以前、私がまだ小学生の頃、私は近くを流れる川でよく泳いだり、魚をとって遊びました。４０年以上も前のことなので、川もある程度は澄んでいました。ある日のこと、いつものようにその川に遊びに行くと、いつもは澄んでいる水が茶色に濁っているのです。何事かと思いきや、それはその川の上流で工事がなされており、大量の赤土が川に流れ込んだためであるということを知りました。その日は川で遊ぶことなく家に帰ったことを覚えています。そして、あちこちに土砂により水の中の酸素がなくなってしまったのでしょうか、魚達が水面にパクパクとその口を広げていました。中には白い腹を見せて水面に浮かんでいるものもいました。
その光景はアダムを源流とする今日の私達の世界のようにも思えます。日毎の生活を生きるのがシンドイ、霊的な精神的な呼吸困難に陥ってしまう。そして、聖書が書いているように、そんな私達の終局は死なのです。

ローマ人への手紙５章１２節―２１節

12このようなわけで、ひとりの人によって、罪がこの世にはいり、また罪によって死がはいってきたように、こうして、すべての人が罪を犯したので、死が全人類にはいり込んだのである。13というのは、律法以前にも罪は世にあったが、律法がなければ、罪は罪として認められないのである。14しかし、アダムからモーセまでの間においても、アダムの違反と同じような罪を犯さなかった者も、死の支配を免れなかった。このアダムは、きたるべき者の型である。15しかし、恵みの賜物は罪過の場合とは異なっている。すなわち、もしひとりの罪過のために多くの人が死んだとすれば、まして、神の恵みと、ひとりの人イエス・キリストの恵みによる賜物とは、さらに豊かに多くの人々に満ちあふれたはずではないか。16かつ、この賜物は、ひとりの犯した罪の結果とは異なっている。なぜなら、さばきの場合は、ひとりの罪過から、罪に定めることになったが、恵みの場合には、多くの人の罪過から、義とする結果になるからである。17もし、ひとりの罪過によって、そのひとりをとおして死が支配するに至ったとすれば、まして、あふれるばかりの恵みと義の賜物とを受けている者たちは、ひとりのイエス・キリストをとおし、いのちにあって、さらに力強く支配するはずではないか。18このようなわけで、ひとりの罪過によってすべての人が罪に定められたように、ひとりの義なる行為によって、いのちを得させる義がすべての人に及ぶのである。19すなわち、ひとりの人の不従順によって、多くの人が罪人とされたと同じように、ひとりの従順によって、多くの人が義人とされるのである。20律法がはいり込んできたのは、罪過の増し加わるためである。しかし、罪の増し加わったところには、恵みもますます満ちあふれた。21それは、罪が死によって支配するに至ったように、恵みもまた義によって支配し、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストにより、永遠のいのちを得させるためである。
ご存知のように聖書の一番最初に書かれている書は創世記でありまして、ここには世界の始まり、人間の始まり、悲しみと苦しみの始まり、夫婦の始まり、家族の始まりというようなものが書かれています。ある人はこの創世記を古代の文書と呼びます。しかし、この創世記ほど今日の私達の生活に指針を与える書はありません。
今日、開かれているローマ書５章１２節にはこんな言葉があります「このようなわけで一人の人によって、罪がこの世にはいり、また罪によって死がはいってきたように、こうして、すべての人が罪を犯したので、死が全人類に入り込んだのである」。このところに「一人の人」という言葉が書かれていまして、そして、この後をすぐ読んでいきますならば、それが創世記に記されていますように神によって一番最初に創造されたアダムのことであることが分かります。すなわち、このアダムから罪がこの世界にはいり、死が全人類に入り込んだというのです。
余談になりますが、聖書によると私達、人間の一番はじめの人はアダムであり、そして、その妻としてエバがいます。ということは、私達全ての人はこのアダムとエバの末裔ということになります。ですから、私達の祖先というものをさかのぼって行きますと、全ての人はこのカップルに行き着くわけでして、アメリカ人とか日本人とか、パスポートとかビザとか色々言っていますが、まさしく私たちは皆、遠い親戚なのであります。「人類、皆兄弟」という言葉がありますが、これはあながち間違ってはいないのです。
話を戻しましょう。「このようなわけで一人の人によって、罪がこの世にはいり、また罪によって死がはいってきたように、こうして、すべての人が罪を犯したので、死が全人類に入り込んだのである」すなわち、罪が「はじめの人、アダム」から、この世界に入ってきたと聖書は言っています。この「入り込んだ」という言葉は、「返ってきた、戻ってきたという意味ではなく、本来、私達のものではなかったものが、入り込んできて、私達を捕らえ、支配するようになった」という意味があります。
ゆえにアダム以後の人間は私達が抱える罪という問題に捕えられながら、支配されながら生きてきているのです。そして、１７節や２１節を見ますと、この罪によって、死が私達を支配するようになったというのです。
どういうことなのか。創世記からポイントを幾つかお話したいと思います。神がエデンの園にいた最初の人アダムに対して「あなたは園のどの木からでも心のままに取って食べてよろしい。しかし善悪を知る木からは取って食べてはならない。それを取って食べると、きっと死ぬであろう」（創世記２章１６節ー１７節）と言われました。けれども、まず最初にアダムの妻イブが蛇によって「あなたがたは決して死ぬことはないでしょう。それを食べると、あなたがたの目が開け、神のように善悪を知る者となることを神は知っておられるのです」（創世記３章４節）というような誘惑に惹かれて彼らは神の言葉に反し、そう言われていたように、彼らは死において自分の生涯を結論づけなければならないようになってしまいました。
創世記３章以下、アダムから生まれてくる全人類は、全部そういうパターンをとっているのだというのがこの教えであります。そして、このアダムの末裔である私達の世界に見る現実の中もこの罪と死によって支配されているのです。

この罪の流れはとても強いものです。そして、その本流はいくつもの支流を作り出し、私達の生活のいたる所にまで流れ込んできます。この流れは電話の受話器を通り抜けます。インターネット・ケーブルを通り抜けます。この流れは国会議事堂にも流れていますし、病院にも、学校にも、私達のオフィスにも、そして家庭にも流れ込んでいます。
そんな流れの中で、私達はどうすればいいのか。使い捨ての霊的酸素ボンベを買うことが解決でしょうか。分厚い神聖なウエットスーツが必要なのでしょうか。それとも私達はこの状況に甘んじて生きていくのでしょうか。その罪の汚染の中でジッと耐え忍んで生きていくのでしょうか。あるいは開き直ってその中で虚楽に甘んじていくのでしょうか。
いいや、そうではないとパウロはここで言っているのです。すなわち、このところでパウロが何度もその罪の源流となったアダムを指して「ひとりの人」と言っているように、パウロはこのアダムの他にまた「もうひとりの人」について挙げており、そのもうひとりの人こそ「イエス・キリスト」なのだと言っているのです。
すなわち、１７節―１９節に書かれているとおりであります「１７もし、ひとりの罪過によって、そのひとりをとおして死が支配するに至ったとすれば、まして、あふれるばかりの恵みと義の賜物とを受けている者たちは、ひとりのイエス・キリストをとおし、いのちにあって、さらに力強く支配するはずではないか。１８このようなわけで、ひとりの罪過によってすべての人が罪に定められたように、ひとりの義なる行為によって、いのちを得させる義がすべての人に及ぶのである。１９すなわち、ひとりの人の不従順によって、多くの人が罪人とされたと同じように、ひとりの従順によって、多くの人が義人とされるのである」。
一人の人、アダムの罪によって、死が支配することになった。しかし、それに対して一人の人、キリストの恵みと義の賜物によって、命がさらに力強く支配するようになった。一人の人、アダムの罪によって、全ての人が罪に定められるようになった。しかし、ひとりの人、キリストの義なる行為によって、命を得させる義がすべての人に及ぶようになった。一人の人、アダムの不従順によって、多くの人が罪人とされたように、一人の人、キリストの従順によって多くの人が義人とされたというのです。
創世記２章７節によりますと「主なる神は土のちりで人を造り、命の息をその鼻に吹き入れられました」と書かれており、私達が土に帰るということは、このことを意味しています。しかし、コリント人への第一の手紙１５章４７節によると「第一の人は地から出て土に属し、第二の人は天から来る」と書かれています。この第二の人とは言うまでもなくイエス・キリストその人です。
アダムは美と愛に包まれた園で試みにあい、敗北ました。キリストは荒野において、そして醜さと憎しみに囲まれたゴルゴダの丘の上で試みに遭い、勝利しました。
アダムは神に背いたものであり、その園から追い出されたのです。俗に言います、失楽園です。キリストは自身の隣にはりつけにされている背きの者に向かい言いました「今日、あなたは私と共にパラダイス（天の園）にいるであろう」。
私達がアダムの末裔だということを変えることは私達にはできませんい。しかし、アダムの末裔であり続けるのか否かということについては私達には選択の余地があります。その生に対しては私達はどうすることもできない、それゆえにキリストはこれらのことをよくよく踏まえてヨハネ３章３節でニコデモというユダヤ人指導者との会話の中でこう言われています。「よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも新しく生れなければ、神の国を見ることはできない」。
私達は本来、アダムから続くこの罪の流れの中を生きる者でありますが、その流れではなくイエス・キリストにある命の水の流れの中に身を置き、新しく生まれることができるのです。
イエス・キリストという川から流れる水についてキリストが生まれる約６００年前に生きたエゼキエルという預言者はエゼキエル書４７章７節―９節においてこう書いています。
⑦わたしが帰ってくると、見よ、川の岸のこなたかなたに、はなはだ多くの木があった。⑧彼はわたしに言った、「この水は東の境に流れて行き、アラバに落ち下り、その水が、よどんだ海にはいると、それは清くなる。⑨おおよそこの川の流れる所では、もろもろの動く生き物が皆生き、また、はなはだ多くの魚がいる。これはその水がはいると、海の水を清くするためである。この川の流れる所では、すべてのものが生きている。
このところに記されている「アラバ」とは現在、「死海」と呼ばれているあの塩の海、生き物が生息するのを拒む、あの死んだ海のある場所なのです。しかし、その所にこの川の水が流れるとそれは清くなるというのです。清くなるとは原語によると癒されるという意味があります。
これは預言者エゼキエルによるイエス・キリストを川の流れに譬えた預言です。「その水がよどんだ海にはいると、それは清くなる」。皆さん、この表現は科学的にはおかしいのです。一本の川が汚染された海をきよくするなどどはありえない話なのです。
私達は「よどんだ川の水が、きれいな海に入るとそれが清くなる」というなら分かるのです。なぜなら、海の方が大きいのですから。どんなにきれいな川の水であっても、巨大なよどんだ海に入っても、大きな影響は起こりえないのです。しかし、イエス・キリストという一本の川が、無数の罪の川がやがて大海原にまでなってしまったような、その所に注がれていくならば、そのよどんだ海すら清くなるというのです。癒されるというのです。
皆さん、このことがこの１７節に書かれていることなのです。「もし、ひとりの罪過によって、そのひとりをとおして死が支配するに至ったとすれば、まして、あふれるばかりの恵みと義の賜物とを受けている者たちは、ひとりのイエス・キリストを通し、命にあって、さらに強く支配するはずではないか」。
２０節には「律法がはいり込んで来たのは、罪過の増し加わるためである。しかし、罪の増し加わったところには、恵みもますます満ち溢れた」とも書かれています。
たとえその罪の濁流が強くても、神の「あふれるばかりの恵み」はさらに罪の束縛以上に「さらに私たちを強く支配し」、その恵みはますます満ち溢れているではないかというのです。
イエスの弟子ヨハネはイエス・キリストが言われたことをヨハネ７章３７節―３８節に記録しています「祭の終わりの大事な日に、イエスは立って、叫んで言われた「誰でも乾く者は、私のところに来て飲むがよい。私を信じる者は、聖書に書いてあるとおり、その腹から生ける水が川となって、流れ出るであろう」
ヨハネは興味深いことを書いています。それはイエスが立ち上がり、叫んで言われたということです。皆さんは最近、座っている所から立ち上がり、何かを叫んだことがありますか。私達の人生にそう日常的に起きることではありません。もし、そのようなことをするならば、本当にここぞという時にする行為です。
イエスにとっても立ち上がって、叫ぶということは何か特別なことであったに違いありません。では、そこまでして言われた言葉な何なのでしょうか。
イエスはこう叫んだのです「誰でも乾く者は、私のところに来て飲むがよい。私を信じる者は、聖書に書いてあるとおり、その腹から生ける水が川となって、流れ出るであろう」
イエスは道行く群集を見つめられました。その目には罪の流れに流されている人間が見えたことでしょう。罪の濁流の水を飲むことができずに乾いている人達を見たのでしょう。私のところへ来て飲むが良い！そうすれば、そのその水はその腹から生ける水となって流れだすから。
皆さん、私達の罪の流れは強いのです。そう、その流れは私達が思う以上に強いのです。私達にはどうすることもできない流れです。私達が抱える諸々の問題の根本はここにあるのです。なぜ、私達の間には憎しみがあるのでしょうか。裏切りがあるのでしょうか。そして、どんな人間にも死というものがあるのでしょうか。私達がこの濁流の中にあるからです。
しかし、キリストはこの流れを変えることができるのです。たとえその水がどんより汚れていても、キリストから溢れ出た命の水はその汚水を全くきよめることができるのです。
お祈りしましょう。我らの救い主なるイエス様、あなたが罪の流れの中にいる私達のために新しい命の川となって流れ込んで下さり、私達の渇きを癒し、私達を生かして下さることを感謝します。あなたが「誰でも渇く者は、私のところに来て飲むがよい」と叫ばれたように、私達もあなたからその水をいただくことができますように。

12 Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—13 To be sure, sin was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not charged against anyone’s account where there is no law.14 Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who is a pattern of the one to come.15 But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many! 16 Nor can the gift of God be compared with the result of one man’s sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification. 17 For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!18 Consequently, just as one trespass resulted in condemnation for all people, so also one righteous act resulted in justification and life for all people. 19 For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.20 The law was brought in so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21 so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
As you know Genesis is the first book written in the Bible, and the Genesis is mentioning about the beginning of the universe, the beginning of human being, the beginning of pain and sadness, beginning of wife and husband, and the beginning of family. Some people called the Genesis is just an ancient book, but the Genesis gives us the direction of our life more than any other books.
Today’s Bible verses, Romans 5:12 said; “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men”. The Romans mentions about “one man” here and we know the one man is Adam who was created by God as a first man on the earth, and from him, sin entered into our world and death came to all man.
By the way, according to the Bible, the first human was an Adam and his wife, Eve. After all we are all descendent of this couple. Therefore, when we go back to the ancestor, we all reach this couple, Adam and Eve. We can distinguish between Japanese and American or Korean or whatever, but we are all relatives. We say sometime “we are all brother and sister”, and this is not wrong.
To return to the subject, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men”. Namely, the sin entered the world through first man, Adam. The word “enter” is not the meaning of return, but the meaning is actually something it is not belong to us get into us and capture us, control us.
Therefore, we, the people who lives after Adam have been controlled by the sin and reigned by that sins, and according to the verse 17 and 21, by this sins we are all controlled by death.
What is this meaning? I would like to explain some point from the book of Genesis. God told Adam, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17), but his wife Eve was tempted by serpent who is Satan. The Satan told her “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”(Genesis 3:4) They followed this temptation and they concluded their life with death just like God said to Adam.
After Genesis 3, all their descendent had been ruled by these sins and death and we are also following that pattern.
When I was a child, I swim in the river near my house, and enjoyed to catch fishes. That was more than 40 years ago, so the stream of river was still clear. But one day, when I went to the river to play, the river was get muddy. I found a lot of mud flowed from upper land because there was construction up there. I gave up to play at the river, and went back to home on that day. I also saw a lot of fishes came up to the surface to breath some air, and some of them showed their belly and floating. Yes, they are dying.
The scene is just like our world and the source is Adam. Sometimes we are not bearable to live this life and fall into trouble to breath spiritually, and as the Bible is saying, our end is death.
This sinful flow is pretty strong, and the main stream create many branch and get into anyplace in our daily life. The flows go through our telephone line and internet cable line. The flows stream to the Diet Building, hospital, school and office, and flow into our home.
What can we do in these sinful stream? Do we need disposable spiritual oxygen tank? De we need divine thick wet suit to protect from the sins? Or do we live in the stream submissively? Just be there with patient or take a so-what attitude and seek pleasure?
Paul said “no” at here. Paul called Adam as “one man” and the man became source of our sinful nature, but he also mentioned about “other man”, and the other man is Jesus Christ.
Like he mentioned in verses 17-19; 17For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ. 18Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men. 19For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
We are reigned by Adam’s sin, but now the grace and righteousness of Jesus Christ is more strongly reigned us. We are determined as sinner by Adam’s sin, but by the righteousness deeds of Jesus Christ, his righteousness reached every person. The disobedience of Adam made all people sinners but by the obedience of Jesus Christ made many people righteous.
According to Genesis 2:7, “the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Of course this was Adam. This verse proved that we are all return to soil at the end of our life. But 1 Corinthians 15:47 said “The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven”. The second man is Jesus Christ.
Adam was tempted at the garden filled with beauty and love, and he failed. Jesus was tempted at wilderness and also he was tempted at the Calvary surrounded by hatred and ugliness, and he overcame.
Adam against God, and he was banished from the garden. That is, we say, “Paradise Lost”. What did Jesus say to the man next him when he was crucified on the cross? He said “You will be in Paradise with me today”.
We cannot change that we are the descendant of Adam, but we have a choice to remain his descendant or not. We cannot do anything our blood from Adam, therefore Jesus said in the conversation of Nicodemus and Jewish leader in John 3:3, “I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again”.
Originally, we are living in the stream of sins from Adam, but we can also place ourselves in the stream of life in Jesus Christ, and we can have born again.
Prophet Ezekiel who lived about 600 years before Christ wrote about the stream of river from Jesus Christ in Ezekiel 47:7-9; When I arrived there, I saw a great number of trees on each side of the river. He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, where it enters the Sea. When it empties into the Sea, the water there becomes fresh. Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live.
We just read the name of place, Arabah, the place is the region where there is a Dead Sea. The dead sea rejects any creature because the sea is full of salt. But when the river come into the sea, the water become fresh, and according to the original word, Hebrew, the fresh is the meaning of healing.
This is a prophet Ezekiel’s prophecy of Jesus Christ. Ezekiel used a metaphor the river as Jesus Christ. English Bible did not mention clearly about this, but Japanese Bible said, “when the river come into the stagnant sea, the sea would be clean”. It is funny for scientist because it is impossible the river cleans up the stagnant ocean.
We understand the water of stagnant river will be clean when it reaches the clear ocean”, because the ocean is much larger than river. Even cleanest river come into the stagnant ocean, nothing affects the ocean because the ocean is so huge. But the river from Jesus Christ cleans the stagnant ocean that was made by countless sinful streams. The stagnant ocean will be healed.
These are written in verse 17 “For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ”
And also verse 20 said, the law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
Even if the stream is contaminated by sins, God’s abundant provision of grace will much more reign us. His grace increased all the more.
Jesus’ disciple, John wrote the word of Jesus in John 7:37-38; On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
John mention very interesting word, that is “Jesus stood and said in a loud voice”. Have you stood and shout recently? (maybe while you are watching Padres game). It is not happened in our life so often. If we will do that, that is the time of very important moment.
For Jesus the words were critical and emergent. Then What did he say? He shouted “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.”
Jesus must have stared people on the street. For his eyes, these people are throwing into sinful stream. For his eyes, there are many who cannot drink the muddy water and get thirst. Therefore, he shouted, come to me, and drink from me. Streams of living water will flow from within him.
Brothers and sisters, our sinful stream is strong, very strong. Probably the stream is much stronger more than we think. We cannot do anything with this stream by ourselves. All our problems come from there. Why do we have hatred among us all the time? Why do we experience betrayal? And why every people have to go through the death. Because we are in this muddy stream.
But Jesus can change the stream. Even though, the stream is extremely contaminated, the living water flowing from him will cleanse the sinful water thoroughly.
Let’s pray. Our savior Jesus, we thank that you became the new stream of life and get into our sinful place and quench our thirst and make us live. As you said in loud voice “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink” may let us go to you and receive your water from you.
