私達人間は将来のことに対してとても関心があります。ゆえにノストラダムスの大予言やマヤ文明の予言というようなものが時々、世の中の関心を得ます。いったいこれまでどれだけこのような預言があったのか分かりませんが、一つ、確かなのはこれらの予言はことごとく成就しなかったということです。私達は三日後の天気ならある程度、予測できますが、１０００年前にそれを言い当てることは不可能なのです。皆さんの友人に、その誕生から死までその生涯が８００年前に預言されていたという人に出会ったことがありますか。いらっしゃならいでしょう。そうです、そのような能力はそもそも人間には組み込まれていないのです。
しかしながらこれからお話します預言者達は例外なのです。すなわち彼らはイエス・キリストがどこで生まれ、どんな人生を歩み、そしてどんな死に方をするかということが、イエス様が生まれるはるか前から預言しているからです。まさしく、それは神の介入なければありえないことでした・・・。

預言されていたキリスト（２）
ヨハネ５章３９節―４７節
２０１４年１１月２日
先週、私達はイエス・キリストの自分に対する「わたしが以前あなたがたと一緒にいた時分に話して聞かせた言葉は、こうであった。すなわち、モーセの律法と預言書と詩篇とに、わたしについて書いてあることは、必ずことごとく成就する」（ルカ２４章４４節）という証言から、モーセの書に書かれているイエス・キリストについてお話しました。
はまさしく「小羊」をテーマにした「過ぎ越しの出来事」であり、創世記に記されているアブラハムの「息子イサクの奉献」であり、さらには預言者イザヤにおける「イザヤ書５３章の預言」であり、さらには「未だ起きていない未来を預言」したヨハネの黙示録のメッセージでした。
言うまでもなくこれらの書を書きましたモーセ、イザヤ、パウロ、ヨハネの生涯は互いに数百年も離れており、当然、互いに面識はなく、編集会議など当然、持つことはできないのですが、彼らは皆「小羊」という言葉を用いてイエス・キリストを指さしていたのです。まさしく、それは普通ならありえないことであり、神という私達の歴史の全体を見守る編集者がこれらの著者にはたらきかけ、その筆をとらせたという以外に考えられないことなのです。実にその様はイエス様が『39あなたがたは、聖書の中に永遠の命があると思って調べているが、この聖書は、わたしについてあかしをするものである』（ヨハネ５章４０節）と言われたことを実証するものでした。
それにしても大胆なイエスの証言です。旧約聖書とはイエス・キリストが生まれたはるか前に書かれたものであり、その中には一度も「イエス・キリスト」という名前は出てこないにもかかわらず、その聖書はイエス様を証言しているというのですから。ですからこのイエスの証言について、私達はこんな疑問がわくのです。「イエス様、私達はモーセの書に書かれているあなたについては見ました。しかし、いったい聖書の預言書、および詩篇のどこにあなたを証言している言葉があるのですか」と。そこで今日はこのうち、「預言書に記されていること」についてお話しましょう。

誕生
ミカという預言者は紀元前７００年、イエス・キリストが生まれる７００年前に活躍した預言者です。ミカというとどうしても女性だと思いがちですが、このミカは男性でした。彼はこんな言葉を残しているのです。
2しかしベツレヘム・エフラタよ、あなたはユダの氏族のうちで小さい者だが、イスラエルを治める者があなたのうちからわたしのために出る。その出るのは昔から、いにしえの日からである。3それゆえ、産婦の産みおとす時まで、主は彼らを渡しおかれる。その後その兄弟たちの残れる者はイスラエルの子らのもとに帰る。4彼は主の力により、その神、主の名の威光により、立ってその群れを養い、彼らを安らかにおらせる。今、彼は大いなる者となって、地の果にまで及ぶからである（ミカ５章２節ー４節）。
ミカは「ベツレヘム」という地名を名指ししています。今でこそベツレヘムは世界的に有名な町となりましたが、当時はまさしく何もない、見過ごされてしまうようなエルサレム郊外の寒村でした。そこから、イスラエルを治める者がでるというのです。ご存知のようにベツレヘムはイスラエルの王、ダビデの出身地でもありますが、ダビデはミカよりも３００年前に生きた人ですから、このミカの言葉はダビデを指しているものではありません。さらにここに記されているその人は『主の力により、その神、主の名の威光により、立ってその群れを養い、彼らを安らかにおらせるといい、彼は大いなる者となって、地の果にまで及ぶ』というのです（４）。
そうです、彼には特別に主の名の威光があり、群れを養い、彼らに平安を与えます。その彼は大いなる者となり、地の果てにまで及ぶというのです。ベツレヘムとかユダヤとかそのようなローカルな話ではないのです。地の果てにまでその名はとどろくというのです。言うまでもない、この預言はミカの預言の後、７００年後に言われていた通りベツレヘムに生まれたイエス・キリストのことを指し、まさしく彼は大いなる者となり、地の果てまでその名はおよびました。その証人は誰ですか？ベツレヘムから遥か地の果てに今、住んでいる私達こそがその証人です。そして、このミカの預言をイエス・キリストの弟子、マタイは見逃すことがありませんでした。彼はマタイによる福音書の中にしっかりとこのミカの預言を記録しています。
1イエスがヘロデ王の代に、ユダヤのベツレヘムでお生れになったとき、見よ、東からきた博士たちがエルサレムに着いて言った、2「ユダヤ人の王としてお生れになったかたは、どこにおられますか。わたしたちは東の方でその星を見たので、そのかたを拝みにきました」。3ヘロデ王はこのことを聞いて不安を感じた。エルサレムの人々もみな、同様であった。4そこで王は祭司長たちと民の律法学者たちとを全部集めて、キリストはどこに生れるのかと、彼らに問いただした。5彼らは王に言った、「それはユダヤのベツレヘムです。預言者がこうしるしています、6『ユダの地、ベツレヘムよ、おまえはユダの君たちの中で、決して最も小さいものではない。おまえの中からひとりの君が出て、わが民イスラエルの牧者となるであろう』」（マタイ２章１節－６節）。
マタイは７００年前のここにミカの預言を引用し、この預言はキリストの誕生によって確かに成就したということを記しているのです。そして、さらにこのミカよりも５０年前に活躍をしたイザヤという預言者もイエス・キリストの誕生について、こんな預言をしました。『それゆえ、主はみずから一つのしるしをあなたがたに与えられる。見よ、おとめがみごもって男の子を産む。その名はインマヌエルととなえられる』（イザヤ７章１４節）。
イザヤと言う人はまた後に取り上げますが、旧約聖書の中の預言者でも別格でした。彼は書きました。「おとめより男の子が生まれる。その名はインマヌエル」だというのです。イザヤのこの預言の７５０年後、天のみ使いは、イエスは預言の成就として生まれてくる者で、彼は人を罪から救う者となると語り、今、読みましたイザヤの言葉をヨセフに語っているのです。
18イエス・キリストの誕生の次第はこうであった。母マリヤはヨセフと婚約していたが、まだ一緒にならない前に、聖霊によって身重になった。19夫ヨセフは正しい人であったので、彼女のことが公けになることを好まず、ひそかに離縁しようと決心した。
20彼がこのことを思いめぐらしていたとき、主の使が夢に現れて言った、「ダビデの子ヨセフよ、心配しないでマリヤを妻として迎えるがよい。その胎内に宿っているものは聖霊によるのである。21彼女は男の子を産むであろう。その名をイエスと名づけなさい。彼は、おのれの民をそのもろもろの罪から救う者となるからである」。22すべてこれらのことが起ったのは、主が預言者によって言われたことの成就するためである。すなわち、23「見よ、おとめがみごもって男の子を産むであろう。その名はインマヌエルと呼ばれるであろう」。これは「神われらと共にいます」という意味である（マタイ１章１８節－２３節）。
イザヤのイエス・キリスト誕生の預言はこれにとどまらず、さらにイザヤ書９書において、このように彼は書き記しています。
『6ひとりのみどりごがわれわれのために生れた、ひとりの男の子がわれわれに与えられた。まつりごとはその肩にあり、その名は、「霊妙なる議士、大能の神、とこしえの父、平和の君」ととなえられる。7そのまつりごとと平和とは、増し加わって限りなく、ダビデの位に座して、その国を治め、今より後、とこしえに公平と正義とをもってこれを立て、これを保たれる。万軍の主の熱心がこれをなされるのである』（イザヤ９章６節－７節）。
イザヤは一人の男の子がマリアとヨセフに与えられたと書いていません。この男の子は我々のために生まれ、我々に与えられると書いています。このような表現は私達の息子、娘には使われません。この子はこの世界のために生まれ、世界の人々にこの子は与えられるのだというような言い方を私達はしません。しかし、イザヤの言葉は明らかにイエス・キリストの生涯を説明しています。
またイザヤはここで二度、「とこしえに」と書き記しています。この人のなすことは時間で制限されていることではなく、その成すことは永久に時空を超えた世界にまでつながっているというのです。このような人間は私達の間にはなく、それはまさしく神的な存在です。そして、これらのことは何によってなされたかと言いますと、万軍の主の熱心がこれをなさるのだというのです。それは神の私達に対する熱心によるのだというのです。ミカにしても、イザヤにしても、このような具体的な預言がイエス様が生まれる７００年も前に語られていたということは驚きです。さらにこのキリスト預言はその誕生だけにとどまりません。
イエス・キリスト誕生５２０年前に活躍しましたゼカリヤという預言者は不思議な言葉を残しました。『シオンの娘よ、大いに喜べ、エルサレムの娘よ、呼ばわれ。見よ、あなたの王はあなたの所に来る。彼は義なる者であって勝利を得、柔和であって、ろばに乗る。すなわち、ろばの子である子馬に乗る』（ゼカリヤ９章９節）。
ある王がエルサレムにやってくるというのです。その方は正しい方であり、柔和であり、ろばに乗るというのです。しかも、子ろばに乗ってエルサレムにやってくるというのです。当時の人はこのゼカリヤの預言に驚いたことでしょう。王が乗るのは群れの中で最高に整った軍馬であるべきです。どこの国の王が、人を乗せたこともないような、よろけてしまうような子ロバに乗って都に入城するでしょうか。
この預言の５２０年後、イエス・キリストは十字架にかかる一週間前に子ロバに乗ってイスラエルの民達の大歓声を受けながら、エルサレムに入城しました。その時のことをイエスの弟子達はこのようにレポートしています。
1さて、彼らがエルサレムに近づき、オリブの山に沿ったベテパゲ、ベタニヤの附近にきた時、イエスはふたりの弟子をつかわして言われた、2「むこうの村へ行きなさい。そこにはいるとすぐ、まだだれも乗ったことのないろばの子が、つないであるのを見るであろう。それを解いて引いてきなさい。3もし、だれかがあなたがたに、なぜそんな事をするのかと言ったなら、主がお入り用なのです。またすぐ、ここへ返してくださいますと、言いなさい」。4そこで、彼らは出かけて行き、そして表通りの戸口に、ろばの子がつないであるのを見たので、それを解いた。5すると、そこに立っていた人々が言った、「そのろばの子を解いて、どうするのか」。6弟子たちは、イエスが言われたとおり彼らに話したので、ゆるしてくれた。7そこで、弟子たちは、そのろばの子をイエスのところに引いてきて、自分たちの上着をそれに投げかけると、イエスはその上にお乗りになった。8すると多くの人々は自分たちの上着を道に敷き、また他の人々は葉のついた枝を野原から切ってきて敷いた。9そして、前に行く者も、あとに従う者も共に叫びつづけた、「ホサナ、主の御名によってきたる者に、祝福あれ。10今きたる、われらの父ダビデの国に、祝福あれ。いと高き所に、ホサナ」。11こうしてイエスはエルサレムに着き、宮にはいられた（マルコ１１章１節－１１節）。
これは今から２０００年前にエルサレムにおいて起きたことです。まさしく、その出来事よりも５００年も前にゼカリヤが預言したことが成就しました。「子ろば」なんてと一笑されてしまうようなことが、本当に起きたのです。さらには、その時にイエス様が城壁で囲まれたエルサレムに入城しました時に、マルコはイエス様はオリーブ山方面からエルサレムに来たと書いておりますから、城壁に入るために通らなければならない門は東の側の門です。このことについて紀元前５８０年ごろに活躍した預言者エゼキエルはこう記しています。
『1こうして、彼はわたしを連れて、聖所の東に向いている外の門に帰ると、門は閉じてあった。2彼はわたしに言った、「この門は（聖所の東向きの外の門）閉じたままにしておけ、開いてはならない。ここからだれもはいってはならない。イスラエルの神、主が、ここからはいったのだから、これは閉じたままにしておけ』(エゼキエル４４章１節－２節）
キリストはエルサレム城壁の黄金の門と呼ばれる、東の門から多くの人達の歓迎を受けて、エルサレムに入城しました。このエルサレムはイエス様の昇天から約４０年後にローマ軍によって破壊されてしまいますが、現在の城壁は１５２４年にオスマン帝国にによって再建され、その時にイスラム教徒であった彼らはこのエルサレムの東の門（黄金の門）を塞いだのです。
以前、エルサレムに行きましたところ、現在のエルサレムの旧市街は城壁で囲まれており、その中に通じるいくつかの門があり（これはその一つ、ダマスカス門です）、今でも人はそこを行き来しているのですが、この東の門、すなわち黄金の門だけは現在も完全にふさがれているのです。しかも、その門を閉じたのがエゼキエルの預言から２０００年を経た後のイスラム教徒だったというのですから、驚きです。彼らは異教徒でありながら、預言者エゼキエルの預言の成就に関わっているのです。今もエルサレムでその閉ざされた門を私達は見ることができるのです。
イエス・キリストが軍馬ではなく、子ロバにのってエルサレムに入城したということ、それはイエス様の生き様を示す出来事でした。そう、そのイエス様のミニストリーについてイザヤはこう預言しています。
1わたしの支持するわがしもべ、わたしの喜ぶわが選び人を見よ。わたしはわが霊を彼に与えた。彼はもろもろの国びとに道をしめす。2彼は叫ぶことなく、声をあげることなく、その声をちまたに聞えさせず、3また傷ついた葦を折ることなく、ほのぐらい灯心を消すことなく、真実をもって道をしめす。4彼は衰えず、落胆せず、ついに道を地に確立する。海沿いの国々はその教を待ち望む（イザヤ４２章１節ー４節）。
このイザヤの預言から７５０年後、イエス様のはたらきを間近に見、その記録の合間にイエスの弟子マタイはマタイによる福音書１２章でこのイザヤ４２章を引用してこう記しています。
15イエスはこれを知って、そこを去って行かれた。ところが多くの人々がついてきたので、彼らを皆いやし、16そして自分のことを人々にあらわさないようにと、彼らを戒められた。17これは預言者イザヤの言った言葉が、成就するためである、18「見よ、わたしが選んだ僕、わたしの心にかなう、愛する者。わたしは彼にわたしの霊を授け、そして彼は正義を異邦人に宣べ伝えるであろう。19彼は争わず、叫ばず、またその声を大路で聞く者はない。20彼が正義に勝ちを得させる時まで、いためられた葦を折ることがなく、煙っている燈心を消すこともない。21異邦人は彼の名に望みを置くであろう」（マタイ１２章１７節－２１節）。
イエス・キリストがどのように人に向き合い、その道を示したかということは福音書の中に余すところなく記されていますが、その方法はまさしくイザヤが書き記したように叫ぶことなく、声をあげることなく、その声をちまたに聞えさせず、また傷つき、弱り果てた心を折ることなく、消えかかっているような灯心を消すことなく、真実をもって道をしめされ、イエスは衰えず、落胆せず、ついにその道を地に確立されました。しかも驚くべきことに、イザヤの言うところの「海沿いの国々、すなわち異邦人は彼の名に望みを置く」というのです。そうです、キリストの教えは私達、ユダヤ人ではない者達にも広がるというのです。今日、このことを否定できる人はいません。
最後に紀元前６００年ごろに主の言葉を預かり、語りましたエレミヤに登場していただきましょう。
31主は言われる、見よ、わたしがイスラエルの家とユダの家とに新しい契約を立てる日が来る。32この契約はわたしが彼らの先祖をその手をとってエジプトの地から導き出した日に立てたようなものではない。わたしは彼らの夫であったのだが、彼らはそのわたしの契約を破ったと主は言われる。33しかし、それらの日の後にわたしがイスラエルの家に立てる契約はこれである。すなわちわたしは、わたしの律法を彼らのうちに置き、その心にしるす。わたしは彼らの神となり、彼らはわたしの民となると主は言われる。34人はもはや、おのおのその隣とその兄弟に教えて、『あなたは主を知りなさい』とは言わない。それは、彼らが小より大に至るまで皆、わたしを知るようになるからであると主は言われる。わたしは彼らの不義をゆるし、もはやその罪を思わない」（エレミヤ３１章３１節－３４節）。ＢＣ六〇〇年頃
神様はエレミヤにイスラエル民族が後にたどる計画の概観を示されました。そうです、彼らの先祖はモーセを先頭にエジプトから導き出され、彼らと十戒をはじめとする律法を通して契約を結ばれました。しかし、イスラエルの民はその律法を守ることができずに、それらをことごとく破ったのです。そして、エレミヤはまさしくそれらを自らの目で日々、見ていたのです。しかし、神様はそんなエレミヤに言うのです。モーセの契約を破り続ける人に対して、神はその石に記された契約ではなく、これから新たに契約を与えると。そして、その契約は石にではなく、あなたたちの心にしるされると語られ、その最後にわたしは彼らの不義をゆるし、もはやその罪を思わないと言うのです。
これは、モーセの律法にかわる新しい律法と、「新しい契約」が立てられる日が来るとの預言です。この預言は、キリストの血による「新しい契約」が立てられたことによって、成就しました。「新しい契約」とは”キリストの十字架を信じる信仰によって義とされる”との約束のことです。それは石に刻まれる必要はなく、それは私達の心に刻まれるものなのです。そして、その時に神はその新しい契約ゆえに私達の不義をゆるし、もはや私達の罪を思わないというのです。
今日は預言者達のイエス・キリストに対する預言を見てまいりました。お話しています預言者達の言葉に共通しますことは、それらの言葉を数百年後にイエスを間近に見た者達やまた御使いまでもが引用しているということです。彼らは古の預言者達の言葉はイエス・キリストによって成就したと証言しているのです。
そして、私達もその証言を聞くことによって、一つの問いかけを受けるのです。このイエス・キリストは誰なのかと。彼は偉大な教師なのでしょうか、驚くべき宗教家なのでしょうか、カリスマ性のある人なのでしょうか？
私は裁判というものに何の知識もないものですが、その様子からうかがい知れることは、その案件の証言というものがとても大切なものとして取り扱われるということです。そのような意味で私達は今朝、イエスは神の子かということに対する裁判の傍聴席に立ち、古の預言者達の証言を聞いてきたようなものです。
そして、私達は確かにその預言が成就したことを見てまいりました。人の誕生やその生涯が数百年も昔から預言されている人間はこの世界に一人もいませんから、彼はやはり人を超えた方であることが分かります。
神はこの世界の歴史を初めから終わりまで、導いておられ、私達もこの歴史の中に今、生きています。もし、私達が本当に信頼することができる存在があるとするのなら、その方はこの歴史を支配しているお方、言うなれば私達がどこから来て、どこに行くのかということを知っているお方であるべきです。私達は今日、神こそが私達の生涯を見守り、私達に救い主であられ、私達の牧者であるイエス・キリストを送ってくださったということの証人となりました。私達の人生の歩みはこの神と共にあるのです。
今日、どうしても触れることができなかったことがあります。それはキリストの死です。このことに関してはあまりにも具体的で明瞭な預言がありますので、来週の日曜礼拝全てをかけてお話したいと思います。そうです、来週は詩篇、そしてイザヤが書き残したイザヤ書５３章からお話しましょう。私達は来週、とてつもない預言に向き合うことになります。
お祈りしましょう。
I preached about Jesus Christ from the book of Moses to justify the testimony of Jesus in Luke 24:44; “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” (Luke 24:44)
These were prophets of “The Lamb” according to the Passover in Exodus, Abraham’s Isaac dedication in Genesis, the prophet of Isaiah 53 and the prophet of the Revelation about our future.
Nevertheless say, the life of Moses, Isaiah, and John, their life was apart hundred years. They did not see each other, they must not have editorial meeting, but all of them mentioned about the LAMB and the LAMB points Jesus Christ. In our common sense it was not possible, but if there was someone who had been looked over the whole history as a editor, it would be possible, and we call the editor, GOD. Surely that made the testimony of Jesus possible. 39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me (John 5:40).
What a bold testimonies of Jesus! The OT was written thousands of years before Christ, and we cannot find the name, Jesus Christ in OT, but the OT is testifying Jesus. Therefore we have a question, “Jesus, Where is the words written about you in the book of Prophets and Psalm? So today we will focus about Jesus written in the books of Prophets.
We are very interesting about our future. Therefore the Prediction of Nostradamus and the prediction of Maya Civilization is always our interests. I do not know how many of this kind of people we had before, but this is clear that there was no one fulfilled their prediction. Yes we do not have this kind of supernatural ability if God does not give to us.
But only the prophets in the OT are exception. They prophesized about the birth, life and the death of Jesus, hundreds of years before he was born. Namely, it is impossible if there is no intervention of God. So today let us look at the prophets of Jesus birth, first.
Micah is the prophet who prophesize 700 years before Christ. The name of Micah sound like female (Especially for me), but he is the man. He left these words for us.
2 “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” 3 Therefore Israel will be abandoned until the time when she who is in labor bears a son, and the rest of his brothers return to join the Israelites. 4 He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth(Micah 5:2-4).
Micah pointed the little village name, Bethlehem. Now Bethlehem is the world famous village, but about the age of Micah, the village is very little, but Micah prophesized the ruler will be come out from the little village. As you know Bethlehem is the hometown of King David, but he was born 300 years earlier than Micah, so he did not point David. Micah described the ruler will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.
Yes he has the majesty of the name of the Lord his God, he is also the shepherd of his flock and the flock will live securely and his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. It is not talking about his local influence of Bethlehem or Judea. His name reach to the end of earth. Nevertheless say, He is Jesus Christ who was born 700 years later after Micah prophesized. Who can be the witness of this prophet? Yes we are, because we live the end of earth from Bethlehem and believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior. The disciple of Jesus, Matthew never miss the Micah’s prophet and he mentioned his prophet in his book.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi[a]from the east came to Jerusalem 2 and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Messiah was to be born. 5 “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:6 “‘But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’” (Matthew 2:1-6)
Matthew quoted the prophet of Micah and the prophet was fulfilled by Jesus Christ, and the prophet Isaiah who was 50 years before Micah also prophesized 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
We will look at the prophet Isaiah more later, but he was the special among other prophets in OT. He wrote “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. After 750 years of this prophet, the angel announced to Joseph “Jesus was born as Isaiah prophesized and he will save his people from their sins”.
18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). Matthew 1:18-3
The prophet of Isaiah is not only this but he also prophesized in Isaiah 9.
6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this (Isaiah 9:6-7).
Isaiah did not mention about the boy was given to Joseph and Mary. The boy was born for us and he was given to us. We do not say this to our son and daughter. We do not say my child was born for the world and the child was given to the world, but the prophesy of Isaiah clearly explains about the life of Jesus Christ.
And Isaiah wrote twice the word “forever”. His deed was not limited by the time but it continue to eternal. This is not man’s thing but Godly thing, and moreover, Isaiah said “The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this”. It is really amazing this was prophesized 700 before Jesus was born, and I also have to say the prophet about Jesus is not only about his birth.
The prophet Zechariah left wondrous words 520 years before Christ was born ;Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout, Daughter Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Zechariah 9:9).
One king come to Jerusalem. He is righteous, lowly and riding on a colt. The people of that age must be surprised because king should ride the most outstanding army horse. What kind of king who rides the colt and enter to the city.
About 520 years later, Jesus Christ ride the colt and entered Jerusalem. It was a week before he was crucified. The people of Jerusalem enthusiastically welcomed him. Mark reported about that in his book.
As they approached Jerusalem and came to Beth phage and Bethany at the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go to the village ahead of you, and just as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here. 3 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you doing this?’ say, ‘The Lord needs it and will send it back here shortly.’” 4 They went and found a colt outside in the street, tied at a doorway. As they untied it,5 some people standing there asked, “What are you doing, untying that colt?” 6 They answered as Jesus had told them to, and the people let them go. 7 When they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks over it, he sat on it. 8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, while others spread branches they had cut in the fields. 9 Those who went ahead and those who followed shouted, “Hosanna!”“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” 10 “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!” 11 Jesus entered Jerusalem and went into the temple courts. He looked around at everything, but since it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve (Mark 11:1-11).
This was happen at Jerusalem about two thousand years ago. The prophet of Zechariah was fulfilled. It has happened that Jesus really ride on the colt. Mark recorded Jesus came from Mt. Olive which is the east side of Jerusalem and he entered Jerusalem, so Jesus entered through the Eastern gate which is the Golden Gate we call today. The prophet Ezekiel also prophesized about the Eastern Gate in BC 580.
44 Then the man brought me back to the outer gate of the sanctuary, the one facing east, and it was shut. 2 The Lord said to me, “This gate is to remain shut. It must not be opened; no one may enter through it. It is to remain shut because the Lord, the God of Israel, has entered through it.
Jesus was welcomed by many people. He came from the west and entered the Golden Gate to the city, but about 40 years later of Jesus’ ascension, Jerusalem was destroyed by Romans, and after that Osman conquered Jerusalem in AD 1524, the Muslim closed the Golden Gate.
When I visited Jerusalem couple of years ago, The Jerusalem is surrounded by the wall right now and there are a couple of gates, but only the Golden Gate was closed as Ezekiel prophesized. Amazingly the gentile, Muslim fulfilled the prophet of Ezekiel after 2000 years. You can see the remained shut gate today at Jerusalem.
Jesus ride on the colt not army horse, and that shows about his life. Prophet Isaiah prophesized about his ministry like this.
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations. 2 He will not shout or cry out, or raise his voice in the streets.3 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out. In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;4 he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth. In his teaching the islands will put their hope.” (Isaiah 42:1-4)
After 750 years later, Jesus disciple, Matthew has been observed many things what Jesus had done and quoting Isaiah 42 in Matthew 12.
15 Aware of this, Jesus withdrew from that place. A large crowd followed him, and he healed all who were ill. 16 He warned them not to tell others about him. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: 18 “Here is my servant whom I have chosen, the one I love, in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations.19 He will not quarrel or cry out; no one will hear his voice in the streets.20 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory.21 In his name the nations will put their hope.” Matthew 12:15-21
Matthew exactly witnessed that Jesus fulfilled what Isaiah prophesized. Yes, Matthew quoted the ministry of Jesus which is he does not quarrel and cry out, bruised reed he will not break, and smoldering wick he does not snuff out… and moreover, as Isaiah said “In his teaching the islands, which is the land of gentile will put their hope”. Yes, the teaching of Christ reach to gentiles. Nobody denied the fact today.
As a last, let us close this message from the prophet of Jeremiah who lived 600 years before Christ.
31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and with the people of Judah.32 It will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,” declares the Lord.33 “This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord.“I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.34 No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.“For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”(Jeremiah 31:31-34)
God showed Jeremiah the path the Israel walked with God and now show him the plan the people of Israel will follow. Yes their ancestor, Moses led the people from Egypt and God gave them the covenant, but the people of Israel could not keep the covenant and they broke it. Jeremiah observed such problems in Israel, but God told to Jeremiah that God will give the new covenant to them. The new one is not the one which curved on the stones but it will put in our minds and write on our hearts, and He promised he will forgive our wickedness and will remember our sins no more.”
This is the prophet of new covenant and the new covenant was fulfilled by the blood of Jesus Christ because the new covenant will be the promise which give to the all people who believe the cross of Jesus and they become righteousness because of their faith. This is not the covenant curved on the stone but curved on our mind. God said because of the new covenant, he will not remember our sins no more.
Today, we have seen about the prophets about Jesus Christ. Today, I shared the prophets of ancient God’s people, and we found the prophets was quoted by Jesus disciples and even angels quoted to prove the prophet was fulfilled by Jesus Christ.
We also heard about the prophet today. We witness these prophets were fulfilled by Jesus Christ, and now we are asked one question. Who is Jesus Christ? Is he a great teacher, amazing religious leader or charismatic person?
I do not have any knowledge about the court trial, but I guess the testimony of the witness is valuable. So we are like sitting in the court room this morning, and heard the testimony of the people in the Bible about Jesus is the son of God.
We have been witnessed the prophets were fulfilled. There is no one whose birth and life is prophesized hundreds of years before birth, so Jesus was special and he was the one who are beyond human.
God leads the beginning to the end of our history and we are living in the history right now. If we have the one we can really trust, we say the one should lead the history which means the one who knows where we came from and where we are going. We witnessed today, God is the only one who are overseeing our life and send us Jesus Christ as our savor and our shepherd. Our journey will be with this God.
We could not mention one important thing about Jesus today, which is the death of Jesus Christ. I should talk about it next Sunday. The prophet is clear and precise. Yes, we will look at the prophet from Psalm and the book of Isaiah 53. You will face extraordinary prophet next week. Let us prepare for that. Let us pray.
