今日、開かれていますへブル書を読む時に、分かることが一つあります。それは私達の人生というものは旅路であるということです。あの徳川家康も人生を旅路になぞらえ言いました。「人の一生は重き荷を負うて 遠き道を行くが如し 、急ぐべからず・・・」
へブル書が言っている旅路は家康が言っているものとは異なります。へブル１１章には聖書に登場する先人達の名前があげられ、彼らがどんな人生、すなわちどんな旅路を歩んだかということが記録されていますが、その冒頭にはこう書かれているのです「さて、信仰とは望んでいる事がらを確信し、まだ見ていない事実を確認することである。昔の人達はこの信仰のゆえに賞賛された」（へブル１１章１節）
コリント第二の手紙５章７節に「わたしたちは見えるものによらないで、信仰によって歩いているのである」とあるように、彼らの旅路は信仰の旅路でありました。彼らとて私達と同じように日頃、見聞きすることがあり、私達と同じように彼らはそれらを喜び、悲しみ、苦しみつつ、歩み続けました。しかし、彼らはそれら見えるものだけに目を注ぐのではなく、見えないものを、見るかのごとくして信仰によって各々の旅路を歩んだのです。それゆえに彼らは賞賛されたというのです・・・。

へブル人への手紙：誰と旅路を歩みますか？

これまで幾つものパウロが書いた手紙を見てまいりましたが、今日、開かれています「へブル人への手紙」は著者が確定されておりません。しかし、このへブル書を読む時に、分かることが一つあります。それは私達の人生というものは旅路であるということです。あの徳川家康も人生を旅路になぞらえ言いました。「人の一生は重き荷を負うて 遠き道を行くが如し 、急ぐべからず・・・」

家康はその旅路について「遠き道を行くが如し」と言いました。彼の言葉はその道がどこにいたるのかということには言及していません。しかし、へブル書ははっきりと書いています。13これらの人はみな、信仰をいだいて死んだ。まだ約束のものは受けていなかったが、はるかにそれを望み見て喜び、そして、地上では旅人であり寄留者であることを、自ら言いあらわした。14そう言いあらわすことによって、彼らがふるさとを求めていることを示している（へブル１１章１３節－１４節）。
彼らは旅路の終わりに約束されているふるさとを信仰によって見ながら歩き続けました。その様はまさしく旅人であり、また寄留者であり、死にいたる時にも信仰をいだきつつ、終（つい）の住処（すみか）である天のふるさとを喜びました。
人が人生を歩んでいく時に、その中で経験することに大きな差異はありません。生まれ、育ち、食べ、眠り、学び、働き、その間に結婚したり、病気になったり、別れを経験したり、日々老いつつ、その道を歩き続けます。これらのことに私達一人一人のオリジナリティーが加えられて、私達それぞれの人生となります。言うまでもなくその道のりはいつも平坦であるわけでなく、時には険しい坂道となったり、道が寸断されているように思うこともあったり、道に迷うこともあります。
先々週いただきました休暇でシエラネバダの山中にある湖に行き、釣り糸を垂れました。釣り始めた時は青空、しかし一時間もすれば雨雲が辺りをおおい、雷が鳴り始めました。波ひとつないような湖に突然、大きな波が起きたり、突風が吹いたり気候の急変を体験しました。私達は幸い、幹線道路から数マイルの湖にいましたので、そこで遭難するようなことはありませんでしたが、これが山深い獣道のような所を歩いていたとなると、ましてやその天気の急変が吹雪であったとするのなら、それは命に係わる危険となります。
先日、日本の夏山を登山する韓国人のグループが遭難し、死傷者が出たというニュースが流れていました。そして、その遭難の要因の一つはそのグループに山岳ガイドがいなかったということが報道がされました。すなわち、その山と山の天候を知り尽くし、不測の事態にどう対処すればいいのかということを経験を通して知っているようなガイドがこのグループにはいなかったのです。
既に申し上げていますように、へブル書は私達は信仰の旅路を歩む旅人であり、寄留者だと言います。登山者が思いがけない事故に巻き込まれるように私達の人生にも不測の事態が起こることがあります。そう考えますのなら、私達の旅路にも私達と共に歩んでくださる導き手が必要であり、登山者が山を知り尽くしたガイドを求めるように、私達も私達の人生の歩みについて、そして私達の信仰について、全てを熟知しているる誰かが必要なのではないでしょうか。
へブル書は書き記しています。17そこで、イエスは、神のみまえにあわれみ深い忠実な大祭司となって、民の罪をあがなうために、あらゆる点において兄弟たちと同じようにならねばならなかった。18主ご自身、試錬を受けて苦しまれたからこそ、試錬の中にある者たちを助けることができるのである（へブル２章１７節－１８節）。
山岳ガイドはどうしたら山をよく知る熟練したガイドとなり、危機に直面した人を救いうる人となりうるのでしょうか。それはそのガイドの登山経験の賜物でありましょう。私達がある山に登る時に、その山に３回登頂したガイドと３０回登頂したガイドのどちらを選ぶでしょうか。夏や秋にしか登頂したことがないガイドと春夏秋冬と四季によって変化する山を知り尽くしているガイドを選ぶとしたらどちらを選ぶでしょうか。言うまでもない、経験豊富なガイドなのです。
イエス・キリストはこの世界に人としてお生まれになりました。そして、私達と同じように母の腕に抱かれて育ちました。この間、イエスが見聞きしたことは私達が見聞きしてきたこととほぼ何ら変わらないことでしょう。幼少期から青年期へ、そして大人となりました。父ヨセフが大工でしたので、その仕事を幼い時から見、また自らも大工として家族の生計をたてるようになりました。裕福な家庭ではなかったようで、家計のやりくりの困難ということを知っていたことでしょう。彼は父母の生活の中から生まれる会話を聞き、親族との様々な関係を知り、労働の苦労を知り、犠牲、不条理、不公平、裏切り・・・と人間の表も裏も身をもって体験しました。これらのことは、神の国、神の支配というものはどんなものなのかを説明する時に、イエス様が用いられたたとえ話を見れば分かります。そうです、その譬はイエス様が実際に生きた生活の場によってイエス様が見聞きし、体験したことがモチーフとなっています。
放蕩息子の例え話はイエス様が育ったナザレの町の近所に実際にいた放蕩に明け暮れた幼馴染の姿をモチーフにしたものだったかもしれません。朝に昼に夜に雇われた労働者全てに同じ賃金が払われたというたとえ話は、実際にイエス様がその労働者の一人であったり、また雇用する側として毎日、見ていた光景なのかもしれません。「家を建てる時には手持ち金で家が完成するかをよくよく考えないだろうか」と熟慮することを語られたたとえ話は、大工として家の建築を受注しながら柱を建てただけで頓挫してしまうような顧客のことを思い起こしながら語られたことでありましょう。カナの婚礼にしろ、ラザロの死にしろ、諸々の祝いと、数々の弔いを経験し、ご自身はその中で喜び、また涙しました。
このように人の中に生き、そのところで私達がそうであるように、イエス様も近所のもめごとから、まさしく十字架の死にいたるまで、あらゆる試練をもなめつくされたのです。へブル書の記者はそれゆえにキリストは試練の中にいる者達、すなわち私達を助けることができると書いています。さらにへブル記者は彼についてこう書きました。
7キリストは、その肉の生活の時には、激しい叫びと涙とをもって、ご自分を死から救う力のあるかたに、祈と願いとをささげ、そして、その深い信仰のゆえに聞きいれられたのである。8彼は御子であられたにもかかわらず、さまざまの苦しみによって従順を学び、9そして、全き者とされたので、彼に従順であるすべての人に対して、永遠の救の源となり、10神によって、メルキゼデクに等しい大祭司と、となえられたのである（へブル５章７節－１０節）。
イエス様が歩まれた生涯には時に、激しい叫びと涙がともなうことがあり、父なる神に対する信仰の祈りと願いが常にありました。へブル書はあえてここで「その肉の生活の時には」と書き記しています。そうです、なぜへブル書の記者がそのように書いたかといいますと、イエス様が霊なる存在として父なる神と共にあるのなら、その父に対する信仰を有する必要はなかったことでしょう。しかし、イエス様がまさしく私達と同じような肉体をもち、その体と共に私達と同じ生活をするのなら、その生活のただ中で父なる神様に捧げられる祈りには全て信仰がともなったのです。
そして、その信仰とはここに記されていますように「ご自分を死から救う力のある方」に対する激しい叫びと涙の祈りでありました。この叫びと涙の祈りについて思いめぐらします時に私達に思い浮かぶ光景は、イエス様が十字架に磔にされる数時間前にゲッセマネの園で血が滴るような汗を流しながら父なる神になされた祈りです。自ら十字架にかかって死ななければならない、間近にせまるそのことに対して、その死から救いうる力ある方に向かい、信仰による叫びと祈りをもって、神に従うということはどいうことなのかということを徹底的にイエス様は学ばれたとへブル書は書いているのです。
これは驚くべきことです。神の一人子イエスは十字架という究極の試練を受け、それには叫びと涙の祈りがともない、そこから彼は従順を学び、全き者とされたというのです。ゆえにへブル書はこのイエスは私達にとって永遠の救いの源となったというのです。従順というものを私達も日々の生活の中で学びますが、イエス様ご自身にとってもそれは「学ぶべきもの」だったのだということは驚きです。イエス様はそこまで私達と同じ人となられたのです。
このようなところを通られたイエス・キリストに対してへブル人の記者は彼に対するある称号を書き記しています。1こういうわけで、わたしたちは、このような多くの証人に雲のように囲まれているのであるから、いっさいの重荷と、からみつく罪とをかなぐり捨てて、わたしたちの参加すべき競走を、耐え忍んで走りぬこうではないか。2信仰の導き手であり、またその完成者であるイエスを仰ぎ見つつ、走ろうではないか。彼は、自分の前におかれている喜びのゆえに、恥をもいとわないで十字架を忍び、神の御座の右に座するに至ったのである。3あなたがたは、弱り果てて意気そそうしないために、罪人らのこのような反抗を耐え忍んだかたのことを、思いみるべきである。4あなたがたは、罪と取り組んで戦う時、まだ血を流すほどの抵抗をしたことがない（へブル１２章１節－４節）。
イエス・キリストに与えられている称号は「信仰の導き手」であり、また「信仰の完成者」なのです。山岳ガイドは山々を何度も歩き、その山の性質を知り、環境の変化を知り、時に危険な目に合いながら、そのような時にどのようにしたらその危機を逃れられるのかということを経験することによってその山のガイド、導き手となるように、イエス・キリストも私達が経験する諸々のことをご自身も信仰と共に体験されたのです。私達はこのお方と共に生涯を歩むことが許されており、このお方の生き方こそが私達が目指すところなのです。ゆえにこのへブル書の記者は「信仰の導き手であり、またその完成者であるイエスを仰ぎ見つつ、走ろうではないか」と書き記しているのです。
なぜイエスは信仰の創始者であり、その完成者なのでしょうか。イエス様が十字架にかかる時、まさしくその時、イエス様は父なる神の愛を信じぬかれました。その時、全地が闇に包まれたと聖書は記録しておりますが、まさしく父なる神と自らが断絶してしまったかのような暗黒の中でもイエス様は父なる神さまを信じ続けたのです。それ以前にも多くの人達が神への信仰を持っていたことでしょう、しかし、この十字架を通られ、そのただ中にあっても神を信じ続けたキリストだけが信仰の創始者であり、完成者という称号を得るにふさわしいお方なのです。
このように信仰の創始者、完成者であるイエス様は実際にこの世界を知り、そして、父なる神に対する信仰の従順を貫きとおし、そのことに対して真実をもって応えられた父なる神に対して一つの確信がありました。それはご自身の生涯における、ご自身も何度も受けられた「訓練」の位置づけということでした。へブル書はイエスこそ私達の導き手であり、完成者であると述べた後、続いてこう書いております。
5また子たちに対するように、あなたがたに語られたこの勧めの言葉を忘れている、「わたしの子よ、主の訓練を軽んじてはいけない。主に責められるとき、弱り果ててはならない。6主は愛する者を訓練し、受けいれるすべての子を、むち打たれるのである」。7あなたがたは訓練として耐え忍びなさい。神はあなたがたを、子として取り扱っておられるのである。いったい、父に訓練されない子があるだろうか。8だれでも受ける訓練が、あなたがたに与えられないとすれば、それこそ、あなたがたは私生子であって、ほんとうの子ではない。9その上、肉親の父はわたしたちを訓練するのに、なお彼をうやまうとすれば、なおさら、わたしたちは、たましいの父に服従して、真に生きるべきではないか。10肉親の父は、しばらくの間、自分の考えに従って訓練を与えるが、たましいの父は、わたしたちの益のため、そのきよさにあずからせるために、そうされるのである。11すべての訓練は、当座は、喜ばしいものとは思われず、むしろ悲しいものと思われる。しかし後になれば、それによって鍛えられる者に、平安な義の実を結ばせるようになる。12それだから、あなたがたのなえた手と、弱くなっているひざとを、まっすぐにしなさい。13また、足のなえている者が踏みはずすことなく、むしろいやされるように、あなたがたの足のために、まっすぐな道をつくりなさい（へブル１２章５節－１３節）。
父なる神は私達を訓練します。訓練とは私達にとって、ここに記されていますように決して喜ばしいものではなく、むしろ悲しく、避けたいものです。スポーツをする人、特に何かしらの競技、すなわち誰かとその技を競いあうスポーツをした人ならお分かりになると思います。彼らに不可欠なことは修練です。それがどんな競技であっても、体や心にある程度の負荷をつけることによって、私達の心身は鍛えられます。のぼり坂をかけあがることは私達にとりましてしんどいことですが、そのことによって私達の心身は確かに鍛えられます。このような負荷をつけることなしに体が強くなることはありません。これらの練習をしている最中に自分の体の変化を見ることはできませんが、この練習が必ずや自分を昨日よりも整えられた者にしてくれるに違いないと信じて、一日一日アスリートは練習に励むのです。
同じように私達の受ける訓練も当座は喜ばしいものとは思われません。その苦しみに打ちひしがれそうになります。しかし、その従順なる信仰を貫き通したことにより、父なる神の心を知るキリストは私達を愛するがゆえに、私達の益のために、そのきよさにあずからせるために神は私達に諸々の訓練を与えるのだということを確信をもって私達に勧めるのです。
私達の旅路は続きます。前途に何が待ち受けているのか私達には分かりません。時には当座は喜ばしく思われないようなことに直面することもあるでしょう。見聞きすることにより、打ちひしがれてしまうようなこともあるでしょう。しかし、そのような時にも私達は神に対する信仰を失いません。これらのことを全て通られたお方が私達と共にいらっしゃるのですから。私達は私生児ではなく、神は私達の真なる父でありますゆえに、私達を訓練されるのだと、その生涯をこの父への従順によって捧げられた信仰の完成者であるイエス・キリストがその確信するところを私達に語っているのですから、私達もそれを信仰をもって受け止めるのです。私達は見えるものにではなく、見えないものに目を注ぎます。そして、その見えないものの最たるものは私達の信仰の創始者であり、完成者であるイエスから目を離さないでこの人生の旅路を一歩一歩、歩んでいくことなのです。お祈りしましょう。
Epistle to the Hebrews:
With whom would you travel your journey?

In these few months, we have studied many letters Paul wrote. Author of this Epistle to the Hebrews, however, is not known. Nevertheless, there is one thing we can learn from this Epistle to the Hebrews. And that is, “our life is a journey”. That Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu also said: “Our life is like a long journey we take with a heavy load on our back. We should not haste.”
The journey Epistle to the Hebrews talks about is different from what Shogun Ieyasu said. Chapter 11 of the Hebrews mentions names of many characters from the Bible and talks about types of journey these people took. This Chapter 11 begins with these words: “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for.”(Hebrews 11:1-2)
II Corinthians Chapter 5 Verse 7 says: “We live by faith, not by sight.” In other words, their journey was a journey of faith. Just like us, as they traveled through their journey, they encountered many incidents and they rejoiced, lamented, and suffered. But, they perceived not only visible things but invisible matters as well. They lived by believing and not by seeing. God gave approval to these people because of their faith.
Shogun Ieyasu said that his journey was like travelling a long road. He did not say where that long road would lead to. But, Epistle to the Hebrews clearly says where that road leads to: All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. (Hebrews 11:13-14)
They travelled in faith looking forward to the homeland promised at the end. They were travelers and nomads. They believed and rejoiced knowing that they were promised a final resting place in heaven.
As we travel through our life, all of us encounter similar experiences. We are born, we grow, we eat, we sleep, we learn, we work, marry, start a family, get sick, encounter separation, get old, and so forth. Individual color and character is added to such life with our personality. Such is our life. Of course our road is not flat and smooth all the time. It could turn into a steep hill. Some roads are cut off. We get lost from time to time.
Two weeks ago, during our family vacation, we went to a lake in Sierra Nevada for fishing. Sky was clear and blue when we started. However, within one hour, rain cloud covered the sky and we could hear thunder rumbling. Calm lake was suddenly covered with waves, and gust of wind told us that the weather was changing suddenly. Luckily, the lake was not too far from the main road. There was no imminent danger to us. But, if we were hiking deep in the steep hills, and if the storm were a snow blizzard, we would have been facing a life-and-death situation.
The other day, a group of Korean mountain hikers were lost in Japan in bad weather and several of them lost their lives. News media speculated that this tragedy could have been avoided if they had hired a mountain guide. They did not hire an experienced mountain guide who knew the mountain and its climate intimately and knew what to do when the weather changed suddenly.
I said the Epistle to the Hebrews tells us that we are travelers trekking through the journey of faith, and we are foreigners and nomads. Like the mountain hikers, we could also face sudden change in our life that could put us in a very difficult bind. If so, just like mountain hikers seek help from an experienced and knowledgeable mountain guide, perhaps we should also seek out a guide who can walk with us in our journey, a guide who knows about faith and our route intimately.
Epistle to the Hebrews says: “For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. ” (Hebrews 2:17-18)
How could a mountain guide know the mountain intimately, and know how to rescue hikers in distress? Such knowledge comes from his experience. If a guide had climbed the mountain 3 times, and if another guide had climbed 30 times, which one would you choose? If a guide climbed the mountain only in summer and fall, and if another guide knows the mountain and changing climate throughout all four seasons, which one would you choose? Naturally, we choose the one with most experience.
Jesus Christ was born as a human into this world. He was raised in the arms of a mother, just like us. Jesus observed and experienced almost the same things all of us have experienced. He grew up to maturity, and became an adult. Since Jesus grew up watching his father Joseph working as a carpenter, Jesus also became a professional carpenter. His family did not seem to be very rich. Jesus must have learned to live a frugal life. He listened to parents talking about the family situation, relationship with other relatives, hardship of manual labor, family sacrifice, unfair and difficult encounter… He has seen ins and outs of human life. We know this from many parables Jesus presented to the people to explain about the kingdom of heaven and about love of God. These parables were mostlikely based on what Jesus had observed and experienced firsthand in this world of ours.
The parable of a prodigal son could have been taken from someone Jesus knew intimately in a town not too far from the town of Nazareth where he grew up. The parable in which every worker was paid the same wage, regardless of actual hours he worked, could have come from his own experience as a day-labor or as an employer. He said “wouldn’t anyone consider whether or not there are sufficient fund to complete the construction of a house?” He was a carpenter, and could have encountered some customer who ran out of fund before the house was completed. He experienced wedding at Cana, death of Lazarus, many celebrations, and many funerals. Jesus rejoiced and Jesus shed tears, too.
Jesus lived among us; he experienced neighborhood disputes and difficulties of life just like us, before he was killed on the cross. The writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews says that is why Jesus can help those who are facing difficulties of life. The Hebrews also said the following about Jesus:
“During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 5: 7-10)
The life of Jesus was accompanied by loud cry and tears. His life was filled with his prayer and pleading to God. This Hebrews says “while Jesus was here on earth in flesh.” If Jesus were only a spiritual entity among us and if he were with God all the time, there would have been no need for Jesus to have faith in God. But, Jesus was a person with flesh just like us, and lived among us just like us. So, it was crucial that he believed in God and offered prayer to God in his daily life on this earth.
This faith was backed by gut-wrenching cry and tearful prayer aimed at the “One who had power to save him from death.” We especially recall that prayer Jesus offered to his father God, in excruciating agony and sweat of blood, in the garden of Gethsemane only a few hours prior to the crucifixion. Jesus had to die on the cross. He was crying out to the One who had power to save him from death, knowing at the same time that he had to obey the will of God. Jesus learned through his own personal experience to obey God with faith, cry, and prayer.
This is amazing. The only son of God, Jesus, had to experience the ultimate tribulation in the cross. Through loud cry and tearful prayer, Jesus leaned the meaning of obedience, and he was made whole. For this reason, Jesus is considered to be the source of eternal salvation to all of us. We must learn obedience to God in our daily life. It is surprising to know that Jesus, too, had to learn about obedience through his own life. Jesus was a genuine human just like us.
The writer of the Epistle to the Hebrews granted a title to this Jesus Christ:
1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. 2Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. 4In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. (Hebrews 12:1-4)
The title Jesus had earned was “the guide of our faith” and “the perfecter of our faith.” A mountain guide walks the mountain again and again, knows the character of the mountain, knows the changing climates, and knows what to do in troubled times. That is how a mountain guide is made. Similarly, Jesus Christ himself had experienced firsthand every situation we experience. We are permitted to walk our life with this Jesus. He can show us how to live our life in faith. That is why the Hebrews said: “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from start to finish.”
Our faith depends on Jesus from start to finish. Why? When Jesus was to be put on the cross, Jesus never wavered from his belief in God’s love. At that moment, the Bible says the whole earth plunged into darkness. It was as though Jesus was cut off from God. But, Jesus kept his faith in God. I am sure there were many people who believed in God. But, only Jesus experienced this tribulation of the cross and yet kept his faith in God. That is why we can call Jesus the author and the perfecter of faith.
So, Jesus, the author and the perfecter of faith experienced this world while remaining faithful to God. This Jesus was convinced about one thing about God. And that is he understood the significant and meaning of disciplines he had experienced many times. After declaring Jesus as the guide and the perfecter of faith, Epistle to the Hebrews says:
And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons: “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son.” Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. Therefore, strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees. “Make level paths for your feet,” so that the lame may not be disabled, but rather healed. (Hebrews 12:5-13)
Our father God disciplines us. Such experience might look harsh and painful. We wish we could be spared from such encounter. But, anyone engaged in sports activities at a higher level would understand the importance of training. Discipline and dedication is essential. Whatever the sport might be, we can grow stronger only if we push our body to limits. Running steep hills is strenuous and hard. But, we must endure such training if we want to strengthen our body. We cannot get better in sports without challenging our body. Athletes might not notice sudden changes in their body and skill overnight. But, they undergo such training day after day believing that such discipline would make them stronger and better.
Similarly, when we encounter tribulation, we might not welcome it at first. Sometimes such tribulation almost crushes us. But, Jesus Christ, who endured his own tribulation and maintained his faith and knew the will of God, tells us with conviction that what God is putting us through will strengthen us and make us a better person.
Our journey continues. We do not know what waits ahead. Some experience might be disheartening at first sight. It might overwhelm us and crush our ego. But, we should not lose our faith toward God. Remember we are traveling with someone who had experienced all of this. We are not illegitimate children. God is our father. And that is why he disciplines us. Jesus, the perfecter of faith, assures us. So, we too must accept such disciplines from God with faith. We look at not what is visible, but on what is invisible. The most important of the invisible is Jesus, the author and the perfecter of faith. We should never lose sight of him as we travel each day in our journey of life. Let us pray.
