小学生の頃の夏休みの宿題に「絵日記」というものがありましたが、書くことが思い浮かばず、悩み苦しみただ一行、神妙に「今日もやっぱり今日だった」とか「起きた、食べた、遊んだ、寝た」とそんなことばかりを書いて先生に叱られた記憶が思い起こされます（８月３１日にあわてて一月分の日記を書き始めるからこういうことになるのです）。
しかしながらよくよく考えてみますと、確かに「今日もやっぱり今日だった、起きた、食べた、働いた、寝た」というのが私達の毎日です。しかし、その単調な生活の中で神様からの知恵を得ようという思いをもつことはとても大切です。詩篇１９篇は言っているではありませんか。
『もろもろの天は神の栄光をあらわし、大空はみ手のわざをしめす。この日は言葉をかの日につたえ、この夜は知識をかの夜につげる。話すことなく、語ることなく、その声も聞えないのに、その響きは全地にあまねく、その言葉は世界のはてにまで及ぶ』（詩篇１９篇１節－４節）。
私達が気がつく、気がつかないにかかわらず、天は、大空は神様の栄光をあらわしています。その響きは全地にあまねく、その言葉は世界のはてにまで及んでいるのです。ですから今朝、私達は一つのことを確認したのです。すなわち、神様はいかなる場所でも私達に語りかけてくださっており、それを受け取るのは私達の側の課題であるということです。

天来の知恵が聞こえますか
２０１３年１２月１日
箴言１章２０節―３３節
２０知恵は、ちまたに呼ばわり、市場にその声をあげ、２１城壁の頂で叫び、町の門の入口で語る。２２「思慮のない者たちよ、あなたがたは、いつまで思慮のないことを好むのか。あざける者は、いつまで、あざけり楽しみ、愚かな者は、いつまで、知識を憎むのか。 ２３わたしの戒めに心をとめよ、見よ、わたしは自分の思いを、あなたがたに告げ、わたしの言葉を、あなたがたに知らせる。２４わたしは呼んだが、あなたがたは聞くことを拒み、手を伸べたが、顧みる者はなく、２５かえって、あなたがたはわたしのすべての勧めを捨て、わたしの戒めを受けなかったので、２６わたしもまた、あなたがたが災にあう時に、笑い、あなたがたが恐慌にあう時、あざけるであろう。
このところから今日は三つのことをお話します。まず第一に「神の知恵はどこにでも」ということをお話します。
神の知恵はどこにでも（２０－２１） 「勉強する」ということを考えますと、多くの私達は学校を考えます。確かに学校は文字通り学ぶ場所です。しかし、学校で学ぶことが全てではありません。最近はモンスター・ペアレンツなる親がいて、そんなことは家庭で子供に教えることであって、学校に要求されてもどうしようもないことまで、学校の責任にして激しく詰め寄るといいます。
神学校に在学していた時に教授がよく言っておりました「あなたたちはここで自分が何も分かっていないということを学ぶんです」。今、振り返ってみますとこの教授が言っていたことは正しかったと思います。実際に神学校では自分は何も分かっていないということを知り、そこを出てから教会という実際の現場に出て見ますとさらにその教室で学んでいないことばかりで、今も試行錯誤していますし、きっとこれからもそうでしょう。
人はしばし学校の成績というものに一喜一憂することがありますが、それは束の間のことで、その後に私達がどうなるのかということは全く別の話です。なぜならこの世界は予測のつかないことばかりで、その予測のつかない最たるものは人の心だからです。ある日本の牧師は若い牧師に向かって「築地に行って人間を勉強してきなさい」と言いました。築地には魚を仕入れる人達が集まります。そこには物の流れがあると同時に、人の心の流れもあります。ゆえに様々な人間の思惑や感情が行き来します。そこで人というものを観察し、人間についてよく学びなさい、あなたが向き合うのはまず「神様」であり、次に「人間」なのだからということなのでしょう。
今日の箴言は開口一番、こう語ります『２０知恵は、ちまたに呼ばわり、市場にその声をあげ、２１城壁の頂で叫び、町の門の入口で語る』。
この言葉が意味することはこういうことです。神の知恵は巷で私達に呼ばわり、市場において私達に語りかけ、城壁の頂でも私達に向かって叫ばれ、街の中でも私達に語られている。すなわち、神の知恵は教会だけで語られているのではなくて、また聖書を開いている時だけに語られるものではなく、私達の行く先々において、私達に語りかけているということです。
詩篇８篇を記した記者はこう言いました『3わたしは、あなたの指のわざなる天を見、あなたが設けられた月と星とを見て思います。4人は何者なので、これをみ心にとめられるのですか、人の子は何者なので、これを顧みられるのですか』この記者は月と星を見て、自分は何者なのか。なぜ神はこんな自分を心にとめられるのか、なぜこんな自分を顧みられるのかと問われているのです。その時、彼の手元に聖書はなかったでしょう、夜空を眺めているのですから彼は神殿や宮の中にいたわけでもありません、彼はおそらく荒野かどこかで天を見上げ、無言の月や星から神様に語られたのでしょう。この「私は何者なのか、私が何者であるゆえに、あなたは私を顧みてくださるのか」という問いかけは、この記者を天来の知恵へと導いたに違いありません。
神様は天地に偏在しておられるお方です。そして、この世界の万象を通して今もそのお心を私達に語りかけているのです。思えばこの天来の語りかけをご自身の置かれている環境の中からくみ取られたのがイエス・キリストです。イエス様はその受け取られた天来の知恵を私達にも数多くの譬を用いることによって語られました。
小さなからし種を通して、パン種、塩、真珠、羊、引き網、銀貨を用いて、巷で遊んでいる子供達を通して、放蕩に身を持ち崩した息子の姿を通して、盗賊や負債を負う者達の姿を通してさえも、イエス様は神の国のメッセージをそこから聞き取り、私達に語りかけました。このように考えますのなら、私達の周りにはいくらでも神様からのメッセージ、語りかけがあるのです。

マタイによる福音書２４章にはこの世の終わりについて、その前兆についてイエス様が語られた言葉があります。その中でイエス様は言われました。『32いちじくの木からこの譬を学びなさい。その枝が柔らかになり、葉が出るようになると、夏の近いことがわかる。33そのように、すべてこれらのことを見たならば、人の子が戸口まで近づいていると知りなさい』（マタイ２４章３２節－３３節）。
イチジクの木が目の前にあるのに、それすら目に入らない人もいれば、イエス様が感じられたように、枝にまで、葉にまでその目は向けられ、そこから夏は近いということを悟る人がいます。そして、それのみならず、このイチジクの木の変化から、神の支配とその計画の成就にはプロセスというものがあるのだということにまで見出す人がいます。一本のイチジクの木を前にして私達の間にはこれほどにまで差があるのです。
皆さん、私達はいつも私達の心を柔らかくしてこの世界に響き渡る神様のメッセージにその心を向けていなければなりません。私達が天来の知恵を切に求め、この世界を注意深く観察していくのなら、神様は私達に知恵を与えてくださるのです。そして、その知恵は私達の日々の生活を豊かにし、私達を諸悪から守り、私達にとって何にも代えがたい宝となるのです。二つ目のことです、それは「知恵を拒む」ということです。
知恵を拒む（２２－２５）
２２「思慮のない者たちよ、あなたがたは、いつまで思慮のないことを好むのか。あざける者は、いつまで、あざけり楽しみ、愚かな者は、いつまで、知識を憎むのか。 ２３わたしの戒めに心をとめよ、見よ、わたしは自分の思いを、あなたがたに告げ、わたしの言葉を、あなたがたに知らせる。２４わたしは呼んだが、あなたがたは聞くことを拒み、手を伸べたが、顧みる者はなく、２５かえって、あなたがたはわたしのすべての勧めを捨て、わたしの戒めを受けなかったので、２６わたしもまた、あなたがたが災にあう時に、笑い、あなたがたが恐慌にあう時、あざけるであろう。
二つ目のこと、それは私達が天地に響き渡っている知恵を聞くことを拒み、実際に神様が人間に手を差し伸べ、与えてくださった聖書の言葉を顧みることがないということです。先に私達は日常に語られる知恵に対して意識的に心を向け、それに聞くことができるようにとお話しましたが、ここで言っていることは、意識的にそれを聞くことを拒むということです。
もう何度もお話しておりますが、天来の戒めや知恵を拒む自由、それを探し求め、受け入れる自由が私達一人一人には託されています。度々「聞く耳のある者は聞くがよい」と言われたその言葉はイエス様の本音であり、まさしく聞こうと願うものは私のいうことに聞きなさい、聞く気がない者はそれでもよい、それは全てあなた次第だというのです。しかし、その決断にはその結果が伴うということです。
アップワードウエイにも書きましたが「半沢直樹」というテレビドラマを最近、観ました。観た方も多いかと思いますが、あのような世的なドラマの中にも教えられることがあります。私があのドラマの半沢直樹から学んだことは、半沢はそれが自分の上司であろうが誰であろうが、彼らがなしたこと、否、なしたことのみならず、すべきことをしなかった、そのことの責任を問うているということでした。そう考えれば半沢は当たり前のことをしているのです。
互いの敬意ある間柄というのは、互いにすべき責任を果たしているというところから生まれるのではないかと思います。さらにその責任の采配を相手に任せるということは、その相手に対して最大の敬意を払っているということではないかと思います。そして、その期待に応えようとするところに、それを任せてくれた人に対する敬意のリスポンスがあります。神様が私達に自由意思と責任を与えられたということは、すなわち神様が私達の人生を肯定し、その一つ一つの人生を尊いものとしてリスペクトしておられるということです。
このことに基づいて私達は常に神の知恵の前に立っているのです。神の語りかけと知恵は全地にあまねく、世界の果てにまでおよび、またその知恵は聖書にも具体的に記されているのですから、それは私達の心がけ如何によって聞き得るものです。しかし、同時に私達はそれらを拒む自由もあるのです。
そして、私達がその知恵を拒む時、そのことによって受けなければならないことは、この箴言の言葉によれば『２９彼らは知識を憎み、主を恐れることを選ばず、３０わたしの勧めに従わず、すべての戒めを軽んじたゆえ、３１自分の行いの実を食らい、自分の計りごとに飽きる』ということなのです。自分の行いによって実った実を私達は食さなければならず、自分で一生懸命にたてた計画なのに、それに満足することなく、すなわち、これでいいのだろうか、これが本当に自分の成すべきことなのかと悩みつつ暮らさなければならないというのです。神様はそんな私達のことをあわれみ、私達にこう語られているのです。
２２「思慮のない者たちよ、あなたがたは、いつまで思慮のないことを好むのか。あざける者は、いつまで、あざけり楽しみ、愚かな者は、いつまで、知識を憎むのか。２３わたしの戒めに心をとめよ、見よ、わたしは自分の思いを、あなたがたに告げ、わたしの言葉を、あなたがたに知らせる。
ここには「いつまで」という言葉が三度出てきます。この言葉はどんな時に使うのでしょうか。あなたはいつまでこの過ちを繰り返すのか。いつまで・・・、いつまで・・・、あなたはいつまで私の知恵を拒み、自らの行いの実を食べ、飽きることのない計画を立て続けるのかということです。ということは、もしあなたが心を入れ替えて私の知恵を求めるのなら、いつでも立ち返ってきなさい。私はその時を待っているということです。
マタイ１１章１６節―１９節においてイエス様は先にお話ししたようにどこにでもいる子供の姿をとおして大切な問いかけを私達にしています『今の時代を何に比べようか。それは子供たちが広場にすわって、ほかの子供たちに呼びかけ、 『わたしたちが笛を吹いたのに、あなたたちは踊ってくれなかった。弔いの歌を歌ったのに、胸を打ってくれなかった』と言うのに似ている』。
このイエスの譬には吹かれる笛に合わせて踊らない、弔いの歌を悲しまない子供達を悲しんでいる心が見受けられます。それは、どうして私の投げかけるものを受け止め、それに応答しないのかという嘆きです。神様は古の昔から私の知恵に聞きなさいと言っています。その笛の音は今も全地に響いています。しかし、その音に応答してくれる人がいません。あなたはこの音を聞いていますか。聞こうとしていますか。その知恵によって得る実の収穫を得ていますか。そこから得る知恵と共に己が計画をたてていますか。最後に今、２０１３年の現状といことについてお話しましょう。
２０１３年の現状
今から約２８００年昔、アモスという預言者が神の言葉を受けてこのような言葉を書き記しました。11主なる神は言われる、「見よ、わたしがききんをこの国に送る日が来る、それはパンのききんではない、水にかわくのでもない、主の言葉を聞くことのききんである。12彼らは海から海へさまよい歩き、主の言葉を求めて、こなたかなたへはせまわる、しかしこれを得ないであろう。13その日には美しいおとめも、若い男もかわきのために気を失う（アモス８章１１節－１３節）。
私達の周りには飢饉があるとアモスは預言しました。普通に考える飢饉とは食物が不足している状態を意味します。穀倉地帯や田園に雨が降らず、小麦や米の収穫がなく、それゆえに市場に食物が出回らず、私達の食卓から食物が全くなくなる状態です。今日、不作というものがあったとしても、スーパーや実際の私達の食卓を見れば分かるように、今日、私達の間にこのような飢饉はありません。
しかし、私達は知っています。問題とはいつも目に見えるものだけではないということを。否、かえって目に見えないことにその問題の原因があります。それは目には見えませんから、気がつかれることなく、そのまま長い間放置されます。しかし、そのように放置される期間が長くなればなるほどに、その問題は大きくなります。
アモスが神の言葉としていうところの飢饉は私達の世界に広がっています。それはじわりじわりと私達のコミュニティーに広がり、それは私達のすぐ側、家庭のただ中に蔓延し、私達の心に宿ります。そうです、その飢饉とは「主の言葉を聞く」飢饉です。
暑い夏に脱水症状という症状に私達は見舞われることがあります。本人は何も気が付かないのですが、いつの間にか体内の水分が失われており、気がついた時には危険な状態になっています。同じように「主の言葉」がなくても、不足していても私達は気がつきません。特にこのような忙しい時代に生きていますと、主の言葉について考えさえもしません。しかし「いつの間にか」私達の心は渇ききっているのです。
時々、「何かが違う」「このままでいいのだろうか」というような思いが心を過（よ）ぎりますが、その原因が分からずに、また「そんなことは考えても仕方ない」と、その状況は進行します。今日の箴言の言葉にあるように、その思いと共に己が人生設計を建てますが、「これでいいのだろうか」という思いはぬぐえません。そして、知らぬ間に大変な局面を迎えるというようなことが多々あります。これら私達が抱えている思い、見聞きしている問題の背後にはこの飢饉があります。そうです、主の言葉を聞くことの飢饉です。
この主の言葉とは私達の手元にある聖書の言葉であり、また今日、お話しました私達に語りかけられる天来の知恵を指します。聖書の言葉は霊の糧と言われます。その昔、イスラエルの民が荒野を放浪しました時、神様は彼らに天からマナを与え、それにより彼らの命は保たれましたが、今日、私達は私達の手元にある聖書の御言葉から、そして世界の果てにまで響き渡る神の言葉、すなわち天来のマナを私達の居る所どこででも受け取ることができ、そのマナによって命を得るのです。
イエス・キリストがこの地から目に見えるかたちでいなくなった後、この世界に神様は教会を残されました。その教会が生まれたばかりの時、とても大切なことがイエスの弟子達の間で話し合われました。
2そこで、十二使徒は弟子全体を呼び集めて言った、「わたしたちが神の言をさしおいて、食卓のことに携わるのはおもしろくない。3そこで、兄弟たちよ、あなたがたの中から、御霊と知恵とに満ちた、評判のよい人たち七人を捜し出してほしい。その人たちにこの仕事をまかせ、4わたしたちは、もっぱら祈と御言のご用に当ることにしよう」（使徒行伝６章２節－４節）。
キリストなき後、そのイエスを信じる者が多く起こされました。その数が急増するにしたがい、彼らの間に問題がもちあがりました。そう、それは生きる者の宿命、食事の問題でした。このことは現在も変わらず私達が共有する問題です。「どうやっておまんまを食べるか」という問題です。そして、イエスの１２弟子の間でもこのことに多くの時間が割かれるようになっていったのです。しかし、その時に聖霊は彼らに気がつかせたのでしょう。自分達が食事のことだけに時間をとられるのはよろしくない、私達がすべきことはもっと神の言葉に関わること、祈ることに時間を割くべきであり、そこから神の知恵を受け、このキリストのからだなる教会に集う者達を教え、諭し、導かなければならない。養わなければならない。そのことに私達は関わらなければならない。
この出来事は初代の教会の一つの危機でした。もしこの時にキリストの弟子たちが食事のことに力を注ぎ、やがてそれが教会の主だった働きとなっていましたら、今日の教会は全て、地域社会に今もある慈善団体となっていたでしょう。しかし、神様が教会に託された第一の使命はそこにはないというところに彼らは踏みとどまり、その彼らの決断によって今日の私達の教会があるのです。私達はこの世界に生き、この世界で神の言葉に聴き、その言葉に養われ、使命が与えられ、その行く道を導かれ、目的に向かって一歩一歩、歩んでいくのです。お祈りしましょう。
| Can You Hear the Wisdom from Heaven?(Proverbs 1:20-26)20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech: 22 “How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? 23 If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you. 24 But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, 25 since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, 26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you—From these verses, we will be discussing 3 topics, the first being that, “God’s Wisdom is Everywhere”God’s Wisdom is EverywhereWhen we think about studying, many of us think of school. School is a place to learn, but what we learn at school is not everything. Lately there are parents known as “monster parents”, who push their own responsibilities of teaching their children on to the schools, blaming them for not having taught their children things that logically should have been taught at home.When I went to a seminary school, the professor often said, “Here, you will learn the fact that you know nothing.” Now I look back and I see that the professor was right. In seminary school, you really do learn that you don’t know anything and when you leave to actually serve at a church, you notice all the things you didn’t learn. Even now, I repeat the steps of trial and error, and it will most likely always be that way.
Japan It says at the very beginning of today’s Proverbs, “20 Wisdom calls aloud in the street, she raises her voice in the public squares; 21 at the head of the noisy streets she cries out, in the gateways of the city she makes her speech:” What this means is that God’s wisdom calls to us in the streets, speaks to us in the markets, cries out to us even in the noisy streets and talks to us in the city. Not only is God’s wisdom spoken in the church or when our bibles are open, but it calls out to us everywhere we go. The writer of Psalms chapter 8 said, “3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him?” (Psalm 8:3-4) this writer, seeing the moon and the stars asked, “Who am I? Why does He mind me? Why does God care for a man like me?” He probably didn’t have a bible at hand nor was he at a temple or shrine at that time. He must have been somewhere like a field looking up at the sky, being spoken to through the silent moon and the stars. These questions of, “Who am I? Why does God mind?” and “Why does God care for a man like me?” must have lead this writer to God’s wisdom from Heaven. God is omnipresent in heaven and on earth, and he speaks to us of this fact through all of creation. When you think about it, Jesus extracted wisdom from his surrounding environment. He took them and spoke them to us through parables. Through a small mustard seed, yeast, salt, pearl, sheep, a fishing net, through a silver coin, through the children playing on the street, through the image of the prodigal son, through the form of bandits(thieves) and tax collectors, Jesus heard the message of God’s kingdom and spoke to us. If we think in this way, God’s message is all around us. When I was in elementary school, for summer break, I had a homework assignment to write a picture diary. But doing the assignment, I couldn’t think of what to write and after much languish, I would write one honest lousy sentence like “Today was just today, the way I expected it would be.” or “I woke up, ate, played, and slept.” and I remember being scolded by the teacher. (It was probably because I would rush to do a month’s worth of homework on August 31st) When you really think about it, it is true that our lives are, “Today was just today. I woke up, ate, worked, and slept.” But it is very important that we seek God’s wisdom in these simple days of ours. Psalms chapter 19 says, “1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. 3 There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. 4 Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens he has pitched a tent for the sun,” (Psalm 19:1-4) Whether we notice it or not, the heavens, the sky declares the glory of God. Their voice goes out unto all the earth. Therefore we have confirmed one thing this morning, that God speaks to us, no matter where it may be, and it is up to us whether to accept it or not. 32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.” (Matthew 24:32-33) There are those who do not even notice the fig tree standing right in front of them, and those like Jesus, who see the branches and leaves and perceives that summer is near; those who see the changes in the fig tree and detects that there is a process in which God rules and carries out his plans. There can be this much of a difference between us when one fig tree is put before us. Everyone of us must soften our hearts and be receptive, giving our attention to God’s message resounding throughout this world. If we seek wisdom from heaven and study the world closely, God will give us wisdom. This wisdom will make our lives abundant and rich, protecting us from evil and become an irreplaceable treasure to us. The second topic we will be talking about is “resisting wisdom” Resisting Wisdom “22 “How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? 23 If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you. 24 But since you rejected me when I called and no one gave heed when I stretched out my hand, 25 since you ignored all my advice and would not accept my rebuke, 26 I in turn will laugh at your disaster; I will mock when calamity overtakes you–” (Proverbs 1:22-26) The second thing is that we resist hearing God’s wisdom from heaven and we do not use the bible that God gave to us humans to help guide us. Earlier, we talked about how we must seek and listen for God’s wisdom in our daily lives. But what we are talking about now is intentionally refusing to hear it. I have often spoken of how each one of us have the freedom to refuse or accept the warnings and wisdoms. The frequently repeated words of Jesus “If anyone has ears to hear, let them hear” is Jesus’ true feelings, for those who wish to hear, listen to what I have to say, for those who decide not to listen, that is also fine. It is all up to you. But your decisions will come with its consequences.
Upward Way I believe that a respectful relationship between two people starts by fully carrying out each of their own responsibilities, and furthermore, to trust the other to take full command of their responsibilities is to treat that person with the utmost respect. And the person fully entrusted with carrying out their own responsibilities will respond to the act of respect by working hard to meet the other’s expectations. Therefore, the fact that God gave us free will and full responsibility towards it is God accepting our lives and respecting each and every one of us as something precious. Based on this, we are constantly standing before God’s wisdom. God’s voice and wisdom goes out unto all the earth, their words to the ends of the world and this wisdom is also specifically written for us in the bible so that we may receive it as long as we give it our attention. But, at the same time we have the choice to reject it, and when we reject His wisdom, the consequences we receive according to the words of Proverbs, “29 Since they hated knowledge and did not choose to fear the LORD, 30 since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, 31 they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes.” (Proverbs 1:29-31) We must eat the fruits produced by our own actions and we will never be satisfied with the plans we set before ourselves, forever living with the question of whether or not it is right or if it is really what we should be doing. God took pity on such humans and says “22 How long will you simple ones love your simple ways? How long will mockers delight in mockery and fools hate knowledge? 23 If you had responded to my rebuke, I would have poured out my heart to you and made my thoughts known to you.” (Proverbs 1:22-23) Here he repeats the words, “How long”. When are these words used? How long will you continue to make the same mistakes? How long.., How long..? How long will you continue to reject my advice, eat the fruits of your ways, and continuing your schemes? This is saying, if you repent and seek my wisdom, come to me. I am waiting for you. In Matthew chapter 11:16-19 , Jesus speaks to us through the image of a child. 16 “To what can I compare this generation? They are like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling out to others: 17 ” ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’ 18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and “sinners.” ‘But wisdom is proved right by her actions.” This parable portrays the sight of children who do not dance with the sound of the flute or sorrow with the funeral’s song. Why won’t you except what I have put before you? Why won’t you respond (answer/reply) to it? This is his great sorrow. God has been crying out to us to listen to his words of wisdom since before ancient times. That sound of the flute still echoes (resounds) throughout the earth, but no one will answer. Are you listening to these sounds? Are you seeking it? Are you receiving the fruits of his wisdom? Are you planning your future with the wisdom you receive? Lastly we will be talking about the state of the year 2013. The State of the year 2013 2800 years ago, a profit named Amos received these words from God and wrote them. 11 “The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign LORD, “when I will send a famine through the land– not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD. 12Men will stagger from sea to sea and wander from north to east, searching for the word of the LORD, but they will not find it. 13 “In that day “the lovely young women and strong young men will faint because of thirst. (Amos 8:11-13) Amos prophesied that there is famine among us. Normally a famine would be to have a shortage of food; the lack of rain causing a decrease in crop production causing a food crisis, making it hard for people to put food on their tables. If we had a bad harvest today, as we can see by our supermarkets or dinner tables, that we would not have a famine. But we know that not all problems can be seen with our eyes. Rather then that, the source of our problems are often times cannot be seen. They are left unnoticed because we cannot se it. And the longer it is left untouched, the bigger the problem becomes. The famine that Amos talked about has spread all around the world, throughout our communities, homes and into our hearts. Yes this famine is a famine of hearing God’s word. In the hot summer, sometimes we become dehydrated. We ourselves may not notice it but before we know it our bodies have lost too much water, and by the time we do notice it, we are in a dangerous state of dehydration. In the same way, we do not notice the lack of God’s word in our daily lives. Because we live in an era with so much to do, we may not even think about God’s words. But “before we know it”, we are starved of it. Sometimes we think, “something is not right” or we wonder, “Is it really fine the way things are?” but we cannot figure out what is wrong and we tell ourselves, “there’s no use worrying over it” and we continue on to live in the same state. But as we read today in Proverbs, we plan our future with these thoughts always in mind and we are eventually forced to face a point of crisis. The famine is the basis of the troubling thoughts we have and the problems we see and hear, the famine from being deprived of God’s word. God’s words are the words of the bible right in front of us, and also the wisdom from heaven as we have spoken about today. The words of the bible are said to be the bread of the spirit. When the Israelites wondered through the desert, God provided them with manna from heaven, saving them from starvation. But today, we are able to receive this, “manna from heaven”, whenever and wherever we are from our bibles, to save us from starvation. After Jesus Christ’s visible form left the earth, God gave us the church. When the church was just born, Jesus’ disciples came together to talk about something very important. “2 So the Twelve gathered all the disciples together and said, “It would not be right for us to neglect the ministry of the word of God in order to wait on tables. 3 Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4 and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” (Acts 6:2-4) After Jesus’ departure, many people were brought to Christ. As the numbers increased, the number of problems did as well. It is our fate as humans. The problem of, “How do we feed ourselves?” This has not changed today. This is a problem of, “How do we get food?” And this problem was also discussed over by the 12 disciples. But the Spirit made them realize that this problem is not what they should be spending all of their time on. What we should be spending our time on is on His word and prayer, rather than on what to do for food, and receive His wisdom to support the body of Christ the church. That is what we must do. This was a crisis for the first church. If they had used their strength mainly on their meals, that would have eventually become the main function of the church. The church would have become a charity institution by today. But they realized that that is not what God left the church to do. And that is how our church came to be. We live in this world, receive God’s words from it, sustained by it, given a mission, led through those paths, and move forward step by step to our goal. Let us pray.
