米国はメモリアルディーのウィークエンドとなり、今日は毎年恒例の野外礼拝でした。
聖書の中には度々「わたしはアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神である」という言葉が出てきます。このことが意味することは私達の神は私達の父母の神でもあり、私達の子達の神でもあるということで、その父母と子達の関係は私達が決めたのではなく、神が決めたということです・・・。

不思議に満ちた人生

今日はメモリアルディーを前にしました日曜日です。私達よりも先に神のもとに帰っていった方達を思い起こす日です。私も自分にとって大切な人のことを思い、今日は写真を持ってきました。私の父と母の結婚式の写真です。この時に私はまだこの世界にはおりません。しかし、この二人から私という人間がこの世界に誕生しました。
私の父と母は今から４７年前の１９６８年４月２日に東京中央教会で結婚しました。まったく３０年後の同じ月、同じ日、同じ場所、すなわち１９９８年４月２日に私達は父母と同じ東京中央教会で結婚しました（別にこのことは仕組んだのではなく、日程が全部、決まってから分かりました）。実に私達の生涯は不思議で満ちています。
父は韓国人、母は日本人、結婚後、母は国籍を韓国に変え、二人は韓国で暮らします。皆さんの多くは国際結婚をされていると思いますが、私も国際結婚により生まれた子です。私は１９６９年に韓国ソウルで生まれ、その三か月後、４月２８日、母の誕生日に父は天に召されました。
以後、私達母子は日本に戻り、私は日本で育ちました。ですから私は日本の文化、習慣で育ったのですが、私の体に流れる血の半分は韓国の血なのです。血とは不思議なものです。私がザイオンに買い物に行けば、「それは美味しいか」と韓国語で話しかけられます。コリアンレストランで日本語を話していましたら「日本語が上手だね」と言われたこともありました。実に私達の生涯は不思議で満ちています。
母が父と結婚する時に父の側には四人の子がおりました。その内、二人は韓国に韓国人として住み、姉はロスにおり、もう一人の兄はパラグアイに住んでいます。これらの兄や姉と共に住んだ年月は数か月です。彼らは毎日、韓国語を話、韓国料理を食べて人生を送りました。私は全く彼らとは異なる人生を送りました。
数年前、そんな兄と実に１０数年ぶりにソウルで再会しました。兄と私の間は実に父と息子のように離れています。その兄との再会を楽しみ、写真をとりましたら驚きました。彼とは私が生まれてから数か月しか共に住んでおりませんのに、私の姿形は限りなく兄のそれに近づいているのです。そうです、これが血族ということです。私の体には神が与えたもうた者達と同じ血が脈々と流れているのです。実に私達の生涯は不思議で満ちています。
申し上げましたように私の父は私が生まれて三か月で亡くなりましたので、私には父の思い出が全くありません。言うなれば彼の影響は受けていません。しかし、父の血は今も私の中に流れており、それは神のよしとされたことなのです。もしかしたら、皆さんの中にも父や母を知らないという方がいるかもしれません。しかし、その父母を選んだのは私達を愛しておられる神であったということを私達が知る時に、私達の人生は変わるのです。

イケアでは無料のカタログを手に取ることができます。私の記憶が正しければ、私はあのイケアのようなカタログを手渡された記憶はありません。そこには１６０か国の国名があり、カップルの健康状態、財産、性格が詳細に説明してあり、そこから私はベストなものを選んで生まれてきたのではないのです。そう、私は自分の生まれる場所、いつ生まれるかということ、また自分の父や母を選ぶことなく生まれてきました。同じように父と母も私という人間を選んではいないのです。当たり前なのですが、よくよく考えたら驚きであり、不思議なのです。そう、何が不思議って、当の私達が選んでいないとするのなら誰がそれを選んだかということなのです。人生は不思議で満ちています。
そう、私は自分の人生の始まりに何一つ関与していないのです。そして、言うまでもなく皆さんもそうです。皆さん、これらのことについて私は一切、関与していないのです。聖書はその私達の始まりに関与しているのは神だと言います。聖書ははっきりと「あなたがたがわたしを選んだのではない。わたしがあなたがたを選んだのである。そして、あなたがたを立てた。それは、あなたがたが行って実をむすび、その実がいつまでも残るためである」（ヨハネ１５章１６節）と書いています。
アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブから始まったユダヤ民族は以後、とてもユニークな歩みをします。エジプトに奴隷としており、その後、バビロンに捕えられ、以後、世界中に離散します。そう、彼らの人生は母国からかけ離れたものだったのです。言うなれば彼らは二つ、もしくは複数の言語と文化の中でその歩みを続けました。
私達の多くは日本で生まれ育ち、そして母国を離れて、複数の文化、複数の言語と共に、このアメリカに今、生きています。まさしくこの国は移民の国であり、この国で生まれ育った者達も元をただせば、その親や祖父母は他国から、この国にやってきたのです。この事実とこれまでお話しましたことを思います時に、私達の心に語りかけてくる内なる言葉があるのです「神があなたに命を与え、神がこの地にあなたを導かれているのだ」と。まことに私達の人生は不思議で満ちているのです。
かつてマーティン・ルーサーキングは、どこの大学を出て、どんな人と結婚して、どんなリタイアメントを送るのかという予定を綿密に立てている若者に尋ねました。「君のその予定のどこに神がいるのか」と。キング牧師のこの言葉を読みながら、私はその質問に加えてこんな問いかけをその若者にしたいと思わされたのです。「君の始まりが神によって始まったのなら、君の人生の全ても神の御手の中に置くべきだ」。
イエス・キリストが生まれる７５０年の前、預言者イザヤはこんな預言をしました。そうやがてこの地にキリストが生まれるというあの有名な預言です『ひとりのみどりごが、私たちのために生まれる。ひとりの男の子が、私たちに与えられる。主権はその肩にあり、その名は「不思議な助言者、力ある神、永遠の父、平和の君」と呼ばれる』（イザヤ９章８節）私達の人生が不思議と共に始まり、この人生が不思議で満ちているのなら、この不思議に対して助言してくれるお方と人生を歩むべきです。そうです、その方がイエス・キリストなのです。
私達はこのメモリアルディーに愛する者達のことを思い起こしています。彼らは神が私達に与えてくださった者達です。それを良しとしたのは私達ではない、父なる我らの神なのです。そのことを受け入れる時、すなわち我らの神はアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神であり、私の父の神、私の母の神であり、私の子供達の神なのだということを受け入れる時に、私達は生の冒険を歩み出すのです。私達の誕生の不思議、そして、私達が今、この国に生きている不思議を思う時に、私達は天の父に聞くのです。あなたは私の人生、何をするようにと願っているのですか。そう、不思議の助言者と呼ばれるイエス・キリスト様がそれを明らかにしてくださることでしょう。
不思議と言えば、わたしは五年前にアメリカ市民になりました。その瞬間から私達の結婚は国際結婚となりました。想定外の人生です。知らぬうちに父母と同じ道を歩んでいる自分がここにいます。まさしく人生はこれからも不思議で満ちているのです。
全ての栄光を神に帰します。
The life filled with wonders.

Today is the Sunday just before Memorial Day. Memorial Day is the day that we remember the people who went back to the Lord. I brought a picture today to remember my family. This is the wedding ceremony of my parents. I was not there at that time, but I was born from this man and woman.
My father and mother were married on April 2, 1968 at Tokyo Central Church in Japan, and I was married with my wife, Mika exactly 30 years later, on April 2, 1998 at the same place, Tokyo Central Church. We did not find out about this fact until after we planned our wedding. Indeed our life is full of wonders
My father is Korean, and my mother is Japanese. My mother changed her nationality from Japan to Korea when she got married. I know many of you are internationally married couples. My parent were also internationally married couple and I was a child of the couple. I was born in 1969 at Seoul, South Korea and three months after I was born, my father passed way because of a kidney problem. That day was my mother’s birthday.
My mother took me to Japan two years after I was born and she raised me in Japan. Therefore I was raised by only Japanese culture and tradition, but half of my blood is Korean. When I go to Korean super market, people speak to me in Korean, and when I speak Japanese at Korean restaurant, they say “oh, your Japanese is good”. Indeed our life is full of wonders.
When my mother married my father, he had four children. So instantly, they became my brothers and sister. My sister lives in LA as a pastor’s wife, two brothers live in Korea, and the other brother is in Paraguay. I only lived with them for a couple of months when I was born in Korea and our life was separated since that time. They had spoke Korean and lived in Korean culture, so our life is totally different.
I visited Korea a couple of years ago and met two brothers in Seoul. We did not see each other for more than 10 years. Our ages are apart like father and son. We enjoyed a few days at Seoul, and the last day we took pictures together, and I was amazed. I lived with them for only a few months when I was a baby, but now I am really becoming like my brother. Yes, this is because of blood. My body has their blood and the blood was given by God. Indeed our life is full of wonders
As I said, my father passed away three months after I was born, so I do not have any memory about him. That means I did not get any influence from him, but his blood is still within me, and this was admitted by God. Maybe some of you might also not know your father or mother, but if we know that God who really loves you has picked your parents, our life will be changed.
God introduces himself in the Bible in many ways, among these, he said many times, “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob”. This means your God is your father and mother’s God, and your children’s God. You did not chose your parent and you did not choose your children, but God chose them for you.
We can obtain a free catalog at IKEA. If my memory is correct, I was never given that kind of catalog before I was born. The catalog includes the section of all countries and all pictures of couples with the information of their nationality, health condition, income and character. I did not pick the best parent I thought in the catalog. Yes, I did not choose my parents, the date and place of my birth, likewise, my parents did not choose me. We wonder if we did not choose, then who chose for us. Brothers and sisters, our life is full of wonders.
I was not involved with the choices of my beginning, and you also were not. No one is involved in this wondrous thing. The Bible says that God is involved in our beginning. Yes the Bible clearly says; “ You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last” (John 15:16).
The Jews started from their ancestors, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and they spread to the world in a very unique way. They were once in Egypt as slaves, and also captured by Babylon, and they scattered across the world. Yes their life was away from their motherland. They had lived with multiple languages and cultures.
Many of us were born and raised in Japan or other countries, and we live here in the US. We are not the only one’s, this country is an immigrant country. Even though many people are born in this country, their ancestors came here from foreign countries. When we think about this fact and also think about what we have heard this morning, we listen to the inner voice speak to our mind, “God gave you life and has lead you to this land”. Yes, our life is full of wonder.
Once Rev. Martin Luther King asked a young man about his life plan. The young man explained to Rev. King about the college he is going to graduate, the woman who is going to be his wife and he even mentioned a happy retirement. Rev. King listened to everything about his life plan and asked him “where is God in your life”? As I read this story, I wanted to add on to tell him, “If your life was begun by God, your life plan should be put in God’s hands”.
About seven hundred fifty years before Christ was born, prophet Isaiah predicted the famous prophesy. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6). As you know this is the prophesy of the birth of Jesus Christ.
If our life began full of wonders, and our life is still full of wonders, brothers and sisters, why don’t you walk your life with your wonderful counselor, Jesus Christ.
We remember the people we love this Memorial Day weekend. They were given by God to us. It was not done by us but by our heavenly father. Our God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, the God of my father and my mother, and the God of my children. When we accept this fact, we start our new adventures. When we ponder about the wonder of birth and life in this land, we will ask our heavenly father, what do you want me to do in my life? yes our wonderful counselor, Jesus Christ will give us the answer of that question.
Speaking of wonder filled life, I became an US citizen about five years ago. Since that day my wife and I became an internationally married couple. This was not my life plan at all. Now we are following the way my parents walked through. Yes, indeed our life will continue to be full of wonders! All our glory always coming from God!
