私は天地の創り主なる神を信じる

Last Sunday, we concluded our message series on the “Sermon on the Mount”. 先週の日曜日、「山上の説教」のメッセージシリーズが終わりました。
Pastor Okura spoke on a “Life Built on a Solid Foundation” from Matthew 7:24-27. 大倉牧師は、マタイによる福音書７章２４節−２７節から「堅固な土台の上に築かれた人生」について語りました。
We were given exhortation to be wise and to be prepared for the sure to come trials and tribulations in our lives, as well as for Jesus’ sure return. 私達は賢く、私達の人生に必ず訪れる試練や苦難、そしてイエス様の確実な再臨に備えるようにと勧められました。
As Jesus instructed, we do this by building our foundation upon Him, and we do this by continually hearing His words and putting them into practice イエス様が指示されたように、私達はイエス様の上に土台を築き、絶えずイエス様の御言葉を聞き、それを実践することによってこれを行うのです。
Talking about the solid foundation that we as followers of Christ are building our lives upon, this is what the apostle Paul wrote to the believers in Ephesus. キリストに従う者として、堅固な土台に私達の人生を築くということについて、使徒パウロはエペソの信徒達にこんな言葉を書き送りました。
Ephesians 2:19-22（エペソ人への手紙２章１９節—２２節）
19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints, and are of God’s household, 20 having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus Himself being the corner stone, 21 in whom the whole building, being fitted together, is growing into a holy temple in the Lord, 22 in whom you also are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit. 19そこであなたがたは、もはや異国人でも宿り人でもなく、聖徒たちと同じ国籍の者であり、神の家族なのである。20またあなたがたは、使徒たちや預言者たちという土台の上に建てられたものであって、キリスト・イエスご自身が隅のかしら石である。21このキリストにあって、建物全体が組み合わされ、主にある聖なる宮に成長し、22そしてあなたがたも、主にあって共に建てられて、霊なる神のすまいとなるのである。
Teachings of the apostles and prophets, and Christ Jesus Himself, is the foundation on which our lives as a church, the people of God, is built upon. 使徒と預言者の教え、そしてキリスト・イエス御自身の教えは、神の民である教会としての私達の生活がその上に築かれる土台です。
A question that I sometimes get asked as a pastor is, “What kind of church do you pastor?” 牧師として時々聞かれる質問に「どのような教会を牧会されているのですか？」というものがあります。
I may simply answer this by saying, “It is a Christ centered, Bible teaching, evangelical church.” 私はこれに対して「キリストを中心とし、聖書を教える福音的な教会です」と答えるだけかもしれません。
Sometimes I get asked, “What denomination is your church a part of?” 時々「あなたの教会はどんな教派ですか？」と聞かれることがあります。
To this, I often have to go into a longer explanatory answer, such as, “The church is a part of what is called the OMS Holiness Church of North America, それに対して私は「教会はOMS北米ホーリネス教会と呼ばれるものの一部で、
which is made up of 17 churches in California, Hawaii, and 1 in Arizona.” カリフォルニア、ハワイにある１７の教会とアリゾナにある１つの教会で構成されています」と長い説明をしなければならないことがよくあります。
“Theologically we are historically Wesleyan and similar to the Free Methodist and Nazarene denominations.” 「神学的には、歴史的にウェスレアン派であり、フリー・メソジスト教団やナザレン教団に似ています」となります。
However, what people who ask these questions really want to know is what we believe as a church. しかし、こうした質問をする人々が本当に知りたいのは、私達が教会として何を信じているかということなのです。
If you were asked, “What do you believe?”, what would be your answer? 「何を信じるか」と問われたら、あなたはどう答えるでしょうか。
Jesus summarized what the greatest commandment in the Law was in Matthew 22:34-40. イエス様はマタイ２２章３４節から４０節で、律法の中で最も偉大な戒めとは何かを要約されました。
Matthew 22:34-40（マタイによる福音書２２章３４節—４０節）
34 But when the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together. 35 One of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” 37 And He said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” 34さて、パリサイ人たちは、イエスがサドカイ人たちを言いこめられたと聞いて、一緒に集まった。35そして彼らの中のひとりの律法学者が、イエスをためそうとして質問した、36「先生、律法の中で、どのいましめがいちばん大切なのですか」。37イエスは言われた、「『心をつくし、精神をつくし、思いをつくして、主なるあなたの神を愛せよ』。38これがいちばん大切な、第一のいましめである。39第二もこれと同様である、『自分を愛するようにあなたの隣り人を愛せよ』。40これらの二つのいましめに、律法全体と預言者とが、かかっている」。
There are 613 specific commandments in what is known as the Law handed down by God to the people of Israel through Moses. モーセを通して神がイスラエルの民に伝えた律法と呼ばれるものには、具体的に６１３の戒めがあります。
Thus, answering this lawyer’s question of “which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” was not necessarily an easy thing to do. したがって「律法の中で最も偉大な戒めはどれか」というこの律法学者の質問に答えることは、必ずしも容易なことではありませんでした。
Yet, Jesus clearly and concisely summarized for this lawyer and all of us, しかし、イエス様はこの律法学者と私達すべての人のために、
what is the greatest and second greatest commandment in the Law. 律法の中で何が一番偉大な戒めであり、何が二番目に偉大な戒めであるかを、はっきりと簡潔にまとめてくださいました。
The whole of the Law is summarized in loving God and loving others.律法全体は神を愛し、人を愛することに要約されます。
Jesus said, “On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.” イエス様は言われました。「この二つの戒めの上に、律法全体と預言者が成り立っている」。
This is so much easier to remember and recite than to rattle off the whole Mosaic Law. これは寄せ集められた律法全体を並べ立てるよりも、覚えやすく、暗唱しやすいです。
Just as difficult it was for Jesus to answer the question regarding the greatest commandment in the Law, so it is to answer the question, “What do you believe?” イエス様が律法の最大の戒めに関する質問に答えるのが難しかったように「あなたは何を信じるか？」という質問に答えることも難しいことです。
This is because we have the whole of Scripture in which to refer to in order to answer this question. なぜなら、この問いに答えるために参照すべき聖書全体があるからです。
Because what we believe needs to be founded upon God’s truth, that is the Word of God, the Bible. なぜなら、私達が信じるものは神の真理、すなわち神の言葉、聖書に基づいていなければならないからです。
The validity of this was made clear by both Paul and Peter. その正しさはパウロとペテロによって明らかにされています。
2 Timothy 3:14-17（テモテ第二の手紙３章１４節—１７節）
14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. 14しかし、あなたは、自分が学んで確信しているところに、いつもとどまっていなさい。あなたは、それをだれから学んだか知っており、15また幼い時から、聖書に親しみ、それが、キリスト・イエスに対する信仰によって救に至る知恵を、あなたに与えうる書物であることを知っている。16聖書は、すべて神の霊感を受けて書かれたものであって、人を教え、戒め、正しくし、義に導くのに有益である。17それによって、神の人が、あらゆる良いわざに対して十分な準備ができて、完全にととのえられた者になるのである。
2 Peter 1:19-21（ペテロ第二の手紙１章１９節—２１節）
19 So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. 19こうして、預言の言葉は、わたしたちにいっそう確実なものになった。あなたがたも、夜が明け、明星がのぼって、あなたがたの心の中を照すまで、この預言の言葉を暗やみに輝くともしびとして、それに目をとめているがよい。20聖書の預言はすべて、自分勝手に解釈すべきでないことを、まず第一に知るべきである。21なぜなら、預言は決して人間の意志から出たものではなく、人々が聖霊に感じ、神によって語ったものだからである。
So, what we believe needs to be based upon the Holy Spirit inspired Word of God. ですから、私達が信じるものは、聖霊の霊感を受けた神の言葉に基づく必要があります。
As Jesus summarized the greatest commandment in a concise manner, churches have statements of faith to be able to respond to the question of “What do you believe?” イエス様が最大の戒めを簡潔にまとめたように、教会も「あなたは何を信じますか」という質問に、
in an easy to answer concise manner based on the Bible. 聖書に基づいて簡潔に答えやすいように信仰声明を持っています。
Like most churches and denominations have, we as the San Diego Japanese Christian Church also have a statement of faith for our church. 多くの教会や教派がそうであるように、私達サンディエゴ日本人キリスト教会も、教会の信仰声明を持っています。
Usually, these are clearly posted on a church’s website. 通常、これらは教会のウェブサイトに明確に掲載されています。
By reading this statement you are able to know what the church believes. この声明文を読むことで、教会が何を信じているのかを知ることができます。
On our church website, this can be found under the heading of “What We Believe” on our Get to Know Us page. 私達の教会のウェブサイトでは「教会の紹介」ページの「私達の信仰」という見出しの中に掲載されています。
Although it is a concise and clear statement that explains what the foundational beliefs of our church are, it is still a bit long. これは私達の教会の基本的な信条が何であるかを説明する簡潔で明確な声明ですが、それでも少し長いです。
Thus, we as a church use the Apostles’ Creed, which is a more universally recognized statement of faith, as something we recite each week in the worship service. そのため、私達の教会では、より普遍的に認められている信仰告白である使徒信条を、毎週礼拝の中で唱えています。
Since we recite this creed every Sunday, Pastor Okura and I thought it would be good to go over each of the faith statements contained within it, せっかく毎週日曜日にこの信条を唱えているのだから、信条に含まれている信仰表明を一つ一つ確認し、
so that we can appreciate and affirm them even more. より深く理解し、確認できるようにしたいと、大倉牧師と私は考えました。
Therefore, starting today, we are beginning a message series on “The Apostles’ Creed”.そこで、今日から「使徒信条」についてのメッセージシリーズを始めます。
The reason we use the Apostles’ Creed is because it has been used by Christians as a statement of belief from early on in the Church’s history. 私達が使徒信条を使う理由は、それが教会の歴史の初期から、クリスチャンによって信仰の声明として使われてきたからです。
The earliest documented reference to the current Apostles’ Creed is from a letter to Pope Siricius in A.D. 390. 現在の使徒信条に関する最も古い文献は、西暦３９０年の教皇シリシウスに宛てた手紙です。
The creed was used as a confessional statement for people preparing for baptism. 当時、この信条は洗礼の準備をする人々の告白文として使われました。
It is a powerful tool for teaching Christian doctrine that a person can access from memory. この信条はキリスト教の教義を教えるための強力なツールであり、これを記憶することにより、この狭義にアクセスすることができます。
So, when we recite it, we are acknowledging the wisdom of the ancient Church in creating a clear and concise statement of faith based on God’s Word. ですから、私達がこの信条を暗唱するとき、神の御言葉に基づく明確で簡潔な信仰表明を作成した古代教会の知恵を知ることになるのです。
Since we recite The Apostles’ Creed every Sunday in our worship services, you are already familiar with it. 私達は毎週日曜日の礼拝で使徒信条を暗唱しているので、皆さんは既にこの信条をよくご存知でしょう。

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.
我は天地の造り主、全能の父なる神を信ず。
Between today and next Sunday, we will look in detail at this statement of faith regarding who we know and understand as the first person of the Triune God, who is God the Father. 今日から来週の日曜日にかけて、私達が知っている三位一体の神の第一格である父なる神について、この信仰表明を詳しく見ていくことにしましょう。
Although in English, the statement regarding God begins with “the Father Almighty,” in Japanese it begins with “Creator of heaven and earth”. 英語では、神に関する声明は「全能の父」で始まりますが、日本語では「天地の創造主」で始まります。
Thus, today, I will be focusing on our belief in God being the Creator of heaven and earth, というわけで、今日は神が天地の創造主であるという私たちの信仰に焦点を当て、
and next Sunday, Pastor Okura will focus on our belief in God, the Father Almighty. 来週の日曜日は大倉牧師が全能の父なる神への信仰に焦点を当てます。
God is the Creator of heaven and earth. 神は天地の創造主です。
This is easily discernable from reading the Bible, for the very beginning of the Bible makes this clear. このことは聖書を読めばすぐにわかることで、聖書の冒頭で明らかにされているからです。
Genesis 1:1（創世記１章１節）
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. はじめに神は天と地とを創造された。
The “beginning” here is the beginning of the creation of the cosmos, not the beginning of all things. ここでの「始まり」は宇宙創造の始まりであって、万物の始まりではありません。
It is quite obvious that God existed before all things, and we understand from other passages of Scripture that Heaven (with a capital H) 神が万物より先に存在したことは明らかであり、神が住まう天（大文字のH）が、
where God dwells existed before the creation of the cosmos (heavens, that is the sky and space, and the earth). 宇宙（天、すなわち空と宇宙空間と地）の創造より先に存在したことは、聖書の他の箇所からも理解できます。
Genesis has been called “the book of beginnings” because it records the beginning of so many things. 創世記は、非常に多くの物事の始まりが記されているため「始まりの書」と呼ばれています。
It has also been suggested that it should be considered a book of foundations.また、創世記は基礎の書であるとも言われています。
If you have never read Genesis, I encourage you to do so, because it explains some foundational truths pertaining to the Christian faith. もし、皆さんが創世記を一度も読んだことがないようでしたら、読まれることをお勧めします。なぜなら創世記はキリスト教信仰に関わる基礎的な真理を説明しているからです。
As mentioned already, we believe in a Triune God, who is One but made up of three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. すでに述べましたように、私達は三位一体の神を信じています：それは 父、子、聖霊からなる一つのお方です。
As such, we understand that all three Persons of the Triune God were involved with the creation of the heavens and the earth. そのため、私達は三位一体の神の三つの位格すべてが天地創造に関わったと理解しています。
In Genesis, the Hebrew word translated “God” (’elohim) is a plural noun. 創世記において「神」と訳されているヘブライ語（「エロヒム」）は複数名詞となっています。
The writers of the Bible used ’elohim as a title of honor. 聖書の作者たちは「エロヒム」を敬称として用いていました。
Though it is plural in form, it is singular in meaning when referring to the true God, and it represents the Creator’s transcendent relationship to His creation. 形としては複数形ですが、真の神を指す場合は単数形であり、それは創造主と被造物との超越的な関係を表しています。
Yes, we believe that God created the heavens and the earth. そう、私達は神様が天地を創造されたと信じています。
The truth and thus belief in God as being our Creator is clearly found throughout the Bible. 神様が私達の創造主であるという真理とその信仰は、聖書を通してはっきりと見出すことができます。
Psalm 121:1-2（詩篇１２１篇１節—２節）
1 I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? 2 My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. 1わたしは山にむかって目をあげる。わが助けは、どこから来るであろうか。2わが助けは、天と地を造られた主から来る。
Ecclesiastes 12:1（伝道の書１２章１節）
Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, “I have no delight in them”; あなたの若い日に、あなたの造り主を覚えよ。悪しき日がきたり、年が寄って、「わたしにはなんの楽しみもない」と言うようにならない前に、
Isaiah 40:28（イザヤ書４０章２８節）
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. あなたは知らなかったか、あなたは聞かなかったか。主はとこしえの神、地の果の創造者であって、弱ることなく、また疲れることなく、その知恵ははかりがたい。
Listen to Barnabas and Paul’s clear statement regarding God as the Creator of the heavens and the earth, バルナバとパウロが、天と地の創造主である神について、
especially as they were mistaken as being Greek gods and as a crowd of people were wanting to offer a sacrifice to them. 特にギリシャ神話の神々であると誤解され、多くの人達が生贄を捧げようとしている時、はっきりと述べたことに耳を傾けましょう。
Acts 4:14-15（使徒行伝４章１４節—１５節）
14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out 15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.” 14ふたりの使徒バルナバとパウロとは、これを聞いて自分の上着を引き裂き、群衆の中に飛び込んで行き、叫んで １5言った、「皆さん、なぜこんな事をするのか。わたしたちとても、あなたがたと同じような人間である。そして、あなたがたがこのような愚にもつかぬものを捨てて、天と地と海と、その中のすべてのものをお造りになった生ける神に立ち帰るようにと、福音を説いているものである」。
We all have a worldview, that is a lens by which we view the world. 私達は皆、世界を見るレンズとなる世界観を持っています。
The Bible does not discuss the subject of evolution. 聖書は進化論について論じていません。
The Bible’s worldview assumes God created the world. 聖書の世界観は、神が世界を創造したとしています。
The Biblical view of creation is not in conflict with science; rather, it is in conflict with any worldview that starts without a creator. 聖書の創造観は科学と対立するものではなく、むしろ、創造主なしに始まるあらゆる世界観と対立するものなのです。
For both students of the Bible and of science, the most important aspect of the continuing discussion is not the process of creation, but the origin of creation. 聖書を学ぶ人にとっても、科学を学ぶ人にとっても、継続的な議論において最も重要なのは、創造の過程ではなく、創造の起源なのです。
The Bible makes it clear that the world we live in is not a product of blind chance and probability, but rather it was created by God with a clear intent and purpose.
聖書は、私達の住む世界は、盲目的な偶然と確率の産物ではなく、明確な意図と目的を持って神によって創造されたことを明らかにしています。
When we hold to this view of the world, then we understand that there is intelligent design and purpose to how the world is and operates. このような世界観をもつ時、私達は世界がどのように存在し、どのように動いているのかということについて、そこに知的設計と目的があることを理解します。
The Bible not only tells us that the world was created by God, but more importantly tells us who this God is. 聖書は、世界が神によって創造されたことを教えてくれるだけではなく、さらに重要なことは、その神が誰であるかを教えてくれるのです。
We can know God’s personality, His character, and His plan for His creation. 私達は神様の人格、性格、被造物に対する神の計画を知ることができるのです。
How we admire the various creations of our children. 私達は子供達の様々な作品を賞賛します。
A handmade card that they made for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. 母の日や父の日に作った手作りのカード。
A drawing that they did in school or even as an activity at home. 学校でしたことや、家庭でしたことを描いた絵。
If you are like me, I have a bunch of these things in my house even after many years. もしあなたが私のようなら、何年経ってもこういうものが家にたくさんあります。
If we value the small and rather fragile creations of our children and enjoy them, should we not also value God’s wonderful creation and enjoy it? 子供達の小さくて壊れやすい創造物を大切にして楽しむなら、神様の素晴らしい創造物も大切に、楽しむべきではないでしょうか。
Have you ever seen a beautiful sunrise or a wonderful sunset? 美しい日の出や素晴らしい夕日を見たことがあるでしょうか？
Have you ever taken the time to admire a blue sky or even large fluffy clouds in the sky? 青い空や、空に浮かぶ大きなふわふわした雲をじっくりと眺めたことがあるでしょうか。
Have you ever sat on the beach just watching the mighty waves come in and go out? 浜辺に座って、寄せては返す力強い波をただ眺めたことがあるでしょうか。
Have you ever seen the beautiful wildflowers bloom on the hills in the spring time? 春の野山に咲く美しい野草を見たことがあるでしょうか。
Have you seen an impressive rainbow soar across the sky after it rains? 雨上がりの空に印象的な虹がかかるのを見たことがあるでしょうか。
Have you ever looked at the stars at night, especially out in the desert? 夜、特に砂漠で星を見たことがあるでしょうか？
Have you ever taken the time to look at all the unique and different animals at the zoo? 動物園でユニークな動物をじっくり見たことがあるでしょうか。
God did not create the heavens and the earth for us to destroy it or to be disgusted with it. 神様が天と地を創造したのは、私達がそれを壊したり、嫌悪したりするためではありません。
God created the heavens and the earth for us to enjoy it and to take good care of it. 神様が天地を創造されたのは、私達がそれを楽しみ、大切にするためなのです。
And yes, God created us when He created the heavens and the earth. そう、神様は天と地を創造された時、私達を創造されたのです。
The Bible tells us that God created the heavens and the earth and everything in them in six days. 聖書には、神が天地とそこにあるすべてのものを６日間で創造されたと書かれています。
And at the end of the sixth day of creation, after everything else was made and put in place for us to enjoy, God created us. そして、天地創造の６日目の終わりに、他のすべてが造られ、私たちが楽しめるように配置された後、神は私達を創造されました。

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” 26神はまた言われた、「われわれのかたちに、われわれにかたどって人を造り、これに海の魚と、空の鳥と、家畜と、地のすべての獣と、地のすべての這うものとを治めさせよう」。27神は自分のかたちに人を創造された。すなわち、神のかたちに創造し、男と女とに創造された。28神は彼らを祝福して言われた、「生めよ、ふえよ、地に満ちよ、地を従わせよ。また海の魚と、空の鳥と、地に動くすべての生き物とを治めよ」。

He created us in His own image. Both male and female, that is all of us, are created in the image of God. 神様は私達を神のかたちに創造されました。 男性も女性も、つまり私達は皆、神に似せて創造されました。
Thus, we bear the mark of God’s loving character and creativeness in our DNA. したがって、私達のDNAには神の愛に満ちた人格と創造性の印が刻まれているのです。
As such, as David declared in Psalm 139:14, we are “fearfully and wonderfully made”! ダビデが詩篇１３９篇１４節で宣言したように、私達は「恐ろしく、そして素晴らしく造られた」のです！
We were not created last as part of God’s creation of the heavens and the earth because we were an afterthought. 私達が神の天地創造の一部として最後に造られたのは、私達が後づけだったからではありません。
