この敬老の日曜日のメッセージの題は『信仰の先輩からの教訓』です。旧約聖書に登場する3人、具体的にはアブラハム、モーセ、ダニエルを見ます。彼らは、主のために重要なことをしたとき、いずれも80歳以上でありました。聖書に記されているこの信仰の先輩たちから、また私たちの教会家族にいる信仰の先輩たちから、神と共に良く生きた人生を学ぼうではありませんか（本多）。

信仰の先輩たちからの教訓

What a blessing it is for us to celebrate and honor our church family members who are 80 years old and older on this Keiro Sunday! この敬老の日曜日に、私たちの教会家族の80歳以上の方々を祝い、称えることができるのは、なんという恵みでしょう！
We are celebrating this special occasion today, because we as a church celebrate Keiro Sunday on the day before Keiro-No-Hi (Respect for the Elderly Day) which is celebrated in Japan on the third Monday of September. というのも、日本では9月の第3月曜日に「敬老の日」が祝われるが、その前日に教会として「敬老の日」を祝うからであります。
I am so glad that we have so many of you who are 80 years old and older here today, who continue to attend our worship services regularly. 今日ここに、私たちの礼拝に定期的に出席し続けてくださる多くの80歳以上の方々がいらっしゃることをとても嬉しく思います。
You do not know how encouraged we are by your presence with us! みなさんが私たちと共にいてくださることで、私たちがどれほど励まされているか、ご存じないでしょう！
Your presence gives us a sense of calm and peace and reminds us of God’s continued sustaining grace in our lives. みなさんの存在は、私たちに落ち着きと平安を与え、私たちの人生における神様の持続的な恵みを思い起こさせてくださいます。
For you are living testimonies of God’s loving care over many decades of your lives. みなさんは、何十年もの間、神様に愛されて来られた生きた証しだからです。
You have also shown us through your faithfulness in continuing to worship the Lord of the joy of walking together with the Lord by faith. また、信仰によって主と共に歩む喜びを、主を礼拝し続けるみなさんの誠実さを通して私たちに示してくださいました。
My prayer for all of you is that you will remain healthy and strong in the Lord and continue to be able to come to the worship services. みなさんのために私が祈ることは、みなさんが主にあって健康で強くあり続け、引き続き礼拝に来られることです。
Because this is Keiro Sunday and because I myself have truly been blessed by those of you who we are honoring today, 今日は敬老の日曜日であり、また私自身、今日敬老の日を迎えるみなさんから本当に祝福を受けてきましたので、
I have titled today’s message, “Lessons from Our Seniors of the Faith”. 今日のメッセージの題を『信仰の先輩からの教訓』としました。
Our seniors of the faith fervently pray for the church family. 私たちの信仰の先輩たちは教会家族のために熱心にお祈りをしています。
Our seniors of the faith generously give to support the church’s work. 私たちの信仰の先輩たちは、教会の働きを支えるために惜しみなく寄付をしています。
Our seniors of the faith lovingly support the church family. 私たちの信仰の先輩たちは、教会家族を愛情深く支えています。
Our seniors of the faith are faithful! 私たちの信仰の先輩たちは忠実であります！
There are three people we have looked at through our message series on “Learning from Others, How to Live with God”, that were seniors of the faith. 「人から学び、神と共に生きる」というメッセージ・シリーズを通して、信仰の先輩であった3人の人物を見ました。
Of course, all of the people we looked at are seniors of the faith to us, in that they all preceded us. もちろん、私たちが見てきた人たちは皆、私たちよりも先を行っているという意味で、私たちにとっては信仰の先輩であります。
However, the three people that I am referring to, were all 80 years old or older, when they did something significant for the Lord. しかし、私が言及している3人は、主のために重要なことをしたとき、いずれも80歳以上でありました。
The three people I would like to look at are: Abraham, Moses, and Daniel. 私が注目したい3人の人物は：アブラハム、モーセ、そしてダニエルです。
Abraham was 75 years old when God called him to leave his family and country and to go to a land that he did not know. アブラハムが75歳の時、神様から家族と国を離れ、自分の知らない土地に行くようにと召されました。
He was 100 years old, when he was given Isaac, the child of promise to him and his wife Sarah who was 90 years old. 彼が100歳のとき、90歳だった妻サラとの間に約束の子イサクが与えられました。
And many years later, Abraham was told by God to offer Isaac as a burnt offering. そして何年も後、アブラハムはイサクを燔祭として捧げるよう神様から告げられました。
Each step of the way, Abraham’s faith in God grew, and His ability to humbly obey God grew as well. 一歩一歩、アブラハムの神様への信仰は増し、神様に謙虚に従う能力も増していきました。
Abraham and Sarah’s life of faith are summarized for us in the book of Hebrews in what is known as the “Faith Hall of Fame” chapter. アブラハムとサラの信仰生活は、ヘブル書の「信仰の殿堂」と呼ばれる章に要約されています。
Hebrews 11:8-12, 17-19（へブル書１１章８節—１２節、１７節—１９節）
By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, fellow heirs of the same promise; for he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith even Sarah herself received ability to conceive, even beyond the proper time of life, since she considered Him faithful who had promised. Therefore there was born even of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore. By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises was offering up his only begotten son; it was he to whom it was said, “In Isaac your descendants shall be called.” He considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead, from which he also received him back as a type. 信仰によって、アブラハムは、受け継ぐべき地に出て行けとの召しをこうむった時、それに従い、行く先を知らないで出て行った。信仰によって、他国にいるようにして約束の地に宿り、同じ約束を継ぐイサク、ヤコブと共に、幕屋に住んだ。彼は、ゆるがぬ土台の上に建てられた都を、待ち望んでいたのである。その都をもくろみ、また建てたのは、神である。信仰によって、サラもまた、年老いていたが、種を宿す力を与えられた。約束をなさったかたは真実であると、信じていたからである。このようにして、ひとりの死んだと同様な人から、天の星のように、海べの数えがたい砂のように、おびただしい人が生れてきたのである。信仰によって、アブラハムは、試錬を受けたとき、イサクをささげた。すなわち、約束を受けていた彼が、そのひとり子をささげたのである。この子については、「イサクから出る者が、あなたの子孫と呼ばれるであろう」と言われていたのであった。彼は、神が死人の中から人をよみがえらせる力がある、と信じていたのである。だから彼は、いわば、イサクを生きかえして渡されたわけである。
Abraham went out not knowing where he was going, lived as an alien in a foreign land dwelling in tents, アブラハムは行く先も知らずに出て行き、他国にいるようにして幕屋に住みました。
because “he was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God”. なぜなら、彼は、神がもくろみ、建てた、ゆるがぬ土台の上に建てられた都を、待ち望んでいたからであります。
Abraham and Sarah were given a son in their old age, although physically speaking, they were “as good as dead”. アブラハムとサラは、肉体的には「死んだと同様」であったにもかかわらず、年老いてから男の子を授かったのです。
Abraham had faith to offer up Isaac to God because he considered that God is able to raise people even from the dead. アブラハムがイサクを神様に捧げる信仰を持ったのは、神が死人の中から人をよみがえらせる力があると考えたからです。
Through Abraham, we learn that faith in God is active and based on trusting in God’s promises. アブラハムを通して、私たちは神様への信仰が積極的であり、神様の約束を信頼することに基づいていることを学びます。
What promises has God given to you through your faith in Jesus Christ? イエス・キリストへの信仰を通して、神様はあなたにどのような約束をお与えになりましたか？
Let us continue to live out our faith in God actively, trusting in His promises to us. 私たちは、神様の約束を信頼して、神様への信仰を積極的に生き続けましょう。
Moses was 80 years old when God called him to return to Egypt to lead the people of Israel out of slavery to the land that God had promised to give to them. 神様がモーセをエジプトに呼び戻し、イスラエルの民を奴隷状態から解放し、神様が与えると約束した地に導くよう命じたのは、モーセが80歳の時でありました。
Moses’ life of faith is also summarized for us in the book of Hebrews in the “Faith Hall of Fame” chapter. モーセの信仰生活も、ヘブル書の「信仰の殿堂」章に要約されています。
Hebrews 11:23-29（へブル書１１章２３節—２９節）
By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were drowned. 信仰によって、モーセの生れたとき、両親は、三か月のあいだ彼を隠した。それは、彼らが子供のうるわしいのを見たからである。彼らはまた、王の命令をも恐れなかった。信仰によって、モーセは、成人したとき、パロの娘の子と言われることを拒み、罪のはかない歓楽にふけるよりは、むしろ神の民と共に虐待されることを選び、キリストのゆえに受けるそしりを、エジプトの宝にまさる富と考えた。それは、彼が報いを望み見ていたからである。信仰によって、彼は王の憤りをも恐れず、エジプトを立ち去った。彼は、見えないかたを見ているようにして、忍びとおした。信仰によって、滅ぼす者が、長子らに手を下すことのないように、彼は過越を行い血を塗った。信仰によって、人々は紅海をかわいた土地をとおるように渡ったが、同じことを企てたエジプト人はおぼれ死んだ。
So, we see the many wonderful things that God did through Moses as he walked with God and led the people of Israel by faith. モーセが神様と共に歩み、信仰によってイスラエルの民を導いたとき、神がモーセを通してなされた数々の素晴らしいことを私たちは見ます。
Moses lived to be 120 years old, but sometime between the time of his calling by God and the time of his death, he wrote the following song of prayer. モーセは120歳まで生きましたが、神様に召されてから死ぬまでの間に、次のような祈りを書きました。
It is Psalm 90, and in the heading of the psalm it says: 詩篇90篇であり、その見出しにはこう書かれています：
God’s Eternity and Man’s Transitoriness. A Prayer of Moses, the man of God. 神の永遠性と人間の儚さ。神の人モーセの祈り。
Psalm 90（詩篇９０篇）
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God. You turn man back into dust and say, “Return, O children of men.” For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it passes by, or as a watch in the night. You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; in the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew. In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; toward evening it fades and withers away. For we have been consumed by Your anger and by Your wrath we have been dismayed. You have placed our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your presence. For all our days have declined in Your fury; we have finished our years like a sigh. As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away. Who understands the power of Your anger and Your fury, according to the fear that is due You? So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom. Do return, O Lord; how long will it be? And be sorry for Your servants. O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days You have afflicted us, and the years we have seen evil. Let Your work appear to Your servants and Your majesty to their children. The first half of Moses’ prayer to God is a confession of God’s sovereignty and the sins of himself and the people of Israel. モーセの神への祈りの前半は、神様の主権と自分自身とイスラエルの民の罪の告白であります。
The second half of Moses’ prayer to God is a petition for God to intervene in their lives, モーセの神への祈りの後半は、神様が彼らの人生に介入してくださるように、
so that they may continue to find joy and gladness in their relationship with God and that God’s good work will be done in and through them. 彼らが神様との関係の中で喜びと楽しみを見いだし続けられ、神様の良いわざが彼らのうちに、彼らを通してなされるように、という願いであります。
Such should be our prayer to God as well. そのような祈りが、私たちの神への祈りでもあるべきです。
Especially in knowing that the days of our life are numbered and there is no greater blessing than to walk humbly and joyfully in faith with God. 特に、私たちの人生の日数は限られており、神と共に信仰をもって謙虚に喜びをもって歩むこと以上に大きな祝福はないと知っているからです。
Through Moses, we learn that no matter what the circumstances, suffering in doing the will of God is much better than enjoying the passing pleasures of sin. モーセを通して、私たちは、どのような状況にあっても、神様の御心を行うための苦しみは、罪のはかない歓楽にふけるよりもはるかに優れていることを学びます。
As the seniors of faith in our church, you too like Moses have shown to us that no matter what the circumstances, you will continue to worship the Lord and follow Him. 私たちの教会の信仰の先輩であるみなさんも、モーセのように、どんな状況にあっても主を礼拝し、主に従い続けることを私たちに示してくれました。
You showed that to us especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. 特にコロナ禍の中で、みなさんは私たちにそれを示してくれました。
Although being the most at risk to the exposure of the coronavirus, you were the first ones to desire to return back to in-person meetings and worship services than us so-called younger people. 新型コロナウイルスにさらされる危険性が最も高いにもかかわらず、私たちいわゆる若い人たちよりも真っ先に対面式ミーティングや礼拝への復帰を望んだのはみなさんでした。
You were not concerned about being “protected” or of the loss of health, in as much as worshipping the Lord and fellowshipping with other believers. みなさんは、主を礼拝し、他の信者たちとお交わるをすることに関しては、「守られる」ことや健康を失うことを気にかけませんでした。
You truly understood the exhortation found in the book of Hebrews that preceded what we have read in the “Faith Hall of Faith” chapter. みなさんは、私たちが「信仰の殿堂」の章で読んだことに先立つ、ヘブル書にある戒めを本当に理解していたのです。
Hebrews 10:23-25（へブル書１０章２３節—２５節）
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. また、約束をして下さったのは忠実なかたであるから、わたしたちの告白する望みを、動くことなくしっかりと持ち続け、愛と善行とを励むように互に努め、ある人たちがいつもしているように、集会をやめることはしないで互に励まし、かの日が近づいているのを見て、ますます、そうしようではないか。
Indeed, by your faithful attendance in our weekly worship services, you have stimulated us to love and good deeds by not forsaking meeting together for worship and fellowship no matter what the circumstances. 実に、私たちの毎週の礼拝に忠実に出席することによって、みなさんは、どんな状況にあっても礼拝と交わりのために共に集うことを怠らず、私たちを愛と善行へと励ましました。
Daniel was a youth when he was taken to Babylon, but because of His God-given wisdom and ability to understand all kinds of visions and dreams, he served under four different kings over a period of about 70 years. ダニエルはバビロンに連行されたとき、まだ若者だったが、神から与えられた知恵と、あらゆる種類の幻や夢を理解する能力のゆえに、約70年にわたって4人の王の下で仕えました。
Daniel was first and foremost a faithful servant of God, who because of his faith in God and obedience to Him, found favor as a trusted advisor to the kings that he served. ダニエルは何よりもまず、神への忠実な僕であり、神への信仰と従順さのゆえに、仕えた王たちの信頼できる助言者として好意を持たれたのです。
Thus, even when he was over 80 years old, he became one of King Darius’ top three administrators. こうして80歳を超えても、ダリヨス王のトップ3の一人となったのです。
This is recorded for us in Daniel 6 where we also find the famous story of Daniel in the lions’ den. ダニエル書6章に、このことが書かれており、有名なしし（ライオン）の穴の中のダニエルの話も記されています。
Yes, Daniel was placed in a lions’ den when he was an elderly man. そうです。ダニエルは年老いたとき、ししの穴に入れられたのです。
And why was he placed in a lions’ den? なぜ彼はししの穴に入れられたのでしょうか？
Because of his faith in God and obedience to Him. それは、神様への信仰と従順さのためでした。
The other administrators and governmental leaders were jealous of Daniel because he distinguished himself among all of them and the king had planned to appoint him over the entire kingdom (Daniel 6:3-4). 他の総監や政府の指導者たちは、ダニエルが彼らの中で際立っていて、王は彼を立てて全国を治めさせようとしたので、ダニエルに嫉妬しました（ダニエル書6章3節—4節）。
Thus, they tried to come up with a plan to accuse Daniel of wrongdoing in order to get rid of him (Daniel 6:4-5). そこで彼らは、ダニエルを追い出すために、ダニエルの不義を告発する計画を立てようとしたのです（ダニエル書6章4節—5節）。
Their plan was to have the king sign into law a statute and enforce an injunction that anyone who makes a petition to any god or man besides the king, for thirty days, to be cast into the lions’ den (Daniel 6:6-9). 彼らの計画は、三十日の間は王以外の神や人に請願する者は、ししの穴に投げ入れられると言う禁令の文章に、王を署名させるものでした（ダニエル書6章6節—9節）。
Although Daniel knew that such a law had been signed, he continued to pray to God, giving thanks and making petition and supplication before God, three times a day (Daniel 6:10). ダニエルは、そのような禁令が署名されたことを知っていましたが、一日に三度、神に感謝をささげ、願いと嘆願をささげ、神に祈り続けました（ダニエル書6章10節）。
The governmental leaders who were bent on getting rid of Daniel brought the matter before the king to have Daniel thrown into the lions’ den (Daniel 6:11-13). ダニエルを追い出そうと躍起になっていた政府の指導者たちは、ダニエルをししの穴に投げ込むようにと、王にこの問題を持ち込みました（ダニエル書6章11節—13節）。
Although the king was reluctant to throw Daniel into the lions’ den, he was reminded of the law that he himself had signed (Daniel 6:14-15). 王はダニエルをししの穴に投げ込むことを渋ったが、王自身が署名した禁令を思い出さされました（ダニエル書6章14節—15節）。
So, the king gave orders to have Daniel brought in and cast into the lions’ den, saying to Daniel: そこで王は、ダニエルを連れて来て、ししの穴に投げ込むように命じ、ダニエルに言いました：
Daniel 6:16（ダニエル書６章１６節）
“Your God whom you constantly serve will Himself deliver you.” 「どうか、あなたの常に仕える神が、あなたを救われるように」。
King Darius’ concern for Daniel was quite evident in that it is recorded: ダリヨス王のダニエルに対する気遣いは、その記録からも明らかであります：
Daniel 6:18-20（ダニエル書６章１８節—２０節）
Then the king went off to his palace and spent the night fasting, and no entertainment was brought before him; and his sleep fled from him. Then the king arose at dawn, at the break of day, and went in haste to the lions’ den. When he had come near the den to Daniel, he cried out with a troubled voice. The king spoke and said to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you constantly serve, been able to deliver you from the lions?” こうして王はその宮殿に帰ったが、その夜は食をとらず、また、そばめたちを召し寄せず、全く眠ることもしなかった。こうして王は朝まだき起きて、ししの穴へ急いで行ったが、ダニエルのいる穴に近づいたとき、悲しげな声をあげて呼ばわり、ダニエルに言った、「生ける神のしもべダニエルよ、あなたが常に仕えている神はあなたを救って、ししの害を免れさせることができたか」。
He was greatly relieved when he heard Daniel’s following reply: ダニエルの次の返事を聞いて、彼は大いに安堵しました：
Daniel 6:21-22（ダニエル書６章２１節—２２節）
“O king, live forever! My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths and they have not harmed me, inasmuch as I was found innocent before Him; and also toward you, O king, I have committed no crime.” 「王よ、どうか、とこしえに生きながらえられますように。わたしの神はその使をおくって、ししの口を閉ざされたので、ししはわたしを害しませんでした。これはわたしに罪のないことが、神の前に認められたからです。王よ、わたしはあなたの前にも、何も悪い事をしなかったのです」。
Soon thereafter, the king gave orders for Daniel to be taken up out of the lions’ den, and then punished those who had maliciously accused Daniel by throwing them into the lions’ den. その直後、王はダニエルをししの穴から引き上げるよう命じ、悪意を持ってダニエルを告発した者たちをししの穴に投げ込むことで罰しました。
The result of all of this was that Darius wrote a letter to all the people in his kingdom, acknowledging the greatness of the God of Daniel and giving God praise. その結果、ダリヨスは王国のすべての人々に手紙を書き、ダニエルの神の偉大さを認め、神に賛美を捧げました。
Daniel is casually mentioned in the “Faith Hall of Fame” in Hebrews 11 in the following manner: ダニエルはヘブル人への手紙11章の「信仰の殿堂」で、さりげなく次のように言及されています：

And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. このほか、何を言おうか。もしギデオン、バラク、サムソン、エフタ、ダビデ、サムエル及び預言者たちについて語り出すなら、時間が足りないであろう。彼らは信仰によって、国々を征服し、義を行い、約束のものを受け、ししの口をふさぎ、火の勢いを消し、つるぎの刃をのがれ、弱いものは強くされ、戦いの勇者となり、他国の軍を退かせた。
Please remember, Daniel was no spring chicken when he was tested for his faith in God. ダニエルが神への信仰を試されたとき、彼は若い青年ではなかったことを覚えていてください。
He was over 80 years old, and he was able to remain faithful to God in praying to Him even when it was risky to do so, because he had continually done so since he was a youth. 彼は80歳を過ぎていましたが、危険なときでも神に忠実に祈り続けることができたのです。なぜなら、彼は若い頃からそうしてきたからです。
Through Daniel, we learn of a life of faithful obedience and faith in God through prayer. ダニエルを通して、私たちは祈りによる忠実な従順と神への信仰の生き方を学びます。
I am reminded of such a life of prayer through the seniors of the faith who are here this morning. 私は、今朝ここにいる信仰の先輩たちを通して、そのような祈りの生活を思い起こさせられます。
I am encouraged when I see my mom praying and reading the Bible, whenever I visit her in the morning. 朝、母を訪ねるたびに、お祈りをして、聖書を読んでいる彼女を見ると励まされます。
Many of you come up to me after the worship service and tell me that you are praying for me. 多くのみなさんが礼拝後に私のところに来て、私のために祈っていると言ってくれます。
I am so encouraged and comforted by these words, because I know that you are indeed praying for Pastor Okura and me and our families and the church family regularly. この言葉にとても励まされ、慰められます。なぜなら、みなさんが大倉先生と私、そして私たちの家族、教会家族のために定期的に祈ってくださっていることを知っているからです。
In closing, let us consider the author of Hebrews’ exhortation to those who were considering going back to their old ways rather than continuing to follow Jesus by faith: 最後に、ヘブル人への手紙の著者が、信仰によってイエスに従い続けるのではなく、古い道に戻ろうと考えている人たちに勧めた言葉を考えてみましょう：
Hebrews 12:1-3（へブル書１２章１節—３節）
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. こういうわけで、わたしたちは、このような多くの証人に雲のように囲まれているのであるから、いっさいの重荷と、からみつく罪とをかなぐり捨てて、わたしたちの参加すべき競走を、耐え忍んで走りぬこうではないか。信仰の導き手であり、またその完成者であるイエスを仰ぎ見つつ、走ろうではないか。彼は、自分の前におかれている喜びのゆえに、恥をもいとわないで十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に座するに至ったのである。あなたがたは、弱り果てて意気そそうしないために、罪人らのこのような反抗を耐え忍んだかたのことを、思いみるべきである。
At times in our life, we will be challenged to take the easy way rather than the right way, 私たちの人生には、正しい道ではなく、安易な道を選んだり、
or take side streets or short cuts rather than run with endurance the race that is set before us. 参加すべき競争を耐え忍んで走るのではなく、脇道や近道を選んだりするような試練にさらされるときがあります。
Abraham, Moses, and Daniel, as well as all of those mentioned in the “Faith Hall of Fame” chapter in Hebrews, アブラハム、モーセ、ダニエル、そしてヘブル人への手紙の「信仰の殿堂」章に記されているすべての人々は、
had the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1), 望んでいる事がらを確信し、まだ見ていない事実を確認しており（へブル11章1節）、
and that God is a rewarder of those who seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). また、神は、ご自分を求める者に報いて下さることを確証していました（へブル11章6節）。
And furthermore, the author of the book of Hebrews finished chapter 11 with the following words. さらに、ヘブル人への手紙の著者は11章を次の言葉で終えています。
Hebrews 11:39-40（へブル書１１章３９節—４０節）
And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they would not be made perfect. さて、これらの人々はみな、信仰によってあかしされたが、約束のものは受けなかった。神はわたしたちのために、さらに良いものをあらかじめ備えて下さっているので、わたしたちをほかにしては彼らが全うされることはない。
Please remember and find comfort in this, that through Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, we too together with all those who have gained approval through their faith in God, are given eternal life together with God in a heavenly “city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God”. 次のことをどうか覚えて慰めとしてください。信仰の導き手であり、またその完成者であるイエスを通して、 私たちもまた、神への信仰によって承認されたすべての人々と共に、 天の「神がもくろみ、建てた、ゆるがぬ土台の上に建てられた都」で神様との永遠のいのちが与えられています。
And we know that Abraham, who is considered the father of faith, with spiritual eyes already had his eyes fixed on Jesus when he lived 2000 years before Jesus physically was born into this world. そして、信仰の父とされるアブラハムは、イエスがこの世に肉体的に生まれる2000年前に生きていたとき、霊的な目ですでにイエスを見つめていたことを知っています。
Jesus pointed this out as it related to His relationship with God the Father. イエスは、ご自分の父なる神との関係に関連して、このことを指摘されました。
John 8:56-58（ヨハネ８章５６節—５８節）
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw itand was glad.”So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”「あなたがたの父アブラハムは、わたしのこの日を見ようとして楽しんでいた。そしてそれを見て喜んだ」。そこでユダヤ人たちはイエスに言った、「あなたはまだ五十にもならないのに、アブラハムを見たのか」。イエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。アブラハムの生れる前からわたしは、いるのである」。
Jesus’ statement here made it very clear that He Himself existed before Abraham was born, and that He is God. イエスのこの発言は、彼御自身がアブラハムが生まれる前から存在し、神であることをはっきりと示しています。
By stating “I am”, Jesus was bringing to memory what God had said to Moses. 「わたしは、いるのである」と言うことで、イエスは神がモーセに言われたことを思い出させたのです。
Exodus 3:14-15（出エジプト記３章１４節—１５節）
God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God, furthermore, said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is My name forever, and this is My memorial-name to all generations.” 神はモーセに言われた、「わたしは、有って有る者」。また言われた、「イスラエルの人々にこう言いなさい、『「わたしは有る」というかたが、わたしをあなたがたのところへつかわされました』と」。神はまたモーセに言われた、「イスラエルの人々にこう言いなさい『あなたがたの先祖の神、アブラハムの神、イサクの神、ヤコブの神である主が、わたしをあなたがたのところへつかわされました』と。これは永遠にわたしの名、これは世々のわたしの呼び名である」。
“I AM” also known as “Yahweh” points to the truth that He is a self-sufficient, self-sustaining God who was, who is, and who will be. 「ヤハウェ」としても知られる「わたしは有る」は、自給自足的で自立的な神であり、かつて存在し、今も存在し、そしてこれからも存在し続けるという真理を指し示しています。
That is what Jesus said that He is. それがイエスがご自身について言われたことです。
Let us not forget that our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, was not just a good moral teacher who did miraculous deeds but is the Son of God! 私たちの救い主であり、主であるイエス・キリストは、奇跡的な行いをした善良な道徳教師だけではなく、神の御子であることを忘れないようにしましょう！
He became a human being for us, lived a perfect and sinless life, and willingly and selflessly died on the cross to atone for our sins, and rose victoriously from the grave. 彼は私たちのために人間となり、完全で罪のない人生を生き、私たちの罪を贖うために進んで無私無欲で十字架上で死に、墓から勝利の甦りを遂げたのです。
Through faith in Him, our sins are forgiven, we are made righteous before God, given the Holy Spirit to dwell in us, and have eternal life together with God. 彼を信じる信仰によって、私たちの罪は赦され、神の前に義とされ、聖霊が私たちの内に宿り、神との永遠のいのちを得るのです。
And because God is with us and dwells in us, we are given the strength to live each day with hope, joy, peace, and love. そして、神が私たちと共にいてくださり、私たちの内に宿ってくださるからこそ、希望、喜び、平安、愛をもって毎日を生きる力が与えられるのです。
God’s presence in our life is what sustains us each day, and I am sure that the seniors of faith here this morning will attest to this truth. 私たちの人生における神の存在は、私たちの毎日を支えるものであり、今朝ここにいる信仰の先輩たちがこの真理を証言してくれると確信しています。
They can testify to the fact that they cling dearly to Jesus and find their rest and comfort and peace in Him by heeding Jesus’ words of invitation and promise such as the following. この信仰の先輩たちは、次のようなイエスの招きと約束の言葉に耳を傾けることで、イエスに親しみ、イエスのうちに安息と慰めと平安を見出している事実を証しすることができます。
Matthew 11:28-30（マタイ１１章２８節—３０節）
“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” 「すべて重荷を負うて苦労している者は、わたしのもとにきなさい。あなたがたを休ませてあげよう。わたしは柔和で心のへりくだった者であるから、わたしのくびきを負うて、わたしに学びなさい。そうすれば、あなたがたの魂に休みが与えられるであろう。わたしのくびきは負いやすく、わたしの荷は軽いからである」。
Matthew 28:20（マタイ２８章２０節）
“and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”「見よ、わたしは世の終りまで、いつもあなたがたと共にいるのである」。
They have learned to rest in Jesus. 信仰の先輩たちはイエスに憩うことを学びました。
Family and friends have come and gone but Jesus has been with them throughout their lifetime. 家族や友人は来ては去って行きましたが、イエスは生涯を通じて彼らと共におられたのです。
We thank you, seniors of the faith, for fervently praying for the church family. 信仰の先輩方が教会家族のために熱心に祈ってくださっていることに感謝します。
We thank you, seniors of the faith, for generously giving to support the church’s work. 信仰の先輩であるみなさんが、教会の働きを支えるために惜しみなく献金してくださることに感謝します。
We thank you, seniors of the faith, for lovingly supporting the church family. 信仰の先輩方、教会家族を愛情をもって支えてくださっていることに感謝します。
We thank you, seniors of the faith, for modeling for us what being faithful is all about! 信仰の先輩方、忠実であるとはどういうことなのか、私たちに模範を示してくださっていることに感謝します！
Let us learn from the seniors of faith recorded for us in the Bible as well as the seniors of faith in our church family of a life well-lived together with God. 私たちは、聖書に記されている信仰の先輩たちから、また私たちの教会家族にいる信仰の先輩たちから、神と共に良く生きた人生を学ぼうではありませんか。
