かつて一週間に二回、タイヤに釘が刺さっているのを見つけました。釘一本といえども、あなどってはなりません。そのことにより、フリーウエイでタイヤがバーストして、大きな事故になるかもしれません。釘一本で私達は命を失いかねないのです。
２０００年前の教会はコリントやローマという彼方の宣教地に目を向けていきます。その時に彼らがしがちなことは、彼らの心が彼方の宣教地だけに向けられていて、その足元に対して目が届かなくなることです。遠くの地で為される宣教のニュースは確かに教会に多くの喜びをもたらしたことでしょう。しかし、もし、彼らの目が遠くばかりを見て、自らの足元を見なくなったら何が起こりますか。遅かれ早かれ、彼らは世界宣教に力を注ぐことができなくなるでしょう。
私達は遠くを見、遠くに出ていくべきです。しかし、私達はそれ以上に私達の足元をいつも見ていなければなりません。足元がしっかりしていてはじめて、私達は遠くまで歩き続けることができるのです。

足元に目を向ける！

今から約２０００年前に誕生した最初の教会の姿が使徒行伝６章に記されています。最初の教会は祝福され、その弟子の数が増えていきました。しかし、そのような時にある問題が起こりました。
使徒行伝６章１節—６節
1そのころ、弟子の数がふえてくるにつれて、ギリシヤ語を使うユダヤ人たちから、ヘブル語を使うユダヤ人たちに対して、自分たちのやもめらが、日々の配給で、おろそかにされがちだと、苦情を申し立てた。2そこで、十二使徒は弟子全体を呼び集めて言った、「わたしたちが神の言をさしおいて、食卓のことに携わるのはおもしろくない。3そこで、兄弟たちよ、あなたがたの中から、御霊と知恵とに満ちた、評判のよい人たち七人を捜し出してほしい。その人たちにこの仕事をまかせ、4わたしたちは、もっぱら祈と御言のご用に当ることにしよう」。5この提案は会衆一同の賛成するところとなった。そして信仰と聖霊とに満ちた人ステパノ、それからピリポ、プロコロ、ニカノル、テモン、パルメナ、およびアンテオケの改宗者ニコラオを選び出して、6使徒たちの前に立たせた。すると、使徒たちは祈って手を彼らの上においた。
使徒行伝にはイエス・キリストが十字架にかけられ、葬られ、復活し、そして天に帰られた後に、この地に宣教がなされ、教会が生まれていったことが記録されています。その教会の黎明期に、ある問題が生まれました。その問題は何だったのでしょうか。
政治的圧力が教会に迫ってきたのでしょうか。異教的な惑わしが初代教会に襲いかかってきたのでしょうか。確かに彼らは後に、これらの外的な問題に直面し、それに対処しなければならなくなります。
しかし、彼らが最初に向き合った問題は「やもめたちの日々の配給」に関することでした。 英語の聖書を見ますと、Daily distribution of foodとありますから、それは日々の食事の配給だったようです。
二つの言語を話す者達が教会におり、その間で不公平が見られたというのです。.二つの言語と言いますと、私達の教会もそうですが、どうかご心配なく。私はこの教会にかれこれ２３年おりますが、このような問題を経験したことはありません。
当時、このことに対して使徒達は、この問題を収めることができるように「御霊と知恵と信仰に満ちた、評判のよい人達、七人」（使徒行伝６章３節）を選びました。教会に襲いかかる「異教の力」に対して、激しい「迫害」に対して、それに対処するように御霊と知恵と信仰に満ちた者達が選ばれたのなら分かります。
しかし、彼らが真剣に向き合った課題は、そのような問題ではありませんでした。遠くの宣教地で起きている複雑な問題でもありませんでした。それは彼らの足元で起きている課題でした。
この箇所は使徒行伝の６章です。この地上で最初の教会が産声を上げた時の話です。これから、この教会は世界に出ていきます。目まぐるしい宣教が為されていきます。しかし、神様はそのことを始める前に、彼らの心を、その足元に向けさせたのです。なぜでしょうか？なぜなら、私達の足元はとても大切な場所だからです。私達が足元に目を向けない時に、私達は転倒します。転倒しますと体の他の部位も大きなダメージを受けます。

「不公平な食事の配給」という課題は人種差別的な問題へと発展していく可能性をはらんでいました。もし彼らがこの問題に気がつかず、対処することを怠れば、この問題が別の問題に飛び火して、その鎮火に多大なエネルギーと時間がかかることになったかもしれません。もしかしたら修復不可能な状態に陥ってしまったかもしれません。
私達は遠くを見、遠くに出ていくべきです。しかし、私達はそれ以上に私達の足元をいつも見ていなければなりません。足元がしっかりしていてはじめて、私達は遠くまで歩き続けることができるのです。そして、このことは教会だけの話ではありません。私達の家庭もそうです。
今は昔よりも、便利になったと言われます。私達に代わって商品がデリバーされる時代です。声を出せば電気をつけたり、ヒーターが作動するのです。便利になるということは、その分、私達に自由な時間が与えられることを意味します。しかし、私達にそのような実感はあまりありません。「かえって昔より今の方が忙しい、ますます忙しい！」と感じている方は多いのではないでしょうか。私達がこれら諸々のことに忙しく没頭する時に、私達が心に留めなければならないことがあります。それは家庭の足元をよく見つめることです。
自分の仕事にやりがいがある。それは感謝なことです。しかし、それに没頭するあまり、足元を見ていないのであるなら、私達はある日、その足元で起きている事に、唖然とすることでしょう。
イエス・キリストが十字架にかけられた時、人々は荒削りの木の上に磔になっているイエス様の姿を見、嘲笑し、言いました。「他人を救ったが、自分自身を救うことができない。あれがイスラエルの王なのだ。いま十字架からおりてみよ。そうしたら信じよう」（マタイ２７章４２節）彼らは知りませんでした。その時が後にも先にもない人類史上、最も重要なことが彼らの目の前で起きているということを。そうです、このお方が十字架の上で死ぬことにより、全ての人間に救いがもたらせられるということが彼らの目の前で起きていたのです。
この神の計画を知る天の御使いは固唾を飲んで、この状況を見つめていたことでしょう。この神の一人子の死に対して、宇宙は反応し、あたりは闇に包まれ、大地は激しく揺れたのです。
そのような時にイエス様は十字架の上から、その足元にいる母マリアに語りかけました。「ごらんなさい。これはあなたの子です」（ヨハネ１９章２６節）。そして、その場に一緒にいた愛弟子ヨハネに言いました。「ごらんなさい。これはあなたの母です」（ヨハネ１９章２７節）。この時以来、ヨハネイエスの母を自分の家に引きとったと聖書は記録しています。
宇宙が、大地が、御使いが震えるようなことが自身の身の上に起きている時、人間の歴史が二分されるような時に、イエス様はその足元にいる母に目を向けたのです。主にある皆さん、私達の主イエス・キリストは、ご自身の死と引き換えに、人類が贖われようとしている、その只中で足元にいた自分を産み、育んでくれた母親の将来の行く末に心を寄せたお方です。
主にある皆さん、大抵、私達の今の問題は今、始まったものではないということをご存知でしょうか。その足元の問題は数週間前、数ヶ月前、数年前に始まり、最初は取るに足りないものと思われていたものということが多いのです。
問題は小さなうちに摘んでおく。これに越したことはありません。フリーウエイでのタイヤのバースト。痛みとなるような教会の問題。もっと早く気がついていれば、対処できたことはあるはず。私たちの足元は大丈夫でしょうか。
その時、使徒達は足元の問題に目を向けました。そのために彼らは祈ったことでしょう。御霊が彼らに知恵を授けたのでしょう。彼らはすぐに動きました。
使徒行伝６章３節. そこで、兄弟たちよ、あなたがたの中から、御霊と知恵とに満ちた、評判のよい人たち七人を捜し出してほしい。
この七人は「やもめの日々の配給の問題だけを専門に扱う臨時のチーム」ではありません。彼らは教会の中で起きる、すなわち、その足元で起きる全ての問題を御霊と知恵と信仰によって解決するために選ばれたのです。
「やもめの日々の配給の問題」というのは「彼らの日常の問題」です。使徒達は日常の問題に向き合うことのために、御霊と知恵に満ちた人たちを求めたのです。このことは私達の日常に起きる問題というのは霊的な問題であるということを示唆しています。
私達の足元をいつも監視し、問題があればあなたに代わって全てを解決してくれる「御魂と知恵と信仰に満ちた七人の賢者」があなたの家庭にいますか。いませんでしょう。それならどうしたらいいのでしょうか。
その問題には誰が向き合うのでしょうか・・・？そうです、私達自身です。私たち自身が聖霊と神の知恵と信仰に満たされる必要があるのです。私達はいつも何よりも「聖霊と知恵と信仰に満たされること」を願い求めようではありませんか。そのために具体的に何をすべきなのか、真剣に考えようではありませんか。
主にある皆さん、教会で提供されているバイブルスタディーや祈り会を、交わりを大いに用いてください。もう何度も聞いている話はいいよ。言われなくてもわかっているよ！そうでしょうか？
主の御言葉はただ知っていればいいというものではありません。それは私達の心に染み込ませるものです。主の御言葉は私達のどこを切っても、その御言葉が私達の言動から溢れ出るほどに染み込んでいますか。御言葉を注ぎ続ける以外に、その御言葉が私達の心に染み込み、それが血となり肉となることはないということ、このことを心に刻みましょう。
聖霊に満たされる時、聖霊は私たちに教えてくれます。
ヨハネ１４章２６節. 「しかし、助け主、すなわち、父がわたしの名によってつかわされる聖霊は、あなたがたにすべてのことを教え、またわたしが話しておいたことを、ことごとく思い起こさせるであろう」
あなたの周りには助言者がいるかもしれません。しかし、聖霊に勝る助言者はいません。
主の知恵に満たされましょう。
箴言４章６節—９節. 6知恵を捨てるな、それはあなたを守る。それを愛せよ、それはあなたを保つ。7知恵の初めはこれである、知恵を得よ、あなたが何を得るにしても、悟りを得よ。8それを尊べ、そうすれば、それはあなたを高くあげる、もしそれをいだくならば、それはあなたを尊くする。9それはあなたの頭に麗しい飾りを置き、栄えの冠をあなたに与える」。
箴言４章１１節—１２節. 11わたしは知恵の道をあなたに教え、正しい道筋にあなたを導いた12あなたが歩くとき、その歩みは妨げられず、走る時にも、つまずくことはない。
神の知恵は私達を守り、私達を引き上げ、私たちを正しい道に導きます。
信仰に満たされましょう。なぜ？
ヘブル１１章６節. 信仰がなくては、神に喜ばれることはできない。なぜなら、神に来る者は、神のいますことと、ご自身を求める者に報いて下さることとを、必ず信じるはずだからである。
教会、家庭を神様が見て喜んでくださる、主にある皆さん、このこと以上の太鼓判はないのです！
今日、この後にもたれる地域サポートグループを念頭に、今日の聖書箇所を選びました。地域サポートグループとは私達の教会の足元にあるものです。その地域には私達一人一人の日常の生活があります。その私達の日常と共に私達の教会があります。その足元で起きていることについて、互いに見守りあいましょう。
時に自分では気がつかないこともあります。私たちの隣人が大切なことを教えてくれることがあります。お互いの近況を取り交わすということだけでも価値があります。小さなことでもいい、互いに助け合うことができることがあるのなら、そうしましょう。互いに祈りあいましょう。「二人、三人が集まるところに私もいる」と主は言われるのです。
もし、私達が聖霊と知恵と信仰に満たされることは、そのことにより私達が関わる人達をも助けさせていただくことができることを意味します。私達が直面している課題に対して、互いの知恵が加わる時、そこに祈りが注がれるのなら、私達の前に閉ざされていた扉が開かれることでしょう。
ルカ１６章１０節. 「小事に忠実な人は、大事にも忠実である。そして、小事に不忠実な人は大事にも不忠実である」
小事に忠実な者は大事にも忠実です。そして、その反対もしかり。小事に忠実になりましょう。その人は大事に対しても備えることができます。
主にあるサンディエゴ教会の兄弟姉妹、聖霊に満たされ、神の知恵をいただき、信仰を増していただこうではありませんか。教会の足元を堅固なものとしようではありませんか。そのことゆえに私達はさらに遠くに出ていくことができるのです。
主にある皆さん、聖霊に満たされ、神の知恵をいただき、信仰に立ち、私達の足元なる家庭を治めようではありませんか。その足元を主がいつも見守ってくださいますように。私たちがいつもその足元に目を注いでいくことができますように。
お祈りしましょう。
Look at Your Feet!

The first church, which came into existence about 2000 years ago, is described in Acts 6. The first church was blessed and the number of its disciples grew. But then a certain problem arose.
Acts 6:1-6. 1 In those days when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenistic Jews among them complained against the Hebraic Jews because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food. 2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.”5 This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism. 6 They presented these men to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.
The book of Acts records that after Jesus Christ was crucified, buried, resurrected, and returned to heaven, evangelistic work was carried out in the land and the church was born. In the early days of that church, a problem arose. What was the problem?
Was political pressure closing in on the church? Did pagan deception strike the early church? Certainly they will later have to face and deal with these external problems.
However, the first problem they faced was related to the “daily distribution of food for the widows”. The English Bible says “daily distribution of food,” so there seems to have been a daily rationing of food.
There were speakers of two languages in the church, and they said they saw unfair treatment between the two. When I say two languages, our church also has two languages, but please don’t worry. I have been in this church for 23 years and have never experienced such a problem.
At the time, the apostles chose “seven men . . . known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom” (Acts 6:3) to settle the matter. I can understand if those filled with the Spirit, wisdom, and faith were chosen to deal with the intense “persecution” and the “pagan powers” that assailed the Church.
However, the issue they took seriously was not such a problem. Nor was it a complicated problem occurring in a distant missions field. It was a challenge that was happening right by their feet (close by).
This is chapter 6 of the book of Acts. It is the story of the birth of the first church on earth. From then on, this church will go out into the world. A dizzying amount of missionary work will be carried out. But before God began that, He turned their hearts to what was by their feet (close to them). Why is that?
Because where our feet stands is a very important place. When we do not pay attention to our feet, we will fall. When a person falls, other parts of the body are also severely damaged.
I always try to keep an eye on my car tires. In Japanese, the condition of a car’s tires is called “footwear”. We always pay attention to any problems with the footwear.
There was a time, twice in one week, I found a nail stuck in my tire. Even a single nail should not be underestimated. This could cause a tire to burst on the freeway, resulting in a major accident. A single nail could cost us our lives.
The 2000-year-old church would later turn its attention to the far-flung mission fields of Corinth and Rome. What could be the tendency to do at such a time is to lose sight of their feet, with their minds directed only to the mission fields far away.
The news of missionary work being done in distant lands must surely have brought much joy to the church. But what will happen if their eyes only look into the distance and not at their own feet? Sooner or later, they will not be able to focus their efforts on world missions.
The issue of “unfair distribution of food” had the potential to develop into a discrimination problem. If they had been unaware of this problem and failed to address it, it could have sparked another problem that would have taken a great deal of energy and time to defuse. Perhaps they would have fallen into a situation that was beyond repair.
We should look far and go out far. However, even more so, we must always watch our feet. Only when our footing is solid can we continue to walk far. And this is not just about the church. The same is true of our household.
It is said that things are more convenient now than in the past. We live in an era in which products are delivered to us. By just speaking, you can turn on the lights or turn on the heater.
Convenience means that this gives us more free time. However, we do not really feel that way. Many of you probably feel that you are busier now than you were in the past, even more busier! As we busily immerse ourselves in all these things, there is one thing we must keep in mind. It is to look closely at the feet of the household.
Your work is worthwhile. That is something to be thankful for. However, if we are so absorbed in it that we are not looking at our feet, one day we will be stunned by what is happening by our feet.
When Jesus Christ was crucified, people saw Him crucified on a rough-hewn tree, ridiculed Him, and said: “He saved others, but He can’t save Himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let Him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in Him.” (Matthew 27:42) Little did they know. That the most important thing in the history of mankind, whose time would never come later, was happening right before their eyes. Yes, that salvation could be brought to all human beings through the death of this One on the cross was happening right before their eyes.
The angels of heaven who knew this plan of God, would have watched this situation with bated breath. The universe reacted to the death of God’s only begotten son, darkness enveloped the area, and the earth shook violently.
At such a time, Jesus spoke to His mother Mary who was at the feet of the cross. “Woman, here is your son,” (John 19:26). Then he said to His beloved disciple John, who was there with her, “Here is your mother.” (John 19:27). The Bible records that from that time on, John took Jesus’ mother into his home.
At a time when the universe, the earth, and the angels were trembling because of what was happening to Him, when human history was being divided in two, Jesus turned His eyes toward His mother who was at His feet. People in the Lord, our Lord Jesus Christ is the One, who in the midst of redeeming humanity through His own death, gave His heart to the future care of the mother who bore and nurtured Him and was at His feet.
People in the Lord, did you know that most of our current problems (issues) did not start just now? Often the issues by our feet started weeks, months, or years ago, and were initially thought to be inconsequential.
Deal with issues while they are small. There is nothing better than this. A busted tire on the freeway. Church issues that cause great pain. Marital and children issues.
There are things that could have been addressed if they had been noticed earlier. Is what is by our feet okay?
At the time, the apostles turned their attention to the issue that was by their feet. They must have prayed for this. The Spirit must have given them wisdom. They moved immediately.
Acts 6:3. Brothers and sisters, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom.
These seven were not “a temporary team dedicated solely to the issue of the daily distribution of food to the widows”. They were chosen to solve all issues that arise within the church, that is by its feet (close by), by the Spirit, wisdom, and faith.
The “issue of the daily distribution of food to the widows” was “their daily issue”. The apostles sought men full of the Spirit and wisdom for facing everyday issues. This suggests that the issues that occur in our daily lives are spiritual issues.
Do you have “seven wise men full of the Spirit, wisdom and faith” in your household who always watches your feet and solves everything for you if there is a problem? Probably not. What should we do then?
Who will face that problem . . .? Yes, it is we ourselves. We ourselves need to be filled with the Holy Spirit and God’s wisdom and faith. Let us always desire above all else to be “filled with the Holy Spirit, wisdom, and faith”. Let us seriously consider what exactly we should do to achieve this.
People in the Lord, please make great use of the Bible studies and prayer meetings, as well as fellowship that are offered through the church. I don’t need to hear something I’ve heard a million times already. I know what you’re saying, even if you don’t tell me! Is that true?
The Word of the Lord is not something you just have to know. It is something we let seep into our hearts. Is the Word of the Lord so ingrained in us that no matter where we cut ourselves, His Word overflows from our words and actions? Let us keep this in mind, that the Word will never soak into our hearts and become a part of our flesh and blood except by continuing to have it be poured over us.
When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, He teaches us.
John 14:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”
You may have counselors around you. But there is no better Advocate than the Holy Spirit. Let us be filled with the Lord’s wisdom.
Proverbs 4:6-9. 6 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.7 The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding. 8 Cherish her, and she will exalt you; embrace her, and she will honor you. 9 She will give you a garland to grace your head and present you with a glorious crown.”
Proverbs 4:11-12 11 I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. 12 When you walk, your steps will not be hampered; when you run, you will not stumble.
God’s wisdom protects us, lifts us up, and guides us on the right path.
Let us be filled with faith. Why?
Hebrews 11:6. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
People in the Lord, there is no greater blessing than having God be pleased to see the church and our households!
I chose today’s Scripture passage with the regional support groups that will be meeting later today in mind. Regional support groups are at the feet of our church.
Each of us live our daily lives in these regions (communities). Our church exists along with our daily life. Let us look out for each other with regard to what is happening at our feet.
Sometimes there are things that we don’t realize ourselves. Sometimes our neighbors can teach us important things. It is worthwhile just to exchange updates on each other. If there is something we can do to help each other, even if it is a small thing, let’s do so. Let us pray for one another. For the Lord says, “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
If we are filled with the Holy Spirit, wisdom, and faith, this means that we can also help those with whom we interact. When we add our mutual wisdom to the challenges we face, and our prayers are poured out there, doors that have been closed to us will be opened. Jesus said.
Luke 16:10. “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
He who is faithful in the little things is faithful in the big things. And the opposite is also true. Let us be faithful in the small things. Such a person will be prepared for the big things.
Brothers and sisters in the Lord of the San Diego Church, let us be filled with the Holy Spirit, receive God’s wisdom, and increase our faith. Let us make the footing of the church firm. Because in doing so we can go further out.
People in the Lord, let us be filled with the Holy Spirit, receive God’s wisdom, stand upon faith, and manage the household that is under our feet. May the Lord always watch over these feet. May we always keep our eyes on these feet.

５）ヨハネ１４章２６節、箴言４章６節、ヘブル１１章６節には聖霊と知恵と信仰に満たされることがなぜ大切かが書かれています。これらの御言葉の中で、あなたの心に残る言葉は何ですか。
６）私たちは具体的にどのようにして、聖霊と知恵と信仰に満たされることができますか。
７）足元の小さなことに目を留めることにより、私たちは遠くまで歩き続けることができます。「小事に忠実な人は、大事にも忠実である。そして、小事に不忠実な人は大事にも不忠実である」（ルカ１６章１０節）。あなたが自分や周りの人間を観察する時、このイエス様の言葉は正しいと思いますか。
