父の日に、自分の父について考えるとき、放蕩息子のたとえ話を思い出します。このたとえ話は、イエス様がパリサイ人や律法学者の不平不満に答えるために語った三つのたとえ話のうちの三つ目のものです。

そこでイエスは、当時のユダヤ教の宗教指導者であったパリサイ人や律法学者たちの不平不満に応えるために、罪人に対する神の愛について三つのたとえ話をしました。これらのたとえ話で、失われた羊、失われた銀貨、失われた息子について語りました。イエス様がこのたとえ話をした主な目的は、パリサイ人や律法学者に、神がどれほど失われた罪人を大切にし、歓迎し、彼らが悔い改めて神に立ち返る時、そのことをどれほど喜ばれるかを示すことでした。愛に満ちた父なる神がいつも待っている、本当に家と呼べる場所を持つ人は幸いであります（本多）。

Happy Father’s Day!　 ハッピーファザーズディー！

What a blessing to have so many fathers and father-like figures in our church this morning!　 今朝、私達の教会にたくさんのお父さん、そしてお父さんのような方がいることはなんという祝福でしょう！

Those of you who went camping, I pray and trust that you had a great time.　 キャンプに行かれた方、素晴らしい時間を過ごされたことを祈り、信じています。

Dads, are you feeling God’s love for you this morning?　 お父さんたち、今朝、神様の愛を感じていますか？

Has your family already showered you with their love for you this morning?　 今朝、あなたの家族はすでにあなたに愛を注いでくれましたか？

Don’t worry, the day is still young.  There will be plenty of time to enjoy this day.　 　　　心配しないでください、まだ今日は始まったばかりです。今日を楽しむ時間はたっぷりあります。

And there will be curry lunch for us to enjoy together after this worship service.　 そして、この礼拝の後には、一緒に楽しむためのカレーランチが用意されています。

This will be the fifth Father’s Day in which I have not had my dad around to wish him a Happy Father’s Day.　 私にとって父の日を祝う日に、その父が側にいないのは、今回で五回目になります。

The last time that I was able to celebrate Father’s Day with him was in 2020.　 父の日を一緒に祝うことができたのは、２０２０年が最後となりました。

Although I miss my dad, I am filled with joy and comfort in knowing that he is now with God in heaven because of his faith in Jesus Christ.　 父に会えなくなるのは寂しいが、イエス・キリストへの信仰ゆえに、父が今、天国で神と共にいることを知り、喜びと慰めに満ちています。

I also thank God that He gave me a dad here on this earth that truly loved and encouraged me throughout my life.　 また、私の人生を通して私を心から愛し、励ましてくれた父をこの地上に与えてくれたことを神様に感謝しています。

One of the precious memories I have of my dad is that while he was healthy, 父との大切な思い出のひとつは、父が元気だった頃、

he always saw me off when I left his house by standing in the driveway until I was out of sight.　私が家を出る時はいつも、私が見えなくなるまで車道に立って見送ってくれたことです。

I would often look toward him as I turned the corner as I drove away.　 私は角を曲がる時、よく父のほうを見ながら車を走らせていました。

That image of my dad seeing me off is seared into my memory.　 父が私を見送ってくれたその姿は、私の記憶に焼きついています。

It is wonderful to have good images stored away in your memory of the people you love.　 愛する人の良いイメージを記憶の中にしまっておくことは素晴らしいことです。

Remembering my dad in this way also brings comfort and peace to me.　 こうして父を思い出すことで、私にも慰めと平安がもたらされます。

It is a reminder that I have a place that I can always go back to and will be welcomed.　 私にはいつでも戻れる場所があり、歓迎されるということを思い出させてくれる。

When I think about my dad standing outside of the house seeing me off, it also reminds me of the father in Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son.　 家の外に立って私を見送る父を思うと、イエス様の「放蕩息子」のたとえ話に出てくる父を思い出します。

Most of you may be familiar with that parable but just in case you are not, let me read it for you.　 ほとんどの人はそのたとえ話を知っているかもしれないが、念のため読んでみましょう。

Luke 15:11-24（ルカ１５章１１節—２４節）

¹¹ And He said, “A man had two sons. ¹² The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the estate that falls to me.’ So he divided his wealth between them. ¹³ And not many days later, the younger son gathered everything together and went on a journey into a distant country, and there he squandered his estate with loose living. ¹⁴ Now when he had spent everything, a severe famine occurred in that country, and he began to be impoverished. ¹⁵ So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. ¹⁶ And he would have gladly filled his stomach with the pods that the swine were eating, and no one was giving anything to him. ¹⁷ But when he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have more than enough bread, but I am dying here with hunger! ¹⁸ I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.”’ ²⁰ So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. ²¹ And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ ²² But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; ²³ and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; ²⁴ for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate. ¹¹また言われた、「ある人に、ふたりのむすこがあった。¹²ところが、弟が父親に言った、『父よ、あなたの財産のうちでわたしがいただく分をください』。そこで、父はその身代をふたりに分けてやった。¹³それから幾日もたたないうちに、弟は自分のものを全部とりまとめて遠い所へ行き、そこで放蕩に身を持ちくずして財産を使い果した。¹⁴何もかも浪費してしまったのち、その地方にひどいききんがあったので、彼は食べることにも窮しはじめた。¹⁵そこで、その地方のある住民のところに行って身を寄せたところが、その人は彼を畑にやって豚を飼わせた。¹⁶彼は、豚の食べるいなご豆で腹を満たしたいと思うほどであったが、何もくれる人はなかった。¹⁷そこで彼は本心に立ちかえって言った、『父のところには食物のあり余っている雇人が大ぜいいるのに、わたしはここで飢えて死のうとしている。¹⁸立って、父のところへ帰って、こう言おう、父よ、わたしは天に対しても、あなたにむかっても、罪を犯しました。¹⁹もう、あなたのむすこと呼ばれる資格はありません。どうぞ、雇人のひとり同様にしてください』。²⁰そこで立って、父のところへ出かけた。まだ遠く離れていたのに、父は彼をみとめ、哀れに思って走り寄り、その首をだいて接吻した。²¹むすこは父に言った、『父よ、わたしは天に対しても、あなたにむかっても、罪を犯しました。もうあなたのむすこと呼ばれる資格はありません』。²²しかし父は僕たちに言いつけた、『さあ、早く、最上の着物を出してきてこの子に着せ、指輪を手にはめ、はきものを足にはかせなさい。²³また、肥えた子牛を引いてきてほふりなさい。食べて楽しもうではないか。²⁴このむすこが死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから』。それから祝宴がはじまった。

This parable is actually the third of three parables that Jesus gave in response to the grumblings of the Pharisees and scribes.　 このたとえ話は、イエス様がパリサイ人や律法学者の不平不満に答えるために語った三つのたとえ話のうちの三つ目のものです。

Luke 15:1-2（ルカ１５章１節—２節）

¹ Now all the tax collectors and the sinners were coming near Him to listen to Him. ² Both the Pharisees and the scribes began to grumble, saying, “This man receives sinners and eats with them.” ¹さて、取税人や罪人たちが皆、イエスの話を聞こうとして近寄ってきた。 ²するとパリサイ人や律法学者たちがつぶやいて、「この人は罪人たちを迎えて一緒に食事をしている」と言った。

So, in response to the grumblings of the Pharisees and scribes, そこでイエスは、当時のユダヤ教の宗教指導者であったパリサイ人や律法学者たちの不平不満に応えるために、who were the Jewish religious leaders of His day, Jesus gave three parables regarding God’s love for sinners.　罪人に対する神の愛について三つのたとえ話をしました。

Since sinners are truly “lost” in their relationship to God, 罪人は神様との関係においてまさに「失われた者」であるため、

this was the theme that Jesus used in bringing home his point.　イエス様は家に帰ることをテーマとして、ご自分の主張を展開されたのです。

So, first, Jesus gave a parable of one sheep that got lost out of a sheepfold of a hundred sheep.　 そこでまず、イエス様は百匹の羊の群れから迷い出た一匹の羊のたとえを話されました。

In telling these parables, Jesus tried to have those who were listening to Him to place themselves in the story.　 このようなたとえ話をするとき、イエス様は話を聞いている人々に、自分自身を物語の中に位置づけさせようとされました。

Thus, Jesus started the parable by asking His audience a question:　 そのためにイエス様は聴衆に質問することからたとえ話を始められました：

Luke 15:4（ルカ１５章４節）

“What man among you, if he has a hundred sheep and has lost one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open pasture and go after the one which is lost until he finds it?”「あなたがたのうちに、百匹の羊を持っている者がいたとする。その一匹がいなくなったら、九十九匹を野原に残しておいて、いなくなった一匹を見つけるまでは捜し歩かないであろうか」。

The point of course is that when we lose something that is valuable to us, we do not just ignore that loss.　 重要なのは、私達にとって価値あるものを失った時、私達はその喪失を無視しないということです。

We go looking for it, and the more valuable what has been lost, we go looking for it until we find it.　 失くしたものが貴重であればあるほど、それを見つけるまで探し続けます。

Think of the time you lost your car keys or your wallet.　 車の鍵や財布をなくした時のことを考えてみてください。

Did you just say, “Oh well, I guess I can do without it.”　 あなたは「まあ、なくても大丈いいや 」と言ったでしょうか。

Of course not, you diligently went looking all over your house for that lost key or wallet until you found it.　 もちろんそうではなく、あなたは、そのなくした鍵や財布を見つけるまで、家中を熱心に探したのです。

A lost sheep needs to be found.　迷子の羊は見つけなければなりません。

Otherwise, it may be permanently lost or attacked by hungry predators.　さもなければ、永久に行方不明になってしまうか、飢えた肉食動物に襲われてしまうかもしれません。

In the parable, Jesus then reminds them of the great joy there is in finding that which was lost.イエス様はこのたとえ話の中で、失われたものを見つけることの大きな喜びを彼らに思い出させました。

Luke 5:5-7（ルカ５章５節—７節）

⁵ When he has found it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. ⁶ And when he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!’ ⁷ I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. ⁵そして見つけたら、喜んでそれを自分の肩に乗せ、⁶家に帰ってきて友人や隣り人を呼び集め、『わたしと一緒に喜んでください。いなくなった羊を見つけましたから』と言うであろう。⁷よく聞きなさい。それと同じように、罪人がひとりでも悔い改めるなら、悔改めを必要としない九十九人の正しい人のためにもまさる大きいよろこびが、天にあるであろう。

Jesus’ main point in telling this parable was to show the Pharisees and scribes how much God values and welcomes lost sinners イエス様がこのたとえ話をした主な目的は、パリサイ人や律法学者に、神がどれほど失われた罪人を大切にし、歓迎し、

and rejoices over them when they repent and turn to Him.　彼らが悔い改めて神に立ち返る時、彼らを喜ばせられるかを示すことでした。

So, Jesus tells another parable, which this time has to do with one lost silver coin out of a set of ten such coins.　 そこでイエス様は、今度は１０枚の銀貨のうち、１枚の銀貨を失ったことに関連する、もう一つのたとえ話をします。

In similar manner as the first one, Jesus tells this next parable.　 最初のたとえ話と同じように、イエス様はこのようなたとえを話されます。

Luke 15:8-10（ルカ１５章８節—１０節）

⁸ “Or what woman, if she has ten silver coins and loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?” ⁹ When she has found it, she calls together her friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I have found the coin which I had lost!’ ¹⁰ In the same way, I tell you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” ⁸また、ある女が銀貨十枚を持っていて、もしその一枚をなくしたとすれば、彼女はあかりをつけて家中を掃き、それを見つけるまでは注意深く捜さないであろうか。⁹そして、見つけたなら、女友だちや近所の女たちを呼び集めて、『わたしと一緒に喜んでください。なくした銀貨が見つかりましたから』と言うであろう。¹⁰よく聞きなさい。それと同じように、罪人がひとりでも悔い改めるなら、神の御使たちの前でよろこびがあるであろう」。

Again, Jesus’ main point was to show how much God values and welcomes lost sinners 繰り返しになりますが、イエス様の要点は、神様が失われた罪人をどれほど大切にし、歓迎し、

and rejoices over them when they repent and turn to Him.　悔い改めて神に立ち返る時、彼らを喜ばれるかを示すことでした。

Sinners should know that God is diligently looking for them.　 罪人は、神様が熱心に探しておられることを知るべきなのです。

And the courts of heaven are full of praise when a sinner turns to God.　 そして、罪人が神様に立ち返る時、天の法廷は賛美に満ちているのです。

Thus, the parable of the lost son was also told by Jesus to bring home the same point as the first two parables.　 このように、失われた息子のたとえ話もまた、最初の２つのたとえ話と同じポイントを持ち帰るためにイエス様によって語られたものです。

However, this third parable which was read a little earlier, hits closer to home.　 しかし、先に読みました、この第三のたとえは、私達により身近なところにあります。

This is because for this parable, it has to do with a family and focuses on the relationship between a father and his sons.　 というのも、このたとえ話は家族に関係するものであり、父親と息子たちの関係に焦点を当てているからです。

Jesus wants us to see and understand the love and kindness of God as our Father through the actions of the father in the parable.　 イエス様は、たとえ話に出てくる父親の行動を通して、私たちの父である神の愛と優しさを見、理解してほしいと願っておられます。

The parable is made up of three primary characters.　 このたとえ話は、三人の主な登場人物で構成されています。

It is quite evident that in the parable, the father pictures God.　 このたとえ話の中で、父親が神を象徴していることは明らかです。

The wayward son symbolizes lost sinners, especially the tax collectors and sinners mentioned in Luke 15:1, and if we are honest with ourselves, depicts all of us.　 道を踏み外した息子は、迷える罪人、特にルカによる福音書１５章１節に記されている取税人や罪人を象徴しています。

The older son represents the self-righteous leadership, the Pharisees and scribes mentioned in Luke 15:2.　 年上の息子は、ルカによる福音書１５章２節に登場する自称義人である指導者たち、パリサイ人や律法学者を表しています。

So, we are to place ourselves in the story as one of the two sons in the parable.　 つまり、私たちはこのたとえ話に登場する二人の息子の一人として、物語の中に身を置くことになるのです。

What I read a little earlier, focuses on the relationship between the father and the younger son.　 先に読んだのは、父親と下の息子の関係に焦点を当てたものです。

We will get to the older son a little later.　 年上の息子については、もう少し後で説明します。

However, given the two previous parables, Jesus truly wants us to see God the Father’s heart for the lost.　 しかし、先の2つのたとえ話を踏まえると、イエス様は私達に父なる神の失われた者に対する心を本当に知ってほしいと願っておられます。

He wants us to place ourselves in the place of the lost son to experience firsthand how much God loves lost sinners.　 失われた罪人を神様がどれほど愛しておられるかを身をもって体験するために、私達が失われた息子の立場に立つことを望んでおられるのです。

Overall, the parable gives more attention to the father and his reaction than to the son’s return.　 全体として、このたとえ話は息子の帰還よりも、父親とその反応に注意を向けています。

As we will see later, we can see the same with the father’s interaction with the older son.　 後述するように、父親と長男とのやりとりも同じです。

So, let us focus particularly in the details of the father in the parable.　 そこで、このたとえ話における父親の細部に特に注目してみましょう。

First of all, we can see how generous God is toward us, His lost children.　 まず第一に、神様が失われた子である私達に対してどれほど寛大であるかを見ることができます。

When I mean lost children, I mean toward all of us.　 失われた子供達というのは、全ての私達を指しています。

Everything that we have has been provided by God.　 私達が持っているものはすべて、神様が与えてくださったものです。

The sun, the sky, water, air, as well as the means to eat, drink, clothe ourselves, and house ourselves.　 太陽、空、水、空気、そして食べること、飲むこと、着ること、住むこと。

Some of us are better stewards of what God has given to us than others.　 私達の中には、神様が私たちに与えてくださったものを、他の人よりも上手に管理できる人がいます。

Yet, the fact remains that God has provided for all of us.　 しかし、神様が私達全員に与えてくださっていることに変わりはありません。

And He continues to provide for us although we may squander away and mismanage what He has so generously given to us.　 そして、神様が惜しみなく与えてくださったものを、私達が浪費したり、不始末を犯したりすることがあっても、神様は私達に与え続けてくださいます。

I will be the first to say that I have not always been a good manager of the share of the estate that has fallen to me.　 最初に断っておきますが、私は常に、私に与えられた財産の分け前を上手に管理してきたわけではありません。

What I mean by this is, I have not been a good steward of the allocation of wealth that God has given to me.　 つまり、神様が私に与えてくださった富の配分をうまく管理できていなかったということです。

It doesn’t matter if my wealth is more or less than another person’s wealth that God has given to them.　 私の富が神様が他人に与えた富より多いか少ないかは問題ではありません。

What God has given me is what He has willed to give to me.　 神様が私に与えたものは、神様が私に与えようと望まれたものなのです。

The question I am asking myself right now is whether I have made best use of what God has given to me.　 私が今自分に問いかけているのは、神様が私に与えてくださったものを最大限に活用できているかということです。

Some things come to mind when I ask myself this question.　 この問いを自分に投げかける時、いくつかのことが思い浮かびます。

I think of the books on my shelves that I have not read yet.　 本棚にあるまだ読んでいない本のことです。

I think of the clothes hanging in the closet that I have not worn for years.　 もう何年も着ていない服がクローゼットにかかっています。

I think of that “special tool” collecting dust, awaiting to be used for that “special project”.　 「特別なプロジェクト」のために使うのを待ちながら、埃をかぶっている「特別な道具」を思い浮かべます。

Do similar things come to your mind?　 同じようなことがあなたの心にも思い浮かぶでしょうか？

By God’s grace, I have not had to experience starvation or depravation as did the lost son in the parable, 神様の恵みにより、私はたとえ話に出てくる迷子の息子のように飢えや堕落を経験する必要はありませんでしたが、

but that is only because God has been merciful and gracious to me.　それは神様が私に憐れみと恵みを与えてくださったからに他なりません。

I am truly no better than the lost son who squandered his estate away.　 私は本当に、財産を浪費した失われた息子に優る者ではありません。

The lost son also truly knew the kindness and generosity of his father, 失われた息子もまた、父の優しさと寛大さを本当に知っていました。

because he knew he could go back home.　なぜなら彼は自分が家に帰ることができると知っていたからです。‘

He knew that his father treated all who lived under his roof with care.　 彼は父親が彼の屋根の下に住む全ての人を大切に扱っていることを知っていたのです。

That is why when he came to his senses, he decided to go back home to his father.　　　 だからこそ、彼は我に返った時、父のもとに帰ろうと決めたのです。

For the lost son in the parable, it was the realization that his father was a loving man.　 　たとえ話に出てくる失われた息子は彼の父は愛情深い人であることを悟ったのです。

And yes, he returned home with a repentant heart and in true humility, そして、そう、彼は悔い改めた心と真の謙遜さを持って、

not expecting any special treatment from his father as indicated in what he had resolved to do.　自ら決意したように、父からの特別な扱いを期待することなく、家に戻ったのです。

Luke 15:18-19（ルカ１５章１８節—１９節）

¹⁸ ‘I will get up and go to my father, and will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in your sight; ¹⁹ I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me as one of your hired men.”’ ¹⁸立って、父のところへ帰って、こう言おう、父よ、わたしは天に対しても、あなたにむかっても、罪を犯しました。¹⁹もう、あなたのむすこと呼ばれる資格はありません。どうぞ、雇人のひとり同様にしてください』。

Blessed is the person who has a place where they can truly call home.　 本当に家と呼べる場所がある人は恵まれています。

That no matter how difficult life gets, they can go back to a home that is a safe haven.　 どんなに生活が苦しくても、安住の地である家に帰ることができるからです。

This was the case for the lost son in the parable, and that was the case for me in going back home to see my dad.　 たとえ話に出てくる失われた息子がそうであったし、父に会うために家に戻った私もそうでした。

In the parable, we also see the constant and active love of God toward us.　 たとえ話には、私達に対する神様の絶え間ない積極的な愛も描かれています。

Luke 15:20（ルカ１５章２０節）

So he got up and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion for him, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. そこで立って、父のところへ出かけた。まだ遠く離れていたのに、父は彼をみとめ、哀れに思って走り寄り、その首をだいて接吻した。

It is obvious here that the father was probably always on the lookout for his lost son.　 父親がいつも失われた息子を遠くから探していたことは明らかです。

Thus, the moment he saw his son, which was while he was still a long way off, the father felt compassion for him, and ran toward him and embraced and kissed him.　 そのため、まだ遠く離れていた息子を見つけた瞬間、父は息子をあわれみ、息子のほうに駆け寄って彼を抱きしめ、接吻したのです。

Indeed, God is a compassionate Father, who is always looking out for us.　 実際、神様は憐れみ深い父であり、常に私達を見守っています。

He is constantly aware of us and what we are doing and going through, and even how we are feeling.　 私達が何をしているのか、何を経験しているのか、そして私達がどう感じているのかさえも、常に気づいておられます。

And He will run to our rescue, when we need His deliverance and help.　 そして、私達が神様の救いと助けを必要とする時には駆けつけてくださいます。

Please understand the significance here of the father running toward his son.　 ここで、父親が息子に向かって走ることの意味を理解してほしいと思います。

The father may have run toward his son because he wanted to protect him from the community’s judgment of him.　 父親が息子に向かって走ったのは、息子に対する地域社会の裁きから息子を守りたかったからかもしれません。

For what the son had done in asking for the inheritance while his father was living was tantamount to wishing for the death of his father.　 父親が生きている間に相続を求めた息子の行為は、父親の死を願ったに等しいからです。

In no culture is such a thing an acceptable practice, and therefore would receive harsh and swift judgment.　 どの文化圏でも、そのようなことは許されることではないので、厳しく迅速な裁きを受けることになります。

So, the father was looking out for his son, and ran to his son and embraced him.　 だから、父親は息子に気を配り、息子のもとに駆け寄って抱きしめました。

However, the father’s love for his son does not end there.　 しかし、父親の息子への愛はそれだけでは終わりません。

So, next, we see how truly loving and forgiving God is toward us, His lost children who repent and return home to Him.　 そこで次に、悔い改めて神のもとに帰る失われた子である私達に対して、神様がどれほど真に愛と寛容さをもっておられるかを見てみましょう。

Luke 15:21-24（ルカ１５章２１節—２４節）

²¹ And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and in your sight; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ ²² But the father said to his slaves, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand and sandals on his feet; ²³ and bring the fattened calf, kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; ²⁴ for this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found.’ And they began to celebrate. ²¹むすこは父に言った、『父よ、わたしは天に対しても、あなたにむかっても、罪を犯しました。もうあなたのむすこと呼ばれる資格はありません』。²²しかし父は僕たちに言いつけた、『さあ、早く、最上の着物を出してきてこの子に着せ、指輪を手にはめ、はきものを足にはかせなさい。²³また、肥えた子牛を引いてきてほふりなさい。食べて楽しもうではないか。²⁴このむすこが死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから』。それから祝宴がはじまった。

Just like with the other two parables the finding or return of the lost, brings true joy and is to be celebrated!　 他の二つのたとえ話と同じように、失われた者の発見や帰還は真の喜びをもたらし、祝福されるべきものです！

The lost son felt that he was no longer worthy to be called his father’s son.　 迷子になった息子は、自分はもう父の息子と呼ばれるに値しないと感じていました。

Have you ever felt that way?　 皆さんはそう感じたことはないでしょうか？

Have you ever done something that you felt was so bad that you could not show your face to your parents?　 親に顔を見せられないほど悪いことをしてしまったと思ったことがあるでしょうか？

Have you ever done something so bad known as “sin” that you felt God would not forgive you?　 神様に赦されないと思うほど「罪」と呼ばれる悪いことをしたことがあるだろうか。

Notice the swift response of the father to the repentant son’s return home.　 悔い改めた息子の帰還に対する父親の素早い反応に注目してください。

The father not only welcomed his son home, but he welcomed him home royally!　 父親は息子を家に迎えただけでなく、誠実に迎え入れました！

He put on his son the best robe, a ring on his hand, sandals on his feet, and prepared a feast.　 息子に最高の衣を着せ、手には指輪をはめ、足にはサンダルを履かせ、ごちそうを用意しました。

It was going to be a celebratory feast, because for the father:

その父ゆえに、それは祝宴となるはずでした：

“this son of mine was dead and has come to life again; he was lost and has been found” (Luke 15:24). 『このむすこが死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから』。

Wouldn’t you celebrate if your loved one who was dead came back to life?　 死んでしまった愛する人が生き返ったら、あなたは祝わないでしょうか？

That is how God sees us who humbly repent and come to Him.　 謙虚に悔い改めて神のもとに来る私達を、神様はそのように見ておられるのです。

Jesus truly knows how to bring home His point to people, イエス様は、ご自分の言いたいことを人々に伝える方法を本当によくご存じなので、

so he did not end the parable with the celebration of the return of the younger son.　　　たとえ話を下の息子が帰ってきたことを祝うことだけで終わらせませんでした。

Jesus went on to talk about the response of the older son to the younger son’s celebrative and extravagant reception by the father.　 イエス様は次男が父に祝われ、贅沢なもてなしを受けたことに対する長男の反応について話しました。

Luke 15:25-32（ルカ１５章２５節—３２節）

²⁵ “Now his older son was in the field, and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. ²⁶ And he summoned one of the servants and began inquiring what these things could be. ²⁷ And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has received him back safe and sound.’ ²⁸ But he became angry and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him. ²⁹ But he answered and said to his father, ‘Look! For so many years I have been serving you and I have never neglected a command of yours; and yet you have never given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends; ³⁰ but when this son of yours came, who has devoured your wealth with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him.’ ³¹ And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. ³² But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’” ²⁵ところが、兄は畑にいたが、帰ってきて家に近づくと、音楽や踊りの音が聞えたので、²⁶ひとりの僕を呼んで、『いったい、これは何事なのか』と尋ねた。²⁷僕は答えた、『あなたのご兄弟がお帰りになりました。無事に迎えたというので、父上が肥えた子牛をほふらせなさったのです』。²⁸兄はおこって家にはいろうとしなかったので、父が出てきてなだめると、²⁹兄は父にむかって言った、『わたしは何か年もあなたに仕えて、一度でもあなたの言いつけにそむいたことはなかったのに、友だちと楽しむために子やぎ一匹も下さったことはありません。³⁰それだのに、遊女どもと一緒になって、あなたの身代を食いつぶしたこのあなたの子が帰ってくると、そのために肥えた子牛をほふりなさいました』。 ³¹すると父は言った、『子よ、あなたはいつもわたしと一緒にいるし、またわたしのものは全部あなたのものだ。³²しかし、このあなたの弟は、死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから、喜び祝うのはあたりまえである』」。

Notice the sense we get of the older son being left out of the celebration of the return of the younger son.　 長男が次男の帰還を祝う場から取り残されているように感じられることに注目してほしいと思います。

He had to find out about what the celebration was all about by asking one of the father’s servants.　 長男は父の僕の一人に尋ねて、その祝いがどのようなものであったかを知る必要がありました。

Indirectly this is a picture of what it is like for those who do not share in the love and joy of God the Father.　 これは間接的に、父なる神の愛と喜びを分かち合えない人々がどのようなものであるかを表しています。

Notice the response and actions of the older son, and the actions of the father.　 長男の反応と行動、そして父の行動に注目してみてください。

The older son became angry and wanted no part of the celebration of his younger brother’s return home.　 兄は怒って、弟の帰りを祝う会に参加しようとしませんでした。

Here again, we see the humility and love of the father, for he came out and began pleading with his older son to join the celebration.　 ここでまた、父親の謙遜と愛が見られます。父親は出てきて、祝いの席に加わるように長男に懇願し始めたからです。

The command to “Honor your father and mother” was taken seriously in Jesus’ day.　　 イエス様の時代、「父と母を敬え」という命令は真剣に受け止められていました。

So, the actions of the older son dishonored his father just as much as the younger son’s asking for his share of the inheritance.　 ですから長男の行為は、次男が自分の相続分を要求したのと同じように、父親の名誉を傷つけることになりました。

Furthermore, the older son, yelled at his father in frustration and anger, and basically accused his father of being unloving towards him.　 さらに、長男は苛立ちと怒りのあまり父親を怒鳴りつけ、そもそも父親が自分に対して愛情がないと非難しました。

He asserted how faithful and good he had been and how terrible his younger brother had been.　 彼は自分がいかに誠実で善良であったか、弟がいかにひどいことをしてきたかを主張したのです。

But the real anger is found in the following words spoken against his father:　 しかし、本当の怒りは、父親に対して語られた次の言葉にあります：

“and yet you have never given me a young goat, so that I might celebrate with my friends” 「あなたは私に友達と楽しむために子やぎ一匹も下さったことはありません」

“you killed the fattened calf for him.”「彼のためにあなたは肥えた子牛をほふりなさいました」

As a father of five children, I know the challenges of trying to be a good dad.　 私は５人の子供の父親として、良い父親になろうとすることの難しさを知っています。

I know that I fail so often to express true love to my children.　 子供達に真の愛を表現できないことが多いことも知っています。

You will have to ask my children to get an honest answer of whether they think their dad loves them or not,　 子供達が父親から愛されていると思うかどうか、正直に答えるには子供達に聞かなければならず、

but on my part, I am trying to love them with the love that God gives me.　 しかし私の側では、神様が与えてくださる愛で子供達を愛そうとしています。

It’s not a feeling but an attitude that I have towards my children.　 それは感情ではなく、子供達に対する態度なのです。

Do my children feel accepted by me?　 子供達は私に受け入れられていると感じているだろうか？

Do they receive affection from me?　 私からの愛情を受け取っているだろうか？

Are they being affirmed by me?　 子供達は私に肯定されているだろうか？

Many of you may be asking these same questions.　 同じような疑問を抱いている人も多いと思います。

Yet, today’s passage of Scripture, although can be used to teach us how we should be as dads,　 しかし、今日の聖句は、父親としてどうあるべきかを教えるために使われるもしますが、

more importantly it is a picture of the Heavenly Father’s love for us.　 それ以上に重要なことは、天の父の私達への愛を描いていることなのです。

He is a God that gives us freedom (even to make mistakes).　 天の父は私達に自由を与えてくださる神です（たとえ私達が過ちを犯しても）。

He is a God that waits patiently for us to open up and turn to Him.　 私達が心を開き、神に立ち返るのを辛抱強く待ってくださる神です。

He is a God that runs to us and lavishes His mercy and grace upon us.　 私達に駆け寄り、憐れみと恵みを惜しみなく注いでくださる神です。

He is a God that accepts us without reservations, embraces us as His own, and sees us as His child rather than as a servant or a beggar. 私達をためらうことなく、ご自分のものとして受け入れ、召使いや物乞いとしてではなく、ご自分の子供として見てくださる神です。

That is why the father’s final words to his older son are so important for all of us as it relates to our relationship with God the Father. だからこそ、父親が年上の息子に言った最後の言葉は、父なる神と私達の関係に関わる、私達全員にとって非常に重要なのです。

Luke 15:31-32

³¹ “And he said to him, ‘Son, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours. ³² But we had to celebrate and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has begun to live, and was lost and has been found.’” ³¹すると父は言った、『子よ、あなたはいつもわたしと一緒にいるし、またわたしのものは全部あなたのものだ。³²しかし、このあなたの弟は、死んでいたのに生き返り、いなくなっていたのに見つかったのだから、喜び祝うのはあたりまえである』」。

We must remember that if we are indeed children of God, that is, His sons and daughters, もし私達が本当に神の子、つまり神の息子であり娘であるならば、

then we are always with Him, and we can enjoy all that belongs to Him.　私達は常に神と共にあり、神の所有するものをすべて享受できることを忘れてはなりません。

We must also remember that there are lost brothers and sisters who are out there in the world, また、この世界には失われた兄弟姉妹がいることを忘れてはなりません。

and when they are found and come into God’s family, we are to celebrate and rejoice with them.　彼らが見いだされて、神の家族の一員となった時、私達は彼らと共に祝い、喜ぶべきなのです。

Some of us have been blessed to have grown up in a Christian family and may have come to faith in Christ without much rebellion or opposition.　 私達の中には、クリスチャン家庭で育ち、反発や反対を受けることなくキリストを信じるようになった恵まれた人もいるでしょう。

However, some of us may have grown up in difficult and hard circumstances in which the goodness of God was hard to find.　 反対に、中には神のいつくしみを見いだしにくい、困難でつらい状況の中で育った人もいるかもしれません。

Here is the reality.　ここに現実があります。

We are all sinners who have gone astray from God.　 私達は皆、神様から迷い出た罪人なのです。

For in reality, we are all born into this world as lost sinners.　 現実には、私達は皆、失われた罪人としてこの世に生を受けたのです。

For the Bible reminds us that this is in our DNA since Adam and Eve first sinned.　 聖書は、アダムとエバが最初に罪を犯した時から、それが私達のDNAに刻まれていることを思い出させてくれます。

Isaiah 53:6（イザヤ５３章６節）

All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way;われわれはみな羊のように迷って、おのおの自分の道に向かって行った。

Romans 3:23（ローマ３章２３節）

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, すなわち、すべての人は罪を犯したため、神の栄光を受けられなくなっており、

Romans 5:12（ローマ５章１２節）

Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—このようなわけで、ひとりの人によって、罪がこの世にはいり、また罪によって死がはいってきたように、こうして、すべての人が罪を犯したので、死が全人類にはいり込んだのである。

That is why Jesus also wants us to understand that God the Father is always waiting for us with open arms to come home to Him.　 だからこそイエス様は、父なる神はいつでも私達が神のもとに帰ってくることを両手を広げて待っておられることを理解してほしいと願っておられるのです。

This relationship with God as our Heavenly Father is made possible through faith in His Son Jesus Christ.　 天の父である神とのこの関係は、御子イエス・キリストを信じる信仰によって可能となるのです。

John 1:12-13 describes this truth in this way:　 ヨハネ１章１２節から１３節はこの真理をこのように説明しています：

John 1:12-13（ヨハネ１章１２節—１３節）

But as many as received Him (that is, Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.しかし、彼（イエス）を受けいれた者、すなわち、その名を信じた人々には、彼は神の子となる力を与えたのである。それらの人は、血すじによらず、肉の欲によらず、また、人の欲にもよらず、ただ神によって生れたのである。

How this is possible is described for us in the following Bible verses:　 それがどのようにして可能になるかは、次の聖書の箇所に書かれています：

John 3:5-6（ヨハネ３章５節—６節）

Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”イエスは答えられた、「よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも、水と霊とから生れなければ、神の国にはいることはできない。肉から生れる者は肉であり、霊から生れる者は霊である」。

Romans 8:14-15（ローマ８章１４節—１５節）

For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” すべて神の御霊に導かれている者は、すなわち、神の子である。あなたがたは再び恐れをいだかせる奴隷の霊を受けたのではなく、子たる身分を授ける霊を受けたのである。その霊によって、わたしたちは「アバ、父よ」と呼ぶのである。

God’s love for us made this all possible!　 私達に対する神の愛が、このすべてを可能にしたのです！

Romans 5:8-9（ローマ５章８節—９節）

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him. しかし、まだ罪人であった時、わたしたちのためにキリストが死んで下さったことによって、神はわたしたちに対する愛を示されたのである。わたしたちは、キリストの血によって今は義とされているのだから、なおさら、彼によって神の怒りから救われるであろう。

God’s love is unconditional.  It cannot be earned and it cannot be lost.　 神様の愛は無条件です。 それは獲得することも、失うこともできません。

Once you have experienced God’s love, you will not want to run away from Him.　 ひとたび神様の愛を経験すれば、あなたは神様から逃げ出したくなくなるでしょう。

You will also be able to rejoice and celebrate in sharing God’s love with others.　 また、神様の愛を他の人々と分かち合うことを喜び、祝うことができるようになります。

Thankfully, growing up, I always felt that I had a place to return home to.　 ありがたいことに、大人になってからは、私は帰る場所があるといつも感じていました。

In a spiritual and greater way, that is what Jesus is telling us through this parable as it relates to God the Father.　 霊的に、偉大な意味で、イエス様がこのたとえ話を通して私達に語っているのは、父なる神との関係なのです。

For those of you here who are still living at home with your parents, honor them and let them know that you appreciate them.　 ここにいる皆さんの中で、まだ実家で両親と暮らしている人達は、両親を敬い、両親に感謝していることを伝えてください。

For the grads here this morning, remember that your parents love you.　 今朝、ここにいる卒業生の皆さんは、ご両親に愛されていることを忘れないでください。

Some of you will be going away for college or graduate school.　 大学や大学院に進学する人もいるでしょう。

Know that you always have a place where you can return home to receive acceptance, affection, and affirmation.　 いつでも家に帰れば、受け入れてくれ、愛情を注いでくれ、肯定してくれる場所があることを知っておいてください。

Some of you have returned back home or will be returning home having graduated.　 　故郷に戻った人、あるいは卒業して故郷に戻る人もいるでしょう。

Make sure that you continue to honor your parents and let them know that you appreciate them.　 両親を敬い、感謝の気持ちを伝え続けてください。

For those of you here who are dads, share the love of the Heavenly Father with your children by accepting them, giving them affection, and affirming them.　 ここにいる父親である皆さんは、子供達を受け入れ、愛情を注ぎ、受け入れることによって、天の父の愛を子供たちと分かち合ってください。

And most of all point them to the Heavenly Father, そして何よりも、子供達を天の父に導いてください。

so that they will have an eternal home that they will know they can go to in which they will see you again after you are gone.　そうすれば、子供達は、あなたがいなくなった後でも、またあなたに会えるという永遠の家を持つことができるのです。

As dads, let us pray to the Heavenly Father, that our children will have Christ dwell in their hearts through faith and to be grounded and emersed in God’s love.　 父親として、私達は天の父に祈りましょう。子供達が信仰を通してキリストを心に宿し、神の愛に根ざし、そこに浸ることができるように。

For all of us here this morning, let us never forget how deep the Heavenly Father’s love for us is.　 今朝ここにいる私達全員にとって、天の父の私達への愛がどれほど深いものであるかを決して忘れないようにしましょう。

Happy Father’s Day, our Heavenly Father!　 天のお父様、ハッピー・ファザーズ・ディ！

We are truly grateful for Your love and kindness toward us!　 私達に対するあなたの愛と優しさに心から感謝します！
