ゼカリヤ：「能力によらず、権勢によらず」

先週はハガイ書を通してイスラエルの民がかつてはバビロンの捕囚民となっており、しかし、そのバビロンもペルシヤによって滅ぼされ、イスラエルの民達の身柄はペルシャのクロス王に移ったということ、しかし、なんとこの異教の王がイスラエルの民を無償で故国イスラエルに帰還させ、それのみならず、エルサレムにある彼らの荒廃した神殿を再建させるための資材をも提供したということ、民達はそのような信じがたい待遇を受けつつ、故国に帰還し、神殿再建のための物資まで供給されていながら、様々な障害に直面し、ついには彼らの心は神殿の再建から離れ、自らの家のことばかりに彼らの思いは注がれ、神殿は実に１６年もの間、放置されていたということをお話しました。
そこで今日、お話します預言書、ゼカリヤ書ですが、その著者はその名のとおりゼカリヤという預言者でした。実はこのゼカリヤは先週、お話ししました預言者ハガイと同時代の人であり、互いに神殿再建のビジョンに取り組んでいたパートナーであり、ゆえに彼も再び神殿を造ることを民に勧め、励ました人だったのです。今日はまずこのゼカリヤが生きた時代にいたるまでのこと、すなわち「歴史に介入される神」について見ていきましょう。
歴史に介入される神
登山をする時に私達はその登ってきた標高が高くなれば高くなるほど、自分達がどのような道程を歩いてきたのかを見渡せるようになります。私達の「一つにとらわれず、全体を！」シリーズもいよいよ、旧約聖書に関していえば、その山頂に近づきつつあります。富士山で言えば五合目で、山頂はすぐ目の前に見えているという位置でしょうか。これまで歩んできた道程を振り返れば、二合目では知りえなかったこと、四合目では分からなかったことも、ここから眺めれば見えてくることがあります。さて、それではこのゼカリヤ書から見渡すことができるこれまでの歩みはどんなものだったのでしょうか。この時から２００ほど昔にあった預言者イザヤの預言の言葉を眺めてみましょう。
聖書、イザヤ書にはイスラエルの民の帰還と神殿再建のきっかけとなったペルシャのクロス王について、クロスが生まれる２００年以上も昔に彼の実名を名指しして預言し、そのクロスがバビロンの捕囚民となっていたイスラエル民族を解放し（実際にその時、まだイスラエルはバビロンの捕囚にさえなっていませんでした）、祖国に帰還させ、しかもその荒れ廃れた神殿を再建させるという預言が記されています。すなわち・・・
イザヤ４４章２８節、またクロスについては、『彼はわが牧者、わが目的をことごとくなし遂げる』と言い、エルサレムについては、『ふたたび建てられる』と言い、神殿については、『あなたの基がすえられる』と言う」。
イザヤ４５章１節ー３節、『わたしはわが受膏者クロスの右の手をとって、もろもろの国をその前に従わせ、もろもろの王の腰を解き、とびらをその前に開かせて、門を閉じさせない、と言われる主はその受膏者クロスにこう言われる、「わたしはあなたの前に行って、もろもろの山を平らにし、青銅のとびらをこわし、鉄の貫の木を断ち切り、あなたに、暗い所にある財宝と、ひそかな所に隠した宝物とを与えて、わたしは主、あなたの名を呼んだイスラエルの神であることをあなたに知らせよう』
イザヤ４５章１３節、わたしは義をもってクロスを起した。わたしは彼のすべての道をまっすぐにしよう。彼はわが町を建て、わが捕囚を価のためでなく、また報いのためでもなく解き放つ」と万軍の主は言われる。
イザヤがこれらの預言を書き記した時にクロス王はまだこの地上に生まれていませんし、さらにイスラエルはまだ、バビロンの捕囚民にすらなっていなかったのです！
このことについて最近「世界最初の人権宣言」というくさび文字の古文書が大英博物館に保管されていると聞いて鳥肌がたちました。その宣言はくさび文字で記録された円柱の古文書で書かれたある王の宣言であり、な、なんと、その宣言を出したのは、私が今、皆さんにお話していますクロスその人であり、この文書によればクロスがバビロンを滅ぼしたとあり、彼は諸民族を解放し、弾圧や圧政を廃し、宗教の自由を与え、寛容な支配を繰り広げた様が描かれており、この円柱は世界最初の人権憲章とされているというのです。
このクロス王が王であったペルシャとは現在のイランを意味し、１９３５年までイランはペルシャと呼ばれていたとういうことをご存知でしょうか。現職のイランの大統領であるアフマディーネジャードのイスラエルに対する発言は近年、過激さを増すばかりで、彼はイスラエル国家を認めず、イスラエルはそのイランの核開発を警戒しており、いつイスラエルがこのイランの核開発施設を先制攻撃するかということがここ数年言われています。このように現在、イスラエルがこの地球上で最も警戒している国がこのイラン、かつてクロス王が統治し、イスラエルの民を解放し、神殿再建の援助をした国がペルシャであったということは、私達を驚かせます人の歴史はついこの間まで力のある国が力のない国々を植民地支配していました。聖書の時代の王達も誰もが独裁的、残虐で、とても人権などを念頭に置くことがなかったということを思います時に、このクロス王のイスラエルの民に対する待遇というのは驚きというよりも本来、絶対にありえない話です。
しかし、そのようなありえないことについても既にイザヤはこのように預言していました「価のためでなく、また報いのためでもなく捕囚民を解き放った」。そして、それはクロスという人間が高貴な者であったというよりも、その背後には確かに神がおられたというのです。またクロスについては、『彼はわが牧者、わが目的をことごとくなし遂げる』とイザヤが神の言葉を残している通りです。
私達はゼカリヤという旧約聖書の山頂に近い場所からこのような、その時には分からなかった、それまでのイスラエルの歩みを眺めることができるのです。そして、その時に、まさしく彼らの歩みは孤立無援の歩みではなくて、その長い歩み、すなわち彼らが歩んできた歴史の背後には確かに神がおられ、このお方はその時には気がつかなかったけれど、イスラエルの民の歩みのために一国の政策にも介入されていたということを私達は知ることができるのです。そして、それは人事ではなく、さらに、そのゼカリヤの時代から２５００年後の今を生きる私達にもこのクロス王にはたらきかけたのと同じ神が私達一人一人とも共におられ、その生涯を導いているのです。
皆さん、「一つのことに捕らわれずに全体を見る」ということの醍醐味はここにあります。私達の日常生活はいくつもの細かな出来事で満ちています。私達は日々、それに没頭します。しかし、同時に私達がこの大きな視点をもいつも有していることはとても大切です。 言い方を変えますのなら、細かな出来事から導かれていくことによって、早々に結論を出してはいけないということです。全ての事柄が神の手の中にあるのですから、そうである限り私達は事の成り行きを神の御手に委ねつつ、その最善のみ業がなるように祈り、自分達の出来る事を一日、一日、最善を成して生きるべきです。
二週間前の日曜日、礼拝に出席していたかつての私の学友を皆さんに紹介しました。実に彼の卒業以来でしたから、２５年ぶりの再会となりました。イスラエルの歴史における数千年とは比べ物にならない短い年月ですが、人の一生ということを考えますのなら、その２５年が私達の生涯にしめる年月は長いものです。この互いの２５年間について、私達はしみじみと色々なことを語り合いました。
この国に来た当初、その始まりにきっと皆さんも色々なチャレンジを受けたことでしょう。ホームシックになったり、文化や生活習慣に慣れるのに時間がかかり、日本に帰ろうかと考えた方も多くいらっしゃると思います。
実に私もそのような時を過ごしたことがありました。しかし、そのような時に、お話しましたように、彼は寮にいる者たちが皆、帰省してしまう、私にとって米国で一番最初のサンクスギビングに留学生の私を実家に招いてくれた友です。延々と続く南北に続く、アパラチャ山脈に平行して、何もないバージニア州を延々と北上し、１３時間かけて彼の実家にあるニュージャージーに彼はハンドルを握りました。その時のアパラチャの紅葉の美しさを忘れることができません。英語が話せない自分と１３時間もの間、二人っきりの車の中で何を話していたのだろうかと今、思うのです。彼はコロンビア人、私は日本人、何の接点もないように思われます。しかし、確かに彼の存在は孤独になりがちなあの時の私を支えてくれました。皆さんの生涯にも思い起こされる、あの顔、この顔があるでしょう。私はこの友人の存在を思う時に、クロスの心にはたらかれた父なる神を思うのです。
彼の家に着きますと「これからサンクスギビング礼拝に行く」といいます。行ってその時、初めて分かったのはさっきまで一緒にキッチンでコーヒーを飲んでいた友人の父は牧師であり、その晩、教会でメッセージを語っていました。「お前の父親が牧師だなんて、聞いていないぞ」と思いつつ、そこで見た光景はそれまで日本の礼拝では見たことのない、南米出身者が集う情熱的なペンテコステ礼拝。圧倒されて、しばらく言葉が出ませんでした。
そのような日々を思いおこしつつ、「お前がいなければ俺のキャンパスライフはしんどかったなー」と私が言えば「お前が牧師の子には見えなかったな～」と言われ「人のこと言えるか」と互いに苦笑いし「俺は親元を離れて、あの時は信仰を失っていたんだ」「そうか、お前もか、俺もだ」と笑い、でも、２５年を経て、その互いの歩んできた年月を振り返った時に、二人が一致したことは、「放蕩息子が神のあわれみにより父なる神様のもとに立ち返った」ということであり、そのことをしみじみと話しました。
そして、振り返ればその間に自分達が経験したことは何一つ、無駄ではなかったということでした。こう思います時に、私達は身近に起きる一つ、二つの出来事で、自らのことを結論づけてはなりませんし、その時にも神は私達の人生と共におられるということであり、後になって私達が信仰をもってその歩みを見るのなら、確かにマイナスと思われることがプラスと変えられていたのだということに気がつくということでした。まさしく２５年前には分からなかった、知りえなかったことがらをその長い年月の間に神はなしていてくださったのだと自分達の２５年間という私達の生きた歴史にはたらかれていた神様について思い起こし、互いに確認できたことはとても感謝なことでありました。二つ目のことをお話しましょう。それは「あなたに今、はたらかれている神」ということです。
あなたに今、はたらかれている神
国々の歴史に介入された神様についてお話しましたが、これから見ていきたいことはこの神様がイスラエルの民達にもはたらきかけたということです。イスラエルの民はクロス王ゆえに故国に帰還し、ハガイやゼカリヤの励ましとリーダーシップにより、神殿の再建に取りかかり、四年の年月をかけ、紀元前５１６年、神殿は遂に完成したのです。その完成にいたる前にゼカリヤはこのような言葉をもって民を励まし指導しました。
9万軍の主は、こう仰せられる、「万軍の主の家である宮を建てるために、その礎をすえた日からこのかた、預言者たちの口から出たこれらの言葉を、きょう聞く者よ、あなたがたの手を強くせよ。10この日の以前には、人も働きの価を得ず、獣も働きの価を得ず、また出る者もはいる者も、あだのために安全ではなかった。わたしはまた人々を相たがいにそむかせた。11しかし今は、わたしのこの民の残れる者に対することは、先の日のようではないと、万軍の主は言われる。12そこには、平和と繁栄との種がまかれるからである。すなわちぶどうの木は実を結び、地は産物を出し、天は露を与える。わたしはこの民の残れる者に、これをことごとく与える。13ユダの家およびイスラエルの家よ、あなたがたが、国々の民の中に、のろいとなっていたように、わたしはあなたがたを救って祝福とする。恐れてはならない。あなたがたの手を強くせよ」（ゼカリヤ８章９節‐１３節）。
ハガイ書でもお話しましたが、彼らが神殿再建に取りかからずに、自分のことだけに精力を注いでいた時には彼らは自分の働きの報いを十分に得ることなく、敵を前にして安全ではなく、同国民の間でも相反するというような一生懸命に自らのことに力を注げば注ぐほどに空回りするような時を過ごしていました。
しかし、彼らが己の使命に立ち返り、自らのことよりも神の宮を再建させることに力を注ぎ、それを実際に成し遂げた時に、神様は先の日にはなかった、驚くべき祝福を彼らに与えたのです。すなわち、そこには平和と繁栄が回復されていき、かつては呪いとなっていたような者達が祝福の源になっていくというのです。
皆さん、これはイスラエルの民一人一人になされたとても力強い神の祝福です。ここには「かつては呪いとなっていた者が祝福の源となる」と書かれています。ハガイ書の時に神様が私達を祝福するのであって、私達が自分を祝福するのではないとお話しました。しかし、もし神様が私達を祝福してくださるのなら、私達に神様が祝福してくださるその祝福が私達から溢れ出すかのようにして、他の人達への祝福となっていくというのです。これはわが身を本当に知る私達にとって身に余ることです。
私はこのような驚くべきことをお話します時にいつも私の神学校で教えていただいた恩師である藤巻充先生のことを思い出します。このことはまさしく先生のライフメッセージでした。先生はその著書、『聖書は語る』の中にご自身について書いておられます。
『わたしの小学生時代のあだ名は「左巻き」でした。それは私の「藤巻」という名前が悪いのです。「藤巻、のり巻き、左巻き」と言ってはやしたてられました。嫌な人間だったからそういうあだ名がつけられたのです。かわいいあだ名がつけられるのは、かわいいからなのです。そうのように学校でいじめられたり、からかわれたりしますと、その反動で母親や時には妹、あるいは犬や猫にまで八つ当たりするのです。代償を求めないではいられないからです。そして家庭内暴力に走ってしまうのです。学校でうまくいかないから、その腹いせ、その復讐を家でするわけで代償を家で求めるのです。わたしは近所の人には評判がよかったのですが、家では大騒ぎ、大立ち回りをしていました。
学校に行きましても「お前は学校始まって以来の木偶の坊である」と先生に言われまして、「木偶の坊とは何ですか」と聞きましたら、「おまえのことだ」と言われました。ある国語の先生からは「お前は丼野朗だ（どんぶりやろう）」と言われましても、意味が分からないのです。母からはよく「充、お前がいなければ、この家は明るいのに、おまえのために家は真っ暗だ」と言われました』（『聖書は語る』 藤巻充著 PP３８１、３８２）。
『教師にとっても私は学校に来ない方がよかったのでしょう。私なんか辞めてくれた方がよかったのです』。そんな暗澹たる思いで先生は日々を過ごしていましたから、学校を何度も退学され、その回数は１７回となったといいます。『友達にも良い感情は持っていませんでした。だから、友達もいませんでした。しかし、このような私がクリスチャンになりました時に神の恵みというものが分かりました。神が赦してくださった。神が受け入れてくださった。神が罪の赦しと永遠の命を約束してくださったのです』。
それからの藤巻先生に何が起きたのでしょうか。先生はある学校に入りました。クリスチャンになる前は誰かがやすみますと「ざま見ろ。もっと休め」と思っていたのですが、クリスチャンになりましてからは自分が登校拒否をしていた時に誰も訪ねてくれなかったことを思い出して、クラスが終わっても教室に残り、メモをしてその人の所に届けに行ったり、郵送したりするようになりました。そういう学校生活が始まりますと、学校生活が楽しくなりました。そしてそれまでは憎しみの対象であったような先生や友達もすばらしいと思えるようになりました。
その時、全てが変わっていきました。先生も友達も私のために一生懸命にしてくれるようになりました。「友達のために」と思っていたことは実はその人のためだけではなく、自分でもびっくりするような成績をとるようになりました。できるだけわかりやすくメモを取るよう努力をしているうちに、自然と自分自身が学んでいたのです。それから先生のことも好きになり、その先生が教える学科が大好きになりました。
かつて１７回、学校を退学し、木偶の坊、丼野朗、母親からお前がいなければといわれ、家の中ではその母親に暴力をふるっていた、そんな先生は長い間、そして今も牧師として神と人に仕え、現在は後任があたっておりますが、牧師を養成する神学校の院長をつとめ、現在はその神学校の名誉教授となられているのです。先生は学校でも家庭でものろいとなるような存在でありながら、その先生が他者を祝福することができるようなものへと変えられていったのです。
私達はこのゼカリヤ書の中に記されているある言葉をよく聞くことがあります。その言葉が今日、お話したことを全てまとめて言っています。それはゼカリヤ４章６節の言葉、『万軍の主は仰せられる、これは権勢によらず、能力によらず、わたしの霊によるのである』です。
神がイスラエルになされた大いなること、ペルシヤの王、クロスにはたらきかけ、一国の歩みを変えた大いなるはたらき、それはクロス自身の権勢によらず、クロス自身の能力によらず、ただ神様の霊なる働きでした。
そして、かつては「のろい」となっていたような、イスラエルの民達が祝福の源と変えられたこと、必要などない、いらないと言われ続けていた藤巻先生が、多くの人達を祝福する人に変えられたということ、それはすべてイスラエルの民や藤巻先生の権勢によらず、能力によらず、ただ神様の一方的なあわれみによったのです。
今日、この大いなるお方の関与と共に、この恵み深きお方が私達を祝福の基となるような者に変えてあげようと私達にも語りかけています。このことをあなたは信じますか。あなたがこのことを自覚し、このことを主に願い求め、主を第一として生きていくのであるならば、このことはあなた自身の生涯に成就していくのです。
私達はどんな生涯を自ら選び取っていくのでしょうか。神に祝福され、その祝福が満ち溢れ、こんな私達のようなものが祝福の基となり、誰かを祝福できるようにされる、これ以上の人生があるでしょうか。お祈りしましょう。

Book of Zechariah
01 – 27 – 2013
Last week I spoke to you through the Book of
Haggai about the people of Israel who became the prisoners of Babylonia.
However, Babylonia was destroyed by Persia and the people of Israel were moved
to Persia under the King Cyrus. But this King of paganism have released and
returned the Israelite to their homeland, Israel, without any gratis. Not only
that, the King Cyrus gave them the materials to rebuild their ruined temple in
Jerusalem. However, their mind have drifted away from rebuilding of the temple,
since they have run into many difficulties. Their mind were only set to build
their own houses. Rebuilding of the temple was neglected for 16 years.
The book of prophecy that I am going to speak
today is a Book of Zechariah written by prophet Zechariah as a book itself
indicates. Zechariah has lived at same time as prophet Haggai whom I spoke about
last week. Both had a vision for rebuilding of the temple and they were
partners. For that, he too urged and encouraged the people to rebuild the
temple. Today I want to look at the time, until Zachariah had lived; that is, I
want look at “ the God who has intervened in the history”.
The God who has intervened in the
history;
When we climb up the mountain, higher and higher we go, we can see our
path where we have travel. For the old testaments, our series of “Focusing not
on a part but on overall picture”, is about to reach the summit. Comparing with
Mount Fuji, we are about at fifth stage where we can see the summit right in
front of our eyes.
If you look back at the path that we
took, we can see the things that we had no knowledge of at second stage and the
things that we did not understand at fourth stage. Then what were the paths
that we took? Let us look at them from the book of Zechariah. Lets look at the
words of prophecy that prophet Isaiah said 200 years before that time.
The book of Isaiah prophesied the name of
Cyrus, who was involved in releasing of people of Israel and rebuilding of the
temple, 200 years before he was born. It also prophesied that Cyrus released
the people of Israel who were the exiles of Babylonia ( even though Israelite
were not captured as a exiles yet ), return them to their homeland and made
them rebuild the ruined temple.
Isaiah 44: 28 says, who says of Cyrus, “ He
is my Shepherd and will accomplish all that I please; he will say of Jerusalem,
'let it be rebuilt,” and of the temple, “let its foundation be laid.”
Isaiah 45: 1 thru 3 says, “ This is what the Lord says to
his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand
I take hold of to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their armor,
to open doors before him so that gates will not be shut:I will go before you
and will level the mountains; I will break down gates of bronze and cut through
bars of iron. I will give you the treasures of darkness,riches stored in secret
places, so that you may know that I am the lord, the God of Israel, who call
you by name ”
Isaiah 45: 13 says, “I will raise up Cyrus
in my righteousness: I will make all his ways straight. He will rebuild my city
and set my exiles free, but not for a price or reward, says the Lord almighty”
When Isaiah wrote these prophesies, king Cyrus
was not even born and Israelite were not exiles of Babylonia at that time.
When I heard recently that an ancient
document, the world fist declaration of
human right, that is written in cuneiform characters was kept in British
Museum,
I became all goose pimples. That
declaration is an ancient document that is documented with all cuneiform
characters on round column and is a declaration of
the certain king. What, the person
who issued this declaration was none other than a person whom I am telling you
right now, the Cyrus himself. According to this document, as it describes, that
after Cyrus destroyed the Babylonia, he released the people of other races,
eliminated the suppression and tyranny, gave freedom of religions, and governed
with leniency. This round column is now known as a world first declaration of
human right.
The Persia that the Cyrus was a king once, is
now known as the Iran. Did you know that until 1935, Iran was called Persia. In
recent years, the president of Iran,
Ahmadinejad, became very vocal
against the Israel. He does not recognize Israel as a country and became
radical against Israel. Israel is very wary of Iran's development of nuclear
weapons and, in recent years, there are many talks about Israel attacking the
Iran's nuclear facility. As of now, the
country that Israel is must cautious in this world is the Iran. For, it is
surprising to find out that the Persia was a country where once the king Cyrus
ruled, released the people of Israel and helped Israelite rebuild the temple.
Until recently, history shows that, the
powerful country acts as colonial ruler for the weaker one. For who ever were
king, at the bible time, were dictatorial, merciless and had no consideration
for the human right. Therefore, when we think about King Cyrus' treatment of
the Israel people, it is rather surprising, actually in the nature of things,
it is impossible to be happening.
Yet, Isaiah has prophesied even on this
impossible happening, “ He will set my exiles free, but not for a price or
reward”. The God was definitely with the Cyrus not because he was a person
of noble birth. For Cyrus, Isaiah left these Gods words, “ He is my Shepherd
and will accomplish all that I please”.
We can see the path that Israelite took until
than, from near the summit of old testaments, the book of Zechariah, that we
did not know before. The God was with them on their long journey, that is their
path to their history, for they were not alone on their journey. However, they
did not know at the time but we can see it now, that the God was also involved
in a country's politics for the Israelite journey.
Even after 2,500 years from the time
of Zachariah, that same god that was with the King Cyrus is with us now and
leading our life today.
An ecstasy of
“ Focusing not on a part but on overall picture ” is in here. Our
daily life is filled with small happenings. We are immersed in them daily. But
at same time, it is important for us to hold on to this big point of visions.
In other words, we should not make a quick decision guided by the results of
small happenings. Every thing is within the God hand, for that, we should leave
the results on the God hand and pray that best deed will be done and should
live our daily life by doing what ever we can and best we can.
Two weeks ago Sunday, I introduced to
you my former school friend who attended the worship service. I have not seen
him for 25 years, since he graduated. It can not compared with few thousands
years of Israel history, but if think about life of human beings, 25 years are
long time for us now. We talk about many things heartily about our past 25
years.
In the beginning, some of you must have run
into many challenges when you arrive in this country, for the first time. Many
people have felt the home sickness, took time to get use to the custom and the
life style, and thought about going back to Japan. Indeed, I too have spend the
time like that. As I told you before, In the midst of time like that, and every
body left the dormitory for the Thanksgiving holidays, he was the friend who
have invited me to his house on my first Thanksgiving in USA. He drove for 13
hours to his home in New Jersey, driving north through Virginia and running
parallel with long chains of Appalachian Mountains. I can not forget the
beautiful colors of autumn leaves on Appalachians.
I'm wondering now what was our
conversations were about. For 13 hours, just 2 of us with one, that is I, who
could not speak any English. He is a Colombian and I am Japanese, there seems
to be no point of contact. Yet, for certain, his existence has supported me
when ever I became lonely. You probably have a few faces that you think about
in your life time. When I think about existence of this friend, I think about
the God the father who worked in heart of Cyrus.
When we arrived, first thing I heard was, “ We
are going to Thanksgiving service
Now. ” By attending the service, I
found out that his father, who was drinking coffee with us a little while ago
in kitchen, was a pastor who gave the message that night. I thought to myself,
“ Hey, you did not tell me your father was a pastor.”
The scene I saw there was not
anything I have seen at service in Japan. It was passionate Pentecostal service
with all the people from South America. I was so overwhelmed, that I was
speechless for a while.
By remembering the past, I said to
him, “Without you, my campus life would been strained.” Then he said to me “
You didn't look like a pastor's son, then “, so I said to him “ How can you say
that to me “ and we both smiled. “ I lost my faith at that time since I was
away from my parent “ “Is that so, you
too, me too “ and we both laughed. But when we look back past 25 yeas, we both
agreed, that “by the God blessing, the prodigal sons were able to return to our
God the Father “. We talk about it
heartily.
And looking back, the experiences that we
gained during that period, none of them were wasteful. If you think about it,
we should not arrive at conclusions by one or two things that happens immediately
around us. Even then, the God is with our life. Later, if we look back our
paths with a faith, we come to realize that,
every things that we thought were
negatives were changed into positive things.
We are thankful that we were able to
confirm that the God had worked, during our 25 years of life history, for
things that we did not know or understand at time time.
Lets go on to second topic, that is “
God is working on you, now “.
God is working on you, now:
So far, I talk about the God who intervened in the history of countries.
Now I wants to look at the God who has also worked on people of Israel. The
people of Israel were able to return to their home land because of king Cyrus,
and were able to start rebuilding of the temple with leadership and
encouragement of Haggai and Zechariah, and after 4 years, in 516 BC, finally
the rebuilding was completed.
Before the temple was rebuild,
Zechariah used following words to encourage and guide the people.
This is what the Lord Almighty says, “ You
who now hear these words spoken by the prophet who were there when the
foundation was laid for the house of the Lord Almighty, your hands be strong so
that the temple may be
built. Before that time there were no
wages for man or beast. No one could go about his business safely because of
his enemy for I had turned every man against his neighbor. But now I will not
deal with the remnant of this people as I did in the past “ declares the Lord
Almighty. The seed will grow well, the vine will yield its fruit, the ground
will produce its crops, and the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all
these things as an inheritance to the remnant of this people. As you have been
an object of cursing among the nations, O Judah and Israel, so will I save you,
and you will be a blessing. Do not be afraid, but let your hands be strong.” ( Zechariah 8; verses 9 thru 13 )
As I said from Book of Haggai, They could not
be compensated enough for there works when they were spending energies on their
own things rather than spending
on the rebuilding of the temple. More
they put efforts on their own things, they were spending more time running
around in circles.
But once they returned to their mission, put
the effort on rebuilding of the God's temple, and when they accomplished it,
the God gave them a wonderful blessing that did not existed on previous days.
That is, the piece and the prosperity were restored, and people who were cursed
once became the source of the blessings.
This is the almighty God's blessing that is
done to each one of Israel people. It is written in here that “Once you have
been an object of cursing but you will be a blessing.” I said before, that
the God is the one who is given us a blessing, not us giving our self a
blessing. But if god is given us a blessing, then that same blessing that the
God gives us will over flow from us and becomes a blessing to others. This is
undeserving for us who knows our self, truly.
When ever I talk about amazing story as this, It
reminds me of Mitsuru Fujimaki sensei who was my former teacher at bible
seminary. This story is exactly the life message of the sensei. He tells about
himself in his book “The bible tell us.”
[ My nick name in grade school was “
Hidarimaki” (meaning screwball). I blame it on my name Fujimaki. I was teased
by called, “ Fujimaki, norimaki, Hidarimaki, “
They called me that because I was a
nasty person. If your are cute, they will call you with cute nick name. When I
was bullied or teased at school, I will come home and take it out on my mother,
sister, dog or cat. I had to take it out on somebody. It developed into home
violence. I took a revenge at home and was asking for a compensation because it
didn't go well at school and wanted to vent it out.
When I went to school, teacher will say “ You
are the first Dekuno-Bo (means blockhead ) since school was established “ I
asked “What is Dekuno-Bo ” he replied “ It is you.” Even one of the language teacher said “ you are
the Donburiyaro”, I had no idea what it meant. My mother often said “ Mitsuru,
if you were not here, this place will be much blighter, but because of you,
this place is pitch-dark.” ] ( From “ The bible tell us “ by Mtsuru Fujimaki.
Pp 381, 382 )
[For teachers, It was better that I did not come
to school. They probably wished I quit the school.] Sensei have withdrawn from
school many times, the number amounted to 17 times, because he was spending
many days under the groomy thought. [ I did not have good feeling toward my
friend. For, I did not have any friend. But when person like me became the
christian, I understood what was the Gods mercies were. The God forgave me. The
God received me. The God promised to forgave my sins and gave me an eternal
life.
After that, what happened to Fujimaki-sensi.
He enrolled in certain school. [ If
someone takes time off, before I became a Christian, I said to myself, “ Serve
him right, Stay away more.” However,
after I became a Christian, I remembered that
nobody has visited me when I was
denied from attending the school, so I started to delivered or mailed the notes
that I prepared for them after the school. The school life became fun when that
kind of school life started. I started to think how wonderful the teachers and
friends are, who were once the object of my hatred.
Every things have changed from then on.
Teachers and friends started to do their best for me. I thought I was doing a
favors for my friends, but in actuality, it was not only for my friends, but to
my surprises, my grades started to improve. I was learning my self
spontaneously when I was trying to take the notes clearly as possibly for my
friends. Then on, I started to like the teacher and also liked thesubject that
he taught.
Such as he was, Sensei has served the Lord and
the people for long time as a Pastor, even thought once he was denied from
attending the school for 17 times, was called Dekuno-Bo and Donburiyaro, and
fought with mother at home and was told by mother that, if you were not here.
He has also served as a head of a theological school, training student to
become a pastor and now is a professor emeritus at that school. That Sensei was
changed into a person who could give a blessing to others, even thought he has
being a curse at home and at school.
We often hear the certain words that is
described in the Book of Zechariah. These words conclude every things that I
said today. That words are Zechariah 4 verse 6;
“ Not by might nor by power, but by
spirit “ says the Lord Almighty.
It was the work of the God's spirit not the
Cyrus' own might nor power, for God who accomplished big things for Israel and
worked on Cyrus, the king of Persia, to do the work to change the path of the
country.
The people of Israel, who were once being
cursed, were changed into source of the blessings. Fujimaki-sensei, who was
told repeatedly he was not needed norwanted , was changed into a person who
blessed many people. They were changed because of the Gods one – way grace, not
by might nor by power of the people of Israel nor the Fujimaki-sensei.
Today, This person, with full of grace, is
speaking to us because he wants to change us so we can, too, become the root of
the blessings. Do you believe that?
It will be accomplish in your own
life time, if you become aware of it, ask the Lord for it, and live with the
lord above all thing.
What kind of life are we going to choose ? Is
there any life better then been bless by the God, and that blessing over flows
from us, and we become the source of the blessing and are able to bless others.

２）バビロンの捕囚民となっていたイスラエルの民が異教徒であるペルシヤのクロス王によって解放され、しかも彼はエルサレムの神殿再建のために資材をも提供したということをあなたはどう受け止めますか。このような支配国が支配されている国の民に対して寛容な姿勢を示すということはありえますか。ないのなら、なぜ、このことは起きたのでしょうか。
３）ペルシヤのクロスが生まれる２００年も前に、まだイスラエルがバビロンの捕囚にもなっていない時に預言者イザヤがクロスを名指して預言している以下の言葉を読んでみましょう。イザヤ４４章２８節、イザヤ４５章１３節、イザヤ４５章１３節 このように歴史の只中に介入される神があなたの人生にも介入されているということを知ることは私達にとって益となりますか。
４）ゼカリヤ８章９節‐１３節を読みましょう。ここには『あなたがたが、国々の民の中に、のろいとなっていたように、わたしはあなたがたを救って祝福とする』 （１３）と記されています。誰かのために益となるどころか、のろいとなっているような者達が祝福の基と変えられるという神様の約束をあなたはどう思いますか。あなたもそのような人生を歩むことがゆるされているということは、あなたにとってどんな希望となりますか。
５）ゼカリヤ４章６節の『万軍の主は仰せられる、これは権勢によらず、能力によらず、わたしの霊によるのである』という言葉の真意は何でしょう？
