエフラタ、すなわちベツレヘムの道に葬られた。

Thus, to Rachel was born: Joseph and Benjamin. こうしてラケルとの間に生まれたのが ヨセフとベニヤミンです。

The Bible summarizes the children born to Jacob in this way: 聖書はヤコブとの間に生まれた子供達をこのようにまとめています：

Genesis 35:22-26（創世記３５章２２節－２６節）Now there were twelve sons of Jacob— ²³ the sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, then Simeon and Levi and Judah and Issachar and Zebulun; ²⁴ the sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin; ²⁵ and the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s maid: Dan and Naphtali; ²⁶ and the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s maid: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram. さてヤコブの子らは十二人であった。²³すなわちレアの子らはヤコブの長子ルベンとシメオン、レビ、ユダ、イッサカル、ゼブルン。²⁴ラケルの子らはヨセフとベニヤミン。²⁵ラケルのつかえめビルハの子らはダンとナフタリ。²⁶レアのつかえめジルパの子らはガドとアセル。これらはヤコブの子らであって、パダンアラムで彼に生れた者である。

It is easy to imagine that because of the family dynamic in which these twelve boys were born and grew up together in, there was much conflict amongst them. この１２人の少年達が生まれ、共に育った家族の力関係から、彼らの間に多くの対立があったことは容易に想像がつきます。

Mostly, the battle lines were drawn between the so-called children of Leah and the so-called children of Rachel.大抵、いわゆるレアの子供達と、いわゆるラケルの子供達の間に戦線が引かれました。

Most of all, the two youngest children, which were the actual children of Rachel, were not liked very much by their older siblings. とりわけ、ラケルの実子である末っ子の二人は、兄姉からあまり好かれていませんでした。

This was because their father Jacob loved Joseph and Benjamin the most because of his love for their mother Rachel. それは、父ヤコブが母ラケルへの愛ゆえに、ヨセフとベニヤミンを最も愛していたからです。

Pastor Okura will give a message on Joseph, next Sunday, so you will understand more about what I am talking about here then. ヨセフについては、来週の日曜日に大倉牧師がメッセージをしてくださるので、その時に、私がここで話していることをもっと理解していただけると思います。

Anyway, like any family, there was some sibling rivalry that took place among Jacob’s twelve sons. とにかく、他の家族と同じように、ヤコブの１２人の息子達の間にも兄弟間の対立がありました。

However, the key thing was that these twelve sons of Jacob stuck together through good times and bad times. しかし、重要なことは、このヤコブの１２人の息子達が、良い時も悪い時も、団結していたことです。

One particular bad time was when the region in which they lived was going through a seven-year long famine. 特に悪い時とは、彼らが住んでいた地域が７年にわたる飢饉に見舞われた時です。

This too can be seen in the story of Joseph and how God used him to save his father and brothers and their families through that difficult time. これもヨセフの物語に見ることができ、神様がその困難な時期を通して、父と兄弟とその家族を救うためにヨセフをどのように用いられたかが分かります。

Thus, they all went together to Egypt to be taken care of by Joseph. こうして彼らは皆、ヨセフの世話を受けるためにエジプトに向かいました。

This move to Egypt by Jacob and his sons and their families is recorded in the Bible in Genesis 46. このヤコブとその息子達一家によるエジプトへの移住は、聖書の創世記４６章に記録されています。

Thus, all twelve sons of Jacob and their families survived the famine and then prospered in Egypt. こうして、ヤコブの１２人の息子とその家族はみな飢饉を生き延び、その後エジプトで繁栄しました。

One of the key things for children at that time was receiving the blessing of their father. 当時の子供達にとって重要なことの一つは、父親の祝福を受けることでした。

We see this when Isaac blessed Jacob and how Esau was devasted in not being able to receive his father’s blessing. イサクがヤコブを祝福した時、エサウが父の祝福を受けられずに打ちひしがれていたことが分かります。

Maybe it was because of that experience, or maybe it was because Jacob did not want his own sons to experience the bitterness of missing out in receiving a blessing. その経験があったからかもしれないし、ヤコブが自分の息子達に祝福を受けられなかった苦い経験をさせたくなかったからかもしれません。

Jacob blessed all of his children. ヤコブは子供達全員を祝福しました。

Now, I will admit, some of the things that Jacob says to his sons do not seem like much of a blessing. さて、正直なところ、ヤコブが息子達に言うことの中には、あまり祝福とは思えないものもあります。

However, for each of them, it was important to hear their father speak to them a word concerning their future and hope for them. しかし、息子達一人ひとりにとって、父親が自分たちの将来や希望に関する言葉をかけてくれることは、とても大切なことだったのです。

Even today, children, not just little ones but those who are adults, long to hear words of affirmation and blessings from their parents. 現代でも、小さな子供に限らず、大人になった子達も、親からの肯定と祝福の言葉を待ち望んでいます。

(It is recorded in Genesis 32:28 that God changed Jacob’s name to Israel.) (創世記３２章２８節には、神様がヤコブの名をイスラエルに変えたことが記されています）。

This is what Jacob said to his sons as he gathered them to himself in order to bless them: これは、ヤコブが息子達を祝福するために自分のもとに集めた時に、息子達に言った言葉です：

Genesis 49:1-2（創世記４９章１節－２節）¹ Then Jacob summoned his sons and said, “Assemble yourselves that I may tell you what will befall you in the days to come. ² “Gather together and hear, O sons of Jacob; and listen to Israel your father.” ¹ヤコブはその子らを呼んで言った、「集まりなさい。後の日に、あなたがたの上に起ることを、告げましょう、²ヤコブの子らよ、集まって聞け。父イスラエルのことばを聞け」。

He then went on to pronounce a word regarding each of his sons’ futures. そして、ヤコブは息子達の将来についてそれぞれ言葉を告げました。

Because of time, I will not read all of the blessings that Jacob spoke to his twelve sons. 時間の関係で、ヤコブが１２人の息子達に語った祝福の全てを読むことはしません。

I encourage you to read Genesis 49 on your own. ご自身で創世記４９章を読まれることをお勧めします。

The following summary is given of what Jacob had said to all his sons. ヤコブが息子達全員に語ったことを要約すると、次のようになります。

Genesis 49:28（創世記４９章２８節）All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He blessed them, every one with the blessing appropriate to him. すべてこれらはイスラエルの十二の部族である。そしてこれは彼らの父が彼らに語り、彼らを祝福したもので、彼は祝福すべきところに従って、彼らおのおのを祝福した。

As noted here, “these are the twelve tribes of Israel,” and thus through these twelve sons of Jacob we have the nation of Israel.ここに記されているように「これらはイスラエルの十二部族である」ので、ヤコブの十二人の息子達を通して、イスラエルという国家があります。

And we can see throughout the Bible how Jacob’s blessings came to fruition through the twelve sons of Israel. そして私達はヤコブの祝福がイスラエルの十二人の息子達を通してどのように結実したかを聖書全体を通して見ることができます。

As the twelve tribes of Israel, the descendants of Jacob’s children have shared a common heritage and common goal and common struggle. イスラエルの１２部族として、ヤコブの子孫達は共通の遺産と共通の目標、共通の闘いを共有してきました。

Their common heritage is found in their spiritual life of faith in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. 彼らの共通の遺産はアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神への信仰という霊的生活にあります。

Their common goal is found in their claiming and living in the land that God had promised to them. 彼らの共通の目標は、神が彼らに約束された土地を要求し、そこに住むことにあります。

Their common struggle is found in their inability to fully live trusting in God and obeying Him. 彼らの共通の苦悩は、神に信頼し、神に従って完全に生きることができないことにあります。

These things are still true of the people of Israel today. これらのことは、今日でもイスラエルの人々に当てはまります。

So, what can we glean from looking at these twelve sons and Jacob’s family as a whole? では、この１２人の息子達とヤコブの家族全体から何が読み取れるでしょうか？

As already noted, we can see that this large family was not perfect. 既に述べたように、この大家族は完璧ではなかったことが分かります。

In fact, in today’s terms, we can probably say that this was a dysfunctional family. 実際、今日の言葉で言えば、機能不全な家族だったと言えるかもしれません。

First of all, there were four wives!  A family of thirteen children (12 sons and a daughter) with one father and four mothers! まず４人の妻がいました！ １３人の子供（１２人の息子と１人の娘）、１人の父親、４人の母親！

There was much jealousy and strife among the mothers of Jacob’s twelve sons. ヤコブの１２人の息子の母親達の間には、多くの嫉妬と争いがありました。

Thus, there was much jealousy and strife among Jacob’s sons. そのため、ヤコブの息子達の間にも多くの嫉妬と争いがありました。Also, this was a blended family. また、これは混合の家族でした。

Not quite the type of blended family that we see in our society today, but still it was a blended family. 今日の社会で見られるような混合家族ではありませんが、それでも混合家族でした。

So, for those of you who are a part of a blended family can find solace in knowing that the so-called “Chosen People” in the Bible were made up of people who were a part of a blended family. 聖書に登場するいわゆる「選ばれし者達」は、混合家族であった人々で構成されているのです。

And as such, they experienced the struggles that come from being a blended family. そして、そのような混合家族であることから来る葛藤を彼らは経験しました。

And the larger a family is, you have to deal with different temperaments and personalities. 大家族になればなるほど、さまざまな気質や性格に対処しなければなりません。

I have a family of seven, and it gets very interesting when we are all together. 私には７人家族がいるが、全員が揃うと、とても面白くなります。

I cannot imagine what it would be like eating dinner together as a family of 18 (Dad, 4 Moms, 13 children). １８人家族（父、４人の母、１３人の子供たち）で一緒に夕食を食べることがどんなものか、私には想像もつきません。

Yet, Jacob’s family stuck together, and what banded them together was their faith in God. しかし、ヤコブの家族は団結し、彼らを結束させたのは神様への信仰だったのです。

The legacy of faith in God was passed down from Abraham to Isaac, and from Isaac to Jacob, and then from Jacob to his family. 神様への信仰の遺産は、アブラハムからイサクへ、イサクからヤコブへ、そしてヤコブから彼の家族へと受け継がれました。

As a family they went through the ups and downs of life: Famine that led them to Egypt, prosperity through Joseph, 家族として、彼らは人生の浮き沈みを経験しました： 飢饉でエジプトに行き、ヨセフによって繁栄しました、

enslavement because they were fruitful and multiplied, exodus from Egypt by God’s work through Moses, 40 years of wandering in the wilderness, 実を結び、一族が増えたが故の奴隷化、モーセを通した神の御業によるエジプト脱出、荒野での４０年間の放浪、

partial conquest of the Promised Land, an established and prosperous kingdom under David and his descendants, 約束の地の部分的征服、ダビデとその子孫による王国の確立と繁栄、

Babylonian exile due to unfaithfulness, return to Judah, the coming of Christ, 不忠実によるバビロン捕囚、ユダへの帰還、キリストの到来、

the destruction of Jerusalem and the diaspora, and the present regathering of the people to Israel. エルサレムの滅亡とディアスポラ、そして現在のイスラエルへの再集結。

Thus, we see the promises of God being fulfilled through the Jewish people who are the descendants of Jacob’s twelve sons. このように、ヤコブの１２人の息子の子孫であるユダヤ人を通して、神の約束が成就しているのが分かります。

But God is not done with them yet. しかし、神はまだ彼らに手を下していません。

We see this in the Bible in how the twelve tribes of Israel are mentioned in the New Testament. 新約聖書でイスラエルの１２部族がどのように言及されているかを見れば、聖書の中でこのことが分かります。

Matthew 19:28（マタイ１９章２８節）And Jesus said to them, “Truly I say to you, that you who have followed Me, in the regeneration when the Son of Man will sit on His glorious throne, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” イエスは彼らに言われた、「よく聞いておくがよい。世が改まって、人の子がその栄光の座につく時には、わたしに従ってきたあなたがたもまた、十二の位に座してイスラエルの十二の部族をさばくであろう」。

Luke 22:28-30（ルカ２２章２８節－３０節）²⁸ “You are those who have stood by Me in My trials; ²⁹ and just as My Father has granted Me a kingdom, I grant you ³⁰ that you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.” ²⁸「あなたがたは、わたしの試錬のあいだ、わたしと一緒に最後まで忍んでくれた人たちである。²⁹それで、わたしの父が国の支配をわたしにゆだねてくださったように、わたしもそれをあなたがたにゆだね、³⁰わたしの国で食卓について飲み食いをさせ、また位に座してイスラエルの十二の部族をさばかせるであろう」。

Revelation 21:12（黙示録２１章１２節）It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel. それには大きな、高い城壁があって、十二の門があり、それらの門には、十二の御使がおり、イスラエルの子らの十二部族の名が、それに書いてあった。

All three of these passages of Scripture have reference to the twelve tribes of Israel that relates to a future time. これら３つの聖句はすべて、イスラエルの１２部族について言及したものであり、将来の時に関連しています。

What is recorded in Matthew 19:28 and Luke 22:28-30 are Jesus’ words to His disciples, マタイ１９章２８節とルカ２２章２８節−３０節に記されているのは、イエス様が弟子達に語った言葉であり、

and is related to when He returns to this earth to establish His Kingdom.イエス様が御国を建国するためにこの地上に戻って来られる時に関連しています。

Revelation 21:12 is a description of what is known as the New Jerusalem which will come down to earth from heaven. 黙示録２１章１２節は、天から地上に下ってくる新しいエルサレムと呼ばれるものについての記述となっています。

In what specific way the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel will be represented at that time is not fully disclosed, but it is clear that they are still a part of God’s plan. その時、イスラエルの子達１２部族が具体的にどのような形で表されるかは完全には明らかにされていませんが、彼らが今も神様の計画の一部であることは明らかです。

Thus, it is important for us to remember the people of Israel in our prayers このように、私達が祈りの中でイスラエルの民を思い起こすことは重要なことです。

because they have an integral part to play in God’s future establishment of His kingdom.なぜなら、彼らは将来、神の王国を築くために不可欠な役割を担っているからです。

As we think about these things, we are also reminded of the fact that God has brought all of us together here this morning as His family. これらのことを考える時、神様が今朝、私達全員を神の家族としてここに集めてくださったという事実にも気づかされます。

God has brought us together as a blended family. 神様は私達を混合家族として共に導いてくださいました。

We have different biological parents.  We come from different ethnicities and cultural backgrounds. 私達には異なる実の両親がいます。 民族も文化的背景も違います。

We don’t all share the same upbringing. 育った環境も違います。

We don’t all have the same personality and temperament.同じ性格や気質を持っているわけでもありません。

Yet, in Christ, we share a common heritage, common goal, and common struggle. しかし、キリストにあって、私達は共通の遺産、共通の目標、共通の闘いを共有しています。

Our common heritage is the same as that of the sons of Jacob, and it is our spiritual life of faith in God. 私達の共通の遺産はヤコブの息子達と同じであり、それは神様への信仰という霊的生活です。

More specifically, it is our spiritual life given to us through faith in Jesus Christ.より具体的には、イエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって与えられる霊的な生活です。

John 1:12-13（ヨハネの福音書１章１２節－１３節）¹² But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, ¹³ who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. ¹²しかし、彼を受けいれた者、すなわち、その名を信じた人々には、彼は神の子となる力を与えたのである。¹³それらの人は、血すじによらず、肉の欲によらず、また、人の欲にもよらず、ただ神によって生れたのである。

Through faith in Jesus Christ, God has given us the right to become His children. イエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって、神は私達に神の子となる権利を与えてくださいました。

We can only become God’s children by being born again spiritually through faith in Jesus Christ. 私達はイエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって、霊的に生まれ変わることによってのみ、神の子となることができます。

Jesus made this clear in his conversation with Nicodemus, who was a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews. イエス様はパリサイ人でありユダヤ人の支配者であったニコデモとの会話の中で、このことを明らかにされました。

John 3:3, 5-8, 16（ヨハネ３章３節、５節、６節）Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. . . . Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” イエスは答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも新しく生れなければ、神の国を見ることはできない。。。。よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも、水と霊とから生れなければ、神の国にはいることはできない。肉から生れる者は肉であり、霊から生れる者は霊である」。

We are given the assurance that we are God’s child by the Holy Spirit that is given to us. 私達は、与えられた聖霊によって、自分が神の子であるという確信を与えられるのです。

As God’s family, our common goal is to make disciples of all nations.神の家族として、私達の共通の目標は、あらゆる国の人々を弟子にすることです。

This is based on God’s great commission given to His disciples.これは、神様の弟子達に与えられた神様の偉大な命令に基づいています。

Matthew 28:18-20（マタイ２８章１８節－２０節）¹⁸ And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. ¹⁹ Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, ²⁰ teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” ¹⁸イエスは彼らに近づいてきて言われた、「わたしは、天においても地においても、いっさいの権威を授けられた。¹⁹それゆえに、あなたがたは行って、すべての国民を弟子として、父と子と聖霊との名によって、彼らにバプテスマを施し、²⁰あなたがたに命じておいたいっさいのことを守るように教えよ。見よ、わたしは世の終りまで、いつもあなたがたと共にいるのである」。

Notice Jesus’ words to His disciples, which is basically the same words that God spoke to Jacob as he was alone in the wilderness. イエス様が弟子達に語った言葉に注目してほしいと思います。これは基本的に、荒野で一人ぼっちだったヤコブに神が語った言葉と同じです。

As God’s children, we are given the promise from Jesus: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” 神の子である私達には、イエス様からの約束が与えられているのです： 「わたしは世の終わりまで、いつもあなたがたと共にいる」

And it is with Jesus that we are to fulfill our common goal together as God’s family. そして、神の家族としての共通の目標を果たすことは、イエス様と共になされるのです。

We are to make disciples of all the nations, which means to share our faith in Christ and how to live with Christ to all people. 私達は、あらゆる国の人々を弟子とすること、つまり、キリストへの信仰とキリストと共に生きる方法を全ての人々に分かち合うのです。

We are to baptize such people who come to faith in Christ in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 私達は、キリストを信じるようになったそのような人々に、父と子と聖霊の名によってバプテスマを授けるのです。

We are to teach them to observe all that Jesus has commanded us. イエス様が私達に命じられたことをすべて守るように教えるのです。

Thus, in order to teach other people Jesus’ commandments, we ourselves need to know them and observe them. このように、他の人々にイエス様の戒めを教えるためには、私達自身がそれを知り、守る必要があります。

Discipleship begins with ourselves. 弟子となることは私達自身から始まるのです。

As God’s children, our common struggle “is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12). 「わたしたちの戦いは、血肉に対するものではなく、もろもろの支配と、権威と、やみの世の主権者、また天上にいる悪の霊に対する戦いである」。（エペソ６章１２節）

Thus, we are exhorted to gird ourselves with the full armor of God to resist and stand firm against the spiritual forces of evil and darkness and wickedness (Ephesians 6:14). このように、私達は、悪と闇と邪悪の霊的な力に抵抗し、堅く立つために、神の完全な武具で身を固めるように勧められています（エペソ６章１４節）。

We need to protect ourselves with our faith in God, girding ourselves with God’s truth, righteousness, peace, salvation, and His word (Ephesians 6:14-17). 私達は神様への信仰によって身を守り、神の真理、義、平和、救い、神の言葉を身にまとう必要があります（エペソ６章１４節−１７節）。

Indeed, if we truly understand our common struggle, we will equip ourselves for spiritual warfare, and pray at all times in the Spirit for one another (Ephesians 6:18). 実際、もし私達が共通の闘いを真に理解するなら、霊的戦いのための装備を整え、互いのために常に御霊によって祈るようになるでしょう（エペソ６章１８節）。

Thus, as the family of God, we share a common heritage, goal, and struggle. このように、神の家族として、私達は共通の遺産、目標、闘いを共有しています。

And just like the twelve tribes of Israel, we must stick together as a family of God through the ups and downs of life, そしてイスラエルの１２部族のように、人生の浮き沈みを通して神様の家族として団結しなければならず、

knowing that one day we will stand before a great and high wall, with twelve gates that will have the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel written on them. いつか私達はイスラエルの子孫の１２部族の名が書かれた１２の門にある、大きくて高い城壁の前に立つことになるのです。

What a sight that will be!  What a reunion of all of God’s children that will be! それはどんな光景でしょうか！ 神の子達全員の再会は、どんな光景になるのでしょうか！
