もう亡くなられましたが、ドイツ系神学者であり、牧師であるラインホールド・ニーバー（1892-1971）という方がいます。彼は「冷静を求める祈り」という有名な祈りを後世に残し、その祈りは今日も私達の間で親しまれています。

全ての道で主を認める

私達は「健やかな時も 病む時も 豊かな時も 貧しき時も」という教会標語と共に日々、歩んでおります。私達の日曜日の礼拝メッセージもこのことに関することをお話しております。
ここ数週間、私達はアブラハム夫妻について、その息子イサクについて、もう一人の息子イシマエルと今日の世界情勢について、そして先々週はイサクの息子ヤコブが経験したことについてお話しました。彼は父イサクの愛情を受けることなく、家を逃亡しました。そして、その中で神との出会いを経験し、その神こそが自分を無条件で愛してくれる父なる神であるということに目覚めていったのです。最後にはその神から直々に「イスラエル」という名前をいただき、彼はその名前を己が名前として受け入れたのです。その時こそ、彼がこの神をわが父として受け入れた時でもありました。
しかし、このヤコブはそこで完璧な人間となったわけではありませんでした。彼には１２人の息子が与えられましたが、彼はその一人、ヨセフを偏愛します。まさしくその愛のかたちはヤコブ自身、その母親であるリベカから受けたものでした。残念なことですが、彼は親が自分にしたことと同じことを子達にしたのです。私達はこの事実を驚き怪しみますが、これが人間というものでありましょう。聖書はそのようなことを隠さずに記しています。すなわちヨセフは他の兄弟を差し置いて父ヤコブから華やかな晴れ着を与えられます。誰が見てもそこには父親のヨセフに対する特別な思いが分かり、そのことが彼の兄弟達の心に苦々しい思いを与え、彼らはヨセフをエジプトに売りとばすのです。今日はそんなヨセフの人生というものを皆さんと共にみてまいりましょう。創世記はその時のヨセフとその兄弟達についてこのように書き記しています。
3ヨセフは年寄り子であったから、イスラエルは他のどの子よりも彼を愛して、彼のために長そでの着物をつくった。4兄弟たちは父がどの兄弟よりも彼を愛するのを見て、彼を憎み、穏やかに彼に語ることができなかった（創世記３７章３節－４節）。
先日、ある約束の時間に教会に向かうべく家を出て、いつものようにフリーウェイに乗ろうとしましたら、その入り口が閉鎖されていました。仕方なく遠回りをして、いつもより時間をかけて教会にきました。何年も同じ道を走り、何分で教会に着くのかということを私は知っていますから、その時間を計算して予定をたてますが、このようなことが起こりますと、当初の計画を変えなければならなくなります。遠回りをしなければならないということは日常の些細なことですが、時に私達は人生計画を大きく変えなければならないことに直面します。突然の病気や事故、災いというものを私達はその予定の中にいれてはいません。しかし、時にそれらは起こります。そうです、私達の人生はそんな思いがけないことの連続なのです。
私達の人生は舞台のようなものです。「劇場における舞台」と「私達の人生の舞台」の違いは劇場の舞台の場合は役者に脚本が手渡され、その始まりと終わり、その間に何が起こるかということを彼らは予め知らされるのですが、私達の人生の舞台にこれからのことが全て書かれている脚本はありません。
ヨセフの人生舞台はまさしくこの脚本のない舞台で、それは想定外の出来事の連続でした。そして、その想定外の出来事とは彼が震災に巻き込まれたとか、病気になったということではなく、彼の人生にはこんな三つの想定外の出来事が起きたのです。
まずヨセフは１）兄弟達の妬みを買い、エジプトに奴隷として売られていきます。そして、２）売られた先で仕えた主人の妻から濡れ衣を着せられて、獄に入れられます。３）獄においては、彼に対して恩義を感じるべき人達から全く忘れられるという経験をし、その獄中生活からなかなか出ることができなくなります。
これらの三つの出来事に共通していることが何だかお分かりでしょうか。兄弟達のねたみ、自分の主人の妻からの仕打ち、命を救った者から忘れ去られること、すべてこれらはヨセフ以外の人によってもたらされたもので、それがヨセフの身にふりかかったということです。言うなれば、これらのことに対してヨセフは自分で主導権を握ることができずに、自分以外の他者によって、その人生が思いがけない方向へと導かれたということなのです。
私達は自分ではどうすることもできないことがあるということを知っています。降ってくる雨を天に押し戻すことはできません。降ってくる雨を私達は受け止めなければならないのです。地震で揺れる大地を止めることはできません。揺れる限り止まるのを待つ以外にないのです。このように自分ではどうすることもできないことは私達の周りには無数にあるのですが、その中には「私達が人にどう思われているか」というようなこともあります。このことは人の心の中で起きていることなので、これまた私達にはどうすることもできないのです。
ヨセフが経験したことはこの最後のことによって引き起こされたものでした。すなわち、彼の兄弟達が、彼の主人の妻が、彼が命を救った者達が、自分をどう思っており、その思いが彼らの言動となってヨセフの人生にまで影響を変えたということです。そしてどれにも共通していることはヨセフは彼らの心から出てきた言動を食い止めることができなかったということであり、時に私達はこのようなことと共に人生の舞台に立ち続けなければならないことがあるのです。
私は時々、釣りに行きます。大漁の日もあれば、そうじゃない日もあります。釣り場に行くと仕掛けを準備して、餌をつけて糸を海に垂れます。あとはじっくりとあたりを待つのです。海は常に潮の流れが変わります。風の向きが変わります。波の大きさも変化します。それによって釣果も大きく変わります。そして、これらは私の力で変えることはできません。どんなにがんばっても潮の流れ、風の向き、波の大きさを自分の願うものに変えることはできないのです。ただ、私が手を加えることができるのは釣り竿と仕掛け、そして餌だけなのです。さらにたとえ万全の準備をして海中に餌と針を沈めても後は魚次第で、そこから先も釣り人ができることはひたすら待つということ以外にないのです。釣れるか釣れないかは魚の気分次第、空腹次第なのです。
私達の苦悩はこの潮の流れ、風の向き、波の大きさ、魚の動きを自分で変えられない時に始まります。私は桟橋でよく釣りをしますが、そこで潮や風や波の動きをどうにかして変えようとしている人、海の中の魚にどんなにこの餌が美味いのか話しかけている人に出会ったことはありません。
ヨセフの人生も自分ではどうすることもできないところで動いていたのです。自分のいたらなさ、過ちならまだしも、自分の人生が他者によって決められ、それが望んでいない方向へと導かれていくということ、そんな不遇を嘆かない人がいるでしょうか。アブラハムにしても、ダビデにしても、エレミヤにしても、聖書は彼らが直面していた不遇に対する彼らの嘆きを記しています。しかし、このヨセフにはそれらの嘆きが見当たらないのです。同じ人間としてそれは信じられないことなのです。
なぜヨセフは諸々の試練を受け止めて、その中に生きることができたのでしょうか。彼はあるものを持っていました。何だったと思いますか。それは彼の神に対する「信仰」です。信仰とは言い方を変えますならば、「信頼」と言うことができましょう。これまでお話しましたようにヨセフの父はヤコブ、ヤコブの父はイサク、そしてイサクの父は信仰の父と呼ばれているアブラハムです。このアブラハムの信仰の継承を後に続く者は確かに引き継ぎました。そして、その先祖の信仰をこのヨセフも引き継いでいたに違いありません。
箴言３章５節から８節には、そんなヨセフの生涯を描写するような言葉が記されています。5 心をつくして主に信頼せよ、自分の知識にたよってはならない。6 すべての道で主を認めよ、そうすれば、主はあなたの道をまっすぐにされる。7 自分を見て賢いと思ってはならない、主を恐れて、悪を離れよ。8 そうすれば、あなたの身を健やかにし、あなたの骨に元気を与える 。
ここにはヨセフの努力が書かれているのではなくて、ヨセフの信仰が、ヨセフの神への信頼が書かれています。ヨセフがもし主に信頼せずに、自分の知識に頼っていたとするならば、その道において主がはたらいておられるということを認めていなかったとするならば、彼はそれが難しいとは分かっていながらも、自分の力だけでその問題を何とかしようとしたことでしょう。しかし、もう一度覚えてください。彼の問題とは「自分の部屋の整理整頓」とか、「自分のライフスタイルを見つめなおす」というようなことではなくて、「自分以外の人間の心の中にあるもの」だったのです。ですから、仮に彼がそれを何とかしようとしても、ただ無力感に打ちのめされていたでしょう。いいえ、事によれば相手も生身の人間、さらに最悪の方向へと事は進んだに違いありません。それこそ、変えられないものを変えようとするところには無理があり、それでもそのことをなんとかしようとしますと、ここに書かれているように私達の身は損なわれ、骨の元気、すなわちその心の健やかさも奪われてしまいます。

O God, give us serenity to accept what cannot be changed, courage to change what should be changed, and wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
ニーバーがここで「心の冷静」という言葉を使っていることはとても深いことです。彼の生涯にも色々なことがあったと思います。その中には私達も今日、体験するような、自分ではどうすることもできないことも多くあったことでしょう。彼はそれらに向き合うことによって、紆余曲折しながらも、変えられないものに直面しても動揺せず、感情を害せずに、その時に心の冷静を保てるようにと祈ることを学んだのでしょう。そして、同時に「変えられないもの」と「変えるべきもの」とを識別する知恵を求め、「変えられること」に対しては果敢にそれに臨み、それを変えようとする勇気を与えてくださいと彼は神に祈ったのでしょう。そして皆さんもお気づきでありましょう、ニーバーのいうところの「心の冷静」とはすなわち「神への信仰」のことなのです。
このニーバーの祈りがどのようにして彼の心に与えられたのかは分かりません。しかし、この祈りはヨセフの生き方に習うような祈りであったということは確かです。そうです、変えられないものと変えるべきものとを識別し、変えられないものに対しては全く神に信頼したヨセフの生涯です。
確かにヨセフも人の子ですから、その時々に心の中に複雑な思いや怒りというものも浮かんできたかもしれません。しかし、その時々に彼は神様の前にその信頼と共に心の冷静を保ったのです。そして、そんなヨセフの信頼に対して神様は目には見えませんが、確かに彼と共におり、その状況の中においても祝福を注ぎ続けてくださったのです。ヨセフが売られた先、エジプトにおける彼の生活というものを創世記３９章２節‐３節はこう記しています。
２主がヨセフと共におられたので、彼は幸運な者となり、その主人エジプトびとの家におった。３その主人は主が彼とともにおられることと、主が彼の手のすることをすべて栄えさせられるのを見た。４そこで、ヨセフは彼の前に恵みを得、そのそば近く仕えた。彼はヨセフに家をつかさどらせ、持ち物をみな彼の手にゆだねた。 ５彼がヨセフに家とすべての持ち物をつかさどらせた時から、主はヨセフのゆえにそのエジプトびとの家を恵まれたので、主の恵みは彼の家と畑とにあるすべての持ち物に及んだ。６そこで彼は持ち物をみなヨセフの手にゆだねて、自分が食べる物のほかは、何をも顧みなかった。
また彼がその主人の家から獄に移された時も獄屋において主はヨセフと共にありました。創世記３９章２１節
２１主はヨセフと共におられて彼にいつくしみを垂れ、獄屋番の恵みをうけさせられた。２２獄屋番は獄屋におるすべての囚人をヨセフの手にゆだねたので、彼はそこでするすべての事をおこなった。２３獄屋番は彼の手にゆだねた事はいっさい顧みなかった。主がヨセフと共におられたからである。主は彼のなす事を栄えさせられた。
そして、その後、不思議な方法によって獄から出されたヨセフは大国エジプトの王、パロからこんな評価を受けました。一度は獄に捕われていた者が一転、このような評価を得、その国のナンバー２になるというようなことは私達に考えられないことです。
３８そこでパロは家来たちに言った、「われわれは神の霊をもつこのような人を、ほかに見いだし得ようか」。３９またパロはヨセフに言った、「神がこれを皆あなたに示された。あなたのようにさとく賢い者はない。４０あなたはわたしの家を治めてください。わたしの民はみなあなたの言葉に従うでしょう。わたしはただ王の位でだけあなたにまさる」。 ４１パロは更にヨセフに言った、「わたしはあなたをエジプト全国のつかさとする」（創世記４１章３８節）
ヨセフに対して、パロをして言わしめた「神の霊をもつこのような人」ということ、また「あなたのようにさとく賢い者はない」という言葉はヨセフが神に全く信頼し、まさしくニーバーの祈りのごとく「変えられないもの」と「変えるべきもの」を冷静に見極めてきた彼の生涯のことを指しているのです。
そして圧巻は、これら一連のヨセフの試練は実は一つところに導かれていたということです。私は先にヨセフの身に起きた三つの想定外についてお話しました。そして、このことは四つ目の想定外のことでした。すなわち彼は最終的にエジプトの宰相、エジプトのナンバー２へとパロによって引き上げられ、それにより大変な飢饉に見舞われ、生命が脅かされる状況にいた父ヤコブと、かつて自分を売った兄弟達とをエジプトへと招くことになるのです。
そしてヨセフはその兄弟達を前にかつて彼をエジプトに売り払った無慈悲な兄弟を前にこう語るのです。７神は、あなたがたのすえを地に残すため、また大いなる救をもってあなたがたの命を助けるために、わたしをあなたがたよりさきにつかわされたのです。８それゆえわたしをここにつかわしたのはあなたがたではなく、神です。神はわたしをパロの父とし、その全家の主とし、またエジプト全国のつかさとされました。 （創世記４５章７節‐８節）
ヨセフの人生には一度ならず、二度も三度も理解できないことが続きました。しかし、彼はそれらを主に委ね歩み、その最後に自分の人生の起きた想定外の三つの出来事の意味がその時に分かったのです。そう、この四つ目の想定外のことは先のできることなら経験したくないと思われた三つの出来事が行きついた先にあったものなのです。まさしくそれはイザヤ書にある言葉そのものです（イザヤ５５章８節‐１３節）
8 わが思いは、あなたがたの思いとは異なり、わが道は、あなたがたの道とは異なっていると主は言われる。9 天が地よりも高いように、わが道は、あなたがたの道よりも高く、わが思いは、あなたがたの思いよりも高い。
皆さん、私達がクリスチャンになるということはイコール信仰者となることです。当たり前のように私達は言っていますが、強調してもう一度、申し上げます。私達は「信仰者」となるのです！「信仰」は私達の飾りではありません。信仰者とは何でしょうか。信仰者はどのようにしてこの人生を歩むのでしょうか。パウロは書いているではありませんか！『わたしたちは、見えるものによらないで、信仰によって歩いているのである』（コリント第二の手紙５章７節）
信仰者とは「変えられるものと変えられないもの」とを見極め、変えられるものに全力を注ぎ、自分の力の及ばないところは神様を信じて、それを委ねる者達のことをいいます。その時に私達は目の前に見ているものだけではなく、その背後にあるお方の見えないみわざに目を注ぐのです。自分の理解によって全てを知ろうとはせずに、神の思いと道は自分の思いと道とは異なり、それらは遥かに自分のそれよりも高いということを信じることです。かつてはこのようなことを知らずに生きていた者が、「信仰」という字が示すごとく、たとえ四面楚歌と思われる状況の中でも顔をあげて無限に広がる天を仰ぐことが許されている、それが信仰者なのです。お祈りしましょう。
To Recognize God in Every Path

As written on the front of our weekly programs, we walk with the words, “In health, in suffering, in wealth and in poverty”. Our Sunday messages are also in relation to this ‘motto.’
These past few weeks, we have talked about Abraham and his wife, his son Isaac, and his other son Ishmael and the situations present in the world today. The week before last, we spoke of the experiences of Isaac’s son Jacob. He had run away from home, not having received his father’s love. During this time, he meets God and realizes that God is his heavenly father who loves him unconditionally. He receives the name “Israel” from God, and accepts it has his own. This was also the time when he accepted God as his father.
But that didn’t mean that Jacob became a perfect person. He was given 12 sons but favored one: Joseph. It was the same kind of love Jacob had received from his mother Rebecca. Unfortunately, he did the same thing his parents had done to him. We may be surprised as to why, but this is how we as humans are. The bible does not hide theses facts. Disregarding his brothers, Joseph receives an ornate robe from his father Jacob. It is clear to see that Joseph was special in his father’s eyes, which created hatred in his brother’s hearts, eventually causing them to sell him off to Egypt. Today we will be looking at this life of Joseph. It is written in Genesis,
“Now Israel loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old age; and he made an ornate robe for him. When his brothers saw that their father loved him more than any of them, they hated him and could not speak a kind word to him.” (Genesis 37:3-4)
A while back, after I left my house for an appointment here at church, I noticed the freeway exit which I usually take was closed. Without much option, I took a detour taking more time then I would have normally. Because I have driven to church for many years on the same route, I know how long it would take for me to get to church from my house, but when something like this happens, I must replan. To take a detour is a trivial matter in daily life, but we come across
times when we must make huge changes in important life plans. We do not plan to get sick, injured, or be in a catastrophe. But they do happen at times. Yes, our lives are a continuation of events we do not expect.
Our live is like a stage. The difference between a stage at a theater and the stage of our life is that in a theater, actors are given scripts that inform them of the beginning, end, and all of the events that take place in-between. But we do not have a script to follow in our lives.
The stage of Joseph’s life was also one without a script, a continuation of unexpected events. And theses unexpected events that he came across was not a natural disaster or an illness, but the following 3 things:
- Being the target of his brother’s jealousy, and being sold into slavery in Egypt
- Being falsely accused by the wife of his master, and put into jail
- Being forgotten by those who owe him gratitude, and left in jail for a long number of years
Do you see something in common with these 3 events? The jealousy of his brothers, the false accusation by his master’s wife, and to be forgotten by someone who’s life he saves; these were all brought on not by Joseph himself but others. In other words Joseph did not have any control over the things that occurred in his life, but was continuously directed into the unexpected.
We all know there are times when we have no control of matters. We cannot send back the rain that falls from the heavens. We cannot stop the ground from shaking when an earthquake strikes. All we can possibly do is wait until it stops. There are countless numbers of things such as these, that we have absolutely no power over. What others think is one. We cannot do anything to control the things inside the head of another person.
The things that Joseph experienced were do to this. In other words, what his brothers, master’s wife, and the man who’s life he saved thought of him became their actions and effected Joseph’s life. And the truth we see in all three situations is that Joseph could do nothing to stop them. There will be times when we face similar situations as we stand on the stage of life.
I occasionally go fishing. There are days when the catch is big, and days that isn’t. At the fishing place, first you prepare the rod and tackle, attach the bait and extend the line into the water.
Then you wait. The current of the open sea is constantly changing. The wind also changes. The waves change, and so does the catch. These things cannot be changed by our will. No matter how much I wish, the current, wind, and waves will not change. The only thing I can change is the fishing rod, tackle, and bait. Even with prefect preparation and set up, in the end it is up to the fish. All that can be done by the fisher is to continuously wait. The catch depends on the mood of the fish, and how hungry it is.
The uncontrollable current, wind, waves, and the fishes mood is what causes us distress. I often fish at the peer but I have yet to meet someone who tries to change the current or wind, nor anyone trying to persuade the fish just how delicious the bait is.
Joseph’s life was also effected by these uncontrollable aspects. Although it would be still acceptable if caused by your own incompetence or error, but for your life to be controlled by the will of other people; how anyone possibly not complain or grieve such misfortune? Whether it be Abraham, David or Jeremiah, the bible shows the grief of these men in their misfortune. But how about Joseph? No record of his grief can be found. As a fellow human, his is hard to believe.
Why could Joseph accept and live through such trials? He had one thing. What do you think this could be? This was his “faith” in his God. Another way to put it is that Joseph “trusted” God. As we had spoken of previously, Joseph’s father is Jacob, Jacob’s father is Isaac, Isaac’s father is Abraham. Abraham’s faith was certainly inherited, and Joseph had also inherited this same faith.
In Proverbs 3:5-8 it is written as if to depict the life of Joseph, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”
Here, it is not the efforts of Joseph which is written, but Joseph’s faith, Joseph’s trust in God. If Joseph had not trusted God and relied on his own understanding, If he had not believed that God is at work in that path, even with little hope, he would have tried to change things with his own hands. But please remember, his issues were not a matter of “putting his room in order” or “reexamining his lifestyle” but was “the thought of others”. So even if he had made an effort to change things, he would have been knocked back down by the sense of helplessness. Or depending on the circumstance, things could have been made worse. This is just how impossible it is to try and change the unchangeable, and efforts to are met loss of health and nourishment to our bones.
Although he has already passed away, there is a German theologian and pastor called Reinhold Niebuhr. He is well known for his “Serenity Prayer” which is still widely used today.
O God, give us serenity to accept what cannot be changed, courage to change what should be changed, and wisdom to distinguish the one from the other.
In his prayer, Niebuhr uses the word “serenity”. Just like anyone of us, Niebuhr also had situations in his life out of his control. By facing these twists and turns in his life, he learned to accept and calmly pray in serenity. He learned the differences of “what can’t be changed” and “what should be changed”, and strived to make those changes by asking God for courage in his prayers. You may have already noticed, but the “Serenity” in Niebuhr’s prayer was “faith”.
We do not know how this prayer came to be in Niebuhr’s heart. But we do know that this prayer is one that also depicts the life of Joseph. The life of Joseph which discerned what can and cannot be changed, fully trusting God with the things beyond his control.
Joseph, also being human, may have also experienced mixed emotions in his heart during his hardships. But he maintained his trust and serenity towards God. And in response to Joseph’s trust, God was with him, pouring his blessings over him. Joseph’s life in Egypt where he was sold off to, is described in Genesis 39:2-6,
“The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant. Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to his care everything he owned. From the time he put him in charge of his household and of all that he owned, the Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had, both in the house and in the field. So Potiphar left everything he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in charge, he did not concern himself with anything except the food he ate.”
Even after Joseph was put into prison, God was with him. Genesis 39:21-23
“the Lord was with him; he showed him kindness and granted him favor in the eyes of the prison warden. So the warden put Joseph in charge of all those held in the prison, and he was made responsible for all that was done there. The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph’s care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.”
And after Joseph was released from prison in a miraculous way, he was valued by the the Pharaoh of Egypt in the following way. It is unbelievable to us how a man forgotten in prison could become the second most important person of a country.
“So Pharaoh asked them, “Can we find anyone like this man, one in whom is the spirit of God?”Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.” So Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt.”” (Genesis 41:38-41)
The Pharaoh referred to Joseph as one that “God has made known to” and that “no one is as discerning and wise”. This was surely because Joseph trusted God, being able to discern what can and cannot be changed through God’s serenity.
And the highlight is, that all of the trials put before Joseph was in preparation of one thing. We talked of the three unexpected events that occurred in Joseph’s life. And these all led to the fourth unexpected event. This was to be made the Egypt’s prime minister, the second in power, and meet his father and brothers who had once sold him in time of famine.
When Joseph meets his brothers once again, he says to them, “But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance.“So then, it was not you who sent me here, but God. He made me father to Pharaoh, lord of his entire household and ruler of all Egypt.”
In Joseph’s life there was not just one, but also a second and third unexpected event. But he entrusted them to God and continued to walk until he finally arrived to the answer of why they had happened. The fourth unexpected event could only occur because he had experienced the first three events which we would normally hope to avoid. It is just as written in the book of Isaiah, (Isaiah 55:8-9)
““For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Dear brothers and sisters, for us to become Christians equals becoming a believer. We think this obvious but I will stress this again. We are to be “Believers”! “Faith” is not a mere ornament.
What does it mean to be a believer. How are believers to live their lives? Paul has written, “For we live by faith, not by sight.” (Corinthians 5:7)
A believer is to discern what “can and cannot be changed”, and give their all in making the changes possible, while trusting God in the matters out of our control. Only then can God use us in ways we don’t yet see. Don’t judge things based on your own understandings but believe that God’s ways are different then your own ways, and His ways are higher than ours. For someone who had lived without this knowledge to come to understand and accept this is what it means to be a believer. Lets pray.

４）箴言３章５節ー８節を読みましょう。なぜ自分の知識に頼るな、自らを賢いと思うなとここに書かれているのでしょうか。私達の知識とか、私達の賢さというのはいかほどのものでしょか。
５）ラインホールド・ニーバーは「神よ、変えられないもを受け入れる心の冷静さを与えたまえ。変えるべきものを変える勇気を与えたまえ。そして、変えられないものと変えるべきものを識別する知恵を与えたまえ」という祈りを捧げました。この祈りはあなたにどんな思いを与えますか。
６）創世記３９章２節‐６節、創世記３９章２１節ー２３節、創世記４１章３８節を読みましょう。ヨセフ自ら変えることができない状況の中で何が起きていましたか。
７）最終的にヨセフはエジプトの宰となりました（創世記４１章３８節ー４１節） 。このことによるヨセフはかつて自分を売り払った兄弟をはじめ家族を救うことができました。創世記４５章７節‐８節を読みましょう。このヨセフの言葉から彼が経験した試練はどのように評価されますか。
８）あなたはヨセフの生涯から何を学びましたか。それはどのようにあなたの人生に置き換えることができますか。
