しかし、その時、ふとこう思ったというのです「自分が万物の造り主はいない」と信じている根拠はどこにあるのか。その思いに対して出た答えはたった一つ。「幼い頃から家や学校では造り主がいるとは教えてもらわなかった」という事。たった、それだけの理由で｢神はいない｣と決めつけていた自分に気がついたというのです・・・。

処女降誕を信じますか？ ２０１１年５月２２日
私達は今朝も「使徒信条」を告白しました。そして、私達は４月よりこの使徒信条を礼拝メッセージの中で一つ一つ見ています。今日もその信仰を唱えました中に、こんな一文があります「主は（イエス・キリストのこと）聖霊によりてやどり、処女マリアより生まれ」。
よくよく考えますと、私達はすごい告白をしているのです。すなわちこういうことです。「主イエス・キリストは、男女の関係なしに、聖霊によって、処女マリアから生まれたことを私達は信じます」ということです。
このような言葉を、傍から聞いている人達の中には「いったいこの人達は何を言っているのか！」と驚かれる人達もいるのではないかと思います。しかし、今日、全世界の 約三分の一の人達がこのことを、その信仰の告白としているのです。このところから幾つかのことを見てまいりましょう。まず「聖霊によって宿る」ということです。
聖霊によって宿る
聖書は分厚い書物ですが、その最初のページを開きますと、こう書いてあります「はじめに神は天と地とを創造された」（創世記１章１節）。このとてもシンプルな言葉の前に「これから書くことをあなたたちは信じられないかもしれませんが」というような前文はなく、いきなりこのような言葉が書かれています。その言葉は短くありながら、とてもインパクトのある言葉です。
１８４３年といえば江戸時代の末期となりますが、その年に生まれた新島襄はこの創世記の「はじめに神は天と地を創造された」という言葉に驚きました。なぜなら、それまで彼が見聞きしていた神とは、ただ人間が自分達の願いを叶えてくれることを願って、自分達の手によって作り上げて、小さな箱とか祠（ほこら）の中に置かれ、時が経てばこれまた人間の手によって修繕が必要な神々だったからです。ですから、彼はこの聞いたこともないスケールの大きな聖書の言葉を前に動けなくなってしまったのです。
その後、彼は１０年間、米国に留学し、キリスト教を基礎とした学び舎を建てたいというビジョンと共に帰国しました。時の明治政府も彼のような新しい知識をもった人材を求めており、政府との関係もでき、新島はあの勝海舟にも会い尽力を求めます。勝は彼に「その学校は何年ぐらいかかって成功させるのか」と問い、それに対して新島は「２００年」と答えます。その並々ならぬ情熱と真摯さに勝は協力を惜しまず、皆さんご存知のように彼は今日の同志社大学の創立者となりました。同志社大学のはじまりには「はじめに神は天と地を創造された」という一文によって、自らの生き方を決めた一人の人間の祈りとビジョンがあったのです。
私がまだランチョ・ラコスタ教会という教会にいた１０年以上も前、森繁昇というクリスチャン・ミュージシャンのコンサートをもったことがあります。大勢の人達が集まり、とても楽しいコンサートとなりました。その中で彼はご自身のことについて語っていました。

森繁さんとは異なりますが、私は先日、ニュージーランドにいる世界で雄一、飛べないオウム、カカポという鳥の生態を紹介する番組に釘づけになって観ていました。正式名をフクロウオオムというようですが、なんともズングリむっくりとした、今まで見たこともない鳥で、とても新鮮な印象を受けました。私は４０年以上、生きていながら、そのような鳥がこの地球上にいるということを生まれて始めて知ったのです。その理由はただ一つ、そのような鳥がいるということを、これまでの間、誰も教えてくれなかったからです。しかし、カカポは、そんな私なんぞにおかまいなく、古の昔からニュージーランドに生息していたのです。
森繁さんの問いかけというのはとても的を得たもので、私達自身も「神はいるのか」という問いというものに、人生のどこかで向き合う価値があると思います。ましてや、それが、ただ、自分が学校で学んだことのないことであったとか、そういうことを話してくれる人がいなかった、すなわちその機会がなかったというような、たったそれだけの理由でありますならば、なおさら、この問いかけは取り組む価値のある問いかけなのではないかと思います。なぜなら、その答え如何では私達の世界や各々の人生そのものに対する見方、全てがひっくりかえってしまうからです。
少し前置きが長くなりましたが、この天地創造について、続く創世記１章２節において、こんなことが記されています「地は形なく、むなしく、やみが淵のおもてにあり、神の霊が水のおもてをおおっていた」。これは神が天と地を創造する前の状態です。その時、地は形なく、むなしく、闇が淵のおもてにあり、神の霊が水のおもてをおおっていたというのです。これらの言葉はその時の世界は混沌としており、まだ秩序がないような状態だったということを私達に伝えます。このようなところから神はその創造のみわざを始められたというのです。
そして、今朝、特に注目したいのは「神の霊」というものが、まさしくその創造の現場に既におり、その無から有を生み出す創造に関与していたということであり、今日、見ております「聖霊によって宿り」という、その霊がこの創造の始まりの時にいた「神の霊」と同じものであるということです。ということはどういうことかと言いますと、天地万物の創造に関わっておられた聖霊が、一人の女のうちに、一人の命を宿らせたということであり、それは私達にとっては到底理解できないことでありますが、神にとってはなんら特別に取り上げて驚くべきことではないのです。
皆さん、私達が今、手にとっている書物、聖書は鼻から息をして、やがて土に還っていく人間の武勇伝を書いているのではなくて、「神とそのはたらきについて」記していますゆえに、当然、私達の常識では考えられないことが書かれているのです。
多くの専門家がこの度の東関東大震災の地震と津波の大きさは想定外だったと言っています。その津波はこれなら大丈夫だろうという世界最大の堤防をも越えていきました。どんなに私達が知恵を寄せ集めても私達を取り巻く世界は私達の思いを超えるものなのです。もし、聖書に記されている出来事が全て常識的なことだけであるならば、それは聖書が「神について」書かれている書ではないということになるのです。二つ目のことをお話します。それはイエス・キリストが「処女マリアより生まれた」ということです。
処女マリアより生まれた
今年二月にエルサレムから自動車で１５分ほどの所にあるエン・カレムという段段畑のある小さな村落に行きました。「エンカレム」のエンとは泉という意味で、カレムとはブドウ畑を意味する村で、聖書においては「ユダの山里」といわれているところです。そこには今でも当時からあるという泉から水が湧き出ており、今日それは「マリアの井戸」と呼ばれています。
この小さな村にはかつてバプテスマのヨハネの両親、ザガリアとエリザベツが住んでおり、イエスを身ごもっていたマリアが、エリサベツをこのエンカレムに訪問していたのです。その時のことがルカによる福音書１章３９節－４５節に記されています。
39そのころ、マリヤは立って、大急ぎで山里へむかいユダの町に行き、40ザカリヤの家にはいってエリサベツにあいさつした。41エリサベツがマリヤのあいさつを聞いたとき、その子が胎内でおどった。エリサベツは聖霊に満たされ、42声高く叫んで言った、「あなたは女の中で祝福されたかた、あなたの胎の実も祝福されています。43主の母上がわたしのところにきてくださるとは、なんという光栄でしょう。44ごらんなさい。あなたのあいさつの声がわたしの耳にはいったとき、子供が胎内で喜びおどりました。45主のお語りになったことが必ず成就すると信じた女は、なんとさいわいなことでしょう」。
先ほども言いました、イエスは男と女の関係によらず、聖霊によって、マリアのうちに宿ったのです。その宿った女性の名前を聖書ははっきりと示し、このマリアは聖書の中においても度々、登場し、わが子、イエスの十字架のみもとにもおり、イエスの復活の後にも出てきます。
神の子を産んだというような女性、そのような宿命を背負った彼女がどんな人生を歩んだのか、私達は色々なことを想像します。かえって、このような稀有な使命を背負った女性というのは、早々に姿を消してしまって、イエスの誕生というものをミステリアスなものにしてしまった方が、都合はいいのかもしれません。
しかし、神はこのマリアを後々まで生かしました。人が彼女を見れば、確かに彼女は自分達と同じ人間なのです。そんな彼女が聖霊によって子を宿ったというのですから、ある人達は彼女は気が狂っていると思ったことでしょうし、彼女が死んでから何百年もたつと、彼女を神のような存在としての、聖母として祭り上げる者達もあらわれました。
しかし、彼女はイエスを宿した自分自身というものを一番よく理解していました。先に読みましたエリサベツの言葉を受けたマリアは、その胎にイエスを宿した身で、今日私達が「マリアの賛歌」（マグニフィカト）と呼ぶ言葉を語ったのです。
46するとマリヤは言った、「わたしの魂は主をあがめ、47わたしの霊は救主なる神をたたえます。48この卑しい女をさえ、心にかけてくださいました。今からのち代々の人々は、わたしをさいわいな女と言うでしょう、49力あるかたが、わたしに大きな事をしてくださったからです。そのみ名はきよく、50そのあわれみは、代々限りなく主をかしこみ恐れる者に及びます。51主はみ腕をもって力をふるい、心の思いのおごり高ぶる者を追い散らし、52権力ある者を王座から引きおろし、卑しい者を引き上げ、53飢えている者を良いもので飽かせ、富んでいる者を空腹のまま帰らせなさいます。54主は、あわれみをお忘れにならず、その僕イスラエルを助けてくださいました、55わたしたちの父祖アブラハムとその子孫とをとこしえにあわれむと約束なさったとおりに」（ルカ１章４６節－５５節）。
聖書を読んでいて明らかに分かることは、このマリアという女性は際立って何かに秀でた女性ではなく、当時の結婚習慣を思います時に、彼女はまだ１０代の若々しい女性であったと考えられます。しかし、このマリアの素晴らしさは彼女が神の前に自分自身を本当に謙り、「この卑しい女」と言っていることであり、「そのあわれみは、世々限りなく主をかしこみ恐れる者に及びます」（５０）と言っていることです。
マリアが言わんとすることは、己が人間としての限界を知り、何の力もない一人の女に神の子を宿したという全能の神を崇め、おそれるということです。神様の“やり方”は、心の思いのおごり高ぶる者、己の権力のみに寄りすがる者達にそのご自身をおあらわしにならずに、真理に餓えている者、謙る者にあられみを注いでくださるということです。
そして、このことは聖書を通して、常に神の心の中にあったものなのです。詩篇５１篇１６節、１７節においてダビデは歌っております。
16あなたはいけにえを好まれません。たといわたしが燔祭をささげてもあなたは喜ばれないでしょう。17神の受けられるいけにえは砕けた魂です。神よ、あなたは砕けた悔いた心をかろしめられません。神様が喜ばれるものは、整った動物の生贄ではなくて、立派な燔祭でもなくて、私達の砕けた魂、謙った心だというのです。神はそのような心を軽く取り扱うことがないと聖書は言っているのです。またイエス・キリスト自身もマタイ１１章２５節から２６節においてこういっております
その時、イエスは声をあげて言われた『天地の主なる父よ。あなたをほめたたえます。これらの事を知恵のある者や賢い者に隠して、幼な子にあらわしてくださいました。父よ、これはまことにみ心にかなったことでした』
神のメッセージは幼な子のような心が謙った者に明らかにされることであり、それは神のみ心にまことにかなったことですというのです。すなわち、このような言葉から分かることは、力のないマリアにイエスが宿ったということ自体が、神ご自身が私達に対して、どんなお方であるかということを伝える力強いメッセージなのです。この神の存在は自らの内にある知恵、経験、そして常識というものに対する限界を知る者に明らかにされていくということなのです。最後に皆さんに一つの問いかけをしてこのメッセージを終らせていただきます。
最後の問いかけ
最後です。ここで皆さんに一つの問いかけをしたいのです。それはこういうことです。あなたは「人が神になること」と「神が人となること」、どちらが信じられますか？
世界には数多くの宗教というものがありますが、その多くは「人が神となる」ということをうたっています。あるカリスマ性をもったリーダーが自らを神と言い出す、あるいは回りの者達がそう担ぎ出す。そのような宗教というものは五万とあります。そして、その多くは、自称神である人間のスキャンダルによって衰退していきます。なぜ、それらの自称神がスキャンダルを犯すのか。なぜなら、彼らは神ではなく、人間だからです。
私個人のことを言いますが、私は絶対に「人が神となる」とは思いません。もっと突っ込んで言いますと、私は死後の世界を信じますが、私は死んで神とはなりません。私は確信を持って言っていたことを後でくつがえし、日々、色々な思い違いや過ちを犯す者ですから。手を傷めれば自分で自分の靴の紐も結ぶことが出来ず、今まで読んでいた字すら見えなくなっていくような人間が神になることは、人が生きている間も、死んでからもありえないと思います。
では、どうでしょうか「神が人となる」ということは？私達は全知全能の存在なる方を神と呼ぶのです。そうであるならば、神が人となるということは可能です。私はそのことなら信じることができます。神とはできないことが何一つないお方ゆえに、神と呼ばれているからです。ですから、その神が私達には考えられない方法によって女の胎に宿り、そして、その胎を開いて生まれてきたということも信じることができるのです。
今日はその全てをお話することができませんが、聖書の中にはイエス・キリストの誕生というものを預言した言葉がいくつもあります。その一つ、イエス・キリストがお生まれになる７５０年も前に書かれましたイザヤ書の９章の中にイエスがお生まれになることを記した預言が書かれています。
イザヤ９章はこんな言葉で始まります「しかし、苦しみにあった地にも、闇がなくなる。さきにはゼブルンの地、ナフタリの地にはずかしめを与えられたが、後には生みに至る道、ヨルダンの向こうの地、異邦人のガリラヤに光栄を与えられる。暗闇の中に歩んでいた民は大いなる光を見た。暗黒の地に住んでいた人々の上に光が照った」（１節、２節）。
言うまでもなく、ヨルダンの向こうの地、異邦人のガリラヤこそ、イエス・キリストがその宣教活動の中心とした場所であり、暗黒と呼ばれていた場所。そのところで民は光なるキリストを見るであろうという預言です。そして、この預言は６節からもっと具体的になります。
ひとりのみどり子がわれわれのために生まれた、ひとりの男の子がわれわれに与えられた。まつりごとはその肩にあり、その名は「霊妙なる議士、大能の神、とこしえの父、平和の君」ととなえられる。そのまつりごとと平和とは、増し加わって限りなく、ダビデの位に座して、その国を治め、今より後、とこしえに公平と正義とをもってこれを立て、これを保たれる。万軍の主の熱心がこれをなされるのである」（６節、７節）。
これはキリストが赤子として、私達のために生まれるということ、クリスマスを意味し、そのキリストが公平と正義をもって、この世界を治めるということです。そして、これらのことがなぜにして起きたかといいますと、その最後にその理由が書かれています。すなわち、それは「万軍の主の熱心がこれをなされるのである」(The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this) というのです。この神の熱意、熱心が神のひとり子イエスをこの地球に生まれさせたというのです。
あのヨハネ３章１６節には聖書のポイントを一文にまとめた有名な言葉があります。「神は実に、そのひとり子をお与えになったほどに、世を愛された。それは御子を信じる者が、ひとりとして滅びることなく、永遠の命を持つためである」（新改訳）
この言葉を見る時に、その神の熱心とは何であったのかというとが分かります。すなわち、その熱心とはこの世界を、すなわち私達を愛された、神の私達に対する熱愛ゆえに、その神のひとり子、キリストがみどりごとして、すなわち人の子として、我々に与えられたということです。
もう一度、申し上げます。私は人が神になるとは到底、思えません。そのことも学校では教えてくれなかったのですが、後々、自分自身、頭で考え、そのように呼ばれた人達という者達のことも知りましたが、どうひっくり返っても彼らは神ではなく、私達と同じ人間でした。
しかし、私は、イエス・キリストが聖霊によってやどり、処女マリアより生まれたということを信じます。なぜなら、私達は私達の頭の中におさまらない方を信じているからです。全地万物を支配しておられる神様の私達に対する熱愛ゆえに、その一人子が聖霊によって、処女マリアに生まれたということ、それを信じることは私達が思うほどに難しいことではないのです。
お祈りしましょう。
Do you believe in the Virgin Birth?

We recited the Apostle’ creed this morning. We have been learning it verse by verse of since April. There is one verse in the creed, that says:
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
This statement says that Jesus was conceived and born without any physical relations between Mary and Joseph. We are stating that we believe in a virgin conception. In our real life this idea is very difficult for us to understand.
If nonbelievers heard this statement, they would question our sanity. In the world today one third of the people repeat this creed frequently.
Let us learn about the creed’s statement.
First we will consider “conception by the holy spirit”
The Bible is a large book and on the first page it says
“ In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” This is the first statement in the Bible and doesn’t allow for any questions or exceptions.
In 1843 at the end of the EDO era, Joe Neeshima was born. When he first read the opening statement of the Bible he was shocked.
Previously he had believed in gods that humans had conceptualized. Their gods were just statues that they prayed to. Their gods were so small, and sometimes these statues even needed to be repaired.
When Joe read the first line of the Bible, he was overwhelmed by the enormity of God.
Joe studied in the United States. Neesima( Niijima ) returned to his homeland after ten years with a strong ambition to establish a Christian university as well as to spread Christianity In Japan.
The Samurai era was coming to an end. At that time the Japanese government was seeking people who had new ideas and visions. He met with Mr. Katsu Kaishu who was instrumental in the transition to the new era.
Mr. Katsu asked Joe how long it would take for the college to be recognized as an outstanding college. Joe’s answer was 200 years. Education takes 200 years to complete. Mr.Katsu was very impressed by Joe’s answer because he knew that Joe wasn’t seeking glory and fame for himself but wanted the college to be a success. Joe was the original founder of DOSHISHA- college in Japan.
When I was worshipping at La Costa church, maybe around ten years ago, a Japanese musician whose name is Morishige held a concert at the church.
He told people his life story during the concert.
In 1973 he lived in Nashville in Tennessee. One day a question came on his mind.He knew the Christian story of how God created the world, but he didn’t believe the story. One day he asked himself why he thought the story of God was a fairy tale. He realized that as a child, he had never been taught about God at home or at school. His whole life he had been a good person and lived an honest life, but he had never taught about God.
I recently watched a TV special about a parrot that lives in New Zealand. It is called “ Cacapo”, which is species of large flightless parrot. This is also called Owl Parrot. It has large grey beak, short legs and large feet. Wings and a tail are relatively short.
This parrot is the only species among parrots that cannot fly. I have lived 40 years and never knew that this bird exists in the world.
There is only one reason that I didn’t know about this bird. It is the same reason that the musician didn’t know who had created the world. And that reason is that no one had ever taught us. This parrot has existed since ancient times.
The musician’s question about who had created the world is a good one. We must all at some point in our life face the question, does God exist? If no one taught you before about God’s existence, it is worth it to you to consider it now. If you know the answer, it might change your whole life.
Genesis Chapter1-2 says
“Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.”
In chapter 2, it tells us the world was not a solid form and did not have any order. This is the point at which God started the creation.
This morning we want to look at the Spirit of God during the creation. The Spirit of God started with nothing and created everything. Here we see that the Spirit of God has always been in existence, this is the same Spirit that conceived Jesus in Mary’s womb.
We see that the Spirit can conceive anything from nothing. The Spirit of God that created the whole world created a life in one woman. Creating a life in a woman is small in comparison to creating the whole world. For us to understand this is difficult, but for God it is a simple task. There are stories in the Bible to which we can relate, because we, too, are humans with similar capacities and problems as the people in the Bible.
But the Bible is not about the story of humans and their lives. The Bible is the story of God and God’s work. God’s capacities are so great compared to ours that we have trouble relating to, and understanding stories such as the creation and the virgin conception.
There are things in life that happened that are beyond our greatest expectations and comprehensions.
The Tsunami in Japan this March is an example of this. Scientist could conceive of an Earthquake of 8.9 magnitude and built walls to protect the regions against 8.9 earthquake’s tsunami. But what happened was beyond our knowledge and comprehension.
This is the similar to the Bible. If the Bible tells us all what we already know, common knowledge, it could not be God’s stories. We can never totally understand the capacities of God.
Now we will consider the second item which is Jesus being born from the Virgin Mary.
In February on my sabbatical to Israel, I went to the small village, named Ein Kerem. Ein means a spring of water. Kerem means vineyard. The water flows now as it did in biblical times into a small pond. People call this spring Mary’s well. John the Baptist’s parents, Zechariah and Elizabeth lived in this village.
While Mary was pregnant, she visited Elizabeth in this village. The story is told in Luke 1-39-45.
At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. In a loud voice she exclaimed, ”blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear. But why am I so favored that the mother of my Lord should come to me? As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished.
As we discussed before, Jesus was conceived in Mary without any human relations. The Bible clearly tells us that the lady’s name was Mary. She was frequently mentioned by name in the Bible, she was present at the crucifixion and after his resurrection. If she was never mentioned after the birth of Jesus, we would probably not think of her again. And Jesus birth might have been more mysterious. But God continues to mention her. People back then saw her as an ordinary girl. But she was blessed with the son of God. People probably thought she was crazy to think this. But she knew how the baby was conceived and knew the Jesus was God’s son.
In Luke chapter 1 verse 46-55. Mary’s song tells her story of her rejoicing.
And Mary said,
My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty one has done great thing for me— Holy is his name.
His mercy extends to those who fear him from generation to generation.
He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.
He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as he said to our fathers.
As we understand from reading the Bible story, Mary was not a particularly special person. She was just an ordinary young woman. She was special in her love for God and considered herself a servant of God. She always remained humble and never claimed glory for herself.
What Mary’s song shows is she knows the limitations of human beings and praised Almighty God. God’s way is shown to people who are truly humble, fear God and glorify God.
Mary’s attributes are qualities that God want for all of us. And this is shown in Psalms Chapter 51-16,17
You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it. You do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God you will not despise.
God delights not in our material sacrifices but in our humble and loving heart.
Jesus Christ tells us in Matthew Chapter 11- 25,26
At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father. Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
God desires that our hearts be open and be as humble as a small child. Young children easily accept things without questions.
We can compare Mary’s humble heart and acceptance of God’s will for her to carry Jesus as a child to the humble accepting heart of a young child.
Jesus tells us in the above verse that this is how he would like us to be.
People who are humble and know the limitations of their knowledge can accept more easily the existence of God. God reveals himself more easily to these people.
The third and last question:
I would like to ask all of you the following question.
Which do you believe: That people can become God or that God can become human.
There are many religions in the world where people can become gods. In other religions a charismatic leader proclaims himself as a god.
In the world today there are over one hundred thousand religions in which man considers himself a god. As these men show their shortcomings and failures these religions fall by the way side. This happens because these people are not gods but are human beings.
I myself have never believed that humans could become gods. In addition I believe in life after death, but I have never believed that I could become a god after death.
Sometimes I can be confident in my knowledge but then something will convince me to change my mind. Sometimes I make mistake too.
As humans, we tend to change our minds. This is not something God would do. Also, being human, sometimes I might hurt my hand and not be able to tie my shoe laces. Or as I get older, my eyes may get weak and I could not read a book without glasses. These are examples of why we are not like God in our life time or after death.
The other side of the question is can God become human.
We call God an almighty God. If so, all things are possible for Him. We believe that God is all powerful and can do everything.
Being all powerful God can conceive a baby in Mary’s womb and the child can be born as human. There are many predictions of Jesus‘s coming in the old testament.
Isaiah chapter 9 that was written 750 years before Jesus’s birth begins the following verses.
Nevetherless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan—–
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of shadow of death a light has dawned.
Jesus ‘s ministry brought light to the people who had lived in darkness.
Isaiah Chapter 9 – 6,7 is more precise in its prediction.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, “ Mighty God, Everlasting Father. Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s Throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
This means that Jesus Christ was born as a child and ruled over the world with justice and righteousness. The way this happened is shown to us in the last verse. The Zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. God had to send his only child to us to accomplish this.
In John 3-16 God tells us:
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that who ever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
When we read this verse we know God’s desire is that we have eternal life with Him. He wanted this so much that he gave us his one and only child as a human baby.
Let me tell you again that I do not believe that humans can become gods.
I have never been taught this in school. I have met many religious leaders. All of them are human and not gods.
I believe that Jesus Christ was conceived in the virgin Mary by the Holy Spirit .I believe in the Almighty God who is beyond my comprehension.
If you truly believe in God’s desire for us and the zeal of the Lord Almighty, it is easier to accept Jesus birth as a human.

１）使徒信条には「主は聖霊によりてやどり、おとめマリアより生まれ」という一文はあります。この言葉は常識では考えられない言葉です。あなたはこの言葉をどのように受け止めていますか。
２）「聖霊によってやどり」とはどんな意味ですか。創世記１章１節、２節に「神の霊」の存在が記されていますが、同じ神の霊がマリアの胎にイエスがやどったということと関連しているとしますならば、どんなことが分かりますか。
３）使徒信条にあります「おとめマリアより生まれ」ということはイエスは男と女の関係がなく、生まれてきたということです。当時の時代背景を思う時に、このことはマリアが大変な危機に直面することを意味します。この事実を知っているマリアがルカ１章４６節－５５節で表現している言葉からマリアのどんな思いが伝わりますか。
４）このような大任が何の力もないひとりの女性に託されたということは、神様のどんな心をあらわしているのでしょうか。上記のマリアの賛歌を参考に考えてみてください。
５）あなたは聖書の中に人知を超えた神の奇跡が記されていることについて、どのように受け止めていますか。それはあなたの躓きとなっていますか？神について記されている書に必ず記されていなければならないことは何でしょうか？
