今年最後の日曜日のメッセージは、新年を見据えながらイエス様と共に「絶えず前進し続ける」ことに焦点を当てます。私たちはイエス様と共に絶えず前進し続けられるのは、イエス様が私たちの生活の中で絶えず良いわざをなさっていると知っているからであります（ピリピ人への手紙１章６節）。

したがって、メッセージの一環として、シーラ・ウォーカーさんと大倉仰さんからもお話を伺い、神様がお二人の人生において成し遂げてこられた良いわざと、来年に向けて楽しみにしていることをシェアーしていただきます（本多）。

Continually Moving Forward
絶えず前進し続ける

This is the last Sunday of 2025. 今日は2025年の最後の日曜日です。

It seems just like yesterday when we began this year and had our first worship service on January 5. 今年が始まり、1月5日に最初の礼拝があったのが、つい昨日のことのように感じられます。

On that Sunday, I gave a message titled “Moving Forward with Jesus”. その日曜日、私は「イエスと共に前進する」と題したメッセージを語りました。

Interestingly, before I looked back to double check what the title of the message was for the first Sunday of this year, 興味深いことに、今年最初の日曜日のメッセージの題を確かめようと振り返る前に、

I chose for the title of today’s message, “Continually Moving Forward”.私は今日のメッセージの題を「絶えず前進し続ける」としました。

Either, I have a one-track mind when it comes to preparing for messages related to the end of the year and new year, 年末年始のメッセージ準備となると、私はどうしても一つのことしか考えられなくなるのか、

or this is God’s amazing way of reminding me, and hopefully all of us, of ending well what has been started. それともこれは神様が、私だけでなく皆に、始めたことをきちんと終わらせるようにと思い出させる驚くべき方法なのかもしれません。

When I think of this, it reminds me of one particular Bible verse. このことを考えると、ある聖句を思い出します。

Philippians 1:6（ピリピ人への手紙1章6節）

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. そして、あなたがたのうちに良いわざを始められたかたが、キリスト・イエスの日までにそれを完成して下さるにちがいないと、確信している。

These were the words that the apostle Paul wrote to the Philippian Christians as he thanked God while remembering them in his prayers. これは、使徒パウロがピリピのクリスチャンたちに宛てて書いた、祈りの中で彼らを思いつつ神様に感謝した時の言葉であります。

Yes, indeed, we can continually move forward with Jesus, knowing that He is continually doing good work in our lives until we enter into His presence for all eternity. 確かに、永遠に御前に至るその日まで、イエス様が絶えず私たちの人生に良いわざをなさっていることを知っているから、私たちはイエス様と共に絶えず前進し続けることができます。

In Japan, this time of the year is filled with gatherings called “Bonen-kai”. 日本では、この時期は「忘年会」と呼ばれる集まりでいっぱいです。

“Bonen-kai” literally means “Forgetting the year party”. 「忘年会」は文字通り「年を忘れる会」を意味します。

It is often accompanied by a lot of alcohol. 多くの場合、大量のアルコールを伴います。

I guess for many people in Japan, rather than reflecting back with gratitude for what was good during the past year, they would rather try to forget the year altogether. おそらく日本の多くの人々にとって、過去1年の良かったことに感謝して振り返るよりも、むしろその年全体を忘れたいと思うのでしょう。

I hope that is not the case for us as we are gathering here to worship God together on this last Sunday of this year. 今年最後の日曜日に、私たちがここに集い共に神様を礼拝するにあたり、そのようなことが私たちには起こらないことを願います。

Reflection is good, and I am glad that within the Christian community particularly here in the U.S., 思いめぐらすことは良いことです。特にここアメリカでは、キリスト教コミュニティーにおいて、

we get to begin that reflection already in November with Thanksgiving Day. サンクスギビングの日がある11月から既にその思いめぐらしを始めることができることを嬉しく思います。

It gives us pause to reflect on the things we can be thankful for and give thanks to God for them. それは私たちに、感謝すべき事柄について考えさせ、それらに対して神様に感謝を捧げる機会を与えてくれます。

And then the Advent season that comes right after that time allows us to wait expectantly and reflectively for Christmas Day, そしてその直後に訪れる待降節は、私たちが期待と省察をもってクリスマス当日を待ち望む時であり、

which again gives us pause to give thanks to God for the sending of His Son, Jesus, who is Christ the Lord. そこでもまた私たちは立ち止まり、神の御子イエス様、すなわち主キリストを遣わしてくださった神様に感謝を捧げるのです。

For us who are in Christ, we are to continually look ahead with expectation because of what we know that God has done in the past. キリストにある私たちにとって、神様が過去に成し遂げられたことを知っているゆえに、私たちは絶えず期待をもって前を見据えなければなりません。

So, on this last Sunday of 2025, I have asked Shira Walker and Kou Okura to share with us　of the good work God has been doing in their lives and what they are looking forward to in the coming year.ですから、2025年の最後の日曜日となるこの日、私はシーラ・ウォーカーさんと大倉仰さんに、神様が彼らの生活の中で成し遂げてこられた良いわざと、来年に向けて彼らが楽しみにしていることについて、私たちと分かち合っていただくようお願いしました。

How exciting to hear from Shira and Kou of how God has been doing good works in their lives! シーラさんと仰さんから、どのように神様が彼らの生活の中で良いわざをなさっているかを聞けることは、なんて素晴らしいことでしょう！

Let us remember them in our prayers as they continue to fulfill the call they have received from God to serve in full-time ministry. 神様から受けたフルタイムでミニストリーをする召命に従い続けるお二人を、私たちの祈りの中に覚えましょう。

As we look ahead to the new year, let us each take the time to reflect on God’s good work in our lives and commit ourselves to continually move forward with Jesus. 新年を迎えるにあたり、私たち一人ひとりが、神様が私たちの人生に成し遂げてくださった良いわざを振り返り、イエス様と共に歩み続けることを心に誓いましょう。

In this matter, it is probably good for us to learn from the apostle Paul of how he viewed continually moving forward with Jesus. この件に関しては、使徒パウロがイエス様と共に絶えず前進することをどう捉えていたか、私たちも彼から学ぶべき点があるでしょう。

For it is quite obvious that his confidence that Jesus who began a good work in the Philippian Christians will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus was based onなぜなら、ピリピのクリスチャンたちの中に良いわざを始められたイエス様が、キリスト・イエスの日まで、それを完成させてくださるという彼の確信は、

what he himself had seen in his own life and how he continually lived with this in mind. 彼自身が自らの人生において目撃した事柄と、このことを常に心に留めて生き続けた姿勢に基づいていたことは明らかだからであります。

In Philippians 3:7-11, Paul wrote about how important his personal relationship with Jesus was. ピリピ人への手紙3章7-11節で、パウロはイエス様との個人的な関係がいかに重要であるかを書きました。

Philippians 3:7-11（ピリピ人への手紙3章7節—11節）

⁷ But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. ⁸ More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, ⁹ and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, ¹⁰ that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; ¹¹ in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead. ⁷しかし、わたしにとって益であったこれらのものを、キリストのゆえに損と思うようになった。 ⁸わたしは、更に進んで、わたしの主キリスト・イエスを知る知識の絶大な価値のゆえに、いっさいのものを損と思っている。キリストのゆえに、わたしはすべてを失ったが、それらのものを、ふん土のように思っている。それは、わたしがキリストを得るためであり、⁹律法による自分の義ではなく、キリストを信じる信仰による義、すなわち、信仰に基く神からの義を受けて、キリストのうちに自分を見いだすようになるためである。¹⁰すなわち、キリストとその復活の力とを知り、その苦難にあずかって、その死のさまとひとしくなり、¹¹なんとかして死人のうちからの復活に達したいのである。

Before Paul became a Christian, he thought all the so-called religious things パウロがキリスト者になる前、彼は自分が行っていたいわゆる宗教的な行為のすべてが、

he did made him a success in the effort to please God by works.行いによって神様を喜ばせようとする努力において自分を成功者にするものだと考えていました。

However, he had come to realize that absolutely nothing apart from Jesus Christ’s work on the cross was of any value in his gaining God’s acceptance. しかし、次第に彼はイエス・キリストの十字架上の御業以外に、神様に受け入れられるために、価値あるものはないのだと悟るようになりました。

Thus, Paul put his full confidence in a living relationship with Jesus Christ. それゆえにパウロはイエス・キリストとの生きた関係に全幅の信頼を置いたのです。

He joyfully accepted the loss of all other things for the greatness of this personal relationship. 彼はこの個人的な関係の偉大さのために、他のすべてのものを喜んで失うことを受け入れました。

Paul considered all other things beside his relationship with Christ as being rubbish, or literally dung, that is worthless and offensive. パウロは、キリストとの関係以外のあらゆるものを、文字通り糞土のような、つまり無価値で不快なゴミだと考えたのです。

He did not trust in his own righteousness but lived trusting in God’s righteousness given through faith in Christ. 彼は自分の義に信頼せず、キリストへの信仰を通して与えられる神様の義を信頼して生きました。

And Paul wanted to truly know Jesus as he continued to serve Him. そしてパウロは、主に仕え続ける中で、イエス様を真に知りたいと願ったのです。

Paul so loved Jesus that he wanted to share all aspects of His life, to know Him as intimately as he could, in both the power of Jesus’ resurrection and His sufferings. パウロはイエス様を深く愛し、イエス様の復活の力と苦難の両方において、イエス様の人生のあらゆる側面を分かち合い、可能な限り親密にイエス様を知りたいと願ったのです。

Thus, Paul continued to move forward in serving God, knowing that his calling by God was not completed yet. こうして、パウロは神様による召しがまだ完了していないことを知っていたので、神様に仕える道を歩み続けました。

Philippians 3:12-14（ピリピ３章１２節—１４節）

¹² Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. ¹³ Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, ¹⁴ I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. ¹²わたしがすでにそれを得たとか、すでに完全な者になっているとか言うのではなく、ただ捕えようとして追い求めているのである。そうするのは、キリスト・イエスによって捕えられているからである。¹³兄弟たちよ。わたしはすでに捕えたとは思っていない。ただこの一事を努めている。すなわち、後のものを忘れ、前のものに向かってからだを伸ばしつつ、¹⁴目標を目ざして走り、キリスト・イエスにおいて上に召して下さる神の賞与を得ようと努めているのである。

Paul viewed his experience as similar to that of a runner looking only forward to the goal that was set before him. パウロは自らの経験を、目の前に定められたゴールだけを見つめて走るランナーのそれに似ていると捉えたのです。

Therefore, he had to press on, so that he may fulfill God’s will for him. それゆえ、神様が彼に定められた御心を果たすため、彼は前進せざるを得なかったのです。

Thus, Paul continually set his eyes upon the prize, which was the upward call of God. こうしてパウロは絶えず上に召して下さる神の賞与に目を注いだのです。

He was to run the race, working with God as a partner to do the work of His kingdom. 　　　彼は、神様をパートナーとして御国のわざを成し遂げるため、レースを走り抜くのでした。

And the ultimate goal was complete knowledge of Christ. そして究極のゴールは、キリストを完全に知ることでした。

And Paul knew that his Lord, Christ Jesus, would complete this good work in him by the time that he finished the race and entered into the Lord’s presence. そしてパウロは、主イエス・キリストが、彼がこのレースを終え、主の御前に立つ時までに、この良いわざを彼の中で完成させてくださることを知っていたのです。

Thus, Shira and Kou, as well as all of us who are in Christ Jesus, are to continually move forward, running the race that is set before each of us. したがって、シーラさんと仰さん、そしてキリスト・イエスにある私たちすべては、それぞれに定められたレースを走り続け、前進し続けなければならないのです。

Furthermore, the Bible tells us of how we are to run this race to completion. さらに、聖書は私たちがこのレースを完走すべき方法を教えています。

Hebrews 12:1-2（へブル１２章１節—２節）

¹ Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, ² fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. ¹こういうわけで、わたしたちは、このような多くの証人に雲のように囲まれているのであるから、いっさいの重荷と、からみつく罪とをかなぐり捨てて、わたしたちの参加すべき競走を、耐え忍んで走りぬこうではないか。²信仰の導き手であり、またその完成者であるイエスを仰ぎ見つつ、走ろうではないか。彼は、自分の前におかれている喜びのゆえに、恥をもいとわないで十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に座するに至ったのである。

What was the joy set before Jesus in going to the cross? 十字架に向かうイエス様の前に置かれた喜びとは何だったのでしょうか？

Jesus was able to endure the cross with all of the pain and suffering and humility involved because He understood what the result of what He did would accomplish. イエス様は、ご自身の行いがもたらす結果を理解していたからこそ、十字架の苦しみと痛みに耐え、そのすべてを謙遜のうちに受け入れることができたのです。

His death upon the cross would bring about a people who would be redeemed and would live to honor God for all eternity. 十字架上の彼の死は、贖われ、永遠に神様を賛美して生きる民をもたらしたのです。

Such are the people of faith mentioned in the verses leading up to this passage of Scripture and the great cloud of witnesses mentioned here. このような信仰の人々は、この聖句に至るまでの節で言及されており、またここに記されている多くの証人の雲のような群れなのです。

Jesus completed what His Father had set before Him, イエス様は、父なる神が御前に定められたことを成し遂げられました。

by humbly coming as a human being, living a perfect and sinless life, enduring the cross, すなわち、謙遜をもって人間として来られ、完全で罪のない生涯を送り、十字架を耐え忍び、

rising from the dead on the third day, and returning to His rightful place at the right hand of His Father in heaven. 三日目に死からよみがえり、彼にとってふさわしい場所である天の父の右の座へ戻られたのです。

Thus, we are to fix our eyes on Jesus, and run with endurance the race that is set before us. それゆえ、私たちはイエス様を仰ぎ見つつ、私たちの前に置かれたレースを忍耐をもって走り続けるのです。

It is a race and journey of faith that is not easy, filled with the encumbrances of this world and sin which so easily entangles us. これは容易ではない信仰のレースであり旅路であり、この世の重荷とからみつく罪で満ちております。

But we are to keep running this race of faith with our eyes fixed on Jesus, who is always with us. しかし私たちは、いつも共にいてくださるイエス様を仰ぎ見つつ、信仰のレースを走り続けるのです。

And when we finish the race and cross the finish line, there will be great joy for all of us as we stand before the glorious throne of God and worship Him forever. そして私たちがレースを終え、ゴールラインを越える時、栄光の神様の御座の前に立ち、永遠に神様を礼拝する時、私たちすべてに大きな喜びが訪れるでしょう。

There, as we reach our goal, we will receive the prize of our upward call of God in Christ Jesus. そこで、私たちがゴールに到達する時、キリスト・イエスにおける上に召して下さる神様の賞与を受けるのです。

The good work that Jesus has started in each of us will be completed. イエス様が私たち一人ひとりの内で始められた良いわざが完成されるのです。

So, in the here and now, let us continually move forward in deepening our relationship with Jesus and live to please Him. ですから、今この瞬間にも、イエス様との関係を深めながら絶えず前進し、主の御心に適う生き方を続けましょう。
