『牛がいなければ飼い葉おけはきれいだ』。この箴言が書いている言葉は全く正しいものです。牛が牛舎にいないのであれば、その牛舎が汚れることはありません。例の香りもなく、蠅もおらず、鼻水の洗礼を受けることもなければ、排泄物を水で流す必要もありません。そこで食事をとることもできるでしょう。そうです、牛さえいなければ手間はかかりませんし、牛舎はきれいです・・・。
・・・この箴言の言葉はこんな風に考えることもできるのではないかと思いますがいかがでしょうか。『人がいなければ地球は平和だ。しかし、人によって神の御心は全うされる』。この言葉を踏まえつつ、いくつかのことをお話しましょう。まず最初に「私達の覚悟」ということをお話します。

牛がいなければ飼葉桶はきれいです。

かつて日本の離島で伝道していた時、その島には牛を飼っている人がたくさんいました。サトウキビを栽培しつつ、黒牛を育てているのです。この牛は乳牛ではなく、ある程度に成長しますとセリにかけられ、肉牛として内地（日本本土）に売られていくのです。
時々、信徒の方が飼っている牛の牛舎の掃除をしました。ご存知のように牛のからだは大きく、からだのみならず顔も大きく、その鼻はいつも濡れ、彼らが頭を振ったり、「ふん」と息をはくと、その鼻を湿らせていたものがこちらに降りかかるのです。
南の島、暑い夏、そんな彼らの飼い葉おけに草を入れ、牛舎を掃除します。牛と蠅はいつも変わらないパートナーシップを結んでおり、牛一匹に対して数十匹の蠅がその周りを飛び交い、その匂いも独特であります。
この牛についてソロモンはこんなことを書き記しました。「牛がなければ穀物はない。牛の力によって農作物は多くなる」（箴言１４章４節）。新改訳聖書はこの言葉を「牛がいなければ飼葉おけはきれいだ。しかし牛の力によって収穫は多くなる」（箴言１４章４節 新改訳聖書）と記しています。

この箴言の言葉をリビングバイブルはこう記しています『働かなければ手も汚れない。代わりに収入もありません』（箴言１４章４節 リビングバイブル）。これはそうとうに意訳されていますが、でもその真意を言いえています。そうです、牛がいなければ牛舎はきれい。すなわち牛舎を掃除する必要はなく、手が汚れることはない。しかし、それと引き換えに収入もない。まさしく、その通りです。
ここでソロモンが言っている牛は田畑を耕すために用いられていたのでしょう。彼らが大地を耕す力は人間にして数人分はあったでしょうから、彼らがいなければ当然、その収穫は少なくなったことでしょう。牛舎がきれいであることを取るのか、収穫を増やすために牛を飼うことを取るのか、それは選択であり、どちらも一緒にかなえることはできないのです。
このソロモンの言葉は牛や農地を持っていない私達に語りかけてきます。なぜなら、この言葉は私達の人生に起きる細かなことにまでおよぶ真理だからです。
この箴言の言葉はこんな風に考えることもできるのではないかと思いますがいかがでしょうか。『人がいなければ地球は平和だ。しかし、人によって神の御心は全うされる』。この言葉を踏まえつつ、いくつかのことをお話しましょう。まず最初に「私達の覚悟」ということをお話します。
私達の覚悟
私達は自宅の家の物を片づけ、整理整頓します。しかし、ものが片づいた状態というのは束の間で継続しません。ものを片づけてひと月、家を留守にして、家に誰もいなくなれば家は片づいた状態を維持できます。しかし、そこに人がいる限り、悲しいほどに早く、家の中は瞬く間にもとの混沌に戻っていくのです。なぜですか、そこに私達が住んでいるからです。
では、どうでしょうか。新築の家を買いました。家具や調度品を全て新品に収めました。クローゼットには服も収納しました。キッチンには食器も入れ、リビングにはテレビお起きました。でも、家が汚れる、部屋が散らかるからその家に住むことはやめましょう、
皆さん、生きるということは問題を避けて通ることができないということを覚悟しましょう。誕生する時に「これから生きるにあたって」という私達に命をくださった神様の契約書に私達はサインをすることはありませんが、そのような契約書があるならそこにはこう書かれていることでしょう「これからあなたが生きるにあたり、わたしはあなたに自分で考え、自分で物事を決めていく自由を与えます。その自由を用いて与えられている人生を生きてください。しかし、その自由ゆえにあなたは過ちを犯したり、問題を抱えることでしょう。さらに、あなた以外の人にもこの自由が与えられていますので、あなたは時には憎まれたり、とばっちりを受けたりすることがあります。それでもあなたはこの与えられている人生を全うしてください」と。
私達は覚悟しなければなりません。牛のいる牛舎の飼い葉おけが汚れるように、人として生を受けたからには私達は自分の心の問題、他者の心の問題によって、様々な問題を抱えることになることを、それが生きていくということであるということを。このことを私達が覚悟するのなら、私達はたとえそのような問題が起きても、少なくとも「なぜ、こんなことが」と驚き怪しむことなく、それと向き合うことができるということを。
二つ目のこと、それは「神の覚悟」ということです。
神の覚悟
創世記は天地の創造により始まります。それは光から始まり、植物、魚、爬虫類、哺乳類と続きます。その順番は哺乳類の創造から始まり、次に光の創造があり、植物があって、空があるというようなものではなくて、そこには意図的な順番があります。私達は学校の理科の授業で進化というものを教えられました。アメーバーのような単細胞の生き物から始まり、だんだんと複雑な生き物に進化していくというものです。
聖書、創世記は第一日目にはこれこれが創造され、二日目がこれ、三日目がこれ、というように順番とその間に時の経過があったことを示しており、その過程で神様が創造された鉱物、動植物の順番というのはまさしく進化論が言っている順番と同じです。その様はまるで工事現場の作業日程表のようなもので、そこには秩序と計画性があります。建物を建築していくときにはまず土台が作られ、その上に家が作られていきます。まず屋根を造り、それから土台が据えられ、最上階の部屋が作られ、キッチンが作りというような作業工程表が作られることはありません。神様は言われたでしょう。一日の創造が終わる度に「よかった」と。その言葉は全てのバランスが保たれているということです。
カリフォルニアに住む私達にとって山火事は脅威ですが、あの山火事ですら自然環境の専門家に言わせれば、その火事が自然に起きたものであるのならそれは本来、人間の力によって消火すべきものではなくて、その火事によって保たれている自然環境があるということになります。
野生のうさぎの目が愛くるしいから、それを食べるコヨーテや狼を駆逐するのなら、私達は自然環境の秩序とバランスを壊していることになります。確かに草食動物は肉食動物に食べられてしまうという宿命がありますが、これら草食動物は肉食動物よりもはるかに多くの子を産むことにより、自然界のバランスと秩序は保たれているのです。
しかし、その秩序が壊されるようになりました。何によってですが。人間です。
神様ははじめの人、アダムとイブに園にあるいかなるものも食べてよろしいといわれました。しかし、一つの木からだけでは決してそれを食べてはいけないといいました。アダムとイブはその時、自由が与えられたのです。神様は人に自由を与えたのです。そして、この二人はその自由を神が禁じたものを食べるということに用いたのです。
その時から人の心に恥ずかしいという思い、神に対する恐れが起こり、これ以降、神様が整えられた秩序、それは人と人との間にも保たれていたものであったその秩序が混乱して、今日にいたっています。そうです、神様の整えられた秩序は人の罪によって壊され、今も壊され続けているのです。
男と女の関係ということについても、親と子という関係においても、神はそこに当初、秩序を与えました。しかし、私達の罪ゆえにその秩序は壊されているのです。そう考えますと思います。『この地球に人さえいなければ、この世界は神の整えられた秩序の中で平和であったことだろう』と。
神様は天地創造をされて最後に人を造った。人がいなければ環境破壊はなかったろう。動植物は神様が定められた秩序の中に暮らしていただろう。人を創造するということはどいうことなのか。それはその人がバベルの塔を造る可能性があるということであり、偶像崇拝をする可能性があるということです。しかし、それでも神は人を造られました。なぜでしょうか。
最後のポイントをみましょう。それは「飼葉桶に寝かされた神の子」ということです。
飼葉桶に寝かされた神の子
ソロモンは牛がいなければ飼葉桶はきれいだと言いました。でも、牛がいなければ収穫はないのです。ですから牛はいますし、飼い葉おけは汚いのです。このたび、このメッセージを備え、ソロモンの言葉を黙想しつつ、その飼い葉おけに寝かされたイエス様の誕生を考えました。
神様は人をこの地球に置くことを選ばれ、それは今日にいたっています。その人の心はすさまじいものです。まさしくその場所は人ゆえに汚れています。その汚れの只中に、イエス様は生まれ、汚れた飼い葉おけの上に寝かされました。このことは何を意味しているのでしょうか。
先ほど、この世界に無秩序と混乱をもたらしたアダムについてお話しましたが、このアダムとイエスには関わりがあると聖書は言っています。聖書の冒頭に記録されている最初の人間とイエス・キリストには関係があるというのです。こういうことを読みますと聖書という書物の背後にある神様の壮大な御計画にに鳥肌がたちます。まさしくこの歴史は神によって導かれているのです。
ローマ書にはこう書かれています。
17もし、ひとりの罪過によって、そのひとりをとおして死が支配するに至ったとすれば、まして、あふれるばかりの恵みと義の賜物とを受けている者たちは、ひとりのイエス・キリストをとおし、いのちにあって、さらに力強く支配するはずではないか。18このようなわけで、ひとりの罪過によってすべての人が罪に定められたように、ひとりの義なる行為によって、いのちを得させる義がすべての人に及ぶのである。19すなわち、ひとりの人の不従順によって、多くの人が罪人とされたと同じように、ひとりの従順によって、多くの人が義人とされるのである（ローマ５章１７節―１９節）。

天地創造がなされ、その最初の人、アダムが禁断の実を口にした、その時から、既にイエス・キリストの十字架がほのめかされるようになりました。そうです、ひとりの罪過によってすべての人が罪に定められたように、ひとりの義なる行為によって、いのちを得させる義がすべての人に及んだのです。すなわち、ひとりの人の不従順によって、多くの人が罪人とされたと同じように、ひとりの従順によって、多くの人が義人とされるのです。
そして、そのために「神の手すら汚れた」のです。といいましょうか、汚れなければその救いは人に与えることができなかったのです。イエス様が寝かされた飼葉は家畜のいない牛舎ではありませんでした。既にその環境には家畜がおり、そこには悪臭がただよっいました。そうです、それは私達の世界にただよう罪が熟して発せられる悪臭のようなものです。
創世記は神は人を神のかたちに造られたと記しています。それは神の姿かたちに人を創造したということではなく、神と親しく愛と信頼の関係を築き得る者として人を造ったということです。しかし、人はその関係を築くどころか、その関係を破壊することを繰り返しました。今もそうです。人がいなければこの世界は平和でしょう。しかし、人がいるから神はその愛の対象をもち、私達もその愛に応答する者としてこの生を全うすることができます。神様はこのことを覚悟して人を造られたのです。
そして、その覚悟が一番、顕著にあらわされたのかイエス・キリストの十字架でした。そうです、神の手は汚れたばかりではなく、そこには釘が打たれたのです。この世界の秩序を壊してしまう人の罪のために、このキリストは十字架におかかりになりました。この世界を見回せば分かります。この世界は贖いを必要とする場所だということが。
神は天地を創造され、そこに人を置きました。その人は昔も今も多くの問題を抱えています。しかし、神は人をここに置かれました。なぜか、私達は神様の愛の対象だからです。まさしく、そのことにより地球はまさしく汚れています。私達の間に憎悪や差別、殺戮は続いています。しかし、私達を他にして神の愛に応答できる存在はこの世界にはいないのです。
「牛がいなければ飼葉おけはきれいだ。しかし牛の力によって収穫は多くなる」。この言葉を私達は覚悟しましょう。私達はこれからそれぞれの生活に戻ります。そこには問題があります。なぜなら、そこには人間がいるからです。私達はそこで頭を悩ますことでしょう。しかし、その汚れた飼葉に寝かされることをよしとしてくださったイエス様が私達と共にいることを覚えましょう。そこにはイエス様の私達に対する覚悟があります。それは、あなたのいかなる罪をも私は引き受けるという愛の覚悟なのです。私たちはこの愛に応えてまいりましょう。
お祈りしましょう。
“The manger is clean if there is no ox”

When I was assigned the church in small island in Japan, many people have oxen. They culture sugar cane and also raising black oxen. These oxen are not for milk but for meat. They are auctioned and export to mainland, Japan.
I had privileged to clean the church member’s barn sometimes. As you know their body is big, and that is not only the body but also their face. Their big nose is always wet and when they shake their face or breath out, their mucus splashed on my face.
I cleaned up the barn middle of the humid summer. The oxen and fly is always have good relationship, and tens of flies are flying around the oxen, and they are smell good.
Solomon wrote in Proverbs, “Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests” (Proverbs 14:4). In Japanese New Translation Bible said, “Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests.
If there is no ox, the barn is clean. This is very true. No smell, No fly, No splash. We do not have to wash and clean it. The barn is totally clean.
The Living Bible is saying “If we do not work, there is no income“. This is broad meaning, but still pointed the truth. Yes, no ox, no work and no income. This is simple and also very true.
The income will be given by raising oxen. Yes, if there is not a ox, there is no profit. Solomon must use the oxen to cultivate the field. The oxen cultivate the land more than man do. We can either choose to have clean barn or no profit. That is our choice and we cannot chose both.
The words of Solomon also speaking to us because the proverbs is also the truth in our life.
And, when we think about this, we can think this way also “If there is no man on this earth, the earth is peaceful but God’s will be accomplished by only man”. With these words, I will share couple of things this morning. First of all, it is our readiness.
Our Readiness
We clean up our house, but the cleanness is only a moment, and will not keep that cleanness. I can keep the room clean if nobody there, but as long as there are men, it will back to mess instantly. Why? Because we live there.
How about this? We buy new house, installed new furniture in each one of the room, stored the jackets and pants in the closet, and set the TV in the living room but because we do not want mess the house, let us not live there but rent the apartment and live there.
Brothers and sisters, we should know we cannot avoid the problem when we live in this world. If we needed sign on the contract when we were born, God must give us the paper like this; As you live your life, I give you the freedom to think, and freedom to make decision. Live with that freedom, and also accept because of the freedom, you will be face many troubles, but still live fully your life.
We have to know, like the barn is dirty and mess because there is ox in the barn, we were also born as a man, and we have to face the problem causing from our heart and others, and that is our life. If we accept that truth, at least, we are not wonder and complain to God “Why is this happened”? but we know we supposed to face the trouble.
Let us look at second point, God’s readiness.
The book of Genesis is begin with the creation f heaven and earth. It was begin with the creation of the light, and plant, fish, reptiles and mammals. The order was not begin with mammals, and then light and plant and sky, it is not like that, but there is order intentionally. We were taught evolution at school. The evolution start with ameba and became more complicated one.
The creation of God has order with first day, second day and third day which means there is the time transition and process, and the order God created was the same that evolutionist is insisting. That is exactly like the schedule of construction building, there is ordered and planning. When we build the building, first we need to make foundation, and build the house on it. We will not make the planning to build roof first , and the room of second floor, and kitchen. It won’t happen. God said “It is good” when He had done His creation each day. That means the balance on His creation is great. It was well balanced and ordered.
As long as we live in Southern California, wild fire is always our threat, but according to the environmental scientist if the fire is happened by natural causes, it is better to not extinguish it, because even the fire is part of nature. Even the fire contribute the balance of nature.
Even though, we love cute eyes of wild rabbit, if we keep killing the coyote, we broke the order and balance of nature. God created grazing animals were eaten by flesh-eating animals, but the balance was maintained by the different number of their birth.
But the order was broken. By what? By human. By us.
God permitted to eat any fruit in the garden of Eden but God prohibited to eat from one tree. Adam and Eve were given the freedom. God gave the freedom to them either eat or not eat, and they used the freedom by eating the prohibited fruit.
Since that time, we feel the shame in our mind, and fear to God, and since that time we had been confused the order of God and we still confusing the order, yes our sins are keep breaking the order right now.
God gives the order in the relationship of man and woman, parent and child but the order was broken because of our sins. Therefore we think, if there is no man on this earth, our world is more peaceful and ordered.
God created man as His last creation among all others. If there is no man, there is no environmental destruction. All creatures lives in the order of God. Then why God created the man on the earth? If there is a man who has freedom to do anything, that means man build the tower of Babel and more possible to going toward the distraction, but still God created man. Why?
We will see the last point, the child of God who laid on manger.
Solomon said if there is no ox the barn is clean, but if we do not have ox, we do not have any profit. Therefore there is ox and the barn is dirty, and the manger is not clean. When I preparing this sermon, I meditated the words of Proverbs and also think about the birth of Jesus. Yes, Jesus laid on the manger.
God chose man to live on this earth and still we live here, and the manger is dirty because of us. Jesus was laid down on the manger. truly He came the midst of mankind. What is this meaning?
I shared about Adam who brought the disorder and confusion to this world, and the Bible said there is a relationship between Adam and Jesus. Yes the first man, Adam has related with Jesus. This kind of truth really amazed to us. The Bible is so broad. Indeed, God is leading this world.
The book of Romans said; 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ! 18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
When God created the world, and the first man ate the fruit, since that moment, the cross of Jesus was implied in the Bible. Yes, by the trespass of the one man, all man become sinners, by one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
And to accomplish His righteousness, God hand’s was dirtied. or more than that, without make that hand dirty, He could not give His salvation to us. The manger he was laid is not the barn there is no ox, but already there were oxen and it was smell, yes we are already there and this place was smell and dirty. The smell comes from the ripe of our sins.
The book of Genesis wrote that God created man as his image. That is not the meaning of our appearance but God created us to have the relationship of trust and love with us. But as you know, we do not build the relationship but kept breaking the relationship. It is same right now. If we are not here, our world is peaceful in His order, but because of us, God have the one who could be loved, and we also could response His love and accomplish our life on the earth. God accepts the risk and still He gives us the chance to know our creator.
And His readiness was most clearly revealed on the cross of Jesus. He died on the cross for the sins which destroy the order of His world. We will know when we are looking around this world. Our world need redemption.
God created heaven and earth and placed man on it. The man always have many problem from the time of ancient to now. But still God keep the man remain on that place. Why? Because God loves us. Still we are keep mess our world. We have hatred, anger and discrimination and killing but there is no one other than us who can respond God’s love.
“Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests. Let us accept the truth in our life. We will back to our daily life now, and we know there are problem out there because there is a man, and actually we are man. We are the cause of the problems. We will be troubled, but let us remember Jesus will be with us. Yes Jesus who accepted himself to laid down on the dirty manger for us. He determined to accept it and redeem any sins we have, and that is His love for us. Let us response to His love.

６）神様の人間に対する覚悟が最も強くあらわされた出来事は何ですか。イエス・キリストが汚い家畜小屋に生まれ、飼葉桶に寝かされたということを、今日の箴言１４章４節の言葉と共に考えてみましょう。
７）「神の手ですら汚れた」というより「汚れなければ仕事はできない」という言葉は私達に何を語りかけてきますか。
